It's amusing to see these survivalist talking about how tough or easy the zombies are. Do they even go into any of the big cities? I mainly see bambis or other bandits. So I guess they need to make the zombies tougher, considering that they probably see only 3-4 each time. In any case, thanks for listening and making a quick update. Developers, I know that you guys want a hard-core survivalist mode but the mod exploded into popularity because it offer a deeper, more tactical pvp than exists with any game currently around. Compared to COD or CSS, the pvp involved so many more variables. Don't underestimate that "lightning in a bottle." It, and not the survival mode, made the mod unique and great. Since rainbow 6 and rogue spear, my friends and I have been looking for a deep, tactical pvp and this delivers in spades. It would be sad to see the great dayz mod with server ghost towns with only 5-25 ppl. If the survivalists win with their whining, that's where we are heading.

I don't recall all the details but it broke more things than it fixed, such as tents. It also introduce things that either didn't work or that made things worse (artifacts with wire). It also had superzombies, which everyone and their dead grandma hated and which rocket restored to old. In any case, 1.4.2 came out really fast. 1.4.3 fixed even more stuff. It wasn't a stable and decent build until 1.4.4 and now we are back again at another version of 1.4.1.

Derp derp. Survival wannabes derp derp. If this is a survival simulator, servers would be about 5 ppl each because you guys would be terrified of running into anyone. In fact, I bet all the survivor wannabes are playing on these low pop servers (unless they are in a farm clan). What do you think is happening in big servers with 40, 50 ppl?
-
This patch reminds me of 1.4.1, which defined clusterfuck for all those who did not know. We didn't quickly get to 1.4.4 because 1.4.1 was so great.

Feedback on new update. 1. This update is a dream for snipers, once they figure it out. Since it is impossible not to aggo zebs in cities, douche bambi snipers will have a field day just having to watch for zombies. Zombies were not the critical problems with the mod, it was bugs, douche bambi snipers and hackers. These were the things ruining the mod for people. 2. Abort timer is stupid. What is this suppose to achieve outside of the combat timer? Alt-f4 just so I can take a piss? 3. Zebs aggro is stupid, given that they are warping through walls all over the place. The update broke something and the warping through walls is the worse I have ever seen. I personally like the aggro zebs, so much easier to find something to kill. 4. As a bandit, all the changes to water, food, blood, etc. doesn't really apply to me. Bandits do not farm, they kill the people who do the farming. 5. On servers that have not changed the loot table, there is 3/4 trash in most spawns. Who the hell thinks that most people have time to play for 5-10 hours a session? What is the point of having to look for 1hr to find a gun or to go up north? It takes 20 minutes walking from Cherno to Electro, over thirty from Cherno to Starry. Are the community developers thinking that a normal play session for people is 4-5 hours? Where is the "fun" in walking, hunting, or looting (or basic stuff) for hours at a time? 6. I think if the server admins start to see their player population die because this mod has become boring as hell, they need to let these community developers know. Servers with 40 or above players are not full of survivalist wannabes. Its full of people looking for some pvp.

I appreciate the great work that modders are doing to support the community. The added maps are an example of why dayz is great. Now, from a bandit, thank you for removing the stupid changes. It would not have changed anything from our playstyle, other than have made the game more boring. I really don't understand alot of the comments. Its like people play this mod for 10 hours straight. My friend and I are bandits because we can only play every few days, 2-3 hours a session. So we don't have alot of time. It already takes forever meeting up when we spawn at different parts of the map. And also takes time to find a gun. After that, we usually have at most 2 hours to get into some good fights and then call it day. Since we have limited time, we don't ever hunt. We don't use matches, axes (unless to attack ppl). We don't use knives. We don't really even eat because we are usually dead before the hunger/drink icon goes red. We don't run away from gunfire, we run towards it. So the only thing that would have changed in our playstyle, had the patch gone through as it was originally intended, would have been that we would simply die a little faster rather than wait to get our health up. It would change nothing in terms of making us want to work with others. Cooperating is boring when you only have 2 hours to play. Changes that make our limited time playing fun are good. Changes that just make it bs and forces us to do more busy work are stupid. So, being able to give your buddy a blood bag right away is great - because often it can extends a firefight. We play on private hives only because it eliminates alot of crap, such as server hopping. So being able to spam food to get some health is great because the hospitals are usually hot zones and its not always easy to get blood there. Also, only the big cities have hospitals, so food is the only way to get health if you are somewhere else like starry. tldr; not only lone wolves, bandits would have also found stupid changes boring and killing their love for this mod. -
DayZ Redux - DayZ purist focused custom DayZ Mod (Formerly DayZ DIAF)
boatie replied to venthos's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Wow, Wonderful fixes and additions. Please show this to the dayz team so they have an example of how this mod should proceed. Sheesh. Regular dayz is a joke compared to what you are trying to do. -
Dude, its not "some" people duping. It's everyone because the tents are broken you tool! Barbwire causes artifacts for people since they were introduced. Server admin locks servers to get all cars and then hide them. This has been happening since day one. Everyone used ammo duping once it was discovered. These are not a "few" people. If there are anyone left still looting for stuff, those fools are probably loot farming, which is itself another exploit. Before the duping, there was the servers hoppers, guess why you never hear about that anymore? Because its pointless to do it when you can dupe tents. Sheesh. Just admit that some mechanics are utterly broken and move on.
-
I am starting to get the feeling that all these guys sucking rockets dick must be hackers (because why wouldnt they love things as is) or the douches who would sit for 3-4 hours in one place to snipe noobs. You never hear them get their panties all in twist with all the broken mechanics and hackers. Hmm...
-
Its not an as50. You got hacked. As if there are magical snipers that are always around every corner, please. If you are playing on a low pop server, why don't you just play single player? Stupid solution.
-
If a mechanic is broken, like the tents and their duping, it should be taken out. Also like barbwire and artifacting. The fact that Rocket and his gang are so clueless and not doing it is what has ruined this mod. If they are like this now, how the heck are they going to be different with the standalone. This policy of introducing mechanics that end up broken and then letting it just stay there and then saying stupid things like "its the engine, there is nothing we can do," well then take the damn thing out. Add to this the fixation on tweaking things that are irrelevant. Pathetic.

Should we remove barbed wire in the next update
boatie replied to mattlightfoot's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
It's a joke that this is even a question. -
Worse thing that can happen to a game is that it becomes boring and thats what dayz has become. Its boring to play with hackers, unless you want to become a douche yourself. Its boring to play with broken mechanics, because what is the point of looting/stealing/saving anything? Its boring to play on big servers, because within 30 minutes you will have a hacker show up. Its boring to play on small servers, because this is not a single player game. The sad part is that I don't see this getting any better any time soon. For myself, I will see you all when the standalone comes out. Given how many happy times I had, I will buy it for that alone, but Rocket and company had better improve their process, because they appear very unprofessional at this point. And to the mods who are attacking forum users, wtf is that about? Look to this thread for examples.

Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.
boatie replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I very much doubt that all the currently broken features will be fixed but the time of the standalone. That's why they should approach adding stuff very cautiously. The recent updates and their new features did a very effective job of killing this mod. 1.7.2.5 is not nearly as enjoyable a game as 1.7. Right now, you have to expect that you will get killed by hackers, dupers, hopers, etc. rather than have a good game session. -
Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.
boatie replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Suggestion: 1. Don't add too many new features. Complexity does not a better game make. Unless the addition adds a new dimension to the game, don't add it. More clutter will take away from the game. Each new feature should improve a significant core aspect of the game. 2. Broken current features should be fixed. Duping exists only because of broken save feature via tents and cars. It's not because people were trying to dupe. 3. Dont add elements that add lag to the game. Communication between hive and local server should be optimized not be the source of greater lag because there are more things going on. 4. 1 million players, 200k playing each day - across 1 map on 2-3k servers is saturation. Need to introduce more maps. There should be 4-6 maps, same size as the current one. A 2-3 map dlc is a must. This will spread out the player base so that you can actually set down roots. Right now, with oversaturation, it is very hard to create a decent size camp and expect it to be around for more than a few weeks, less you own the server and do douchy things to keep it hidden. 5. Need to introduce new, iconic maps. There are alot of US and EUR players, you guys need to invest some money and introduce an iconic map, such as Seattle or Paris, etc. Something that would create some wow factor in people because it represent a place they know about. 6. Modding should somehow be encouraged like skyrim. It would be great to have modders add in new clothing, weapons, etc. Right now the only new innovation being added into the game are those introduced by hackers, such as the dancing. Having only the developer being able to add innovation will kill interest in the mod because things get boring with out new content. 7. Bring on the beards! -
I would like to give some feedback for the 1.7.2.5 patch. I am using the beta 417 patch because the server I play on has only updated dayz and not the beta. 1st load of the game after update: Respawn at the coast. Walk north for a while then got offline. Horrible artifacts when near Bez, SW airport. 2nd load: Respawn at the coast. 3nd load through 10. Stuck on loading screen. 10th load: respawn at the coast. 11th load: respawn in debug forest with no items. 12th load: stuck on loading screen. So pointless to play this mess right now. The hive has become a joke. It's not local servers. Its the hive that is totally destroying this mod. Btw, I have had no problems playing on non-hive servers.

Duping: 3/4 of High Level Gear is Duplicated
boatie replied to dantoramandova's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Play on a non-hive server. Problem solved. I don't think anything can be done about the hacking, server hopping, alt-f4ers, and duping until the standalone. -
RE: Private Hives and 'The Rules' - (Update from Rocket inside)
boatie replied to Anton17's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Thanks for all the post guys and gals. I am going to give these private server a chance now. So many problems exists with the main hive that seem beyond Rocket or the dayz's current ability to solve. This sounds like a good temp solution until the stand alone comes out. Here is my summary of why private servers are a good alternative: 1. Server admin actually can do something about hackers. On the normal dayz server, they can do nothing and it seems that Rocket is also powerless to do anything. With greater admin control, easier to identify and ban hackers. If there is admin abuse, just pick another private server. 2. No server hopping. The solutions that rocket has talked about seem pathetic (monitor, warn and ban) will not solve anything. 3. No ghosting. Tactical play and teamwork will actually pay off now. You don't have guys magically appearing 100 meters behind you. Then the true fun of dayz will come back. 4. The dayz hive, because of the crazy popularity of dayz, is a quivering mess. Duping, desync, lag, alot of these issues are related to a main hive that is overwhelmed. In fact, Rocket needs to at least consider creating regional main hives, such as 1 for North America, 1 for Europe, etc. Currently its a mess. 5. Reduce metagaming, such as hoarding all cars. People can work together to get at the hoarders and have fun experiencing all facets of the game. 6. Private servers allows for variance to local settings, so you can pick and use servers that have options you like, such as side chat, alt-f4 banning. -
Same happened to me. You are missing a tire.

Tent Disappearance Epidemic
boatie replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sounds like a beta patch update decided to wipe your tents. Recent updates have broken previously fixed bugs. Other issue is that moving tents between servers is bugged (and never put tents in your main inventory either).
