Can I get a better CPU? And other suggestions
xcelsior replied to Hartraft's topic in Technology/Programming
Same one. :) In case ya feel like double checking; Newegg US vs DealsExtreme Aus A cheap upgrade to hold things together for another year is normally a decent idea. If an overhaul is less than 6 months away, not worth it, but 1 year or so it's useful. Just purely off Benchmarks your current CPU has a ~48 FPS rating for Crysis 2 vs the 965 of ~108 FPS. If you feel safe with a small overclock you can always push a small (read, small) FPS boost out of the system too. I'm actually in the process of upgrading my own system. I need to finish by upgrading the Mobo/Ram/CPU. Plan to upgrade Mobo/Ram and a few months later get the CPU since the new mobo supports my current one. Upgrading in steps can work so long as it's done right, but an overhaul is usually just so much easier. -

Aaaand the fanboyism started early in this thread. Hart, it's up to you if it's worth the cost (~$100 US) but there is a viable upgrade with your current Motherboard. It depends on your budget, what you want to be able to do with the comp, etc. If you want 'uber overkillz gamingz!', well yea you need a new Mobo and everything. Intel will, simply put, win in nearly every benchmark over AMD, and you would expect it for the price. Some places its reign is less noticeable, other places it stands out like a fanboy in the oppositions convention. If you just want better performance for as little as possible quickly and are fine with slightly under max settings in games (GPU should carry you well for a while yet), a Phenom II X4 is the best bet. The X4 965 is still for sale through Newegg, and most any 9xx Phenom II X4 will work. It will bring your performance well above your current Athlon X2. I use the the equivalent of the 965/980 and paired with an ATI 7970 can get perfectly fine FPS in any game (60+ in all but a very small handful of games at maxed). RAM should be fine, 8GB of DDR3 is fairly common, doubtful it's 'slow'. GPU, still good so long as you don't go for high res gaming. Power Supply is powerful enough, not overly powerful, but not personally a fan of the OEM (least it's not Rosewill!). Bit powerful but not 'overly' powerful. Average Gaming systems typically 5-600 is perfect, med-high gaming 6-700, and so on. A .25% headroom is what you want to aim for, not too much over or under. Short story; Quick upgrade that will help a good bit for ~$100 US...new CPU. Can find a list of what you can use here. I'd personally suggest a 965. If you want an overhaul....well that's a bit more complex and far from 'short story'. If I was willing to spend the money I'd likely run Intel, but frankly I'm broke! -
For an unknown reason DayZ Anti-Hax banned everyone in the remote-exec log for Helicopter crashes, including myself. However we have removed all bans of players banned for Heli crashes and players should be able to sign on again. We apologize for this major inconvenience and will be sending alerts to all players through all means we can to ensure them this was not of our own doing. About 6 people were affected by this and we apologize greatly for this as it banned even long-time players. If anyone has any questions regarding this, or anything about the server, let us know. Regards, Xcel

Update as per our website: http://bearcats18.en...map-change#last We are planning a Map Change for a change of pace! Now before anyone gets too worried we'll explain this a bit. We will save the Chernarus map database so that at any time we can go back to it and not lose any items/vehicles. We are not changing instantly. We will not keep the map indefinitely; unless people prefer it. All server settings will carry over; this includes vehicle count, difficulty, timezone, etc. Now, how this will work. On February 1st we will shut the server down and go about installing the Taviana map. This will take several hours to do so it will likely be done early in the morning EST. Once everything is installed we will let everyone know via normal communication methods and will be on for a few hours to ensure it works properly. We will keep the map for 1 month and then see how popularity with the map is. If we are seeing a lack of people enjoying it, we will switch back to Chernarus. While this is a rather large switch, there isn't much to it and we hope everyone has fun! As the time gets closer or details change we will let everyone know! If you have any questions/comments, let us know!

The CPU is as Overclocked as it's getting with this setup. The CPU is actually an AMD Phenom II X2 555 BE 3.2GHz unlocked to x4 3.792GHz (18.5x Multi 205 HT Clock) running 1.5375v (max of 1.55v possible). Anything over this crashes it within a few minutes, if not instantly. :) I do plan to upgrade the last few parts eventually but there is not rush. Despite what everyone says about AMD, I've never had issues with this CPU (close to 3 years old). I get perfectly fine FPS in any games at maxed (or damn near) settings.

Avoided posting when this was new as multiple thread like it existed, but things have changed so screw it: Things are a complete mess right now as I am in the process of modding the computer right now. I'm not bothering to clean until that's finished (waiting on some fans and a new case window acrylic sheet). Also need a replacement Soundcard, hence my speakers all over the place (on-board lacks 5.1). Specs though: ASUS M4A88T-M LE AM3 Motherboard AMD Phenom II X4 B55 3.8GHz CPU G. Skill DDR3-1333 4GB (2x 2GB) RAM Sapphire 7970 OC GPU WD Black 1TB HDD SeaSonic X750 PSU As mentioned, modding the case so I'm too lazy to clean up yet (inside or outside the case), but for anyone interested in the mod:

Looking for a decent private hite
xcelsior replied to behzad@motaghi.dk's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
"Almost", but not all. I am the sole 'admin' of our server (in that only I have access to the controls), and can guarentee I don't 'abuse' any 'powers'. Course we have no 'Admin Map'. So yes it happens, but there are plenty of us that don't do it. Admins are ment to uphold the highest level of respect to its users, any admin using 'powers' like that clearly shouldn't be an admin. Having been an Admin for a few years in various games it really does surprise me how some Admins act. I'm no saint, but I think some forgot what an admin should be doing; we're not 'gods of the server'. Maybe it's just my attitude/play-style though. -
Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays to everyone from the Bearcats!

We have now enabled Death Messages and Random Wrecks. Death Messages now working. They are purely PvP messages. Death by anything but a player won't show up. Random Wrecks are wrecked Helis/Planes/Tanks hulls around the map with random low-mid range loot. Regards, Xcel

We apologize to anyone who was affected by scripters over the past few days. We have a few small incidents and they were all handled quickly and any damage was undone as best we can. All scripters have been banned and we will continue to do so to any scripter. We also apologize to a few users who were banned by Anti-Hax for false-positives, they have been corrected. The timezone was also fixed to properly reflect the switch to GMT-8 as it was not properly changing before. We hope this didn't confuse or anger anyone as it was getting dark far too early for the listed timezone. As always, if anyone has any questions, or comments, let us know! We hope to see you online soon! Regards, Xcel

We are now running: DayZ 1.7.4.4 ArmA Beta 99515 Bliss v4.2 Timezone has also been changed from GMT -6 TO GMT -8 as per our recent poll. In the coming days 'DayZ Anti-Hax' will be replaced with 'Gotcha!' as our host switches over. We ask patience of everyone who joins us as this switch occurs as we attempt to avoid any issues. Downtime will be as minimal as possible but as always we will keep everyone informed of any issues on our regular sites! If you have any questions, concerns, or wish to contact us, feel free to at; Online | Facebook | E-Mail | Steam | or any other listed contact method here or on our website. Regards, Xcel

I would like to thank those who were patient with us while we looked into Anti-Hax false-positive bans. We have gotten it to unban players properly (now confirmed) now and will always be on the lookout for false-positives and legit bans. As always if you have any questions, concerns, or need to contact us, our details are in the second post! Regards, Xcel

I would like to thank those who stuck through the ping issues we had a few weeks ago. They seems to have settled after the storm and election passed and all is back to normal. We have also resolved (to the best of our knowledge) the issues with unbanning through Anti-Hax. For some unknown reason it would reapply the ban but we seem to have resolved it, hopefully. We are hoping the issue of auto-banning for false-positives gets fixes, but until then we will continue to help anyone who was banned and believes it unjust. All logs are checked in-depth to ensure your ban was unjust or not. Any player found guilty of illegal actions will be told of such and will not recieve an appeal. We are also running 1.7.3 and Bliss v4.0 as expected. Vehicles have been upped slightly and items such as wire-fencing and sandbags are removed every few days, the exact amount of days is listed in our changelogs. Out-of-bounds vehicles is still enabled to ensure no one camps off-map. Restarts are now at 12 & 6 AM/PM EST to ensure fresh/cycled loot and minimize lag as much as possible. Server Timezone is now GMT -6. Death Messages are OFF despite our Name Tag showing them on, we cannot turn this off at this time. Any other changes and updates can be found in our changelogs online! If you have any questions, concerns, or wish to contact us, feel free to at; Online | Facebook | E-Mail | Steam | or any other listed contact method here or on our website. Regards, Xcel

Due to power issues from Hurricane Sandy I was unable to respond to this issue. However, we do have a post regarding this on our forums; http://bearcats18.enjin.com/forumz/m/6288053/viewthread/4704151-ping-issues From our very, very small tests, it's not the server. One of our Sub-Admins lives just West of the host and through a trace route has no issues with ping. However, my own ping, which comes from south-west of the server gets very bad spikes going through DC. Given the time of year, it's not surprising. However, without more input from players we have 0 (read; zero) way of knowing the exact origin of the issue. If we can get several tests we can pinpoint the issue. Regards, Xcel

I apologize for not being able to keep up here, the forums are always iffy for me. However, we are constantly keeping an eye on our Website should people stop by! Anyone is welcome to stop in and say 'Hi', ask questions, and make themselves at home! We have had no issues with scripters since 10/7, and that was a single case that was quickly taken care of. Downtime has been minimal, but we do apologize for the last few days. Bliss v3.5 had issues on some servers and SurvivalServers staff worked throughout the weekend to get it fixed quickly! Big Thanks to them! I do not have an exact number offhand but it is somehwere in the range of 15-25 with 2 Helis. We may up that but it is undecided yet. Thank for stopping by! The server is still fairly new so still growing. The recent downtime was also a major hit that we're still recovering from. Mumble is open to all those who stop-by the Bearcats home, and we're always happy to see new faces! If anyone has any questions, concerns, or other, I will be happy to help as best I can via any contact method; Online, Mumble, PM, Steam, or here!

W.I.P. Additions/changes to come Potential Guides: How to shut down unwanted programs, install a GPU properly, etc Seen a fair few "Help, low FPS!", "My Super Computer won't run above xxFPS!", etc, etc. Normally people don't know how to troubleshoot an issue, or tried doing something they shouldn't have without more research. Normally it's something "simple", although not always. So of course, sometimes a simple solution works! For now we'll stick to just issues relating to DayZ. Mostly, low FPS (Frames per Second). NOTE: This is NOT a insta-fix-all guide, not even an insta-fix-guide! These are very basic steps to help troubleshoot an issue. All information gathered in the steps should be saved and included in a Tech Support Thread if you can't fix it yourself! First step: Before attempting anything else, reboot the program(s) you are having issue with! Simply shut down all open programs/applications/windows in-use, be sure to save work of course. Give it a minute to fully shut down all the programs and attempt to run the program(s) you are having issues with. Second step: If rebooting the program(s) didn't work, take it a step further; Reboot your system. As before, save all work and restart your computer in a safe manner. After bootup give it a few minutes to fully turn-on as some programs in the background may take a minute to start. Third step: If the reboot(s) didn't work, try to think have you changed anything recently? Did you install a new program, uninstall? Install a new Video Card, RAM, PSU, other? If you have changed something recently, see if you can undo it safely. Changes to a system can have any number of affects, good and bad. One wrong step can leave you with a crippled system! Fourth step: If nothing was changed to your knowledge, maybe something was changed without your knowledge! Close ALL programs you manually opened then open Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del > Task Manager) and check the bottom of the window. What is the "CPU Usage" and "Processes" at? If, with nothing open, you see your CPU Usage fluxing over 1-2%, STOP! Something is using your CPU that shouldn't be! Switch to the 'Processes' tab and sort by CPU. What, if anything, is spiking the CPU? Is it something you willingly allowed? This step can be a bit overwhelming for a normal user, if you have ANY questions, please ask! Never shut something down or delete something unless you know what it is! Fifth step: If it's still acting up after checking CPU usage, maybe you're using up too much RAM. As with Step 4, close all programs! Open 'Run' (Windows 7 users, this is built into the start menu) and type in DxDiag and hit enter; If it prompts you to allow it, allow it. Locate your Page File on the first screen you see. What is it? Too much used will leave your system lacking. (It will read similar to: Page File: 1200MB used, 2400MB Free ; Numbers will vary and both are important!) RECOMMENDED: Click Save All Information, open the saved filed and copy/paste down to, and including, Sound Devices in your tech support request. Someone can help you make sense of everything! If you can't figure out the issue yourself, please request help on the Tech Forums! When you post for help include the following: Your Issue Your DxDiag (see Step 5) Your CPU Usage and Processes (see Step 4) Your Power Supply Unit model ## (If possible) Any Changes you've made recently (see Step 3) There is no need to include your system specs if you include all of the above. It will be included in the DxDiag already, it's a 2-for-1! :) W.I.P.

He's just the world's worst hacker...he keeps getting us killed....and killed....and killed.... :P "Let's check the UAZ spawn, although I doubt it'll be there, we haven't found cars on this server for the past 4 days" "Yea it's--found an ATV" "Really where?" Never posted for a ban appeal before, in any game, due to not being the kind to cause issues. However, tonight 9/7/12 at around 9:30PM EDT I was banned by the admin of US 3040 DayZ Rangerz hosted by SurvivalServers.com for "Vehicle Creation". I think I know the issue but I have no way of contacting the admin ([DRZ] Maximus?) to attempt to get an appeal. Potential issue: Friend and I were fixing up a vehicle and I had just put a tire on it, as I went to get our scrap metal I lagged out. After several attempts of apparent "kicked from game" messages (was being broadcast via chat according to friend) I finally logged in and suddenly got a message saying: You were kicked off the game. (BattlEye: Admin Ban (Vehicle Creation)) I noticed in my gear right before that I had a tire again. I am guessing it lagged and thought I "created" a tire because I had already used it but still had one. I didn't "create" a tire, but I can see how it thought I did. If I was really a person able to "create vehicles" and things of that sort I likely wouldn't have been so nice as to let you all fly away with a perfect Heli while we spent hours fixing 2 vehicles, would I? You all scared the hell out of us while you were refueling that Heli btw. :P With any luck someone knows how to contact the admin of the server, or the admin sees this. Would love to get back to what little gear we had on the vehicles. <S> X

Ban appeal; US 3040 ; DayZ RangerZ
xcelsior replied to xcelsior's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Thanks again for the appeal, Maximus. :) Always a nice change of pace to find a server with great admins! Now to just find a vehicle to fix up again, leggin' it can be a bit tiresome.
