Ignore some of the mess, only just got the main desk a few days ago and still cleaning up from the re-arranging. Had to stop using my simpit as a main desk due to size. It lasted me a good ~2 years though! ....and yes it was built by me, hence why it's shit looking.

Personally use a Logitech G700 with 4 Thumb buttons as follows: Front Top: Free Look Toggle Front Bottom: Push to Talk on Vent/Mumble/TS Back Top: 3rd Person toggle Back Bottom: Binocs/Range-Finder Have Weapon Switch, Auto-Run, Flashlight and some harder to reach keys tied to the G-keys on keyboard as well. Useful to tie those G-L type keys to something closer. :) All about personal prefrence though. A squaddie uses his mouse buttons for croutch/stand/run type things.

DayZ - Adding Picture to the text? Problem!!

Seem to see that issue with every ImageShack Photo Insertion attempt. I'd assume the forums don't support imageshack for whatever reason as Photobucket works just fine. Tried every possible thing I could think of but it just seems to be imageshack and the forums not playing nice. -

Q. Why does my slug ammo not register for the Remington, double barrel, and m1014 shotguns. (by this i mean, i have more then one clip, but it says i'm out of ammo, and i cant reload...) A. Must be some sort of bug. AA. Also possible you have 2rnd Slugs and your gun needs 8rnd slugs (or vice versa). To change between them, have 4x 2rnd slugs in your inventory and right click on one. It'll say "combine into", if it's an 8rnd right clicking will give the option to de-combine into 4x 2rnd slugs. Also the Slugs and 1866 Winchest ammo are different, be sure you have the right stuff! Winchester takes 1866 ammo Double Barrel takes 2rnd slugs/pellets M1014 and Remington take 8rnd slugs/pellets -

Having used Logitech for 6+ years, I have to ask....what are people doing to their mice that gives you that impression? I've used several of their multi-directional-wheel mice and never once had it go out. Used some el cheap-o ones for a few years, no issue, then another (was the cheapest thing to break in a fit of rage), few mid-range ones for a while, and now the G700 (~1 year). Typically replaced them due to always wanting newer...I'm picky. I'll admit some of the cheap ones with a small wheel did have an issue of not middle-clicking properly. The tension was too much (had to be the hulk to push that thing in!) for something so small, so it would just give in and veer right/left. Made middle clicking an adventure of 'Browser forward, back, forward, back, back....middle click'. I'm a bit of a Logitech addict (if I use it and it can be Logitech, it is), but I know full well they have their issues and admit that often with certain products *cough* joysticks *cough*, but just not an issue I've run into with their mice really. Plus if something breaks they're great at replacing it....eventually (long RMAs are a story in of itself). I'll avoid picking at some things that are a bit...off. However, I couldn't let the Logitech thing go. :P -

Officially, no. The RT servers (US 124-127) are only a very small branch of what they do so it's really not surprising they have no official VOIP server. A user (Nexagelion1) did post about opening a small TS3 server he had to the RT community, I don't know the details and wouldn't post them without his permission anyways. May be able to contact him via the website if you wish to join that though. :) On that note though, if there were to be enough players regularly visiting the RT servers who wished to have a VOIP Server, I am more than willing to open my Mumble Server up to anyone. Only 10-slot for now, but why pay for more than I need atm? If that got popular enough I would upgrade as needed. Only seen a few tagged members, so likely a lot more people around than I know of! Joining before buying isn't that uncommon, gives a chance to see what it's all about, meet people, etc. I come from another community where it's fairly common-place so I may just be use to it. :) -

Plenty of RT members around, good many on the RT servers clearly are RT members. Least with [RvB] tags I would hope they are RT members! :) One myself (if it wasn't obvious), mainly play on the RT servers too as the ping is good, timezone is nice, normally space, etc. -

Glad I could help some. :) Not the most experienced around (far from it!) but I do come from another community where this is common place. Some of them having been doing this for 30+ years so I tend to trust 'em. Have been building/tweaking my own computers for about 5 years now though, so certainly picked up a few things. Funny bit? I was thinking of making this exact type of thread 3 or 4 nights ago, put it off and the very next day...I see this! Was trying to get a good layout in my head, figure where to post, make sure I had everything that would be helpful and ya beat me to it. :P Again, very nice, informative post(s)! -

Certainly a good guide, although a lot of things will vary per person, but it's a great basics/intermediate guide. :) Few things I do want to chime in on: Power Supply Unit (PSU) "A high clocked CPU? More harddisks than is healthy for your back if you need to pick it up? Don't overbuy it too much though, as it will "leak" power and costing you more than you want in your electric bill. Generally, a PSU of 550 watt is pretty sufficient for a single higher end card, a normal CPU and maybe up to 5 harddisks. You want more than 1 graphics card? then I'd suggest taking a 750-850 watts one. Recommended brands: OCZ, Corsair, XFX, Be Quiet!, Coolermaster (though coolermaster is noisy as hell)" It's a good tip to not overbuy as PSUs are best run at a certain % of their max. Too much won't do anything good, and obviously too little will do even worse. One tip I didn't see listed, Overhead. A PSU should have ~25% overhead of what you need. If you need 500 Watts, get ~625W (500 + .25%). Normally, 600-650 is best for a high-end GPU system as it provides enough power for the parts with that overhead without being an excessive amount. That would be best for a high-end CPU, single-GPU, Dual-HDD, type system. Also, I would recommend other brands: Seasonic (best), Corsair (often re-branded seasonic), PC P&C (If you can find old models, not the new OCZ re-brands), some OCZ (depends on the model). Never heard of "Be Quiet!" but their OEM is not one I recognize. Same goes for Coolermaster, I know the name well, but their OEMs aren't ones I recognize. Never had considered XFX, but it seems they use Seasonic as their OEM, so that could be a good choice if that's true! The only reason I had to chime in is due to the PSU being the single most valuable part in a system. It goes, everything can go with it. Got lucky when mine blew up (OCZ) and nothing went with it, but I'm in the very small "lucky people" population. CPU: Just want to chime in on something I didn't see as a tip to people. More cores does NOT = better. A 2.0GHz Quad Core isn't always better than a 3.0GHz Dual core. Only compare same-Family CPUs in this case. Same concpet mentioned in the OP that 3.0GHz Family A isn't always better than 2.0GHz Family B (compare different families in this case!). Just some extra little tips! Your guide is a great one for starters and those who may be a little rusty! :D -
Guess I can jump in. :) Xcelsior in-game, considered changing to a more...humanly...name for this game/mod. Afterall, who wouldn't trust the dear Jon Watson? (Wrong spelling, but I'll stick with it being that it's how my name actually is spelled and all!) The friendly eye in the sky. If you're in danger and I'm in range, it'll soon be a very dead threat. Yes, I find high-end Snipers and use them to help players, in particular freshly spawned players...issue? :P Someone puts the life of my partner(s) in danger and they'll soon regret it. Don't endanger me or another innocent and I'll be more than happy to help in any way I can. Afterall, what gives another person the right to decide who lives and who dies? <S> Xcelsior Bearcats

More people like that would be nice. Ran into someone like that once. Was down to ~1100 blood after multiple gunshots, zombies, falling, basically anything that can cause damage. Was waiting on the roof of the Hospital, Rifle ready for that one guy who wanted to finish me. Suddenly I looked behind me...guy with an axe just standing there. Quick words of "friendly" and he agreed to give a blood trans. He coulda killed me, had plenty of time, but instead he helped me, I gave him an unloaded M1911 (had no ammo for it at the time) for his help and we went on our way. I try to help, but people make it so hard. I use to snipe off zombies as a fresh player got to close to them in Elektro, but someone decided I shouldn't be doing that and axed me. Lately I just avoid going near people. Only ever killed 1 person (maybe 2), but they were justified in my eyes.

While i don't know the technical side of it (wiki links explanations), I am just going off personal experience. :) I clearly don't know the area the map is located (never left East Coast US) but some of the common sounds couldn't change that much from place to place could they? With the Water sound, I know some places may be louder than others depending on what the water is coming into contact with, how windy it is, etc, but it just seems off. Unless I have a setting wrong the "beach" at Cherno, for example, is incredibly loud. Plus it just seems to cut off for me, one second water sounds, and the next there is none. It fades some, but not to the point of a whisper before getting drowned out. Guns, I have only fired / heard a few, as mentioned, but it just felt like they were a bit too quiet at the point of firing. Obviously volume of speakers plays into that, but in comparison it feels a little low. Obviously I can only go off personal experience, and don't really know the technical side of how it would get coded, or even how objects affect sound travel and such (only basic understandings), but personally it just felt off a little. It is just a suggestion though, and it's always open for input! :D

If anyone was on US125 (pretty sure it was) that keeps an eye on the "Zombies alive/total" counter....it was dropping because of us. :P Got a friend to try the game so we started out like normal, he spawned near Cherno and I was in Elektro with some gear. I headed his way, we met up and looted Cherno best we could with no issues. Well, we had to kill someone in self defense, idiot tried firing at us (top floor of the Fire House) from the middle of the street with an M1911, ~110m shot. Landed damn close, but alas our Enfield won the day. To think he coulda lived if he had just not shot, I only shoot those who shoot me. After looting town and heading out we got to a small town just north of Cherno and got in a bit of a bad spot. I had no crossbow bolts and we had to kill 1, but shooting would alert a horde....we shot it. That alerted about 15 of em and I only had 17 shots (G17) and he had plenty of M19 ammo. After standing in the middle of the road fighting it our for about 3 mins we headed north some more and got to a stable. He says "I saw a door around this way" while I headed to a door around the other way, that I knew was clear....he shoulda listened. He had to kill a zombie he agro'd right as he turned the corner to his door....and all hell broke loose. That shot alerted 35+ zombies to come charging over a hill at us movie-stampede style. I was already in the barn kinda waiting for him when I heard "OH GOD, I'm dragging some in!" ....1 zombie appears....2...3....10...15...20...25.... He didn't want to waste AK ammo and I had no pistol ammo so we had to fight off an entire horde coming through 2 doors with 1x Enfield and 1x M1911. We started the fight with 30 Rifle shots and ~80 M19 shots....ended with 0 Enfield and ~19 M19 shots. We decided to cut our loss there and head out the back and leave well enough alone. When we looped back around there were still loads of them pouring into the stable from who-only-knows-where. We got to a safe house and sat for a min...and he did it again.... His game glitched/minimized and it caused him to fire a shot in the middle of town. We called it quits as we saw another horde rushing us. So to anyone who saw the counter going down rapidly last-night on US125....yea....it was "fun". :D
