    What game am I playing?

Well, it sounds like those wanting the "good old days of dayz" are getting your wish. But for those of us who don't have the time to be playing 5hr sessions, vanilla dayz is mainly a waste of time.
  2. We are talking about different things. I haven't played on a public hive in like 6 months.
  3. Sorry, didn't realize I was talking to god. Since you are right, everyone must be wrong. We each have your opinion and the only one that matters is the watching the poplutions of the 50-60 servers, if these go down, then that means the patch is not being well received.
  4. Bingo! The people who are loving the patch and hankering after that illusory "golden age of dayz" where everything was pve are not playing on big servers. They are playing on servers with maybe 20 ppl tops. They are entering small towns and looting areas that others have not been at (because its a small server and there are few ppl). So, of course the patch rocks! Try playing in the main cities with hundreds of zombies roaming the cities and then saying that, lol. Trying finding anything when the server has 50 ppl. Hackers rejoice, now there is nothing a non-cheater can really do to you. You don't need wallhacks, aimbot, just give yourself 1 gun and you are tops. edit: the patch doesn't really matter. I don't see alot of the private hive servers switching over to this and losing their player base. At least 1.7.6.1 was finally stable. These community developers don't really seem to understand that unless you are 14 yrs old and its summer, you can't be having 5hr play sessions 3-4 times a week. Alot of us have maybe 2 hours, 2 times a week because of work, family, etc. We want to get in and have some fun before our times runs out. Spending that two hours "surviving" on a empty server is stupid.
  5. What I have notice in past few months. I only play on private hives. 1. Significant less hackers. Many reasons for this, but I think the biggest one is there are better admins on private hives. They act right away and they listen to the players on the server. 2. Lots of 50+ servers showing up. This is a good development. 3. Zombies are a little more broken than when you left. Zombies love to clip through walls with latest patch. 4. Server hopping is a thing of the past on private hives. And this is one of the biggest advantage of a private hive over a public one. I don't look forward to server hopping when the standalone comes out. 5. Combat logging is still around and the anti-combat logging measure suck. You can't leave the game if you are standing next to your buddy. You haven't fire your weapon or been fired upon for 10 minutes but you have to wait 30 seconds to log out. The server resets and you can't abort because of the combat logging bs. It's stupid. In any case, the only people who combat log are douche snipers who you are shotting at. Those douches don't know how to fight. Snipers camping in full gear shooting fresh spawn is a lot less in private hives because it is much harder to dupe items. Those noobs are too scared to lose their gear. 6. Overall, the dayz experience has improved alot compared to about 6 months ago.
  6. Ignore the trolls. You shoot people and they die, you are a bandit. You will know you are a real bandit when you shoot someone and they are yelling "Friendly!" And then they die, lol.

    Skilled Vs Unskilled bandits

What is the difference between a bandit sniper and a script kiddie? Not a hell of a lot. I would guess that at least 1/3-1/2 of the bandit snipers playing right now are script kiddies using esp. The sniper "stalking" someone is so rare, he's a myth. Unless by stalking, you mean that he was sitting waiting for you to come to the area he was overwatching and then following you. This observation does not take into account pvp servers, who are an entirely different animal.

    DayZ Mod 1.7.6.1 Hotfix

There were no people in the cities with 1.7.5.1 because the zombie spawn was nuts. You want want to go back to that? You must be playing survivor simulator. Also, fire some guns off in a cities, zombies will fill up plenty. If zombies are easy, its because they don't get that auto first hit in anymore. When there are lots of zombies around, I notice they are still glitching through everything.
  9. Bandit is just a label, not a definition. In dayz, it simply means a person who prefers pvp over walking simulator. KOS is simply the reality of plentiful guns that are fairly accurate at short/medium range (up to 300m). You can't talk to people 300m away, even if you both see each other. Coming closer increasesthe risk and tension for both parties, and at the same time reduces what little chance there would be of a standoff. You can have a standoff at 300m but its much harder to do so at 30m. Most of the city fighting I see are at 30m or less. Btw, a bandit does not shoot you for your beans. He shoots just because he has a gun and you are there.

    DayZ Mod 1.7.6.1 Hotfix

There does not seem to be much negativity with this latest patch. There was some crying about beans and cans but that wasn't anything serious. I was just playing on a 1.7.4.4 server, zombies in 1.7.6.1 are easier. Hmmm.

    DayZ Mod 1.7.6.1 Hotfix

I had the same problem. If you are using steam, what I had to do was verify the file intergity of both Arma 2 and Arma:OA. Second, I closed steam and then re-opened it. Third, I started Arma:OA through steam and then exit out. Only then could I finally start a game using Dayz Commander.

    DayZ Mod 1.7.6.1 Hotfix

Bug report. Was in cherno having a shoot out. Two of us killed four guys over the course of ten minutes near the church. All guys fired off their guns. The last guy we killed was near the pub ne of the church. About 30 seconds after he died, just as my buddy was coming up to loot him, there instant spawn what looked like 50-100 zombies on his body. Not sure if it was a hacker or a bug. It was nuts.

Fed up of fighting in Cherno and Elecktro

Lol. Wasteland with its 2 servers. I like dayz because you never know what people might have going into a fight. Sometimes its pistol v. pistol, ak v. pistol, dmr v. winchester, etc. The guys with the bigger guns don't often win because most are farmers and don't know how to fight. The reason why its hard to find pvp north is that its a damn long walk up there. Those guys up there are laying around with their snipers because they don't want to lose their farmed stuff. If you play with a team and you die, its a long walk getting back into the fight up north to help them. That's why there is so much more pvp in the southern cities, just quicker to get back into a fight.

    DayZ Mod 1.7.6 Update

Feedback for 1.7.6 1. Zombies will follow you for a long time. Good. 2. Zombies can see you through walls but cannot hit you like before. Very good. 3. Zombies numbers did appear to be less in cities, until you start shooting, and then there were plenty. 4. Zombies in woods. Great. In fact, it should be coded so that if there is gunfire, there would be more zombies spawning. This would give the bambi snipers a nice surprise. 5. Zombies no longer being able to have an automatic hit. This is great because you can now actually dodge zombies, but now zombies are too easy. You should consider upping the damage zombies do with a hit from 200 to 600. 6. Cities are populated with people again, which is great for us bandits. Thank you developers. 7. Zombie sight feels much better. I think zombie sound sensitivity should be set a little higher, so that firing a weapon will definitely attract all zombies within 120m into that general area. Another suggestion: each new gun adding fire spawns X number of zombies in that general area. These zombies will be attracted to the most recent fire. This patch is great. You will notice the loud silence, which affirms that the patch is good. The deal about the food is a distraction.

    DayZ Mod 1.7.6 Update

Thanks for the new patch. Hopefully, it is better than 1.7.5.1, which was a mess. I haven't had a chance to try the new patch but reading the comments has been damn funny. Poor developers, its always something. In 1.7.5.1, the main cities were becoming deserted. If you meet 4-5 people, in say Electro, when there were 40-50 on the server, you were lucky. It was also almost impossible to loot fresh kills because of the swarming of zombies. Now hopefully, the southern cities will have some life in them. For those complaining that the zombies are now being nerfed, it was pretty obvious that having more zombies spawning was making them even buggier. They were warping and glitching through everything. They were one-shot killing people if they hit you from behind. So, until the warping and glitching were fixed, adding more zombies would be a dumb way to go.

is dayz 100% PvP on the long term?

Since the 1.7.5.1 patch, i am seeing alot less people in the main southern cities. This sucks because, as a bandit, i am too lazy to go north.
  17. Lol. The only new challenge is that it's tough to loot people you kill when pvping in the main cities. Zombies are only a threat because they make it easier for others to locate you.

    DayZ 1.7.5.1 Bug List

Bug. Was on a server. Server was resetting. I get the red message, "cannot connect..." I go to abort and I get the logout timer, even though there is no longer a server to connect to.

    DayZ Mod 1.7.5.1 Update

1.7.5.2 aims to fix more that AI behavior. There was also issue with logout timer, missing tents, no heli crash sites, etc. However, you are the MAN doing the work, you rock! I criticize the patch but never man doing the work behind the patch. Don't let the bs get you down. This was nothing compared to the outcry when 1.7.4 came out. That was a major clusterfuck. My posts have been directed at getting the community mod developers, like yourself, to have a vision of where dayz, the mod, should be heading. I think your vision has to work towards support the bigger servers. The more the bigger servers feel supported, and the players on it are having fun, the healthier the dayz community will be. Where the fortunes of those big servers go, so too goes the fruit and appreciation for all your work in the end. Because, at the end of the day, it's that why you mod? Because tens of thousands of people are enjoying your work?

    DayZ Mod 1.7.5.1 Update

Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. Thanks! If you guys think that making a game that is geared for servers with about 5-25 ppl is a sign of great success, then good luck. That's what all these "dayz is a mountain man survival simulator guys" are talking about. Even chernaus at 15x15 with 50-60 ppl is overcrowded. You can not go almost anywhere without running into people. If there are people interacting, there is chance for pvp. Yet, the mountain simulator ppl think that you can be on a your own with 50-60 ppl around, forget it - unless you are hiding on the extremes of the map and/or never go into any cities. Most of people playing this as a survival simulator are playing on low pop servers because if they are consistently playing on 40 pop servers or above, there is almost no way they can get a character to live past 30 days. The hackers, bugs, and bandits will kill you for sure. As a bandit who plays only on high pop servers, I am feeling pretty lucky if I live past two play sessions. Because of the success of dayz as a mod, Rocket has a chance of living a dream - the modder becoming a game developer. If his vision did not "click" with people and they liked it, he would not be living a dream. But he has to recognize and build on what the vast majority of people liked about the game. If he doesn't, his game the "standalone" will not be as successful as his mod. At its peak, dayz had 200k players playing at once. That's the standard that the standalone should aim at. Anything less, then his "game" is not as great as his mod. Who thinks thats Mountain Man Simulator can reach 200k players at once? Building a game that is geared for servers with between 5-25 people is not, imho, a vision for success. And in fact, in the developer blog post, Rocket's test servers had a top pop of 150 ppl using a tweaked Chernaus map. There is currently rampant pvp on servers with just 40-50 ppl right now. How do you think 150 ppl playing on this same map will be, no matter how hard you make the simulation? Will it be Mountain Man simulator? Or will it be PvP heaven? I am thinking of the latter. But the pvp has to be fun, for both beginner and expert. It has to be fun for douche bambi snipers, bandits, and heroes. That's where I think the community mod developers are failing badly. None of the recent changes have made the game fundamentally more fun (more challenging/difficulty does not, by itself, equal more fun) for a wide range of people, playing dayz for different reasons and with different playstyles. Also, patches have to follow the golden rule: never introduce more bugs than that which currently exists or don't introduce your changes at all. This latest patch failed badly on meeting the golden rule.

    DayZ Mod 1.7.5.1 Update

Lmao. If rocket ignores why a game is successful and goes after an idiotic vision, he will be out of a job. Bohemia did not hire him to sit around jacking off. You get paid on the success of your game, not on having a "great" vision that no one cares about. If you think you are right, go try to get a job with a great vision? It won't be easy. And if you are lucky and stumble onto something that people like and then ignore it, for sure, you do not deserve any future success. The above has to be the dumbest post I have seen on these forums and thats saying alot.
  22. Been seeing more script kiddies on non-hive servers as well.

    DayZ Mod 1.7.5.1 Update

I tried the regular arma 2, hated with a passion. Thought it was boring. PvE, please. Arma II did not explore on the scene. Dayz did. It's was not the survival mode that did it. Just notice: where have all the huge servers gone? There is only a few left. Before there were hundreds of 50/50 hive servers. If the big servers die, then this fan base will decline rapidly so that only the hardcore fanboys are left. Doesn't that already describe Arma II? There are only these hard-core fanboys playing Arma II. Compare that to CSS, COD, and of course, dayz from 3 months ago. If all you want are a small group of hard-core players - the I play for 5 hours a session - then focus on making things harder for the bambis. They won't have fun and they won't come back.
