I think you have the wrong game mate

Never have I experienced this before. Just happened on NZ17 hosted by ON3 network Initially, running through the forest east of NW Airfield at 3:45pm(Australian EST) this afternoon, I stop and there's a guy in khakis standing behind me, shot him 3 or 4 times and then he shot me once and I died. Thought this was just another one of those days for me. Literally a couple of minutes ago the entire playerbase on the server were teleported to a forest covered in bear traps and 3 or 4 players shooting anyone with loot on them, then eventually killing everyone. Unfortunately I have no screens. Lost all my stuff.. so yeah. I sure love alpha.

LF Aus/NZ Group to play with

Tip for you: You might want to spend a while playing around by yourself before jumping in with a squad of guys you don't know. Yes, teamwork is awesome in this game but I saw it as best to learn the game myself before working with others. Foremost, you need to rely on yourself and not others when it comes down to it. It's also best not to be seen as the newbie guy who has no idea what he's doing but rather someone who can benefit others. This is substantially different from other FPS games and without prior knowledge of ARMA itself, small things can slip under the radar that you'll eventually learn. You're in luck with being from Aus/NZ though. I've found people are a lot less likely to camp inland towns and airfields so don't worry too much about being by yourself. Good luck out there :) -
The rebuttal to this is that many playing who have a bad internet connection are disconnected and such from servers are then exposed for 10 seconds for doing nothing wrong except having a bad internet connection or shoddy computer. If you're disconnected from a server because of this (among other things such as high ping, wrong version etc.), this penalty should not occur. However, I still believe a better work around should be discovered. You shouldn't have to punish innocent players to stop others who exploit the problem.

Seeing as I've gone over my monthly internet cap I currently have a 20kb/s internet connection. Great fun I know! Even I can get into Aus/NZ servers. Yes, it takes time and in my experience this has happened with every PC multiplayer game I have ever come across. I remember when playing Battlefield 2 trying to get into a Gamearena server was a nightmare, but I did eventually. Same thing happened with Project Reality simply due to the lack of servers. Although I disagree with the manner in which Toilet has stated his opinion, it really is a matter of not whining, using the in-game server browser and you'll find yourself in a game in no time. It'd be great to have more servers and to be able to hang around on one server instead of switching almost every time I play but that's life. This is a game and I can move on.

Niemands "Cleaning a Village aka Settling down"
Galatica replied to Niemand (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Having a town owned by players without the threat of zombies would probably have to come hand-in-hand with higher player counts on servers, imo. Playing this mod almost like an mmo rather than an FPS would be pretty crazily amazing and as AtomicLlama stated, it could be the natural flow for this game to play out. This all ties in with people spending full-time on this game though.. Not to bog your idea down completely, but realistically people do have other things in their lives to consider and that could dampen any element of permanent members of a community. As an Australian and really only being able to bounce around the east coast American servers, Australia's servers and New Zealand's, the "server-hopping" is completely unintentional. I'm yet to establish a single server I can play on and really just jump into one that has a free spot. Implementations of new building mechanics would really improve this mod though and really make it feel as our own, something we as a community can change, rather than staying the same as it always is. Hopefully this sortve thing gets implemented eventually in-game :) -
People are playing this game alone to start off with. Regardless of how realistic this is meant to be, its only a game and so based just off that people act in extremely different ways. I've played this game for little under a week and already I have learnt that without friends, people I personally know playing the game, I can trust no one. That in itself is realism. If I was alone in a zombie-filled world, I wouldn't trust people I knew for a mere 20 minutes. I've got gear they want and need, to continue on their life, and vice versa for me. Even if you continue to pile on the penalties, there will always be banditry in this game. You need to adapt to that and learn to trust only those you know you can trust. It sounds like someone has been watching too many movies or heard too many stories about people in extreme situations killing another human being. Not everyone has the same reaction to it. You seem to be complaining rather than actually stating your suggestion to improve this mod. Yes, there need to be many improvements made to this modification. You do mention penalties, but what exactly does that entail?
