Opinions on Zombie Hearing and Aggro in 1.7.2.4
Colditz replied to HollowDizzi's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Visibility ? I think it's alright as it is, they can see me from a couple hundred meters in broad daylight on a field or in the city, seems plausible enough, they see pretty bad at dawn/night, plausible enough too. Hearing ? This might just be me but I think that most of the infected are deaf, a few hours ago I fired my m1911 in Cherno, I attracted only 2 zombies out of a total of ~20 around me. How can a zombie, probably just 70 meters our or so not hear me firing a .45 ? Same with my M249, I can pretty much run around Cherno firing that beast without pulling too much aggro. -
What I learned from Dayz
Colditz replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The Problem here is the Game the Mod is running on. Dean "rocket" Hall has pretty much nothing on his hands to fight the hackers, he can just hope that players keep on reporting and that Battle-Eye does its job. This has NOTHING to do with it being an Alpha, it's a MOD that runs on a game with SHITTY and DATED Anti-Cheat software that has yet to prove itself. The Cheat-Protection is not in the Mod, it's in the game. -
What I learned from Dayz
Colditz replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Honestly ? I think you're on the lucky end. I have once been teleported into the town square of cherno with ALL other players, all of us got turned into goats, the hacker then proceeded to come down and take us all out with a clean revolver shot to the head... I now know how animals in a slaughterhouse feel... The cheating in DayZ is quite immense, that is sadly due to the fame and attention the mod gathered upon its release. Before that hacking was pretty much "not there", ArmA 2 is a mil-sim and only hardcore mil-sim fans will play/enjoy it so the playerbase is small and hackers don't have a big audience. But now with DayZ and 24/7 full servers in a sandbox environment I can see how fun it can be for hackers to turn people into goats, make them dance or do pushups. Battle-Eye is doing a decent job though I think, it catches a lot of hackers, sadly only the script kiddies and other "small fish". Too bad detection and actual banning takes so long. For your pure amusement (and that of others) I can highly reccomend these 2 videos, they're short and pretty much show you the possibilities for hackers in the DayZ mod for ArmA 2. -
Crazy Graphics Glitch [PLEASE FIX :( ]
Colditz replied to mythTECH (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/22947010/DAYZ/2012-07-28_00006.jpg Same problem here, since 1.7.2.4, I'm not sure if it's the DayZ update that brought this or a recent ArmA 2 beta patch. Playing around with the V-Sync and Anti-Aliasing options seem to work sometimes for me, but only for a short amount of time. Holding " Shift + [NUM] - " an typing "flush" will clear your memory, this can in some cases decrease the load the game puts on your computer and in most cases got rid of the artifacts for me. -
You know it's true, I'm sorry for your experience with DayZ lately. Problem is, they way I see it Dean Hall doesn't give a shit about the deathmatching going on, he thinks it's realistic and even goes as far as to insulting people that think otherwise. *clapclap* I remember back when DayZ was "fresh" that people used to help out each other, I even made a few friends that I still play with from time to time, but for now... I hold my guns tightly to my body and I usually kill people I think are a danger to me/my group. But I'm not a dick that kills freshly spawned players with nothing but a damn hatchet, I get absolutely nothing from killing them either... just the remorse of killing a helpless individual that is going to get pissed at the community even more and turn into a bloodlusty chernarussian serial-killer like all the others. TL;DR

In terms of raw firepower, AS50, hands down. In terms of "user-friendly'ness" and practical use, SVD Camo, also my sniper rifle of choice, I'd ditch an AS50 for an SVD any day, every day.
-
I reccomend the tool "DayZ Commander", it can automatically update your DayZ and ArmA2 beta version (it doesn't do it automatically, only if you press "update" so you're safe if you don't want to update immediately), you can type in player names in a friends tab and it'll show you the servers they're playing on. It shows recent servers you've connected to/played on and you can favourite servers in there. You can also filter servers by their beta version/ dayz version, passwords, ping and so on. And if you fancy using the Steam Overlay you can just add the .exe of dayzcommander to the games tab and launch it through steam.

VIDEO "SNIPER TACKLE" (how to engage snipers with balls)
Colditz replied to WhiteFlash's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
Really nice video, feel sorry for your friend. Those 2 shooters were, sorry for the language, cunts. Disconnecting in a firefight is the most offending thing one could do in DayZ in my oppinion. Great thumbs-up for you for "manning-up" and bringing the fight to them. Not a lot of people would've done that, let alone stay as calm as you were. -
One of the few times where even a calm guy like me would totally lose his temper... happens every so often on servers. I had a few unfortunate server restarts/ 24h d/cs upon finding crash-sites too.

When the Woman approached the camera I burst out in laughter, rarely before have I seen such bad character animations in a game, but then again it's ArmA, you have to live with it. Nice vid.

Soda does not replenish blood, might be a mistake on your end there, probably mixing it up. Canned food restores 200, cooked meat restores 800.

Confess your sins here - The worst thing you've d
Colditz replied to Maedis's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Worst thing we've ever done ? Me and my group decided it was over with "Mr.nice", we grabbed 2 buses, all the guns and ammo we could carry and we proceeded to drive our "bangbuses" right into Chernogorsk on a full server. Needless to say we found a LOT of people, some of my group started yelling "Food, 2 o'clock, 50 metres in the Industrial", we disembarked, M249 tight in my arms. We racked up around 40 kills in around an hour or so and then decided to head back, we sustained minor injuries. Most of the people we killed were more or less fresh off the coast, some people were totally defenseless having just Makarovs or Hatchets, however, a few tried to fight back, to no use, we pretty much smoked 'em out with our group. I felt no regrets. #heartbeatsonallofus -
You can find Satchel Charges (called "pipebomb" in the game code) in Barracks, so far there's only one place where they can spawn, and that's the two Barracks on the North-West Airfield, keep in mind that they have an incredibly low drop rate though. They're drop chance is 0.11%, with that they're just as rare as Rangefinders and NightVision-Gogles. Good luck in your search.

I met the most kind guy in DayZ so far. In cherno.
Colditz replied to unit82's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
While you've done something incredibly horrible and something most other people on this forum will most likely hate you for I can tell you, there's worse, a lot worse, difference is, you're telling. I don't mind, people get killed up and down in DayZ like there's no tommorow, doesn't matter if it's as cruel as you did it or not. Only shame here is that your action might lead that player to not trust people anymore and turn him into what many other people have become, mindless killing machines hellbent on killing every other Survivor out there. -
All depends where you're from mate. You should put your location in the first post, that'll make it easier for people to see if you live close by. I'm from Europe and seeing most of the community is living in the U.S. I take it you might too. If you're from Europe however and speak fluent english then just drop me a note.

Military compound with hostile NPC; solution to lack of end game
Colditz replied to Dogsdogsdogs's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I like this Idea, something like this has been proposed quite a couple of times but an official statement has yet to be given on these things, I'm all for NPC-contested areas, heck, even convoys (like 1 per server). Just SOMETHING in the game world that makes it more interesting/dangerous/thrilling. I've pretty much arrived in endgame and don't know what to do, even crashsites can't offer me anything anymore, a base with npc's however would gather my attention and it'd be a lot of fun for me and my group to try and clear/hold it. -
Thank you so much, probably the only thing in the entire DayZ forum that made me laugh so hard that I actually spat my drink out. But now, back to topic. I agree with you and jimykx, there are major issues with the game, I dislike how many people "sweetmouth" the Mod and talk in high praises of rocket, sure, he brings a pretty unique Mod out on the field, but all that sweetmouthing seems to be hiding the major problems that DayZ still has. 1) Zombies got the moves like jagger, the run in all kinds of directions, VERY FAST and most of the time their animations start lagging when they change direction or start hitting players, when I'm playing with a group and a zombie gets aggro'd we usually shoot him alltogether, but if he's too close, the only one allowed to fire is the guy being attacked while everyone else just goes prone, hitting the zombie in his twitchy attack animation makes it easy to miss him and kill your mate. 2) Nights, way too dark, only way to "make out stuff" in the dark is to set HDR to "High" and move Brightness and Gamma to Max., it should be slightly brighter, Night servers are almost ALWAYS empty, only people on there are usually those with NVG's, and they're having a nice time looting EVERYTHING without hindrance. 3) New Players, they're fucked, they get thrown into a world of hateful players that are hellbent on killing every other Player they come across, leave alone the buggy zombies and the horrible loot spawns. Last time I died I checked Elektrozavodsk (even the Market), then moved to Pusta and on to Mogilevka, in that time I found ONE Can of Soda and NO FOOD.... but a shitload of weapons, by the time I left Elektro I already had a AKM with 4 mags, Alice Pack and some nice tools (map, watch, etc.) but found no food. My suggestion: Make ALL weapon spawns more rare. Increase spawn of food cans in Residential by a tiny bit. Give new players that start on the Coast some means to defend themselves, a Crowbar would be fine imho, right now they're food for everything they come across, most of them don't even know how the zombies work yet and what they should do if shit hits the fan, this issue really lowers the population of new players. Last but not least) PVP. Why are people doing it ? Because pretty much everything else in DayZ apart from killing/hunting other Players is plain boring. Reasons I believe to be for this: Helicopters got removed, for valid reasons, yeah, but they were a lot of fun for people. Pretty much ALL vehicles on the Servers are taken by the Server Owners or Clan Members Tents, Vehicles are STILL really buggy and sometimes their gear vanishes or just doesn't save The Mod's difficulty is way too low, there need to be Zombies in Fields, Hills and Forests, more varied zombies too, the game in general should be harder. Like said before, I understand that Chernarus is a eastern country, but you wouldn't even find that many guns in the whole of the U.S., there's guns and ammo EVERYWHERE. Killing People has no negative effects, a slightly higher amount of zombies and a better hearing range for them in terms of gunshots would make Shootouts less likely. What does this have to do with PvPing ? Easy, most of the fun aspects of the mod are either still buggy, or got taken out because they were buggy and are being worked on. The only feature that's fun for people which more or less works as intented is... you guessed it... PvP. EDIT: You also break your bones way too often, it's annoying. I alone broke my bones more often in DayZ than the entire population of the World has in probably two decades. Open a door, door hits you, start bleeding like a stabbed pig all over the place, drop unconscious for 5 minutes, shock and leg broken > Die. Killed by Door in a Zombie Apocalypse. Thank you for this thread, I know there's probably many like this, but if there were none, than there'd be no one to hear our prayers and fears for the future of DayZ. A friend of mine was filling up a gascan at a Station, I took a jerry can too to refill it, I come around the corner and we run into each other, it looked as if our heads bashed into each other, we both dropped unconscious, of course with broken legs and bleeding. We both died. Most of the time you can also just break your bones by being punched by a zombie (happens too often in my oppionion) or by running over uneven terrain.

What has happened to this community?
Colditz replied to mordrag's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah, the community went down to shits, it's sad really. I reccomend playing with friends only as most ALL survivors will shoot you on sight, I used to take risks and approach people but I've learned my place in this game now. The problem is that all the mindless killing turns even more players into bloodhungry monsters, players in DayZ are more out for killing than the zombies could ever be. I now keep my M249 close with a M24 in my backpack, I don't take chances, I fire on everything that runs, so does my group. -
I think Tents are alright, it's just players placing them in stupidly obvious positions. When I run along the Northern edge of the map I can usually find 2-3 Tents on EVERY server. But the worst problem imho is Barbed Wire and Tank Traps, I'm furious about that shit, people use it ONLY to troll/annoy people and barricade High-Value targets like Barracks... wouldn't be too bad if removing them didn't require pixel-precise aiming with a toolbox.

DE #01 and GB #00 [rec] My Group had two camps in "112 019", slightly NW of the NE-Airstrip. Tents should still be there with Weapons, Ammo, Meds and food, maybe some UAZ's and Busses. We have moved on to another server since the first one got passworded and the second one had an abusive admin and we didn't want to take any chances and just abandoned our camp. Have fun.

I dislike the idea of being one-hit K.O.'d by a Zombie, but I do support the idea of adding more diverse zombies to DayZ. Right now all we have is farmers and some businessmen, and most of the time they all look the same. +1 for Armoured Zombies and more Zombie Skins

Amazing post, while being long to read it's definately worth it! I especially like the Idea of World Events, I have thought about these as well and think they would add a lot to DayZ, Military Convoy's or Small AWOL Soldier Squads. Those would not only pose a risk to players but also a way for players to fight and acquire Military Grade Equipment. I also really like the idea of skills, while it does sound quite gameish and rocket might dislike the idea just for that I think it should be thought through. Being a loner in Chernarus and you don't know how to properly bandage your wounds, let alone give someone a blood transfusion makes working together with people much more likely. The Weapon Scarcity will probably solve a lot of problems ( I hope so ! ), Weapons should be rare, their ammo even more, players will bow to other players who have guns and group up with them to survive, but will it be this way? What if the players with guns will just kill all the helpless people without... a delicate matter. You have my beans.

I agree, seeing how Sniper Rifles can make the game extremely easy for people to play and provoke a "Let's hunt Survivors!" kind of playstile, sniping should be made harder. The ArmA2 modification ACE show's excellently how it's done. I don't think it'd be hard to implement a feature where wind would affect the bullet trajectory/speed. But imho, I agree with you, sniping needs to be harder, most people spend their time on towers/ in bushes waiting for other survivors.
-
I think it's a great idea, not only would it make the game harder (because it's damn easy atm) but it would add a little more realism too. I voted for the Zombie Dogs to appear in Forests, that would only seem plausible for me that dogs hunt for food there, and forests at the moment are a safe haven for everyone, I say, no longer. On a sidenote, it might not fit other players desires for DayZ, but I'm all for some sort of Mutants or Superzombies and or Zombie Soldiers with body armour/helmets that can take a couple more shots.

NATO weapons at HELO sites and additional weapons.
Colditz replied to count_blackula's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I agree with you, having a few more weapons in would be nice for a change, I personally despise the AK series (at least in ArmA2) and usually go for an L85 or G36 when I can, those should be rare if they get added. I believe drop chance for high quality weapons should be reduced even further. In a Zombie Apocalypse you'd think the most dangerous thing you could encounter is a rifle or shotgun but most shootings my Group had with other survivors ended in a fierce battle with dead on both sides and a HUGE exchange of bullets ranging from 5.56 NATO to .50cal. You have my beans.
