Let me paint you a picture of DayZ game mechanics.
SillySil replied to SillySil's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The point isn't to penalize killing. The point is to make both playstyles just as good but different. I'd love to see addictions for murderers. The more you kill the more booze/smokes you need. If not, your hands shake, hear things and who knows what. Just make the system balanced. Not too harsh but not too easy. -
inside the mind of the ruthless bandit

People who beat other people in video games are sociopaths. Yeah. Same goes for board games right? You know it's just a game right? Do you consider people who win with you in monopoly assholes? -

And how is a number going to make people stop killing on sight? It has no influence on you. You need a downside for low morality. Bandit skin is not a reason for not killing people either. It doesn't change anything for people who already KoS. It's not equal. If you KoS not only you get rid of threats asap but you also get to take their things. Saving yourself from scavenging or going to hostpots. Friendlies can't do that. Friendlies are at a disadvantage compared to those who kill on sight. All that for faster running? I'd rather not die (on many occasions) than run faster. There needs to be a disadvantage to killing. The thing that we're talking about right now. It means that neither playstyle should be at an advantage. Both playstyles should be equally beneficial. Have trade offs. With no downsides to KoS there is choosing between more profitable option and less profitable option. If both playstyles would be equally good at surviving then the choice would be purely a matter of personal opinion. And I think it should be like that. Yeah that's something you can't really put in a video game. You'd have to threat everyone equally with the moral consequences. But, there would be people more and less concerned about those consequences so I think it would be just fine. Plus you'd still have all those "killing people in a video game is immoral" people. -
You know that deerstand were used by military during the outbreak as lookout/stronghold points right? Hence military loot and zombies.

That's the thing. If both playstyles would be even, with tradeoffs, meaning KoS wouldn't be favored, then I'd understand people not liking bandits. Because in that case it would be strictly personal choice. Now it's a choice between being at an advantage and disadvantage. All you have to do is to add a downside to killing people. To make it a trade off. Right now there isn't any. And don't even say bandit skin. If you KoS you assume that everyone is a threat anyway. The bandit skin doesn't change anything for people who KoS. -

You're wrong. The game doesn't have one thing that would be very important in real life. Morality. In real life you'd be punished by your own conscience. Here we're not. I don't feel bad about beating people in a board game or a video game. It's a voluntary contest. Well that's the problem. Without any downside to banditry it's not equal. Killing people on sight is the safest choice once you stumble upon someone. Not only that but you get to take what he has. Maybe saving yourself from going to hotspots. It's not equal. KoS is favored. I assume you've read "board game" and didn't read anything else? The game I've made up is a pure no-end-no-objective sandbox. And I did include zombies. And I don't know how long you've been playing but zeds are pest. They are less of an obstacle than doors in this game. Wow way to miss the point. Lets assume that you like the board game for a minute. -

What would you do in the board game once you've got max level on all powerups? -
We're all in a competition here. Beating someone in a game isn't a dick move. I could let people live but that would put me at a disadvantage. I don't know what the guy's gonna do once he spots me. Maybe he already sees me and he's telling his friends where I am while he acts all friendly? Maybe he's friendly only to a moment when I turn my back to him? Better safe than sorry. It's still FFA, even if grouping is allowed. And yeah I have a choice. I can choose between the most profitable thing to do and the less profitable and more dangerous things to do. What? First, you can be killed anywhere at any time. There can be someone even in a middle of a forest. Second, he might not be in a position to kill me yet, he might be going there tho, better off him before he does have a chance of killing me. Third, "if I'm in a position to kill the guy and it's his fault", not mine. He has a gun and I don't know his intentions, maybe he has things that I might use. Good enough reason to kill him. Especially if there is no downside to it.

I compared it to a chess match not for it's similarities of rules but just to show both are games. And beating other people in a game doesn't make you a bad person, nor it is a dick move. Put any free for all board game in place of chess and it makes perfect sense. And the there's gotta be a winner. There isn't an end to DayZ. Staying alive each day is a win. Let's count advantages and disadvantages. + eliminating potential threat (maybe you'll shot me the moment you spot me, maybe you already see me and you're telling your friends where I am), + I get to take all your stuff (don't need to scavenge myself, maybe I won't even need to go to a hospital and we know that hospitals are dangerous places, and if you have a better gun than me, I don't need to go to dangerous places like stary to find it PLUS with a better gun I have better chances of fighting back if my group gets shot at) + firefights are fun in this game, but that's just my opinion. - I make sound (people around know that there's someone there in my general direction, however shots also scare away people) - I loose some ammo (but if I keep killing people I will stumble upon someone who has the type of ammo I need) - I loose opportunity to make friends (I'm already playing with a group of friends so not really looking for one, and the chance that I'll just get backstabbed is just too great for me, I'd rather not risk it) - I get the bandit skin (I assume everyone is a threat anyway, doesn't change anything for me) I could be staying away from any danger but that would make the game boring. I can take a hatchet, a water bottle, a knife, and some matches and survive indefinitely in a forest somewhere (provided I don't get killed by cheaters). I'd rather have some challenge in it. And putting your life in hands of a stranger and hoping that's he's not gonna backstab you is not a challenge. Killing someone on sight is the safest thing to do. And the downsides are almost non-existent. You can't even call it a trade off. As a human being sure. As a player in a free for all competition, no. Again refer to the board game. I'm not screwing you over. We've entered a free for all competition. I've beaten you to continue playing. It's nothing personal you just were in my way. Because if I don't do it first there is a good chance you will. And I have nothing to loose by doing it so why not do it just in case. I don't consider DayZ to be a coop game. Come on if everyone would be friendly (and there were no cheaters) you just wouldn't die. You'd get all the loot, fly helis for few hours and get bored of it. Zombies are no challenge. Without PvP this game would get boring after 1 day. And you know, since there are more pros than cons to killing on sight, I have every reason to believe this game isn't coop.

Who are you screwing when you kill someone in a video game again? Do you screw someone over when beating someone in a chess match too? Does it make you a twat or a bad person? No. DayZ is a game. A competition. Survival of the fittest, free for all. People are willingly entering the competition putting on the line their characters/loot the same way you put on the line your pieces in a chess match. It's just a game. And I'm not telling you how to play, do whatever you find fun. But your arguments are unreal.

When are you really gonna to stop OFF-MAP vehicle hoarders!!
SillySil replied to BossFi's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
How is having a huge desert without ANYTHING in there around populated area with forests and whatnot realistic? The map was made for ARMA not DayZ. In ARMA there is no point going there so devs didn't care about it. In DayZ going off map gives you advantage. For me it's as much of an exploit as alt+f4 is. And why wouldn't there be any fuel left? Would it disappear? Or maybe it would run out because there would be people looking for it? Maybe we're not there just yet? Storing it in a place where nobody's gonna find it unless they have a heli or whole day of free time is fun? Why not just make it so the car is locked and invulnerable when you're offline? And you people have the guts to call others carebears? -
Its still too easy(also factions and quests=NO
SillySil replied to GhostPressure's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah man, I completely don't even. I tried but I still can't even no matter how hard I try. -
I'd love to see a lot of vehicles and very sparse fuel.

They win when people get angry cause that's their point and that's where they get enjoyment from. Meaning they're winning all the time. Also this thread is even more useless than all the "I quit" threads combined.

How many of you are actually bandits?
SillySil replied to colekern's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hey no problem man. And don't give in to the depression. Been there and it's really just your brain lying to you that it will never get better. It will, trust me. Word of advice, find someone to talk about it with if you haven't already. Helps a lot. -
Where's the option for as50+aws? Sike, it's already in the game.

SillySil replied to colekern's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm not roleplaying I'm myself yes. The difference between my real life and my in game behavior comes from the fact that I don't consider dieing dieing. Nor I consider your virtual life an actual life. I consider video games a competition. Kinda like chess. I don't do you any harm by defeating you in a chess match. Same here. The graphics of the game show that I kill you in a virtual world but it actually is just beating you in a competition. I consider video games what they are, games. You wouldn't tell a guy who beats people in chess not to buy a gun would you? I mean, that guy just fucking KILLED a horse. And deal with it. Killing people asap means eliminating threats and getting loot. If you loot people's corpses you might even save yourself from going to the hotspots. KoS is the second most efficient way of reducing your probability of getting killed. First is living in a forest somewhere up north near a pond and feeding on animals, never having any contact with people. -

What I do in a video game doesn't reflect what I do in real life. See I don't consider it "immoral" or whatever to kill your pixels that you've willingly put on the line when entering the competition of survival of the fittest that we call DayZ. -

Zombie survival my ass. The only impact the zombies have in this game are being a mild annoyance and showing where people are (see zombies farther that 200 meters? Someone's there. I treat zombies like angry wasps. No point shooting at them, just run a bit and they'll stop bothering you. And survival? The only survival this game has is avoiding getting shot at. Yeah you need food and drink but you can find it everywhere. And once you have a knife, a hatchet, matches and a water bottle you can survive indefinetly. (provided scripters don't kill you) The game fully supports PvP. PvE is non existent in this game. -

The poll isn't gonna be worth much because you are not polling people playing the game. You're polling people from the forum. And can anyone give me a reason why I shouldn't shoot people on sight except making noise and loosing few bullets? (and I'm not looking for friends) -
When will you people understand that duping and scripting is never going to go away from the mod? And I'm geared. Packing as50+AWS+ghillie+NVG+rangefinder. Got a tone of spares in tents on many servers. Because there is no and never will be a permanent solution to scripting and duping. You can't fix scripting in a game designed to be script-friendly. And you can't fix duping in a game that has client-side inventory. You can reduce number of ways to dupe at best. There will always be ways to dupe. And what are you going to dupe if you don't have anything? Yeah people will start duping again the moment they find a good gun. But it's gonna be weeks before everyone has AS50+AWS again.

You must be new here hello. Duping and hacking is not going to be fixed because it's not something you can change with a mod. And no it's not a permanent solution. The loot inflation will come back. In the meantime you'll have some good gameplay.
