Don't mistake or misjudge some situations because of bad or unlucky experience though. While it may be (highly) likely that the group you encounter might be out for no good, them asking you to put your hands up (or you doing it on your own) might save you. Or maybe not. It always depends on who you encounter and who you are. And what all involved do. They might as well be hero players having some security rules. Then again, hero players should be clever and not go (in VOIP): "OH MY GOD PUT YOUR FUCKING GUN DOWN, DROP IT AND SURRENDER AT ONCE OR WE WILL SHOOT OUR 395729572 BULLETS INTO YOU" A more neutral or friendly approach might give decent heros away, without them trying to bumrush you to "help the shit out of you". If you want to play it safe, try to avoid other groups. But don't complain if you attack them first and get your ass handed to you eventually. If you try to avoid groups you also avoid the dilemma of "are they friendly or hostile" and the risk of interaction. In short: Sometimes, raising your hands can save you. Sometimes or even more often, it might also be the other way around. You can never know for certain and only act on the info you have right then - with all assumptions or judgements by then.

Or you just come back way later and see how it goes.

Sweet rage. What is it with rage posts? I'm sorry, had to make fun of it, because I think it's silly. Anyway, contact Battleeye directly to clear things up, as has been stated already. Good luck.

The gas mask will probably have (more) practical uses later on, just like any sort of similar mask (normal mask included). Still useful right now, if you ask me. It can be considered minor camo in some circumstances or under some visual settings, as the base color (pristine or damaged) fits the surrounding areas more than bare skin most of the time.

Sorry to hear that. No, no sarcasm. As a more hero like player I can understand the frustration, and that personal experience can influence coming behavior. Or will. But again, I meant cases just like those in the video: If a group totally surrounds you, then you can assume what'll happen 100% of the time to you if you go beserk / attack / don't comply. Okay, it could be a bandit / asshole group, and indeed, you might kill or seriously annoy 1-2 before going down. But try to see it from the other side: In the heat of sudden contact, that could just happen like that with people yelling "Put your XY down". And not every neutral / friendly / social player is as clever or calm to adress people in a more fitting way than "OH MUH GAWD PUT 'YERR GUUUN DOWN NAU!!111" (aka I mean you no harm but seriously, watch where you point that thing). Speaking of that, how could that improve? Dunno, depends on who's involved and what exactly happens, but avoiding "Put your gun down" (when there was no previous gunfight or combat involved) and instead using "Lower your weapon (please)" might be more helpful. Some difference between "Submit" or "Cooperate". Or saying that you mean no harm, etc. Well, tricky topic. It depends on both parties in the end, I guess. Most random situations tend to go fubar anyway if people suddenly meet up face to face or run into each other. Armed. Without previous comms or hints of the presence of another.

Squeakers got rekt by karma :D revenge
Combine (DayZ) replied to Toperek1990 (DayZ)'s topic in Gallery
I don't precisely mean "shoot anyone with a squeaky / high pitched voice" (even though it might be strongly implied by wording), just that some people could be annoyed by it or focus on distrust. Can't expect any group of (more) adult people to differentiate freely and fairly between younger users on the internet. I do agree partially, however. -
I disagree. Your loss if you take the banzai route that'll get you killed in a situation like that 99%. The guys on the other side could be friendly / neutral for all you know, and having an axe-wielding maniac on the other side would be a security threat. Then again, if you personally prefer that, by all means... just not agreeing that it should be a general advice. In short: If you never comply, expect to die.

Squeakers got rekt by karma :D revenge
Combine (DayZ) replied to Toperek1990 (DayZ)'s topic in Gallery
But ... but they ARE squeakers! :( But seriously, what do you expect when you hear / notice someone younger like that? Could be up to no good, as we've clearly seen in the video. If you roll with more adult people regarding voice, you have to expect it. -
Hm, another "I kinda got backstabbed by a semi-friendly guy / liar and from now on I will kill / shoot at any stranger I come across!"-Post, kinda. No need to assume the worst for every situation because of bad encounters in the game. You could meet, in theory, 30 friendly / neutral people in similar or other situations and have 1-2 bad apples. And even if it was the other way around, it'd be worth the 1-2 friendly people. Just consider security measures if you're neutral / hero and you can make it just fine. Or most of the time. I think that the "I died due to ... and thus I will shoot at any stranger" mentality is rather adding to a certain problem than solving it.

So far I've heard enough stories of confirmed (or very close to that) hacking, glitching or abuse of certain game mechanics to know or assume that any server you hop on, you can be next. In bare theory, must the chance would be higher on high-pop servers. I think I saw one incident firsthand so far, some wallglitcher shoting at us. Playing with big groups also certainly confirms this "cancer". If you don't go to an operation but hear the guys being slaughtered live (without being there) is somewhat annoying. Again, I refer to all reports where it can be safely assumed that foul play was going on, nothing "uncertain" where someone simply was better. Funny thing though, most of the people, from what I heard, suck at the same time. So, I guess, the majority of people who refer to cheating software or ways just suck and / or are butthurt (they must get some satisfaction out of it if it works). I even got it partially confirmed. Many dupers out there going to PVP hotspots armed up like Rambo³, and yet they still get their asses handed to them by less geared players. But I hope that we'll see a bit less of that next patch, when some purges will occur. Anyway, in short: Most of them suck. They'll hopefully get banned and, in the end, have to pay more than they get out of their relatively short "kicks".

Chatacter wipe next stable build(.49) possible
Combine (DayZ) replied to cels's topic in General Discussion
Dun care for wipes. It's an Alpha, has to be expected. Last weekend I freaking kept dying to a mix of technical problems (bugs, glitches, etc) and players, I kept regearing with my paper chars, the whole day. Today I died to a random height glitch in some buildings where you are instantly dead without being shot at by others, etc. It's annoying, yes. Dying to tech problems usually results in some sort of frustration and more, otherwise unneeded work. But hey, swallow it down. Besides, in some cases it can be quite refreshing again to be forced to re-gear. -
Is anyone in DayZ Standalone friendly?
Combine (DayZ) replied to BoBoSlap's topic in New Player Discussion
To any friendly player or anyone looking for more social aspects: Join a group. Better yet, join a "hero group" or anything close to it. You can find big and small ones in the recruitment section, and I might also point you in the direction of 2-3 specific ones. -
NPC villagers, pedestrians, and military?
Combine (DayZ) replied to TheMaxedout's topic in General Discussion
Imo, just a very little little dev compromise could also do the trick. Have one or very few (within 5) location(s) on the map (or a modular "base" that can spawn anywhere on the map or at certain points) that's contains humanoid uninfected NPCs. They could be (crazed) survivors, bandits or some kind of military presence, some outright hostile, some perhaps not. But I can already tell they'll prolly never be added, so a mod has to do that somehow. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this should be(come) a major aspect of gameplay, but fluff is nice to have. Still, I see potential. For example, if you really wanted to take it far you could have few uninfected places per each server restart, from the smallest town or point of interest to the capital / major cities. There could be 'living' folks there, some armed perhaps, and possible zombie migration (or scripted if not random or natrual) could put a strain on them. Player interaction could or may not be a factor there. But again, that'll probably be in a mod. It would spice up DayZ SA though. More content. But if the older statements will hold forever, then I guess -> Mod for SA, not original SA to get that stuff. -
Indeed, paper that has been used (OH GOD NO I DON'T MEAN TOILET PAPER, IMAGES IN YOUR HEAD!!111oneone) should have a different model or texture. Or the other way around, whatever fits more. Forgot how exactly the item look slike right now, and it may depend on condition too. Also, I didn't specifically ask for dog tags if anyone thought that, I merely mentioned that you can use any piece of paper as dog tags (or, if you don't play as soldier or whatever, ID card or anything else) by adding your name - perhaps group and rank if there's that stuff - or those of others on it. Either way I guess notes will be used more by players in the future. Imho, notes should behave like persistent storage. Or they might have a persistant lifespan across server restarts like 2 days or so before they are removed. With the additional option to tear them apart (destroy them completely). Heck, imagine those 2 scenarios: You are in some bigger town and find the central area full of notes. You decide to clean up the area by tearing them apart (unless they have a lifespan, in that case you may not bother). Or you find a note with the coordinates of some super secret stash, supposedly. At the end it says "Destroy this note after reading it", and then you tear it apart, taking the knowledge ... ...to your grave. *Mystery music*

Not really against it, actually makes this item more useful. However, there should be some limits. If someone got his head turned into swiss cheese then I think a defib should not work. Also, there should be an effective time limit. Like 1-3 minutes or so.
-
I'm in favor of this - to what extend the devs want to take this eventually, when priorities allow, is another question, but it should go or lean into that direction in my book. Ideas: You don't necessarily have to script static object-person hyb- ... okay, let me put it in other terms: Make it so that you can have persistent (kinda) corpses spawn in any building and / or in any urban center (on the road etc). Just like a dead player or zombie, there could be the chance to have a body spawn. It may have loot in various conditions. You don't have to spawn many per town, but some should be in it. Since these bodies would behave like loot, their positions would also be somewhat dynamic and changing. They could spawn like crash sites - per server (re)start or could change like loot changes now upon looting, thus, respawn elsewhere.

And yet again...I log out in disappointment.
Combine (DayZ) replied to blehan9390's topic in General Discussion
I can understand some of the frustration, but in some points I just see either bad luck or mistakes on your behalf. Some can be technical, others tactical reasons. And clearly, DayZ is not for everyone. To me, in some aspects it's like a learning curve but also natural selection. In harsh words: The 'dumb' or just unlucky die, others have more luck or skill and rise above. Mostly, not always. I'm more than happy with the current state already, despite some minor or major problems (up to debate) in new updates. I'm actually hyped to play each time and with my group or allies, as it's just plain fun. Death or victory aside, the social interaction and combat, or the path, that counts for me. And I gotta admit, due to how I play, my survival per operation, deployment or engagement is just higher on average. On the other hand, I might be a less-than-average loner. Regardless, there's thrill - alone or in a group. Sometimes I think I'm seeing things. Running alone through a forest during the way, suddenly I stop in shock and look to the side. Is that- ... nope. Just a weird looking tree. Or looking into a forest at a military base. I freeze for just a second or less. Is that guy freaking staring at me, like a dead man and ghost, haunting the pla- ... oh phew... that's "just" a zombie. That former soldier looked like a player standing still and staring at me for a split second. So yeah, the pros outweigh the cons for me. I might have a different view on the game if I'd play alone all the time without friends. I did so before, it has its thrills but it's not for everyone. Not every playstyle is for everyone. And besides, DayZ itself is not for everyone. No matter your specific playstyle, the general theme is the same across them. That defines the game. I suggest you - stop playing forever - change how you play - take a short or long break and come back later when the game moved on more My advice to all, in fact. All that are rather unhappy with it, that is. -
I actually picked up a pen and 1-2 books (they give 1-2 loose pages or notes each) just in case. Hell, you can use papers as dog tags, too. I'd prolly use them for immersive purposes (some sort of log or short diary) or likewise.

Gearing up as a "nobody" or with little stuff is part of the game and rewarding. Indeed, if you only look for direct action, then I guess getting gear the easiest way is the "best" way. But in that case I truly think the game isn't the right one for those people or things. Also, the "most people do it" argument is mostly BS if you ask me. "Heerrr derrrrp but ahhh gotta keep uuup durr". No. "But.." No. I currently roll with some allies and we usually end up in major urban combat (zones). You would not believe how many people we catch with duped or hacked gear, mostly weapons or so. By "catch" I mean catch with bullets, mostly. Or how many people we saw flee (ingame or by logging out) despite their uber-hacked-massive-amounts-of-ammo-gear. In some way, we keep mowing down armies of excessively geared people. Maybe it's not as extreme as one could think by reading this, but in each engagement there's usually 1-3 people with "fishy items" - often M4s or magazines that have way more ammo in them than intended.

Due to running around the coast last weekend I'm pretty sure that "coast grass" (shilf or whatever you call it?) DOES get rendered past your average or usual grass rendering distance. Could think about that. I guess that counts as "hard" bushes and stuff, not "soft" grass that's everywhere or in most places. I say: Either cut out grass completely or increase rendering distance by 25m or more. Or something like that.

I can see the anti-responses to that already. inb4dayzcrusade

Would you want working streetlights at night in cities?
Combine (DayZ) replied to NagsterTheGangster's topic in Suggestions
In favor, has good advanced engame content potential and could potentially be tied to other benefits. The effort required would probably need a group of players and may or may not exceed giving light at night -> Perhaps you could charge up some batteries or other tools if you have electricity, not just get light. -
Funny aspect of the new ragdoll effect:

What about players? Ragdoll?
