Why does every person with a gun shoot on sight?

Well, my take on it: "Why does every person with a gun shoot on sight?" Not all do, that's a fact. You have to be somewhat lucky be at the right place at the right time and encounter the right people. In turn, I view pure KOS as the easy way out, and also as boring in the long run. Sure, it can be exciting but might just lead to a lower life expectancy, simply because any combat you initiate or take part in can mean unforeseen consequences. Yeah, no cops will come in Chernarus anymore, but maybe something worse. Besides, there are already groups around that basically replace law enforcement, depending on the server you or they play on. So it's not like "KOS is the most rewarding way", unless you count "death" as reward among that. As a loner you might tend to get paranoid, at least I was until I joined up with a group that helps certain people. Really, if you think long enough, everything has pros and cons.

Why is the goal; servers able to support 150 players?

Keep in mind, the map we have now is supposedly not finished. That could either mean two things, or both: They will add more places or finish unfinished stuff on the current map and / or increase map size to the north or west. Or perhaps even add some to the east / south (small isles or whatever you call it?) And even then, I guess it would be up to individual servers to determine max players. Meaning that if 150 are possible, you don't have to play there. Not every server will turn into a 150 server, just saying. And it's a lot, really. That's currently nearly 4 full servers (minus 10) in one. But it could be fun if loot slowly respawns and if you also have groups moving about, not just 150 loners ... that may be inclined to shoot at everything. It could be pure deathmatch or it could be very awesome. Or let's not talk about 150. 100 or 80 is still a lot.

    Well, that was interesting.

Special Player Skins For Alpha Participants.

I wouldn't go apeshit with rewards, if there'll be any. A DayZ T-Shirt may also seem out of place, if you ask me. Really, perhaps give them the option in character selection to spawn with a certain mask, shirt, hoodie or armband (or badge?) that can or can not be looted but dropped. Some goodie, but not too much. It should also fit within the game world I think.

incentive not to kill everyone you find

There will be more incentives for cooperation between strangers once more zombies pop up. Shooting your gun as loner might be your death sentence. Right now other players could investigate. In the future, many more "people" will come investigate, and they'll be angry. In turn, people either have to be very stealthy or cooperate if they want to get certain stuff done. This will result in easier task management in groups, compared to loners. But psst, even though a lot is yet missing, there are already many incentives present. Common sense. You can, in theory, achieve more in a group right now. As for the "Why let someone live when you could take their loot" greed argument: Unless you're totally starving or greedy, I see little reason in there because of the manpower, the stuff you ruin upon killing someone and the carrying capacity. You can only carry so much and can't haul corpses with the remaining loot around. In short, in a group your survival chance is theoretically higher. Same if you don't shoot at everything, and you never know who you might shoot at. The buddies could be nearby, killing you for that.

    DayZ Standalone: Random DayZ

Actually, I would totally believe this to be random stuff. It's DayZ, man. Look at all the other funny and (yet) known videos about the SA or even some older mod vids. You can see crazy, non staged stuff :D God, I love this game. If KOS was slightly less popular, it'd be more epic. I already witnessed some weird shit ingame. We were once sniping bandits in Cherno, multiple teams next to each other on certain buildings. Suddenly a guy calls out: "What the fuck? This guy taunting me... who is this asshole?" We go like "What?" and look around. And there he was, unspotted despite our overview and control of the area. A lone guy standing on one of the apartments, giving us all the finger. Who knows how long he stood there. It's one of these absurd moments you can only find in DayZ, I guess. And if you check some videos, there's even crazier shit going on.

    Strength in numbers?

I was once with 30 people (no shit). But that was a one-time occurrence. Still, the group I'm in is large, and it depends on the mission and how many are around. Sometimes a really small squad, sometimes a larger group. On average? In between 5 to 15. But depends on what you understand as "play with". If you mean in your direct area, then about 4 to 10-ish. Overall (on server), the number could potentially double, not including allied groups. The bigger the group gets, the harder managing gets in practice. There are also pros and cons for being alone, in a small group and in a large® group. Everything has a price, so to speak.

    More Roleplaying please?

"RP" as word or term is being thrown about more lightly here anyway, I think. I'd speak of "semi-RP" or something anyway. You don't have to go "full RP" to enjoy the game, most of the stuff is or can be part of the game anyway. If you want to help someone, just do it. You can immerse yourself in the game without resorting to a "full character" if you know what I mean. Or, well, let's talk about "Light Roleplay" or stuff, not the classic stuff. E: Hope that made sense.

10 Man Squad getting Ghosted On?...

Nevermind me then, Zeet. I apparently misinterpreted that. Then again, as cowardly as that my be, it's more or less a "legit way to play the game". Not the ghosting, the big KOS groups I mean. I don't like it, but well ... no one is invincible.

10 Man Squad getting Ghosted On?...

I think Zeet does not like groups! Anyway, I roll in groups. It's usually safer. It's easier to attack bigger groups, but it's also easier to survive in bigger and somewhat organized groups. And no, it's not a bandit or KOS group. Actually trying to help anyone who's not a bandit or psycho murderer. You can still die, but the chances are different because you have people covering you. And it's fun, anyway.

    Unconscious Cam

Usually, it should be black to prevent such stuff.

    Poisoned bullets?

Not really. The damage stays, they only stop the bleeding. Also, if they hit and break the legs... I don't consider that "good as new", to be honest. Also, bandaging up right in combat can be dangerous. Or maybe you meant something else.
  13. Combine (DayZ)

    More Roleplaying please?

That's of kind lame. Feel ashamed! :D

We Showed A Guy The Fastest Route To Cherno

I wouldn't say "You did him a favor". Because we all don't know what he was thinking or intending. If he just wanted to be shot / die to respawn more closely, he would've probably done something. Maybe he wanted to go there the old fashioned way, as intended. *shrug*
  15. Combine (DayZ)

    Why you can't trust anyone.

Remember: Just because there are "dicks" (rude / evil / psycho) people out there doesn't mean you can't trust anyone. You just have to find nice or neutral people (yet). There are even whole groups out there, helping others who are not murderers / bandits. And regardless you gotta be careful. Even if someone starts talking, it could still go south. Having some backup might be useful just in case. Otherwise, if you're alone and meet another unknown player, I'd honestly try to avoid close contact or adhere to certain security rules.

    Ballistic vest and Press Vest?

Uhm, regarding some post earlier unless I didn't read that right: Ballistic vest != (a) ballistic vest. To specify, people can refer to the rare "Ballistic vest" (item name) or a vest with ballistic protection, more than common in military spawns. UK assault vests, tactical vest, etc.

CaseCeption - now whats going on here? o.O

Wait. Isn't it so that you get no bonus doing this, or rather, the only bonus you have is carrying multiple backpacks to give to a friend? Last I heard is that putting a backpack in a backpack takes all the slots. Or at least if they're the same, or so. Is that not true?
  19. Combine (DayZ)

    Chernarus Run

Yeah, because a a naked guy running around with no backpack or weapon (thus, no container, nothing to hold) is a threat or worthy target to 3-4 armed and geared people. What are they doing so close on the coast, one could wonder? Obviously no aid mission because the guy got shot. But I don't want to turn this into another discussion or topic. I laughed when the other guy ran a bit with you.

Arm bands(Ways to tell who's who)

Well, considering the game should begin to "flesh out" in about 6 months or that area, yeeaaaaahhh ... tough luck :P

    Communication.

While your concern is understandable via principle, you also have to understand that some of these reactions are not exactly "random". You see various other things on this forum, so one could be a bit cynical and assume certain things. Justified or not. If you want to call that or some of that "fanboyism", that's your call. It's not like people have to jump in front of the game to take a bullet for it. Most games is not "this one game", on the other hand. In the end, if you're unhappy with development time (and or communication of said time) then you gotta deal with it. It might be annoying to you, but you can't change it. It takes time to finish certain tasks. The other implication would be "The devs are lazy", but in both cases you can't really help it in the end.

I laughed at the .gif. The gif shows some community behavior, too. And KoS can be funny. I mean the member. Man, it's funny. Okay, anyway. It's been about a week since the last update. Do you expect DAILY updates, or all 2? What would they post about? Well, they COULD say "Now we're trying this or that!" but it could be stupid if they have to change that all the time. Might as well post when stuff is done, or done as intended. And a week is not that long, really. Say, it was a month ... well shit, then we could talk.

Combat Logger / Ghoster Exposed - DUCK YOU IF YOU DO THIS

Well, of course this guy is sorry after he got caught. At least that could be the case. Most are only sorry if they get caught and called out on it, perhaps in a manner like this. Keep doing that stuff. Combat logging is one thing. It's still annoying and going against gameplay. But if we were to compare, I think ghosting is worse. At least slightly. But hey, it'll be somewhat fixed as soon as private hives are possible. At least, that would be one of a few possible solutions for a server.

    Bandits are BORING!

I personally don't think the advice "SHOOT SHIT BEFORE IT SHOOTS YOU" (generalized) is really good. Ironically it would make the problem worse. Btw, I do consider "Bandits" to be people with some honor left, also being a bit creative at times. I don't really consider people sniping coastal people - not even bothering to eventually loot the bodies - being bandits. I'd rather say: "Shoot confirmed threats before they shoot you or don't get spotted." Remember, there are also neutral or friendlier people running around, some in groups. Even if many apparently just shoot at everything else.
