    I personally see little gameplay relevance unless you really want to make the game as realistic as possible (still, it's a game. Really, you want to have animations for shitting and pissing, too??). I can already see the troll videos come out of every direction, should this be implemented. Also, if you add this because "realizm" then you might as well have to add mechanisms to determine the ... volume. It's not like you can't do it more quietly or so.

    Any piece of clothing you associate with bandits?

    Mostly payday masks. Then again, any bandit could wear other masks or none at all, and any friendly / neutral person could wear a payday mask. It's really hard to tell. Rule of thumb could be: The more / better gear a person has, the more they might be inclined to shoot at you without any real reason. If they're not bandits they could be paranoid of their useless gear. Then again, plenty of armed / geared people being possibly friendly, too. I guess we have to wait a bit more. When way more clothing is present in the game, normal bandits / murderer will probably stick to more "classic" clothing. Whatever that may be.

    I think this is a bad idea. It seems bad (stupid) from a gameplay and lore POV. To me at least. Would the benefit justify the effort? I don't think so.

    Ah, action and reaction. It's kinda interesting if you think about it. Maybe he was supposedly friendly but just not ... able to talk. Didn't want to perhaps? Maybe it was a kid, embarassed? And then you shot him, and he got all confused and angry and will, from now on, shoot on sight? Seems kinda silly, but who knows? Or maybe, kid or not, the guy was actually close to blowing your brains out, abusing your nice behavior. In that case you saved your virtual life. Who knows? Summary: I think this was okay. You were nice (but so was he, initially at least), tried communication but failed. And he kept pointing the gun at you. Can hardly blame you OP, I think. Imo, when both or all parties involved in a direct confrontation communicate, only then can a rather peaceful solution occur. Until then it's doubts and risks. Or more of them anyway.

    Check the wiki. It says saline restores blood fully (and perhaps "energy / health"). As soon as you have enough (or full) blood, you begin to restore energy ("health").

    It's fine as it is in general. You have fists, you can use them. Some melee prot would be nice though. It's not that easy to knock someone out if he's fighting back. You can also dodge a bit already. Certain items should give definite (quick) knockout protection however.

    Again, if people fear "sudden endless abuse by everyone" (wat? Why?) then you might as well cut out written and verbal chat, too. Not really a good idea to punish all because of a few, right? Besides, see someone with a stupid symbol? Get rid of him ingame. That's what you can or have to do right now anyway if someone annoys you in chat or via VOIP. That's what I did. I'm not even saying using stupid symbols or logos (like, really stupid) would never occur. It might just happen. But same as chat (VOIP or written). So many benefit from that, still, you get the occasional stupid remark in there. I see three options in the long run: 1) The devs do not add any "ID system" (not counting clothing / gear that will be added but does not primarily serve as group identifier if you get what I mean) 2) The devs enable squad.xml and / or 3) The devs add specific items just for this purpose, perhaps armbands or patches as item Let's assume 2 or 3 might happen. I'm personally fine with 2 and 3. Anything helps, really. In that case I don't want to be "picky". Items instead of squad xml? Okay, a few people out of the roughly 850k players (or the active ones out of these, in turn) might not pick stupid symbols for some time. However there's a price to pay there, too. You can't expect the devs to add a brazillion different squad patches or armbands, which would then all have to be distributed via loot, or how do people imagine that? You'd find random group or generalized items left and right then; it could take ages to get sorted out for your group. All players in turn would have to rely / draw on that pool. Or do you just want like 5 different colors? 2? Squad.xml? Simple solution. Anyone or any group can make their own logo and then use it. Maximum customization in those regards. Little dev work but big impact, minus the few who'd use stupid symbols perhaps. But hey, VOIP and stuff can also be used in negative ways, so what? Compromise Let's say, the devs would not like a pure squad.xml feature for whatever reason. Let's say the penis or swastika a few people might use would be a total threat to gameplay or immersion while people hack or shoot away at each other left and right, or resort to cannibalism (to come). Well, again, I can understand some concerns. And if I think about it, I wouldn't really want to see certain symbols. You could just kill the person with the stupid symbols, but it might still be weird. Anyway, a possible compromise regarding gameplay, moderation and customization: Add a simple item or few items to the game that allows you to craft patches / armbands. These would have to be required in a designated character slot, much like glasses or a backpack. Having this item on your character enables you squad xml usage (you have to set it in addition, obviously, or it might show nothing). That way, not everyone can use any custom symbols right away, but getting there might not be overly complicated. As for moderation? Well ... if there's too much fear of "abuse" on dev side, they could perhaps add certain mechanisms. I'm thinking of a report function (however that may work) or perhaps forcing players / groups to submit their symbols before being able to use them. For potentially all or just groups. Some kind of "symbol whitelist". Requires resources and continuous work, however. Last straw Compared to the mod I can still imagine one thing here. If all else fails, one could perhaps see how custom servers (not just private as in private hive and some settings changed) will be supported, if at all. Perhaps servers with their own hive can be modified further, at least to allow this squad xml feature or something similar.

    As for the "How would you(r group) get elaborate symbol XY?" argument: Well, some actually play military groups or similar who'd have the means. They'd have patches / logos already. And even then nearly anyone could use nearly anything freely because these things basically represent patches on characters. That anyone may have found, for example a medic patch or even symbol drawn themselves. In short: You have a military group? Use something fitting. You have a rag-tag civilian / survivor group? Use something more appropriate like graffiti or something. A lot is possible with this as it would rely on pictures anyone could edit and customize. Take something existing already like a medical patch. Add certain textures to them. Use comic stuff. Etc.

    I don't really understand the abuse argument. They lack consistency, or let me put it in other words: This would be a vital addition to the game. Many would benefit from this. Yet, people are apparently somewhat cautious, even against it because some could / would abuse it? At least that's what I see in some arguments. I can even understand that to some degree, but who prevents anyone from abusing what's already there? Typing similar things in chat, saying them via VOIP, etc ? Sure, it may not be as "visual" in some cases but just as intrusive to some. I even saw a basically racial slur in the game already, referring to my character I spawned in. Justice was kinda served as I beat the guy unconscious, but still. Would we have to restrict the chat or VOIP now? I don't think so. Or let me put it in even simpler words. The benefits seem to outweigh the risks here. Same with VOIP. /need

    Direct Communication Distance

    Rule of thumb or estimate is about 80 meters. But MAYBE that changed! Don't quote me on that, if you can, try it out yourself in the game with a pal or stranger. Also, it is advised to have both the in- AND output to high. That way you speak as clear (or loud) as possible but also hear anyone else, too. Both can be set in the sound options of the game. This does not take your microphone volume as set by the system in effect, however. One should also check that value and adapt as necessary. Also, VOIP quality drops a bit. Your input is not the same as the output. In general it should still have enough quality though. Even if it could be a bit better.

    That's understandable, but also slightly disappointing. Well, I guess if more custom servers (with mods, basically) will be allowed then one could perhaps see NPCs. I personally don't really MUST have them, but it might be nice depending on what you do with them.

    Quick other question, can someone point me to an official statement that says DayZ plays (many) years after the event X? Simply because knowing the timespan would influence many suggestions. Or could. I get that it's not right after. The broken cars and mostly abandoned cities imply some time passed. But then again certain item / food spawns imply it couldn't have been years because all the apples n' stuff would be bad. Some cities might also seem more "green" after such a timespan as far as I can imagine, without any maintenance and such. Both both these things could have gameplay / technical reasons, so ... I guess we can only guess unless someone whips out a precise statement about it. As for forest fires: Nice idea, but might be too complicated from what I can guess. The idea to need certain equipment to enter certain areas (even if just certain big buildings or so) sounds interesting, however.

    Personal shit-chat / trolling aside here, to the actual topic: I find ghosting very irritating or the worst things you can do right now without using cheat software (no, I don't consider that "hacking" unless you would use the word "hacking" in a rather liberal way) simply because it's, well ... retarded. It's not playing fair even by DayZ game standards. It can be annoying. It is annoying. The pure concept is somewhat funny and annoying at the same time as I try to picture people sitting in front of their PC, going "LOL lets fuk shit up and own dem nubs!" mentally or worse verbally as they try to ghost out or into a situation, w/e. But guess what? Why even complain anyway, annoying or not. Or why complain when there's a solution or fix on the horizon. The thing to fix this very soon would be private hives I guess.

    Squad Identification

    I like the ideas. Especially armbands or similar. As for sown in patches, I would also like to point towards this (kinda vital) thread / idea: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/162124-like-to-see-squadxml-added/ This basically lets players add their own patches to vehicles and clothing alike without any dev effort (other than enabling this thing). You can't customize (patches) more than that, so that's a big plus. Anyone could make and use a group logo or something else, like a medical patch to imply there's a medic at work. That might be one of the steps in customization and identification. Obviously there'll be more clothing but one could combine. Squad.xml (custom patch) + armband + certain look + facepaint = perfect look / identification.

    DayZ has never felt like a Zombie based game, what it needs.

    In my opinion the map does not just need eventual (planned anyway) expansion as in new areas. One could add a bit more to existing areas. Some areas were already revamped, but it could be "slightly" better. A biological apocalypse or similar took place. There would be hints for this in the major cities or the capital at least, I assume. There's already hints all over the map, but they seem more like hints than leftovers, if you know what I mean. Didn't follow any dev blogs about this topic however, so one could enlighten me. Apart from that: They don't have to clutter the whole map with this, that might be overkill. But it might be a nice change of scenery to have more clues about this in the major cities, even if just Cherno for starters. Some locked up buildings (or partially), a few corpses or piles of them, areas under (attempted or already broken) lockdown, etc. Nvm that if they clearly say "no" to this or if that's already planned.

    Keep in mind that actual quality degrades. Output is not 100% (or close) compared to input. But in any case it should suffice. Just don't expect a "1:1" thing. E: And do check audio settings. Some should probably raise their output volume a bit.
