I think they're fine as they are, stat-wise. Could even keep you slightly warm if its cold. -

Guize... inb4 motorcycle helmets give you a boost once bikes come out. Safety first! And thanks for that other thing. -

To add onto that, without creating a new thread: Shiiiieet, how? I did not get an option when right clicking the canteen at a ->well<-, nor did the well offer any. Pond then? -

Dunno why gas masks should be rare "just because". They would be pretty common loot at military areas and perhaps firestations. At least realistically. Yes, it's not like new spawns should be able (unless really lucky) to get such gear quickly, but then again it does not have to be "ultra rare". E: Can someone tell me if you can refill canteens at a well, pond or in general? -
The game needs a bandit system/rewards for being either good or bad
Combine (DayZ) replied to alleycat's topic in General Discussion
From what I remember, reading the planned features will basically, eventually, result in more social interaction. Because you can or are supposed to build stuff in the long run. Could encourage trading or at the very least, the focus might shift from deathmatch to team deathmatch. So basically I can imagine the south or coastal region being anarchy most of the time while the central / northern regions are the big deal with faction wars or so. Still better than 24/7 deathmatch. -
Besides, guys, we have at least one playergroup who plays as some sort of Russian relief force or so.

Homeless Simulator 2014 (because too few zombies)
Combine (DayZ) replied to alleycat's topic in General Discussion
Hordes might be an interesting concept, if the engine can support them "properly" (or more or less). Might increase "sh** your pants" moments tenfold. -
Hint: There's constructive criticism and just ranting where emotional (at least at that time) people vent steam. In the end, the endless rage posts are just a waste of time for those who write them and those who read and reply to them. Again, not referring to also negative criticism but pure ranting. Not sure what some of the ranters expected when buying (totally optional, no one forces anyone to buy it this early) this. Also: Whiners don't quit and quitters don't whine. Hence the latter. Besides, anyone who got it now has the game. It can only get better. Try again later if you don't like it right now.

Charging people money to help you "make" a game....
Combine (DayZ) replied to jBrick's topic in General Discussion
I don't see what the fuss is about. In general. Essentially, in this area this is common now, and you get to play the game early on. You can even influence it to some degree, or rather, the feedback of all can. And you probably get some discount. I don't have to mention that common sense but also several "warnings" show that such (pre) Alphas are not the final product. It has already been said. People do not HAVE to purchase the game early on and there is usually always a way to see if it's far enough to ones personal taste. Let's Plays or so for example, trailers, videos about it, reports, forum messages, feedback about it. Common sense: Don't purchase (access to) early game version and expect full game. -
Alternative use: Military area - Safe haven for the good, hell for those with bad karma? I mean, this is how we could also use the KARMA SYSTEM. Good peeps can enter and have a safe spot. More or less. If you attack them, you lose the advantage and they turn hostile. But zombies and / or other players could attack. You could help them, and basically reap rewards, such as using the vehicles, or so. Why zombies that may attack? Well, you can actually do something then, unless you want to wait for players who aim to raid the area. People with bad karma / murderers would not be welcome and hostile, KOS order. You could gain karma there by helping them, say, defending the area when it is under attack (alert triggered by zombies and / or players with bad karma entering or attacking the area, if you kill hostile entities - bandits - you gain karma). With a certain "good reputation" you could then use some of their vehicles freely, perhaps. Implementing / synching this with the karma system may also prevent "senseless killing", since people who avoid or help other people actually have some sort of actual gameplay advantage, or at least a possible advantage, whereas most murderers may have a disadvantage. If they want to get big loot, they have to fight their way through an army. On the other hand, you could say this: BUT WAIT! People could just run in without a bad rep and loot, then go! That is correct. Two options here: - Looting without good reputation turns them hostile to you (you take their gear without authorization) - You can't even enter the area without being shot at UNLESS you have a certain amount of good karma (which you may get by helping other survivors by healing, or so Just some more thoughts!

Good idea, argus. You could mix it, too. They could spawn at the outer area and move in that direction, and of course usually get shot down. But no respawn (apart from server restart) would be "too easy" for other groups who arrive later on, when most may've been shot. Maybe something like every 15 minutes, or 30? Something like that sounds okay-ish. Or every 40 minutes... etc.

I just had a nice thought! What if you replace the ZOMBIES in military areas with actual SOLDIERS / COPS? Imagine the airfield with all the nice loot! Stary Sobor military camp! Other places? I mean, no more "loot farming". Normal case? You just have to get rid of the zombies there, that is not too hard. Then you just have to hope there's no player around and you can loot, heck, even jump around servers until you're good. But what if there are soldiers instead of zombies?! Get what I mean? It may also encourage the coop aspect, since loners would hardly be able to rush the airfield with all the soldiers. Even a lone sniper may have problems, since they return fire with a group, or maybe even have their own sniper(s)! It would add a bigger challenge other than just players. Again, despite the tweaks, I imagine zombies to be something easy to get rid off with decent equipment or tactics. With soldiers, you could also not sneak between them, obviously. Hurr. The stuff lying there would truly be "high-value" loot then, if soldiers would replace zombies in some locations. Like the airfields, and Stary Sobor. Maybe not Cherno tents and fire stations, since they're mostly in starter areas. Or you could add cops with (cheap?) pistols, who may be hostile. Of course, in that case, you'd have to tweak respawn times, I think. If you clear an area of one or several squads, it should remain "safe" for some time. Again, details have to be discussed and conisdered ... and even tested (It's an Alpha. Nothing to lose, besides some gear). But the rough direction is, in my opinion, something worthy. We should take the step as a whole, as community, with the devs, if they deem this step worthy, too. And hey, we can still test it. If it does not work well, we just go back and head in another direction.

Survivor npcs? Will / may encourage S2K / SOS mentality since the guy running / walking / crouching there may be an NPC. I'm all for hostile NPCs with distinctive skins or roles, and also equipment. Equipment would have to be "okay-ish", nothing too cheap perhaps (unless you add a "crazed survivor NPC"), nothing out of the ordinary either. Let's take hostile soldiers with some sort of quarantine order or so. Squad-size, mostly rifles, maybe one marksman with a CZ or so. Basically a big threat compared to zombies, but nothing to "farm". You can't mess with them with shit gear, but can't rely on them for good gear either. Good balance, I think. That's just a rough aspect, though. Many details should be considered, but I generally like the idea of a more ... "filled world". From a realistic standpoint it makes sense. Sure, the military surely took casualties, since they had to move in to fight or contain the stuff. But it's silly to assume they all got slaughtered / did not abandon post when shit hit the fan. I mean, come on. These guys had tanks, a command structure, APCs, trucks, jeeps, weapons, training, menpower. Nothing speaks against a few squads or some sort of presence being around, or roaming around. Of course, in a hostile way. Friendly? Not sure how that would go, and people could just "farm" them then. Or maybe you could add some sort of "ID system". With the right skin, they could ignore or help you? Say, if you have camo / ghillie clothes. Or heck, if they ever add more clothes, you could possibly have a cop / doctor / soldier skin yourself and maybe interact or go with them. Just some thoughts.

I like it. One more hazard! "NPCs will never be in the game" HURRR I wonder what zombies are... Heck, you could put them in some area where no one would really notice. Or make them roam the area.

Chernarus Quarantine Force {CQF}
Combine (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in Clan / Group Recruitment
Well, the group layout is fascinating. I cannot comment on details, however. I merely thought about joining, but you have to realize that handling (a) big faction(s) is never that easy. I have some experience, recruiting many strangers can result in this. I assume CQF does not intend to play like some claim them to play. Dirty, bad, cheap, cowardly. Thus, I'd point at the individuals who really do, rather than the "whole name" (CQF). I, from my limited experience (merely reading here, mind this!) assume they do a lot of good, or did so far. As a whole, I mean. Good that internal politics are now "on the table". Most people can only profit from this, in and beyond CQF. Still running with a group of people. If things change I may consider hanging out on home servers, and possibly joining. -
Making forests scary at night.
Combine (DayZ) replied to Fraggle (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Ghosts, slendermen (or man), mutants. They all don't make sense judging by the current style of the game and / or story. Mutants PERHAPS, I assume. Depends on the details. Bottom line: No place is safe, not even a forest in the middle of nowhere. Reason? Players. I'm open to new stuff, but I like the current way it is: Places with no buildings (loot) around being basically zombie-free. It gives players a place to rest, without taking the risk (other players). -
Question: Why not? They're not "vodoo-zombies", no magic here, at least none is implied by the story. They're just humans on rabies, with some bonuses, and some downsides, too. Physics and biology still apply mostly. Example: If I load their legs with bullets they have to collapse eventually. Or torso, if you want.

Dunno if I get this right, but I doubt the engine currently supports this. You'd possibly have to redesign the game itself, or hope to see this in Arma III, I assume.
-
Let's be honest. It would be another, possibly good horror aspect. But on the other hand, this mod or idea would NOT be the right place for it. It just does not fit, no matter how you spin it.
-
Nah. Also, I thought you meant something else, like this: I personally prefer additional clothes, for example THOSE that zombies wear, but perhaps in a slightly more orderly / clean looking fashion. For example: Priest, villager, suit man, doctor (good for 'dem friendly survivor-medics or so), soldier, cop, worker, etc. and possibly the old bandit skin as clothing. Players could customize them / their playstyle that way. Let's take roles of emergency services / military: Good for more friendly groups. Could be docs, cops, soldiers. Of course, anyone could find 'em, so you'd never know, but still a good thing all in all. And you could blend in with zombies somewhat, due to wider range of skins. Unless they'll show the backpack. If not, it may result in funny situations. From a realism POV / etc? You could "RP" as someone else. It's not like all survivors either wear the standard stuff, some type of camo clothing or a ghillie suit.

Water Bottles, How Many Is Too Many?
Combine (DayZ) replied to Bramacgar's topic in New Player Discussion
Three right now. That is more or less okay-ish if you're roughly in an area with a permanent water source. I may get one more, but not more unless I find a patrol pack, or whatever the biggest one is called. Rest of space is used for medicine, ammo, meat, etc. -
Nice one!

Get rid of all the sniper rifles
Combine (DayZ) replied to whatup2003's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Right, my brief opinion: Dunno why some complain about sniper rifles in general. They're part of the game / world. You could argue about .50 cal snipers, okay. But in general? Nah. They have their uses, AND ALSO DISADVANTAGES. Why? You can't equip a squad with sniper rifles completely, if you wanna loot areas. In fact, you can, but enjoy the disadvantages when having to rely on sidearms, since you can't really be effective in close range compared to say, a rifle, SMG, etc. Especially _IN_ the woods, not from the border or into them, but IN them, it's hard to use sniper rifles. Again, sidearm is more effective, but less than a potential rifle / smg / etc. wielding opponent. It's not OP, minus some .50 cal snipers perhaps. They simply have their uses in other areas. It's "precision" , but sometimes you need a hammer, if you get what I mean. It all comes down to this: Be aware of your surroundings, and chose wisely where to go, how to go there, and when. The guy in the bush could also wield an enfield, AK, etc, and still ruin your day. -

Auge, take my beans and babies! Bravo! Gut gemacht! Hey Server Admins, what have you got to say now, huh?! I can read / confirm the stuff in the pics posted, that evidence is legit. You can even test it via google translator if you want! Foul damn clan / admin cheaters. By now it's pretty simple to say, due to the evidence posted, and by checking some responses.
