Its ridiculous to worry about tailoring to 'new players' when the game itself is not designed to be in any way a casual experience. Patience, persistence and dealing with loss are all key elements of the game regardless of how new you are. If new players don't stick around long enough to fight the learning curve of basic survival/weapon finding then I don't really see the loss; they're unlikely to enjoy the rest of game regardless of whether or not they get past that initial curve. I only started playing Day Z after they removed the starting weapon and I died several times before I got the hang of it. But it intrigued me all along and I pulled through. Incidentally, I hate playing most modern FPS. Remember that Rocket initially intended this whole mod for the existing close-knit community of Arma 2 players. Whilst I'm sure he'll agree that there's room for improvement, the fact that it exploded to the point that people are playing a military sim for the first time shouldn't impact on its core design or level of difficulty.

So recently: - Zombie aggro was made alot more sensitive - Weapons were nerfed (pistols and assault rifles especially) Consequently players require lots more ammo, far more than would have been necessary a few patches ago I appreciate you're cracking down on the ammo bugs but genuinely, without them most weapons besides common makarovs and enfields aren't worth the space to carry them. Not to mention you're also cracking down things like d/c to avoid death / deaggro zeds Just hoping that you also factor in some novel ways of relieving the ammo shortages because all this is going to do is encourage more camping and less adventuring and reduce the incentive to risk visiting military areas further... don't see how thats desirable for overall gameplay :-/
  3. Four of us were playing on NZ 5 hosted by Orcon (Dmitru, pjano, Circle, xxbaitxx,) and we were running around Devils Castle when we came across a player using the zombie face skin. It was circa 11:15pm AEST (GMT +10) On direct chat, he first called out 'friendly' and then said that he had only just spawned. Shortly after, a black SUV vehicle spawned directly behind him and he started to get aggressive. He shouted at us to get into the SUV, claiming that he was "an admin" and that "he would track our GUID's" He began counting down from 10, 9, 8 etc ... A few of us shot him and he received several shots to the head, torso etc but he didn't die. We all d/c'd at that point but when we logged into another server half an hour later (this was US 38 (texas)), all four of us had lost our primary weapons, secondary weapons, entire backpack and tool belts. We suspect the hacker was acting in retaliation for a murder we committed 10 minutes earlier as he literally came out of nowhere and it was very timely. Not sure what other information I can give but hoping that we can uncover something looking at the server logs? Should be able to see the four of us disconnecting in rapid succession. Whilst experience was so shocking it was funny, losing our gear kind of sucked to say the least...
