Jbrick, I do not agree with everything you say, but I completely understand your point of view and you have every right to think that way.You are correct when stating the hype has come and gone, and vanilla is as empty as you could ever imagine it. Standalone is bringing more to the table to attempt to refresh the old feeling we had for dayz. The new features will play an impact in dayz. However to say I'm impressed with what I have seen would be a lie. I'm slightly disappointed with what I have seen so far. Sure you have unwashed seedless watermelons and Vitamin D+ for items. But lets look at the rest, look at the zombie animations, look at the stability. These should be addressed before you plunder 400 items into a game. In my honest opinion they shouldn't release that alpha until next year, until it's stable and playable to at least a certain extent. Jbrick if I were you I would wait before even contemplating the purchase of standalone, with the bugs and lack of vehicles and throwable items I'm sure you will be greatly disappointed with it and almost see it as a step backwards. Best thing to do is wait and see if it lives up to the expectations of everyone. As for me ill wait a week or so before buying it, my expectations lower with every piece of footage I see, if the Alpha is even half of what everyone expects it to be, it will still have surpassed the rather low mark I have personally set for the game. I really hope I'm wrong, and the whole community could just point me the finger and say "I told you so", I really do hope. -

7) JSRS.....is what I call a new sounds, just put those in SA and the world will rejoice 6) oh yea......like in arma 3.......sounds new.........gotta love those helmets 5) better zombies? wait were talking about SA here right?.......if not running in a zig zag is what you call better, then god bless but compare them to ama 3 breaking point and then come back and say that. I glad they are just place holders hope they completely rework it. 4) One good point, really liking that inventory. 3) hunting animals sounds fun but they have a lot to do before they even think about that 2) Items seem good, like the damage on them. But please this won't solve kos. 1) Will be fun to explore the new areas of the map, I hope there is more players to compensate for the bigger area. -

Yea dayz was always in open even before they knew it was going to be it's own game. But people are right setting releases dates that are not kept are just frustrating people. What should have been done was Rocket saying "okay guys we are now working on dayz, from scratch release date Q2-Q3 2014 for alpha" he then should have released some footage of finished and good looking content every now and again to build hype. As it approaches the release date people would be hyped up for the game It's not about my decision to buy the game but rather the overall quality on dayz. While I agree with you that somethings take longer then others, it has been a year now in development, and the zombies still aren't done. Either they didn't focus to much on it........or they focused on it and not much progression is seen. Also ill just leave this here for you http://imgur.com/a/847fU#3 ;) -

I'm not impressed with the latest footage to be honest, I feel it has unimaginable amount of potential however it is nowhere near ready for an alpha release. I'm kind of confused as to why they focused on adding 400 items before they worked on animations and zombies. Just my 2 cents. I really hope Rocket proves me wrong and it blows everything out of the water, -

Vanilla currently has 864 servers Epoch has 1683 servers. People enjoy playing epoch because it adds more things to do, and allows you to obtain the illusion of progression by maintaining a base with your friends. And Epoch isin't killing dayz, it's the only thing keeping it alive atthe moment. Vanilla dayz was dieing way before the arrival of epoch, but epoch dealt a serious blow. Some did, but most chose epoch because it provides them with more things to do. With the vehicals, currency, base building...ect..... epoch allows you to do much more before you get bored. Safe zones (which I greatly disliked at first) allow you to meet plenty of players and i find it to be a great feature. At first I was really into dayz being hardcore....but that stage is long gone I just want it to be fun. dayz totally defeated the purpose of arma 2 (being a military simulator) Did that make dayz bad? The death of one thing is the birth of another. -

Yes I agree fully 100%, and in reality that how dayz is meant to be played. But right now that's not how dayz works and that run is, for the majority of players, a nuisance. That's why ever server begins with 100k vehicles. That's why admins place intermediate loot areas between major cities. While I don't enjoy those runs, and while i don't always have 4 hours on my time to play. That's what dayz is supposed to be, and for a good 8 months I have satisfied my gaming experience by playing other games best suited for my play style. But others simply shaped dayz into something more action packed, with more things to do. Hence the birth of epoch origins, overwatch.... The majority enjoys this shortcuts and added content The minority perfers the old fashion dayz Rocket (if he does the right thing) will appeal to the minority and create a harsh surviving experience. But one must not confuse hard and challenging with long and boring. -

No the unique game will stay unique and should not be made to played like any other games. The community itself will decide if dayz will be a 30 minute DM, and if it's even remotely possible people would do it. Why? because of the uniqueness and the adrenalin rush acquired after every kill. Something unacheivable in any other game. -

Yes there is literally thousands of games that are better oriented for that matter, I agree 100%. However it is doable in the current dayz. How long does it take to find a weapon? 10 minutes, 20 if your on a wheel chair? Then you stop by cherno and electro and there you have it. The reason why epoch is so popular is because it appeals to the masses. Loot everywhere, quick encounters, safe gear, trade zones. On this fourm saying you like epoch with get you crucified. Saying you don't like spending 8 hours running from point a to b gets you crucified. Saying that KOS is ineveitible and it isin't going anywhere gets you crucified. You are the loud minority, I speak for the silent majority. If that wasn't true you wouldn't see 1000000k vehicle servers, spawn with dmr servers, or epoch in general. How hard is it to find a good private hive vanilla server that all of you so desperately seek? For the record I agree with many things mentioned, however if i don't play devils advocate, who will? -

OP talks about those who don't have the time to invest in play session. Those are the ones with lives You can't blame people for not wanting to run 34 minutes just for the survival aspect can you? And dayz in it's first month was amazing, why because all were foolish, all didn't know what was going, all were willing to make friends. Fast forward a month and you know where to find that ak, or where that ural spawns or the best kill places. Its not the games fault and its not the communities fault. -

Don't blame kids Don't blame the game Don't blame the community Don't blame the devs Blame the fact that humans get bored . KOS isin't going anywhere, it wll always stay with us. Its foolish to try to fight it, the best we can do is integrate it into the game properly. -

Okay...........................I can't believe it. I had to reload the page twice because I couldn't believe what I was seeing, it is disgusting and humiliating to the world that there is a washing machine in the bathroom. -
I'm telling you its the true survival experience. Guns were extremely easy to find, but food and water were rare. The map is also quite small there was a lot of pvp.

Namalsk vanilla dayz was amazing, best dayz experience in my opinion. Origins was pretty good, Epoch is not bad. However when namalsk is where all the fun was at. Guns were everywhere but food was unbeleivably rare.

Why people play epoch? 1) It adds things to do. Maybe your looking for a bit more gold to get your safe, or hunting down some supplies for building, or setting up a road block to ambush cars or maybe your building your first wooden shack. There's always things to do unlike in vanilla which is kill people and get gear. Admit there isin't much to do in vanilla anymore. 2) It adds progression. Unlike in vanilla when you die everything is lost here you can store your stuff when your offline and car keys help you keep your ar safe. They are by no means guaranteed safe but its fun to progress in the game. 3) Less KOS. Due to safe zones I have met 10x as many friendlies in epoch then in vanilla. Sure its not realistic but it works. Getting to see the same people over again builds up relationships and rolling with them later on is a blast. Sure 80% of the people on this forum hate epoch (and you have all the reason to) but you are the loud minority, the silent majority is busy populating those epoch servers. Which is why it surpassed the vanilla servers. -

Dayz is a mod. How many people played it when it became mainstream Epoch is a mod of a mod, it has more servers then base vanilla Add to that all the mods made for arma 2 and 3 that keep the game alive is massive. Saying the average user does not play current mods is extremely false. That means every single person who played dayz is not an average user.... -

Everyone is implying dayz is still alive. Maybe stand alone with bring i back, but even then I give it no more then a year before it dies down to nothing once more. Remember the days when the forums were full? Where 60/60 vanilla servers were by the hundred? Where everyone knew what dayz was and those who didn't were amazed at what could be done in it? Those days are long gone and it's only downhill. Every devblog less and less people are watching, less and less are still interested. Kind of bring a tear to my eye.
