Well, I guess that (specific threads) would also work and might spare the mods (who I reckon are also employees or at least trusted, not any random picked members?) additional work. If worst comes to worst one could still report and translate or let someone translate, if anything would require moderation. I suggest anyone thinking about it adding a tag in front of the thread and / or a disclaimer on top of the post when making such thread. At least it seems nicer.

Makes sense now. Eh, actually, it could make sense to have some. Doesn't mean you don't have to speak English but you could organize some stuff "local(ized)". Might require certain mods or support staff to keep clean however. *volunt-...* The mods or whoever checks them can simply get summaries regarding feedback to the game or so. In short, it would seem "modern" but might require some more resources.

are people trying to make the SA to friendly?
Combine (DayZ) replied to dgeesio's topic in General Discussion
"Coast of Duty". Brilliant. If worst comes to worst, let the coast be a killzone for some people then. You can't might it right for all anyway, and one should not listen to all as it's impossible. (No, I'm not saying "Devs, ignore people who say this and that!") We'll see what the devs have in mind and what the community would like to see. In the end it's some sort of compromise anyway, as far as I can imagine. Fact is: Some of the content that will come - some of it known, some other things less so far - will support more group play and cooperation, on whatever level. Other content might encourage more "offensive" or loner ways. Some other content aims to satisfy both. -
are people trying to make the SA to friendly?
Combine (DayZ) replied to dgeesio's topic in General Discussion
Are people getting scared now there could be things ending up in the game that might actively ENCOURAGE groupplay, or what is the problem? In the end, different people, different playstyles. Sanity should be banned on the forum as word? No, words like "carebear" should be, if you ask me. In the end there'll be some middle ground. And if custom servers with their own hives will be allowed, just pick a server that supports your style of playing the game. Done. Fact is, if you look at the features (to come) you'll see stuff that is not so much for loners, but also groups. But please stop arguing with weak arguments. Obviously, no one wants this game to be either "deathmatch central" (everywhere) nor does it have to be "L4D coop PVE" (everywhere). Since there's so far no "rules" on how to play the game, all you can do is tell the others how wrong they are / how right you are. And that is rather useless, eh? -
Chernogorsk. Ran with a fellow recruit to meet up with a squad at a hospital in the old area. On our way we came by the (military) police building, doors closed, right after server restart. It was tempting to check in on that as it was right on the way. So we decided to head for it. About 60 m before I began joking because I witnessed a similar situation as lone player before, being shot at when entering an apparently untouched and closed building. "Oh boy, inb4 we get shot at" and "I have a bad feeling". My comrade was a bit eager or simply faster, so he was the first at the door and opened it. Within miliseconds I could just see him shoot and also get shot at, not sure who fired first. He then collapsed, dead. I just stood there for a moment before I just engaged. I raised the M4 and entered, attempting to secure and terminate. He was right around the corner with a mosin as I moved towards it. For some reason he didn't hid me and I turned him into swiss cheese. Very interesting moment. I then moved on because I saw even more people appear from the back, certainly server hoppers or similar. Well, that's what people get for not just checking on those buildings but logging right into them. The 2-3 kills after that were more interesting however. We got ambushed by a squad in the same area. It turned into a heated battle where we exchanged fire and moved a bit around. We lost more and more people, one to glitches. Two of us were left on the hospital roof, another member ran around somewhere. They cornered us up there and killed my pal, leaving me there. Alone. Then they began talking shit, saying something about drinking the blood of our people that just got wiped. They were being cocky, stupid. And then embarassed themselves after that shit show they pulled off, because the last guy alive in the area (me) wiped their hole squad when they got too greedy. T'was better, imo.

Obviously I'd like to have that, like many others. But it would have to fit to the map and engine (technical). Dreams are one thing. Realizing them ... perhaps new maps will come. Regardless: I do think the new Cherno is already doing a good job more or less providing that feeling. You could add some more buildings in between, but it's way better and feels more natural than before. And the current map is not final as I hear left and right, so, who knows... But I don't really expect to see a "New York type of city" here. Perhaps in a modded variant, if these will be allowed.

From a gameplay POV I think it would not be very productive to force players to stick to cannibalism once tried. It would increase killing and certain "offensive playstyles". It would also be a disadvantage because you may not encounter more people, but always normal food (spawns). I see no problem with shaking hands however. Obviously, it does not have to be instant and after the first time. But if you keep doing it... (possibly WITHOUT eating anything else to even it out...) then you might put yourself at risk. But maybe there can be some balance or compromise to incorporate certain realistic drawbacks. Maybe increased infection risk when consuming, or so.

Communities/player controlled towns
Combine (DayZ) replied to Master_Corruptor's topic in Suggestions
It should be noted that this kind of stuff seems apparently easier on private / own hives, for obvious reasons as far as we can tell right now. Won't loot eventually respawn in later versions anyway? That could be an incentive to hold a town. Would also depend on zombie respawn under normal circumstances however. From the dev (or modder, later on perhaps if that'll be allowed) POV that stuff can be expanded slightly however. Some more gimmicks or features to "settle in" a bit longer. -
Why do you have to keep eating people (even writing this seems kinda weird, dayum) after doing that? Not like it's an addiction, eh? Moreso a necessity or so, as far as I can imagine. What should be in is that you get the shakes after some time. (Lack of?) Nutrition or w/e it is. Basically, you might have a new mobile potential food supply but it comes at a price. If your hands are shaky, go figure aiming. Or, if you want to expand on it, go figure doing stuff that'd require calmer hands.

You can still help people. No need to go BANZAI on all because of the bad apples if you truly are that kind of player. I guess while the experience may be frustrating, you partially have yourself to blame. Maintain minimum distance and have clear rules / warnings. If anyone fucks up and dies it's usually their fault. The helper included. I once saw a "server hopper" (I think? Maybe the person just hid there) in a firestation tower at Elektrozavodsk. I came up in full military gear and a Mosin or M4, up the stairs slowly. When I saw him I was already in range. He had civilian clothing as if a fresh spawn, holding a pistol (not raised), cowering in the corner and mumbling something I didn't understand. We just stood there for a second, staring at each other before I backed down slowly. I then realized that we probably both could've ended each others lives quickly (if his gun was loaded anyway), yet we didn't. I ran off and yelled "Goodbye!" or something. Those are the moments I love in DayZ. The most simple human encounter or interaction turning into some kind of stalemate and brainfuck moment with unclear and open results. One does not get that by shooting anything that moves. That's also a point that shows that not every player is going banzai to get your shit. At least not under all circumstances. So I guess it's worth it, I guess. I recommend that you join a semi-friendly group however, though. Different experience, less risk working in squads, etc.

^ lol Yes, berets sound like a good idea. For 'dem squads (well, squad leaders or w/e) out there especially.

Let me handcuff you, it won't take long to struggle out
Combine (DayZ) replied to Hetstaine's topic in Gallery
By Itchycock. Seems legit. -
I hope we get to see an increase in rendering distance eventually.

Just join a group that tries to help people in general. That would be one of a few possible steps anyone can take to reduce KOS a bit. Not totally.

What random events would you like to see?
Combine (DayZ) replied to Roshi (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Okay, I laughed. That was a good one. As for the reasons, I dunno. Evac is apparently a no go as we would be gone from the map, unless one was to add camps to the map where one could be brought. Who drops the supplies? Some mil remnants of Chernarus or even military / relief groups from another place to aid survivors. Why? Supporting them could be a long-term plan to make the region more stable or just to help people. Bombing chernarus? Already a suggestion. Bombing major cities from time to time or abandoned bases to kill zombies. And by bombing I don't mean nukes or anything "overkill" but smaller stuff such as mortars or so. -
Damn, sounds like highly paranoid people, Regulator. One might also say "dumb people" :D

Just because you see no other way to play the game does not mean there is no other way, though ;) And other ways of playing the game can be rewarding. It depends on what you're into, but saying "This and that is generally wrong" is ... well, wrong.
-
It's a risk and reward thing. They can still shoot you even if you comply. You could therefore try to run, but that does not mean you always should run and expect to live. Sometimes you just have to accept it. If you're in an open field and get surrounded, don't try to run and then complain you got shot. You may have lived through it otherwise. Sometimes it's the right call, sometimes not. Only if people don't look at other ways to play the game or don't get creative.

What random events would you like to see?
Combine (DayZ) replied to Roshi (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Just curious, is there a source for the exact or rough timespan? It's pretty clear this isn't right after the apocalypse as most places are lost / abandoned, as one can clearly see in the game. And cars have been there some time. But "some years" seems a bit too much in my opinion. Considering certain loot spawns and / or item condition and personal flavor, I mean. So far I assumed something in between. It's been some time ago, but not "ages". And even then one could still "justify" the named things due to intervention of other forces. But I guess in the end it depends on the developers. Maybe it changes? And if not I'm sure some custom variant will incorporate that. But they are apparently planned, thus allowed. Quote: So, apparently: If the Devs don't add certain stuff, custom servers or game variants probably can. -
What random events would you like to see?
Combine (DayZ) replied to Roshi (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Could make 'em unlootable or only drop generic / predefined stuff. Which may or may not be totally ruined as to prevent "farming NPCs", or at least "farming good stuff from NPCs". Sounds like a cool thing to witness though. And some more friendly groups could benefit from that by having temporary staging or relief points? Just an example. I actually doubt we get to see that (at least in "vanilla") but I do admit that it would be nice to see. -
The difference is (at least I see it as a vital difference): You did not pay for the Alpha. You paid for the game AND early access (testing) to it, possibly with a discount. And you, directly or indirectly, get to influence it by giving feedback. Also it seems quite normal now. If I look around just a bit (or on Steam) I see various titles in Alpha or Beta. Minecraft is an example where you paid for Beta, possibly Alpha. StarForge. Arma 3. Space Engineers or whatever that other thing in Space is called. Difference is: You pay for the complete game, not just testing, which might be ridiculous. The Devs can already work with the money early on, and there's often discounts involved. A win / win for all, no? No one forces anyone to buy early on; if they do and want to play they have to accept what's there by then or play it later on.

It's simple. Everything has advantages and disadvantages, sometimes depending on the situation it can change. Fact is: People who KOS (literally, every time) and are loners don't get to see all of the possible content in a multiplayer and sandbox (basically) environment such as this. I'd go and far and say they could have the same life expectancy than other people because KOS means use of violence. Gunfights. Exposing yourself to the area, just like someone speaking to other people. Though the range is higher if you fire guns than speaking. Depending on where they are during what time they can never be certain that the guy they just killed in cold blood does not have his pals around the corner or inbound. Or that some other people come investigate. They could also end up highly paranoid of their gear or surroundings, to name examples. Anything is possible. I personally dislike the KOS (as in "EVERYTHING IS HOSTILE, FIRE!") mentality however. It's the easy way out but also prevents most of the social / player interaction (apart from point and click) that truly makes the DayZ experience unique. And no, that does not mean I'm totally against PVP or so. People should keep in mind that it can ruin the day of other players though. One wins, another loses. But I guess that's part of the game in general.

Useless thread (imo) apart from "venting". That was the deal, right? To vent? In my opinion it is very simple. Some things most of you should've heard by now. 1) Alpha - Stability in gameplay and technical terms cannot be guaranteed at all times 2) Don't get too attached to the gear (for now) 3) It is a game 4) You are not the center of the world when you rant 5) If something bugs you, don't post being pissed off. Being butthurt. Take a break, post later perhaps. If you post, be as constructive as possible I also died to a bug. Character reset. I was briefly pissed. It happens. I also got reset a bit recently because playing during hive problems is apparently bad. I also get some more lag than before. So what?! It has to be expected due to 1). And I take a short break and know that 2) and 3) also apply there. And that I should remember 4) and 5) when posting. All these really bad (not necessarily pointing at JUST the OP here, but in general) rants do not show how bad the supposed (unfinished but very much playable, all in all) game is. It shows how bad you are at self-control or providing constructive feedback. And they are often just a waste of time. I also love the "demanding", I've seen more than one post where people demand things from Rocket himself. You are not the center of the world, stop "demanding" things because you are butthurt you lost a char or some fun during an alpha. Be fucking glad you can play this unfinished game right now, spoiled brats. If anyone feels offended by this, think deeply and why. This has also nothing to do with "fanboyism". Dislike it, but at least don't be a dick about it. Post constructive stuff if you really care and want stuff to change to be better. Don't rant and waste bandwith, time and keystrokes. And stop insulting others with mean words, what are you, 12? Deal with it. The right way.

Some people can't read or forget stuff. Or can't think / forget stuff when they become emotional or pissed off. In my book we should all be thankful for that big alpha reminder. I can't really recall anything similar (in that form) even discouraging purchase unless (reasons stated).
-
Another emotional post. It's kinda getting old here. Or was that just "fun" / sarcasm? Hard to tell in pure written form. Look, you're not the epicenter of the world, even if people are angry for some reason despite big warnings. "B-b-but it could've been better!!1". Jesus, it can always be better, but no one is apparently already happy with what's there. Other point: It could've been worse for alpha release, but people don't seem to get that. It's a (sorry for the language) fucking game in alpha, (to be) redesigned / rewritten in many aspects. So who gives a damn if people here can't play for a few days because someone else is messing with the server infrastructure (DDOS or w/e). Who really cares if someone loses his character in an alpha / testing phase. Who cares what people really expected despite big warnings? I'm sorry, constructive criticism and even disappointment are one thing, but the mass of posts complaining (rant-like or similar) get annoying. Some hours ago servers started getting inaccessible, not sure if it's fixed yet. It's a bummer but not the end of the world. You'll all get your basically polished product. Eventually. If people can't live with that then I strongly advise buying games labeled as at least "beta version" or even finished ones. I also advise not to post when emotionally pissed off or "butthurt". Not saying OP is necessarily that but you see enough posts here going into THAT direction. It's just distracting and sometimes annoying.
