I would like to team up with you! I'm a relative noob, (can handle zombies and gathering), however I haven't killed anyone yet, I keep trying to befriend others over mic and get KoS every life I've played so far. Even after saving players by giving blood and getting them untrapped from hordes they have killed me as thanks, I really want to get into the cooperative gameplay already!!

to clarify, by pavlovs drooling dog theory I mean the theory where pavlov made the dog drool whenever a bell was rung, since after each time the bell rung the dog was awarded with food... In this game in relation, the player is always awarded by seeing a player, by killing him/her and recieving loot in place of the food. As much as this forces the dog to drool as it hears the bell, it too forces the human player to shoot the player that he/she sees, as food is a strong incentive. Which could very well be compared to loot for a player. What I am saying is that wether or not the developers intended for this, they are plain forcing ALL to kill every single player they see by conditioning them with the loot rewards. Just like pavlov did with his drooling dogs. -

Right, to respond to that let me just say that in reality, if that's what this game is trying to achieve "realism", this is simply a "game" and nothing else, nomatter how you put it, nobody is ever going to think of it as anything else than just sitting behind a screen "safely" and just do what they see fit. As in all deathmatch games, it's all and always been about killing other players, possibly finding loot, this game just so happens to currently use the pavlovs drooling dog theory "FORCING" players to kill other players for their loot giving them the upper hand. In reality, evolutionarily, all bandits have effectively wiped themselves out since being a bandit is not an effective way to uphold the survival of a specie. Hence why we today "in real life" are living together effectively helping eachother out instead. If this mod is ever going to be realistic, this is what it should reflect and it needs to force it, otherwise it will never in it's lifetime be a "realistic" game but simply just a "death match game". I rest my case. -

There's nothing "survival" about this game at all... whats the point of just staying away from everything and everyone? Might as well just make an offline singleplayer game where the goal is to avoid everything you see and hear, which would indeed be the dullest game in history. What I thought I'd enjoy about this game is the possibilities of co-op since it's a multiplayer game but since in each and all of my lives so far.... every single player has killed me on sight, or if I had the chance to, I let them live and they chose to kill me as soon I held my back against them right after I spared them. If this is a deathmatch game just say so, I could have saved my money and bought doom 3 or an unreal game... This game must be made harder to survive "alone" so that players need eachother. Simple as that. Or I might be completely mistaken to have thought this was a survival coop game, then I am truly sorry, then this game surely has the right type of players and it is very interesting indeed, albeit not my type of game.

Unless we get flags/effects for murder, this game will just be Deathmatch.

I have an idea for penalty, what if for the very first murder of your "life", your morality plays tricks on you that heavily burdens you physically and mentally somehow and the effect decreases the more you kill. Like when you get cold or wounded you get consequence of shaking madly, making it hard to aim, or if you catch an infection you cough a lot, attracting more zombies. There could be a similar but much more severe consequence for murders, by adding it to the morale level. And realistically, the more you kill the less the effect will be if that's what a player wants to achieve. I think real bandits will get over this "nerf" quickly but the common "survivors" will be much more careful to take that first step into becoming a murderer. Of course this should affect someone who's murdering in self-defense too, rather have a hard time for a while than dying, the effects should just be so prominent that you'd most of all want to avoid any murders at all your very first times. The whole morale thing sounds accurate and realistic for immersion, at least to me. -
This would be exactly the kind of thing DayZ needs right now with nobody communicating and everyone KoS, simple playing radios should be common in regular living houses, this could definitely reach out to players and give them hope. It's pretty realistic too, I bet a lot of people would find hope and gather wherever the radio voice told them to in reality too and bandits might have trouble if enough survivors are gathered and team up! Imagine the new possibilities of creating actual co-op survivor teams :D and other possibilities too like bandits setting up traps.

one late evening i had one too many beers and was so pissed I had no idea what I was doing, lunar eclipse so i didnt see anything and I played like this for abour 2 hours, the next day when I woke up and it was day, I found myself in the middle of elektro all bunkered up and I had acquired quite an impressive arsenal of equipment, took 1 step outside the building and instantly got myself killed. yeah night play is a lot easier in my opinion.

Those players who manage to find a tent has put a lot of effort into it, why should all that work be all in vain?

Starting fires: so easy a cavema--Nah.

While I agree matches and lighters aren't exactly rare items realistically, if everyone immediately were able to survive in the wilderness, not having to hunt for cans of beans in the cities and towns the game wouldn't be as difficult anymore is my guess. Also I think it's counted for that most survivors aren't scouts, but yeah it would be lovely to see the arsenal of options expand greatly in this game in every aspect. -
Is it just me or is this a general issue of the game as of now? Every single player I meet up with ends up killing me one way or another, wether they're alone or in group doesn't seem to matter in my cases. This is not because everyone I've met is a bandit, in fact I havent run into a "real" bandit yet who actually "kills on sight" or seem to have bad intentions, everyone is just super scared of everyone. It includes me but I still can't bring myself to kill anyone, unless I know for sure they're actual bandits since all I want is a co-operative DayZ gaming session. From my experience these players are even getting too scared to respond in chat to "Friendly!" when I announce it, they prefer to keep silent and hidden completely, most likely they've had a meeting with a trickster before that says friendly just before shooting them. My last death for example, a guy with just a makarov ran into my hideout and I managed to help him without presenting myself as a target until I killed the massive horde of zombies that were after him, then before actually presenting myself visually I talked to him saying friendly, even telling him there are plenty of weapons and supplies in here if he needs it. After that I slowly approach him and with good intentions, as I had stated to him clearly. I thought I had befriended him but in fact he was only hesitating for 2 minutes as I "met up" with him, then as I turned my back he shot me. He had barely nothing, I offered supplies and teamwork but he was still too scared to work with someone who protected him and offered weapons/food/ammo/tools etc. Hasn't this just gone TOO far?
