  1. Why not just allow tap movement? It makes the game so much smoother. Seriously this "hold A for half a second to start moving to the left" makes me feel like I'm playing rock of ages.Apart from that the trackIR and what it does with arma looks amazing.
  2. False. Only those who actually script will have their inventory back. Right now there are many people who don't script yet they have scripted weapons either because they've killed someone who scripted them in, looted a car/tent where a scripter stores his guns or were just plain given to them. Not everyone with a scripted weapon is scripting. People pick up those weapons all the time.
  3. You don't need to make the inventory as inconvenient as possible to make to make it slow or distraction. It's just poor design.
  4. You people are missing the point. It's not a question whether the engine is good or bad. It's a question whether the engine is good or bad for a zombie game on a large map with a lot of inventory using. For arma the inventory was fine cause it was rarely used. But for DayZ when you scavenge and collect items all the time. It's garbage. Yeah you can get used to it, doesn't change the fact that it's garbage. Another thing. Arma engine was designed for long-mid range fights. Close combat and fights in buildings suck. And I mean they are in the top 10 worst. It didn't matter in large scale fights on open ground. But in zombie game where zombies get close to you and you have firefights in very close distance because people sneak in towns, it's a mess. Completely unfit for the purpose. I just hope it's not going to be like that in the standalone. And the engine tries to be realistic so hard that it discards all mechanics that are unrealistic in their nature but they're meant to make the game more realistic by compensating for things that can't be put in a video game. Let me explain. You know that you can't move just a tiny bit to the left in arma? You need to hold the button for like half a second and then he's gonna make a step to the left. It's a horrible mechanic for a shooter. If my position is very slightly off I can't in just tap the button and be where I want. Half a second can be a difference between life and death in a shootout. And I know you need to make a step in real life to move. And that's what the engine is trying to portray but in real life you can also move your body a bit, without moving your legs. You can't put that in the video game or it would be extremely hard to implement and it would probably end up being annoying anyway. That's why you let people tap the button and move a tiny bit. Even tho moving like that is unrealistic it's there to compensate for not being able to move your body without moving your legs. And I'm not talking about leaning all the way. Another thing the game fails to portray and that ruins close combat is that you can't walk and aim. Technically you can, but the gun moves so much you can't do crap. I know it's to show that you can't be accurate while walking but give me a break. The sway shouldn't be so bad. And I know that it's not that bad. You can move faster and aim much better in real life, plus you have 2 eyes the gun doesn't take 50% of your vision. Another thing that you can't portray. This thing again isn't really important in long rage but it ruins close combat. Another thing is not being able to turn when in a doorway or close to a wall or something. I don't even have to go in depth with that. There are more things like that. But that's all just things that ruin close combat. You know what I find the biggest flaw of the engine? That you can do only one thing at a time. I can't take something out of my pocket while walking. I can't drop my gun when running, I have to stop because I can't use my hand and legs at the same time. Most of the time you can reload while running but sometimes you just won't move. The animations take a week to complete and can be triggered by accident. Pressed B with a zombie close to you? Well now you're going to be playing with binoculars for 10 seconds while the zombie chews on your face. TL;DR the engine is great for combat simulator but it's garbage for a zombie game.

Poll: Reason to why you would leave DayZ?

You're vengeful, makes you a bad person. I wouldn't wish anything bad to happen to people that made something bad to me. (other than to stop what they've been doing). Especially not in a video game. I've tested different ways of playing and turns out that KoS has the smallest chance of getting killed while getting loot fast. Picked that. So did many others. And it wasn't any conviction, I was just learning how to play. Why do you even need some kind of conviction? It's not like I did "I don't know how's the gameplay but I'm gonna be x". I didn't do that. I've tested different playstyles and chose the one that suits me most. I'm not gonna make some kind of conviction and then follow it even tho it pisses me off to play that way. I'm not following what other people are doing. Again, I've tested different playstyles and chose the one that has the smallest chance of getting killed while getting loot fast. I don't see how the jumping off a bridge comparison has anything to do with it. People always follow the most profitable way. If there are more or less equally profitable ways then the choice is going to be purely personal. DayZ doesn't have that. It favors KoS. Simply because there are no downsides to killing people on sight. It doesn't matter who I shot. I didn't do that to piss him off IRL. Not griefing. I've been talking to a wall all the time. You have a very weird way of looking at things. Projecting your morality into virtual world, expecting other people to do the same and when they don't they're unimaginative jerks and you don't care if something bad happens to them and in spite of that you're still trying to put yourself on a moral highground. On top of that you consider defeating other people in a PvP video game (without intent of pissing people off) griefing and immoral. Wow.

Poll: Reason to why you would leave DayZ?

You either don't know what griefing is or you just lack logic altogether. As long as you're not cheating you can play any way you want. The game has no rules on how to play you figure out what's the best way to play yourself. Sadly that best way is going to be KoS for many (I could go on a limb here and say most) people. Reason for that: the game favors killing on sight. It's just how it is. You can attach all the "morality" to it you want. In terms of mechanics the game does favor KoS. And again. Everyone playing this game does it willingly accepting the rules of the game. Which is pretty much survival of the fittest. And without any downsides to killing on sight, yeah, that's gonna be the strategy people are going to choose. And I find it pretty baffling that you'd sympathize so much with some other people's pixels (as long as you don't consider them jerks btw). And again. I'm not killing people to upset them. They're just in my way. I understand the analogy. Still makes you a bad person and has little logic in it for me. Why does it have little in common with average DayZ play? Everyone on their own doing their own thing with no downsides to killing people effectively setting the gamemode to FFA DM (now more TDMish with the skins) with some people swimming against the tide and trying not to play deathmatch. I don't think the game was supposed to be a deathmatch but the mechanics at least in the current state of the game support it. You can't just assume that people won't kill each other. You need to give them a reason. And before you go "morality projected to virtual world"... It's pretty crazy. Maybe it's your thing but like you said, open goals. Most people will just follow the mechanics without making up their own goals that go against the mechanics putting them at disadvantage. To make the Good vs Evil choice a matter of only personal approach, you need to have both choices balanced. With trade offs, in-game. It's like saying you're free to choose to get 50$ or a kick in the nuts. Which one are you going to choose? It is a matter of personal choice but most people will just choose 50$. Same way people choose banditry. When I was starting to play DayZ I tried to be friendly and go out of my way to help people. Fended off zombies off a freshspawn and tried to give him a bloodbag only to get axed in the face while doing that. I've teamed up with some random people and we looted stary. Then we got up north a bit and they just said "thanks for helping us bring all that stuff here", shot me in the face and took all my shit. None of that is gonna happen again. Not gonna take any more chances anymore. I don't have much fun starting fresh. It's a best way for me. And if your goal is to survive and gear up, KoS is the best way to do that. And maybe you have fun walking for hours around the map checking military lootspawns just to find that there's nothing there and go to another one and then after days of doing that you're happy that you've found NVG's or whatever. Well I can get all that in a matter of hours. I don't see any reason not to choose the faster way. Because again, I don't care for your pixels that you've put on the line when willingly entering the competition. And I don't consider it immoral to kill a virtual character you're controlling, (provided I don't break the rules of the competition). Do you even realize how absurd it sounds?
  8. In the game options. But it will freeze all your icons, visibility, audibility, temp, food, water and blood. At least it does for me.

    Relative noob seeks advice

Find a drink and a can of food and get away from coast asap. Check this http://dayzdb.com/map if you wanna know what spawns where, spoiler obviously. Come back in few weeks when you've got all the loot you can possibly find and are so bored that you're gonna just snipe freshspawns with a 0.50 cal on the coast.

Poll: Reason to why you would leave DayZ?

It's part of the game yet you consider it griefing and immoral. A+ logic. And you don't hate bandits' guts but you think they are jerks and you wouldn't sympathize with them. Makes sense too. If you get killed in a PvP game it means you've lost in a competition that you have voluntarily entered, agreeing to the rules of it. And like you said, PvP is part of the game. Sorry but I'm not trying to harm other people. My goal is to survive, they are in the way. Nothing personal. Just because you feel bad it doesn't mean it's griefing. It's like saying that when I'm playing counter-strike or any other game where I kill other players I grief the enemy team. It makes no sense. And I don't come here to QQ about artifacts. I started talking about artifacts cause someone said something about artifacts that I disagree with. And like I said. "if roleplaying would put me at a really disadvantageous position, I choose not to do it." Change the mechanics of the game so that banditry isn't favored playstyle if your goal is to survive and I'll stop doing it.

    BE is alive, yet

Cheaters update their script injectors so they can be undetected then battleye gets an update to detect the new script injector then the script injector is updated to be undetected then...
  13. That plus server lag. I've seen people getting shot with shotguns and other things, turning around shooting back and then suddenly dieing.

    A second Hive

The chance that you're gonna get nuked by a script kiddie is actually higher that there's gonna be a hive wipe.
  15. The health meter is the only thing I loot at in the debug monitor.
  16. How about at a moment when loot inflation is so high that everyone is packing as50+aws? You must be new. All the best loot is on electro hill you just need to know what you're doing to get it. And car? Come on, either split up and look for cars on their spawn locations and then repair it which shouldn't take you more than few hours or split up and search western and northern edge of the map there's gonna be parking with tents and cars. And come on. Just because you have found something it doesn't mean everyone else should suffer. Plus you'll probably loose it anyway to a hacker soon.
  17. Kill people and generally fuck around. Crash helis into electro, make car races, etc. What else you gonna do?
  18. And OP. There already is a thread like this. With a poll. On first page.
  19. And that amount of time means nothing because you can be teleported 5 km above the ground or just instakilled by a script kiddie. And why the fuck would you go to NWAF? The loot on electro hill is so much better. AS50/AWS on every body. I know because I've killed like 3 snipers on that hill and they all had as50+AWS+rangefinder+nvg. You know that these things are never going to be fixed right? And yeah problems will return. In the meantime you'll have some good gameplay.

Poll: Reason to why you would leave DayZ?

I can but if roleplaying would put me at a really disadvantageous position, I choose not to do it. I would like to be bandit hunter. But if I'd let survivors go, and focus only on killing bandits, eventually I'd get shot by survivors without my fault in it. Plus I'd probably become a bandit myself because not all bandits have the skin which would make me kill everyone in self defense. We know you included berezino and stary when you were talking about military spawn locations. What's the big deal? And yeah there are deerstands, but the chance of getting something better than AKM in there is so low that it's not really worth it. I can do better by just killing few people in cherno/electro. Way better. And crashsites? Yeah we go crashsite hunting from time to time. When we don't really feel like PvPing. But then again. Best location to find as50/AWS is electro/cherno. If you think it's immoral to kill people in game it's just logical to assume that you feel bad about yourself for killing people in game. And I'm just showing you how ridiculous is assuming moral highground for not doing something that's perfectly within the rules of the game. (it's not griefing or anything like that, I don't do it to make you angry) Correction, it's not supposed to be the entire game. It is now because all the mechanics support killing on sight. That's my point. If it was equally beneficial to befriending/letting people go, people wouldn't do it as much. And in that situation it would be just a personal choice. Right now one playstyle is more efficient than other. If both playstyles would be balanced then being a bandit/survivor would be just up to personal taste. Right now it's just a better or worse choice. 2 reasons. 1. I'm not the only person who has it. There are friendlies who have that problem too. So if you go "meh the artifacts aren't that much of a problem, I frequent millitary spawn locations and there are no artifacts" you go against them too. 2. We're playing a PvP game. We're competing. Survival of the fittest. You play the game voluntarily. It's not like I'm harassing you, it's all within the rules of the game. Just because someone killed you in a PvP game it doesn't give you a reason to hate his guts IRL and not give a fuck about his technical difficulties. I don't know but it seems to me you're confusing or threating equally real life and virtual world when it comes to morality. I don't hate people who kill me (well unless they are hackers/griefers not actually playing the game just being there to piss people off) I understand that we've been competing and I've lost. And I've let it happen. I'll try not to let it happen again. And if those people who killed me have technical difficulties I wouldn't threat them any different than any other person having the same problem. I don't give a shit what you feel after I've killed you because you have AGREED to play a PVP game. You have voluntarily entered a competition where ingame death means defeat. You WANTED to be in the competition. All in all, you don't really have a place up there on the high horse.

Poll: Reason to why you would leave DayZ?

Oh but I love this. Moral high ground for not killing pixels. Here's the thing. There is nothing immoral about defeating people in a video game. Because that's what killing in PvP games is. Nobody actually gets hurt. Thus it's not immoral. And DayZ is a PvP game. Survival of the fittest. Maybe you shouldn't play PvP games. For your own mental health. One day you will kill someone in-game unintentionally and start suffering depression in real life because you've KILLED someone and it's IMMORAL. You were also talking about berezino and stary. You can't change that by denying it. Yeah you said that after saying that you don't give a shit. And after I called you out on it. And you make no sense. This is a PvP game. Fighting other players is part of the game. Again maybe you should play games that don't involve killing other people. You seem to confuse real life with virtual world. You don't give a crap that people have technical difficulties with the game because they've killed you in a PvP game that you voluntarily play and that you can turn off at any moment? What sort of logic and morality you have?
  23. You are not too bright, are you? He's not obligated to do anything. I'm not demanding anything, I'm in no position to do that. Rocket doesn't have to fix the bugs. If he'll fix the bugs, he'll do it because he wants to. That's why you can't just assume he'll do that. He might just not give a shit about them. I don't know what's he's gonna do. But when you tell something to a guy 1000 times and he doesn't respond you assume he doesn't give a shit not that he's secretly working to fix everything. And "schedule I demand"... give me a break. You either have absolute 0 reading comprehension or are a troll. Because it's just hard to believe someone would be so illogical and be able to use a computer.
  24. Nonono, the guy I was replying to said we are spoiled because we've had regular updates and feedback and then asked what other games do that. I only said that it's how alphas/betas are supposed to look like. At least the open ones. I mean that there should be at least some communication.

Poll: Reason to why you would leave DayZ?

You constantly put yourself above people who KoS. Like they are doing a bad thing. Like they are griefers. Like it's the most basic way of playing this game and the more intelligent people are friendly. Am I misreading that? It surely feels that way. And you're the guy who missed the point about 20+ days. You are the guy who said "Glitches are a problem sometimes, but I find many many military spawn locations which are glitch free. Sorry if your loot bloated PvP hotspots are useless to you now, still not a problem for me". You weren't talking about deerstands. And don't give a crap that other people can't go to military areas because "it's not a problem for you"
