You can hardly take a scenario for the coast and project it to the overall game, though. If people die up north(west), then things are problematic. Even with friends. Chances are they're already geared and don't have endless inventory space, so not all can be saved. The other question is whether you can make it back in time from your spawn point. Re-gearing takes time and will take more time in the future. Probably anyway, considering the game is still getting tweaked. People should already play careful if they want to live and not die over and over again. Or not as much. I get your point, but then again most of the time it's not that easy. Or let's put it in different words: It'll probably only get harder from here on. Unless you have a team to compensate later on, when there's permanent storage.

[Video] DayZ standalone - why combat log? - Please fix this game
Combine (DayZ) replied to danchillz's topic in Gallery
I personally think logging out should have a tweaked or different animation. If you accidentally sit down you might now get a bullet right away. Or rather, you can't afford to sit down actively now. -
We once filled a hole server with 30 slots. Okay, that was a bit excessive and a one-time thing for training. But average numbers for ops and such are usually 10 - 15, for any other stuff 3-7 on average. Just guessing. Why, to get to the original question? It's fun. With the clan (CQF) being friendly, it makes your mission to assist anyone who's willing easier. In turn, strength in numbers. But bigger groups tend to become bigger / easier targets, too. So you also have a challenge of getting through with little to no casualties. Also, organization and training of a large group or organization is also part of it. In short, it's just a very different experience compared to only playing alone or with 1 friend at best.

Others in my (big) group say there's more friendly people (or encounters) on HC servers. On average, anyway.

Nice one! He got it coming. One can hardly explain what happened (on his end) other than combat logging because he was scared / a pussy. E: Okay, being scared is fine, but THAT intended easy way out IS NOT.

Has anyone else encountered the 'amazing' bandits that camp Balota airstrip?
Combine (DayZ) replied to ItzNasha's topic in New Player Discussion
Well, no more combat logging, really. At least in the classical sense. -

Supposedly that was 2 hours ago. 2 hours and twenty minutes, didn't see anything yet. Maybe delay or I got the time wrong. Also, could some people here leave their emotional stuff aside? It's kind of irritating trying to follow this thread. -
Let's Play DayZ Standalone AUSTRIA/GERMAN MEETS PIETSMIET
Combine (DayZ) replied to TheNiss's topic in Gallery
[German post, considering it's a related topic] Pietsmiet, hah. Wäre ja echt mal was tolles, diesen LPern über den Weg zu laufen. Schätze, da muss man aber schon echt Glück haben sofern man die nicht aktiv sucht und verfolgt. -
Some people think KOS is the only way to play / survive / easy. It's not. Common sense. Think and you will find things in favor of it and against it, depending on the situation, playstyle, etc. Also, even if you try to be friendly and get KOS'd often: a) Change something and / or b) Any friendly or neutral encounter will have way more value. Loners being friendly should have the toughest time if they cannot rely on others from time to time or always. Really, being friendly / neutral in groups is easier and increases your survival.

Hand guard RiS or hand guard MP for m4?
Combine (DayZ) replied to BaitedHook's topic in New Player Discussion
Considering that you can now put flashlights on a pistol, you may as well try the MP one. If you have a pistol and flashlight for it, anyway. Slightly higher advantage, as you can also paint the handguard. You can't paint a RIS one as far as I know. -
Fact is, considering the catastrophe that did occur, Chernarus is still a bit too clean in some / many areas. You can see hints of this already on the (new) map, but it could be slightly better. For example, some bigger graves are at Balota mil camp and Cherno (saw one near the church). But hey. Alpha. It could change or not. If not, just think most people were evacuated or became infected. Or were put into the mass graves. The "they got up as zombies" argument is a bit tricky though. The one some posts above implies the zombies have super powers or are classic zombies. In fact, these are still human. But just infected with some virus / rabies / whatever. They're not supernatural.
-
Yeah, well, the realism argument often goes down in favor of gameplay. Or a lot would be different.
-
^ Pretty much. Doesn't matter if some people here can't imagine using LTL rounds or think they are not useful. Demand WILL be there. All we need. And of course, Dev consideration and implementation.

KOS, because you play too much Simcity
Combine (DayZ) replied to Vixoran's topic in General Discussion
Hm, well, okay, I guess that's also right, even if I mostly meant shooting players with no real weapon or long range combat capability. But the coast is a killzone anyway, I guess. Bored players move there to shoot people, and friendly people move there to help people. So you basically have a, excuse the language, giant shitfest where you can basically meet anyone. -
KOS, because you play too much Simcity
Combine (DayZ) replied to Vixoran's topic in General Discussion
You are apparently fine with having little to no challenge. Oh well, then again, the coast is a tricky place in general. It doesn't really matter once you are past it though. So sniping unarmed people on the coast is really just some target practice or wasting ammo, whatever you like to call it. -
KOS, because you play too much Simcity
Combine (DayZ) replied to Vixoran's topic in General Discussion
Look. I / we get it. But as much as your subjective negative experience might annoy you right now, so do threads like these annoy the community. Rage / emotional posts complaining about something in that manner mostly do not help. Some could still provide room for discussion, but that doesn't mean it starts off nicely. You have two options now. Stop playing or not. Temporary or permanently. Try it again later once the game is more developed. Otherwise, try changing something. Strength in numbers, pal. I roll in a big friendly group and wouldn't want to miss that experience. DayZ can still 'exhaust' you sometimes, but I get through any, excuse the language, "KOS fuckfest" (just to get the point across) nicely or more or less nicely, while helping people. Also proves a point that pure, simple KOS (shooting at anything no matter what) is stupid and gets people killed. We recently had a guy take pot shots at us (15 total á 5 people per squad). Why someone would attack a big squad on his / her own is beyond me, but obviously they all died or combat logged (pussies). My point is: Stop playing or change something about how you play if you keep having negative experiences. And you can still be friendly without being at a severe disadvantage. Also because "KOS" is NOT the secret recipe on how to survive. In many situations, THAT can / will get you killed. Play something else or try again! But please no "Dun liek it, fukk 'dis n' all, I go kthxbye"-Threads (again: or anything likewise) please. Or anything similar. Too much forum cluttering. -
Is there a benefit to surrendering gear?
Combine (DayZ) replied to Pr0jectseph's topic in New Player Discussion
Because of just one situation? :D -
First off: It can be explained and make sense. DayZ has little backstory (which is kinda good, in cases like those) other than it might be losely based on the Arma universe / timeline. Which means even WESTERN WEAPONS or UN Berets can be encountered in a place like Chernarus due to the previous A2 story. The Chernarus military themselves served as UN peacekeepers in that other fictional middle east country. WHO could drop them? Doesn't matter much. They might as well be old / new from the local military, another bordering military or a global relief organization. Any of them can still exist (somewhere) simply because there's no set backstory. DayZ - It's your story. --- --- --- What could be inside? Enough examples were given. I'd take out any strong military weapons or even rifles, but ammo might be among it for any weapon. Other than that, especially food, tools, survival items, etc. Small firearms at best, I guess. Pistols, or so.

Survival is its own reward.

Is there a benefit to surrendering gear?
Combine (DayZ) replied to Pr0jectseph's topic in New Player Discussion
There's no universal right answer for this. It depends on the situation, the when, who and where. Sometimes you die no matter what, so you might as well go out with a fight. Sometimes people might just not even really try to rob you, but want to 'secure' you first. They could be friendly or just nice bandits. You might not die or just lose some items but live for surrendering. Obviously, if you fight back they will shoot you and, on average, kill you. So, I strongly advise to consider the circumstances instead of saying "MUUHHH PRIDE BANZAI" or whatever. -
Precisely. Without any pink glasses on: DayZ is a survival game. Many aspects include survival. It's just that most core features or intended features are still missing because *drum roll* Alpha. It is still growing. Also, fact is, we can not be 100% certain on development. While the game has set goals from the devs, feedback can and will always influence those just slightly or perhaps completely. It really depends. Time will tell.

Does the bipod work when in a crouched/standing position as well?
Combine (DayZ) replied to thequantum's topic in New Player Discussion
From what I know, it's somewhat confusing. I remember someone doing tests with it. Apparently (this is from the back of my head), you shoot worse if you use it as intended. The best result someone had was having it on the Mosin (dunno with M4, was Mosin only tests) but not deployed and prone, or so. Then, I also head from someone that having one on an M4 might totally reduce damage. So yeah, many myths, odd tests and no real clarity, I think. Would be nice if someone could clear it up.
