    I'm new and need tips

If you run into a bandit, he will say thank you after he kills you.
  2. There is another post in this subsection where I wrote tips. Check it out. Here is a couple more. 1. Going to electro is bad news, unless you are looking for pvp action. Electro is more active in terms of pvp than cherno with the new patch. 2. Dealing with snipers. If its in the woods, you need to use the trees as cover, most trees provide perfect protection from gunfire. Do not blindly run away. You can try to locate him and sneak up on him. If you are pinned down and you have nothing, wait out the timer and combat log (since you waited, its fine). Snipers rarely close in and nothing pisses them off more than losing you as an easy bambi. If you are in main cities, you will just have to learn from experience where snipers are likely to be. There are usually 4-6 places where snipers like to camp, either within the city or nearby. Once you know those locations, you can scout them out before moving around. 3. Antibotics. It's easier to find them in barracks and the medical tents than hospitals. I hear balota is a good place to find some nowadays. I don't know, since the easier place for me to find med supplies is off other players. 4. The best tip for a beginner is to join a non-bandit clan. The game is so much better when you are playing with others. It's very hard not to get killed when you are playing alone because, just the glitches alone in the game, are enough to kill you.

    A Noobie's Impression and comments

OP, don't let the negative comments ruin the game for you. The "hardcore" fanboys love to brag about how l33t they are. Here are my tips: 1. Surviving and learning dayz by yourself is not really that fun. You need to be able to enjoy all the different stuff there is to do in the game. So the thing to do is join a non-bandit clan. Those guys do nothing but loot farm anyways, they can get you geared up right away. And the game in infinitely more fun when you are playing with some mates. On vanilla servers, duping is back I hear, so you can get lots of good gear to try out, lol. Joining a clan will also get you access to cars, helis, camps, etc. So this will add alot of new and enjoyable things for you to do. 2. About zombies, the new golden rule is don't run anywhere near them. If they are 1m from you, they are able to hit you, so make sure you give them a wide berth when they are aggoed. 3. If you need supplies, just aggo zeds and kill them in one of the big storage, farms, etc. So much easier than looking through tin cans. Once you kill about 20-30, you should be well supplied for a while. The range on the axe is like 2m, so you should not get hit back if you keep that in mind. 4. I mainly get antibotics off of other players, lol. 5. There are several exploits that the l33t players use, you should also use those too. Given that these are common and unfixable, they must be features of the game. One is the ammo duping (put used ammo, has to have more than 1 round left in mag, in your bag, disconnect and come back, you now have a full mag), bushes (you can sit in a pine tree, the leaves will provide protection and the zed cannot hit you), etc. 6. Until you are ready for pvp, you should avoid other players. Normally, I would recommend looting the main cities, given that with the new patches these are ghost towns, but the cities no longer have any real loot. You are better off looting barns and barracks for guns. Storage, construction, and orange buildings for ammo and other supplies.
  4. My post was not in response to you but if you want to insult me go ahead. Your opinion was so important to me, I will have to go have a good cry now. Electro trying to get yourself killed and cant: this was the gist of your post? You did it 1 time and assume that your experience is universal for everyone? Who looks stupid assuming that? You have one experience and I have another. Both can exists at the same time and not invalidate each other! Sheesh. I have been playing with the 1.7.7 and 1.7.7.1 patches since these were release across maybe 20 servers. I have not seen the game improve in terms of me having more "fun." Instead, I have seen deserted towns with full servers. I have seen zed aggo that are stupid, such as me personally aggo 20 zeds who spawn out of nowhere next to (10m) me on a server with 3 ppl. So many zeds spawn and from so many directions, it was impossible to loot anything. I have been to hospitals with server reboot and glass not broken and seen no medical supplies spawning. No medical supplies in medical tents either. So would I have fun going from cherno to balota tents to get med supplies now? This is fun?
  5. Before these idiotic patches, I always get the yen to play dayz after a few days of not playing. Now, I feel nothing. You mountain man survivors have won. It's so fun to spent an hour finding a gun! weeeeeeeee! It great to go north and build a base and sit and stare at the moon! It's so fun to play pve away from people, so that hours can pass and you see no one. It great to sneak through electro and aggo no zeds because you are l33t at survival. Sheesh. But for the real, l33t survivorist (who never let us forget this), 1.7.7.1 is now too easy. Too easy on the pve because you guys must be pretty bad at the pvp. And there I think, is the real problem. The people who are good at pve suck at pvp (because pvp, like anything in dayz is a learned skill). And people like me who like pvp, like it because we are bored to death with pve. I have already made the base up north (many lifetimes ago) and its now boring as hell to do it again. Same with fixing a car, flying a heli, get the l33t sniper, etc. For people like me, 1.7.7 and 1.7.7.1 have sucked all the life out of the game. You go anywhere and its a ghost town or hacker haven. You meet people and they are not armed with anything - so fights are pathetic. If there are people in towns, you can hear a dmr sniper just sitting on a roof or outside of town. With the zeds aggo the way it is, how to you hide from the sniper or try to fight him? You guys win, beans for you all!
  6. lol with all these hardcore ppl saying 1.7.7.1 is too easy. Stop playing on a server with 5 ppl and come big cities and trying running around with both zed and ppl gunning for you. It's "too easy" no matter the patch if you play with only 5 other ppl, are crawling through a small town with only 5 other ppl, are aggoing zeds when in a big town when you the only one on the server. Please. Nearly every server i got to, the big cities are a ghost town. Good patches bros!

    Teach me the bandit ways!

Stupid definition of bandit. I love bandits who try to hold me up, you get the drop on them easier. Only tip you need as a bandit is, if you hear "I'm friendly," shoot them. ed: i guess other tips would be (1) don't love your gear (2) you will die alot, so enjoy your kills and (3) counter snipe the camper snipers, most suck and that's why they are camping.
  8. If you guys would just stop playing on 5 ppl servers, come on a big one. When you get chased by zeds and knocked down, I will be happy to shoot you as you try to get back up. But since you guys hide away in little towns anyways...
  9. So having a turban on your head didnt help identify bandits? And as if that helped with current bandits, lol.
  10. Just tried 1.7.7.1 this morning. Patch is still stupid. Endless zombie spawning all over. I don't have time to crawl for an hour to get tin cans.
  11. I don't agree with alot of your argument but it was good and thoughtful, beans to you dude! Only thing I can say is that, rocket might have a vision, but that doesnt mean he's always right. I am pretty sure that he is as shocked as anyone that dayz grew so popular. Dayz, unlike arma 2, is not niche. It has a chance to be mainstream and that's not a bad thing. We need another vision of fps to compete with css and cod. It's aint arma 2. It's dayz. In regards to the "game has to be fun for everyone." What I meant was that it should fun for all the different types of people who love dayz and, as is very clear on this forum, there are many, many different types of players who play and love dayz.
  12. There is no other game where things like this can happen. That's why dayz is great.
  13. Been on that server, its cool as hell but it should happen everytime you die (which it doesn't).
  14. Its ideas like this that the mod developers should be considering instead of adding stupid stuff and doing more stuff to limit player choices. If not this idea, than have it that you can spawn on any of the outer land quadrants of the map. That will force people to visit areas they never go to and will make for alot more variety of encounters.
  15. If the "zombies are now too easy, not like in 1.7.7" people are right, then let's see how many servers will revert back to 1.7.7 where everything was fun and stealthy. Watch how many servers do that over the next few weeks and what the player base for that will be? My bet is not many. In 1.7.7, I have seen every server I regularly play on, over 40, lose players.

Why don't people leave the coast?

I can tell you guys why I don't leave the coast. 1. My buddies and I can only play for a 2-3 hours tops when together. Heading north takes 30-40 minutes depending on where you are. And so we get there, what are we suppose to do that we can't do at in the south? Since we probably spawn at different points, meeting up can take even longer. If you don't have a map, you can add even more time. By the time you meet up, that could be 1hr or more. It's stupid when the entire point of gaming together is to have fun together but it might take an hour to meet up. 2. Suppose we played before and are already north, so forget #1. There are more snipers hiding in the woods in the north (I only play on big servers). You are as likely to run into a camping sniper as you are to run into another group of players. If one of you dies, what should you do? Do the people living go into the woods to be good mountain men and play by themselves, saying "see ya next time to their friend?" Should they head south to meet the respawned buddy halfway? Should they wait another 30-45 minutes for their buddy to head up north? So if a buddy dies, that 2-3 hour play session is pretty much dead in the water for him. The group can switch servers and try #1 again, I guess. If you are in the coast, you can meet up within 15 minutes depending on respawn. 3. Given that we have only a few hours, we want to have some fun. We don't want to take 30-60 minutes getting into some fights. We also don't want to walk into ambushes like noobs, which if you are wandering around north is easy to do. If you go slow, that again, eats up all your time that you have to play together. 4. The fun from this game, at least for me, comes from getting in fights that are completely unpredictable. You don't know what the size of the other group is. You don't know how they are armed. If you are not a camper, you don't even know when you are going to meet them. And range for the encounter is also unpredictable. Some fights occurs across hundreds of meters. Others occur within 10 meters. It's also fun because, unlike wasteland, you have to work with what you can find. You don't meet people who are armed to the teeth in every encounter, nor are you armed to the teeth. Sometimes you meet three guys with hatchet rushing you. Sometimes you are the guy with a hatchet against an ak. I don't need to go north to find this fun nor do I need to kill bambis. The only really douche bandits are those camping with a sniper and shooting ppl who just spawn in near the water. If you are a bambi and you come into one of big southern cities, you gotta know you are taking some risks. As I said in other post, survival is easy. If you play vanilla, go on a low pop server, loot farm like the best of them, and then head north. If you avoid pvp, you can survive indefinitely. If you play like I do and you don't cheat, you will die alot but thats part of the fun.

    Re-Discovered First Person View

So its a moral choice to use 1st person? Please, am I talking to a priest? When did I end up in church? It's a freaking game. It's a feature of the game. The majority of players like this feature.
  18. Elitist nerd bs. You always need a constant flow of new players into games and servers otherwise it dies. A normal 50 ppl server probably has thousands of people cycling through to keep it full. If new players are not coming it, the server will die out. The game should be fun for everyone, not just survivalist fanboys. It so funny that the opinion above was the Arma 2 fanboys' opinion of dayz players when it first came out. So many of the Arma 2 fanboys were raging that dayz players were coming in and taking over their favorite game and the sooner these guys leave, the better for their beloved game. Now we got these dayz fanboys wanting to kick out everyone who is not a true believer. You fanboys should go back to last year and read what the arma 2 fanboys were saying about you. Then you can cut and paste their comments and post it here as your own!
  19. I don't know about anyone else but in dayz, I kill people when they give that funny look. I especially kill people who yell, "friendly." Ninety percent of the time, these are people who will shoot as soon as you turn your back on them.

    Re-Discovered First Person View

How is something an exploit if everyone can do it? Isn't that called a feature? Wtf? There is a reason why there are only a handful of 1st-person servers. I love how some people love to decide how the game should play for others. Sheesh.
  21. The problem with this is that, if instead if a hero showing up, if there is a bandit on the firehouse roof, you are all boned. Right now, if you a douche sniper on a high building in any of the main cities, 1.7.7 is a gift from the gods. Other than a hacker, people cannot take you out from a lower point (because they would aggo super zeds) and no matter how hard the zeds, they can't do anything to the sniper either.

    1.7.* Infection WIP Update

Actually, other than the knockdown being too high of a chance, the zombies seems easier than last patch -- because there seems to be less of them and they don't seem attracted to gunfight. They get attracted on LOS but not gunfire.

Use the church for your test. They can hit through walls. Stand next to the church wall and unload a clip.

    DayZ Mod 1.7.7 Patch

Had a chance to play this patch for a bit. This patch is a good direction for making the main cities a ghost town. It's also a gift for snipers, if they are camping anywhere high in any of the town, since shooting back at them will aggro zeds and their shooting doesn't get zeds on them. The knockdown probability is wacked, way too high.
  25. This patch does remind me alot of when I started playing. It was before 1.4 or something. That was when I didn't even know that I could just run pass zeds and was sneaking around everywhere. So, it does bring back memories. However, you can never return to the past, no matter how much you might want to. So, while the mod is returning to that "golden age" when everything seemed to be about survival, the players have moved on. I don't have time to spend 3-4 hrs playing every other day, especially when it involves playing with friends. So, trying to justify playing 3-5 hours so that you can gear up on basic stuff and .... do what? Go north and ... do what? Camp around like all the douche snipers, killing people who are less geared than you? Create a camp and ... do what? Sit around and stare at each other? Hoard vehicles like another category of douches? Or go back south with l33t gear and kill bambis, yet another category of douche? If you stay out of the big cities, if you limit your exposure to pvp, - just doing these two things, its so easy to survive indefinitely. But is it fun? Its boring as hell. I really don't understand how hoarding, camping, or hiding in the woods are fun activities. It was fun when I first started (because as a noob, you are scared of getting into pvp) but now, after nearly a year of playing this mod, it's not something that I can go back to. So you hoard 8 cars for weeks, so what? So you survived 3 months with one character, so what? So your l33t camp was not raided for 3 months, so what? At the end of the day, you end up doing nothing and not even have fun doing it. tldr; survival was always easy but its boring as hell.
