Props! - 2 players at NWAF didn't DC!
Colditz replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Faith in humanity restored, hope you find those people and have a blast together, it's a game after all and I'm sure you'd have a laugh looking back at it. -
Hacking in DayZ does feel quite common, I died to a Hacker in Chernogorsk yesterday, I was out to loot the Hospitals for Supplies for my Group, I caught a glimpse of a Player on a Catwalk near the northern industrial area of Chernogorsk, I take precise aiming with my DMR, I guess he must be 3-400 Meters out, I take the shot, I hit him in the Head, he starts looking around, I decide to hide in the factory, a little while later, I fire a few more shots, all of which hit him, he starts firing back and I run into cover, I exit the building as the place starts getting uncomfortable and I was scared shitless because he didn't die. Just when I stepped out of the factory he was right infront of me, point blank, I managed to fire a few more rounds, most of which seemed to have hit him in the chest area, no effect at all, he kills me instantly with his M4. Some weeks ago I too found a hacker but luckily he didn't see me, there was an M1A2 Abrams "TUSK" driving out of Stary Sobor towards Kabanino in the north-west, I hid in the bushes when I heard the tracks from afar, seconds later the steel beast rolled by my head. I figured it was time to disconnect and find another server. Next Server, the first thing I hear is Gunshots, they're far away, I can see tracers coming from the Sky, it's complete darkness, all of a sudden a Light turns on in the Sky, an AH-64 is picking of people with FLIR in the night. For now, best bet to avoid hackers is Abort out of the game as soon as you smell it's fishy.

Why does this game get worse with every patch?
Colditz replied to woofed's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I am experiencing similiar problems, sometimes when I login I either die instantly and respawn with nothing in debug plains just to get killed by a sniper there or just drop unconscious for 5 whole minutes when I login, furthermore barbed Wire/Tank Traps need to be looked at again, they produce graphical artifacts from certain angles and are used JUST to grief, I have yet to see them being used as a Fortification of some sort. On top of that, deathmatch is really getting out of hand, so is the spawncamping near the coast. Vehicles on servers are almost never there because a Group/Clan takes "all" of them to hide them safely away. Zombies still lag hardcore on almost every server I play on and sometimes hit you or even worse, K.O. seconds after their death still. The Entrance of the ATC tower is still extremely ficklish to get in (sometimes a broken bone seems to be a must, the rubble ist just too big for the entrance). Now, a lot of these things are done by the Community but I'd still like to see some progress towards getting the zombies right and the "fortifications" looked after, because travelling 10km just to find completely barricaded barracks with no player on the server is a total rage inducer. Still a great game imho, just stay the hell away from other survivors if you're in love with your beans. -
As for your internet connection, like you said, not much you can do there. There are however a few other tricks that you can do to make arma play and feel smoother. First of all, get rid of Mouse Smoothing, I have no idea why but that crap seems to eat up at least 2-3 fps on my side, and without it the game feels so much smoother. mouse smoothing can be found in the ingame options > controls > right side > slide the slider to the left then in arma2oa.cfg change this line GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1000; or any other value if you altered it already to value GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1; The cfg can be found in %userprofile%\Documents\ARMA 2\arma2.cfg There should also be an entry called "MouseSmoothing" which is probably set to 30, set that to 1. I'm not at home right now so I sadly can't check the cfg myself. This Thread might also prove helpful for you http://forum.c-rpg.net/index.php?topic=32321.0 Good Luck!

Bandaging a Survivor that is unconscious is POSSIBLE, he needs to look at you, and use the Mouse Wheel to select "bandage wounds" on you. He shouldn't use the Epi-Pen as you might fall unconscious again due to your low blood amount. If you get back up, eat meat (replenishes 800 blod) or better yet, get a blood transfusion.

Difference between Pellets and Slugs?
Colditz replied to Lopz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The difference between Pellets and Slugs is, Pellet Ammo will fire a shot that contains multiple pellets that spread, small metal pins if you wanna call them that, great for close range as they spread and have lots of stopping power and CAN take out more targets if they're close to each other. Slug rounds fire a single steady bullet (better accuracy) that will travel a longer range. Decide for yourself which is better, if your aim is anywhere near decent with a shotgun/rifle then I'd say go for Slug rounds, the extra accuracy on longer ranges is a must in the open. -
today I kind of had a good guy greg moment, I was with a friend of mine, we found a helo crash site and spotted a player looting it, instead of popping a bullet in his head with my sniper rifle I decided to shoot close to him to scare him off, after he ran away we slowly approached the Huey Wreck too loot it and then bailed the area. I usually don't kill when I feel threatened but that depends. If a survivor for instance enters the room I'm in without me knowing, so to speak, he's surprising me, I'll most likely open fire instantly if he has his weapon drawn. Cooperative teamplayers are hard to find, just yesterday I found a sniper in cherno with broken legs, I offered him to get Morphine from the Hospital and did, he rewarded me with some canned food and an epi-pen. Faith in humanity restored. Not everyone's a dickhead, but that's almost only the case if they NEED someone else to do smth. for them.

My advice ? Stay the hell away from Stary Sobor, that place is by far 200% more dangerous than the NW airfield can ever be. Sure, it's an amazing loot spot but there are many players as well, most of which are sitting outside of town with snipers drawn, waiting for prey. If you need equip, go for some barn runs and deer stands, if you feel up for it, go to the airfield and check a few hangars, bail if sh*t hits the fan. Stary is however a good place if you're at least 4 people and have each of them check the surroundings first and have 1-2 giving overwatch while you go in to loot. If you're from Europe you could probably join my group, we're 3-4 people most of the time and we're running with military grade equipment.

If you look closely in the briefing screen you'll see 100 entries for player slots, in the standard ArmA game these are used to assign players to Squads/Teams.(DayZ just uses standard player slots without any grouping between them). Sometimes when you login to the game you might see green messages at the bottom left like "1: 68, Return to Formation!" (Squad/Platoon Leader telling Soldier 68 to rtf). I believe that due to a weird glitch some players might be assigned to a Squad with some other player/s and since Respawning is activated on the servers the friendly fire killed people will just respawn after a short interval. Would be nice to hear from the developer regarding this, haven't had this happen so far (thankfully!).

I played for 8 hours straight today with 3 friends and even the days before that I haven't found a single helo crash site yet. Maybe I'm just unlucky.

If I am not mistaken some of the guns in the Game, for example the L85A2 is from the British Armed Forces DLC, meaning that owning the BAF DLC will result in higher textures and better sounds for said weapon, I'm not sure HOW much content will be improved though, I just re-installed my PMC today cuz I couldn't stand looking at my blurry pixelated survivor :P

I doubt it'll be a bannable offense, to put it like this, it's a utility that came with ArmA 2. But then again you never know these days, would be lovely to get some official announcement from the developer or a moderator though.

It's Impossible to See at Night! - Other threads will be locked/deleted!
Colditz replied to daish's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Here come the "But it's Alpha/Beta" posts and such, I agree with what OP said in his first post, in some way, I like my nights dark, but I don't like them pitchblack, it's not realistic to be so dark outside that you can't see your hand infront of your eyes, usually the moon provides enough light to at least see a few metres and make out some shapes, but right now it's just an entire black screen at night, flares seem "ok" but only provide around 2m of a light cone, flashlight's are... well, while being helpful to see you're literally shouting "Hey bandits, here I am!". Not every player gets to enjoy NVGoggles after his/her first raid on the Airfield or HELO Crash Site. I liked the original ArmA2 nights more. For now I just switch to different servers with different time zones to at least enjoy some light.
