"Balancing" Survivors and Bandits
SillySil replied to grasmann's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So does playing with a team and shooting when you've opportunity and knowledge of enemy positions. -
We usually play in a group of 4. We don't chase people if they are going away from us and there is no way we're going to bump to each other. However if they are close and they might notice us, we shoot first. Because if we don't, then there is a good chance he will. Since he can see that we have good gear, he might want to trade it for few bullets. And if we're not on the enfield pvp run, we stay away from the coast. Most of the time we're shooting from that biggest building, it's pretty hard to hit a moving target from that height. And those are enfields, everybody knows that we're there after few shots so they should watch their backs. We also have the god-gear snipers to fight against. It's not that easy as you might think with enfields.

"Balancing" Survivors and Bandits
SillySil replied to grasmann's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The issue is that shooting people on sight doesn't have any disadvantages while being friendly does. So to balance this out I think a disadvantage should be added for killing people if you're not defending yourself. Not too harsh tho. Both playstyles need to be equally viable. -
12k hackers banned my ass

For I moment I thought that 12k hackers banged your ass... -
Hipster as in going against mainstream and feeling good about yourself because of that. Survivalist strategy? What is that? Running away from people when you see them? Yeah, if that's what it means then loot would be the difference. If you want to approach people and ask if they are friendly, add not risking your life to it. Is that an argument against shooting people? Just because there is another, slower way of getting the same thing, it doesn't mean the faster way is worse. It even means it's better. What's the problem here? Getting loot by killing someone who already has everything is the most efficient way of gearing up. Nothing is gonna change that. The only reason it wouldn't be true is because someone might be a bad shot, then yeah, scavenging is the thing for him. But again, he's going to spend hours on something I can do in a minute, if I find someone with the gear. Again with the elitism. Yeah, you need to be bored out of your brain to come up with ways to make the game more challenging. But does it really require so much imagination? Any dolt can come up with an idea to avoid players, to approach people and ask if they need help, etc, etc. You can come up with ways you want to play in any game. Some are going to get you there faster than others. You like to play the game the slow way? Cool. Doesn't mean there aren't better ways of doing things. I won't look down on you if you want to be a medic or whatever. It's your choice what you want to do. Just don't tell me it's the best playstyle because it's not, game mechanic wise. It might be the most fun way for you, but it's not the most efficient way of playing. Someone might love being a sniper in bf3 that doesn't help his team. I won't look down on him. He's enjoying himself. However if he goes on a bf3 forum and says that sniping from spawn not capping flags is better, I will have a problem with that. You might have fun doing "creative" stuff but don't try to tell me it's the best way of getting loot, which by the way is the main aspect of DayZ. Shooting people that you don't know is the best way of staying alive while getting loot. Sorry. No words are going to change that. That's the mechanic of the game. People will always do what benefits them the most. PvP is not only helps you survive and get better weapons when you're starting but is also the only challenge this game has after you get good guns. If you want that to change, ask the devs to change the mechanics, don't go after the players who simply follow the mechanics.

What is this your first day in DayZ? I've been playing this game for a month or so and I threat zombies as flies. They're just minor annoyance, not even an obstacle. The only thing they're good at is showing if there are people in a town that I'm approaching.

End game and itchy trigger finger.
SillySil replied to edgaroviz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Endgame is when you have piled up so much loot and vehicles that there is nothing else to find, so you mess around with people or just hunt. -
You misunderstand. PvE is of no challenge = PvE is no fun. One more reason to PvP since it's the only challenge this game brings after you get the gear. Then there is killing people for gear. Bullshit. It's easier and faster for me to go to stary or loot deerstands than to kill someone who came to electro/cherno with full gear? No, it's not. He has everything, food, medical supplies, weapon, good backpack. How on earth picking all that up at once is slower than going to stary/deerstands/NWA? By a long shot... lol give me a break. Well then you're bad at the game. I have killed snipers on electro hill with a frigging axe. I have killed fully geared people using enfield/doublebarrel/AKM and within 30 minutes after spawning I was fully equipped. No need to go to a shop, a hospital, deerstands/NWA/stary anymore. Same goes for killing people up north. If you're low on food/meds/ammo, and you kill someone, you don't need to go to hotspot and risk getting shot anymore. And you are going to tell me that killing people for loot is a mute point? And, there is one more advantage of shooting on sight. They can't kill you once they're dead.

Remove Tents And Kill Everyone (A Fresh Start)
SillySil replied to Talon2000uk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
lol so many people attached to their gear in alpha. But yeah this would work only if the duping was fixed, which it won't on this engine. So until the standalone we will see inflation of high end gear until everyone except fresh spawns have it. -
Wow really? First you create a topic to tell people what to do and then when someone proves your points wrong by showing you how it really is you tell them to leave? You're horrible. Not only you think you can order people around but you also put fingers in your ears and go "lalala" when people tell you that you're wrong. You want me to leave? Stop being wrong, I won't have a reason to argue with you then.

It's still the case of advantages being bigger than disadvantages. The advantage is that he's having fun hunting people (everybody has their thing) while there are almost no disadvantages, a slight chance to get shot is the biggest disadvantage for him. And so if there are more advantages than disadvantages, what he's doing is rewarding for him.
-
I love your elitism. "we're better because we don't play FFA DM, we are the creative ones". Are you a hipster in real life too? Again, DayZ in current state fully supports FFA DM and that's the reason for it. Not lack of creativity or whatever you pulled out of your rear end. If that wasn't the most benefiting gamestyle, majority wouldn't do it. You purposefully put yourself at disadvantage by doing things the harder way and call it creative. Woop de doo. If me and my group go to cherno/electro we go with enfields/AKMs. Otherwise it's just no challenge slaughter. However on the rest 90% of the map we do use our big guns and seaweed suits. And we still shoot everyone on sight because otherwise we will get shot. And this is mostly what I was talking about. Shooting on sight. Not camping a rooftop or a hill with a high end gear. Yeah, that's pretty dumb.
-
So you're creative killing 400 no challenge, no reward, glitched zombies? Your only accomplishment in this is spending hours to get so much ammo. Shooting zombies is as valuable as shooting the sky. And people do what benefits them the most. Right now killing people is the only challenge in this game and also the best way of surviving and getting loot. Don't blame the people, blame the mechanics. If killing players wouldn't be rewarding then people wouldn't do it.

At what point am i able to play the game?
SillySil replied to Kigre's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Incoming the defense force saying that alpha is supposed to be like this. -
Killing zombies is less playable than space invader and it's not an opinion. However it might be fun to you. Everyone has their thing. But again just like having fun time with the tazer you're an exception. And why you must be new? Well when I started playing dayz zeds were a challenge to me. Then I got experienced and they don't matter to me anymore. I treat them as flies. The only feature they are for me is forcing me to relocate after each shot while in a city and showing me if there are people in a town I'm approaching. And why does it matter? Cause when you get a hold of how they work they will stop being a challenge to you. And it's not that I want FFA DM. This is what DayZ supports in current state. DayZ's objective is not to die. Well, sorry but shooting everyone except those I know is the best way of doing that. Blame the game for FFA DM not the people following the mechanics. Don't want FFA DM? Don't play DayZ or ask devs to change the mechanics.
-
Exactly the same thing could be said about masturbating with a tazer. Yeah you might like it, doesn't mean there are many others like you. How are the zombies challenging, or fun to kill? The challenge they are comes from how glitched are. And what reward do you get? Empty tin cans? I'm sorry but you must be pretty new if the zombies are still a challenge to you.
-
Please list reasons why I shouldn't shoot people on sight.
-
We camp cherno rooftops with enfields, much more fun.
-
Yes once you find all the gear PvPing is the only challenge left. This should also change. PvE should be challenging and rewarding too, and most of all fun. Now it's not, it's just shooting mindless, buggy, olympic runners that have almost no loot. NWAF is no fun cause it's full of tryhard server hoppers. Yeah we've been there, it's just long wait and fighting disappearing snipers. No fun. Stary sobor is fun... or was, now it's just one huge artifact. But yeah we conquer it from time to time. But again it's not that many people. In cherno/electro you will always have people to shot at and after a couple of kills, many people hunting you. That's why people go there. And the sooner new players realize it's a good idea to shoot everyone they see, they sooner they stop dieing. Sorry but FFA DM is the gamemode of DayZ in current state. Maybe the skins will change it a bit now. But still, getting a bandit skin is the only downside of killing on sight while there are just so many advantages. Loot, they can't shoot you, PvP is the only challenge. To change it you have to change the mechanics of the game. People will always go the easiest, most efficient way. We're as bad as the game makes us. In cherno/electro you can go back there after respawning and join the fun again with your first gun. And towns are fun places to pvp. On open fields you'd just camp in a treeline probably next to another group of people doing the same thing.
-
Like I said numerous times. They have learned that if you kill someone first they can't kill you. And that taking someone's stuff is the fastest way of gearing up.
-
What should be in the next patch?
SillySil replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I know it's alpha but the gamebreaking things have to go. And by that I mean hacking, duping and alt+f4ing. In that order. But I guess that's not gonna happen before standalone. -
What does that have to do with what I said and what is your point? It used to be different and then people learned. And it doesn't change anything that it was different. If you don't shoot on sight the other guy will.
-
Then you are purposefully doing things the hard way. You have to make up your own challenge cause the game doesn't support it. It's just like playing without backpack. There is no reason to do that other than to overcome a made up challenge.
-
Don't blame the people, blame the mechanics. People are like water, they always go the most convenient way. If the mechanics on the game make it so killing other people is not only the best way of surviving and gearing up but also the only challenging thing in game, people will do that.
