Having never used the SilverStone I am going purely off similar looking cases, no need to get all up in arms like a Doctor Who fangirl on a Rose-hater. The Thermaltake is one I have used (though I use the NZXT M59 personally), and while it is plastic in a lot of places, it's no more than any other case...though the actual case metal is quite flimsy. While Silver may make some of the best, that particular one looks rather bland, not just in looks but in useful features. Cable routing isn't something everyone looks for, but that case sure looks like it lacks anything good, which lacking that can hinder airflow drastically. Again, I never said Silver was bad, or even that that case was, just that there are better options, hence the listing Corsair/Antec/NZXT, or as you mention just a better one from Silver. As to the paint, I said not always true, but many cheap cases skimp out on the paint as one of the many "steps". If it's an expensive one or just a good brand obviously it's likely not true of that case, but when did Lian Li ever make a $16 case (if they do I'm gonna look sheepish). If you bring age in to it, obviously it's less true... Everyone knows the LEDs make better quality, duh. :P The Silver PS05 certainly looks better overall though (also discontinued was part of the reason for saying not get the other unless he has it already), at least they put some cable routing in (though not much).

CPU; Looks good GPU; If you can stretch a few more dollars a 7790/R7 260X would be a better starting point, Sapphire has one at ~$135 USD Mobo; Looks good (assuming you mean the 'GA' -DS3P model?) RAM; Looks good (assuming it's a 2x 2GB kit, not a single 4gb stick) - You can save a couple dollars on the Ripjaws 8gb set though if you wish. HDD; Looks good - can compare prices to a WD Black drive to see if you can save a few dollars PSU; Never heard of the brand and can't find any real info on them, I would highly suggest using SeaSonic or Corsair. A SeaSonic 500W or Corsair CX500 would work. Case; If you don't have it already I'd say try for something a little better. It won't help performance but it will help in other areas; Airflow, ease of use, looks, not cutting your hands because they were too lazy to smooth edges....etc. Corsair, Antec, NZXT are good, heck, a build for a family member we used the Thermaltake Commander, bit low-end, but a good starter case for sure. Not always true, but most cheap cases that aren't painted inside end up being a royal bitch to work with. If they're too cheap to paint then.... Would come out to about ~$550 USD with the changes, but would likely be worthwhile. The PSU is a must to change, never trust everything on an off-brand PSU.

Assuming that's all in DayZ, the View Range is null as that is server dictated (~1600 on vanilla I think). Running Very High at those FPS is rather impressive though if that's in a town like Cherno/Elektro. Personally I am lucky to pull 30-40 in Cherno at Very High with a 7970 (280X) + FX-8320. Either way, it looks like a great GPU that will work great for quite some time. :)

What's listed looks good, almost identical to what I use and it runs great. Just a few things; -You can save ~$50 USD by using an FX-8320 and overclocking if you feel comfortable doing so and are on a budget - You'll almost certainly want an aftermarket CPU cooler eitherway since the FX tend to run rather hot on the stock. -Would suggest (as other have) using 8GB of RAM and bumping up to 1600MHz (1866+ if you really want, but 1600 is a good base). Also would suggest using the Genesis or Predator series from Kingston (more of their 'gaming' lines) -Personally say use a SeaSonic or Corsair PSU, but I'm rather picky about PSUs. SeaSonic is the top quality with Corsair generally trailing not far behind.
-
According to Benchs; Personally I use a 7970 and the 80 seems a bit high, though it was done in SP. I've only played MP and while I get anything from 45-120, it's normally hovering right at 60-70fps. It may be possible the 270 gets 50-60 in MP at those settings, it just seems unlikely is all, I'd say 40-50 is more likely. You'll definately run into some issues in the VRAM department in MP though. I see it break 2GB quite regularly at Ultra/1080p. For SP though, the chart is likely right, I've just not played any campaign.

I can't find any reliable info on that PSU, or even the brand really. I'd personally suggest before putting a 1-200$ card in, get something that will give more peace of mind. Something like a SeaSonic 5-600 watt or Corsair CX/RM 5-600 watt. If you feel comfortable using the current PSU, make sure it has the required 6 pin power plugs. Don't use adapters as that likely means the unit just isn't up to powering a GPU. Something like this would power anything in the sub-£200 range should you decide to get a new one; http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-Builder-Series-Bronze-Supply/dp/B009RMP2VE/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1385334339&sr=1-1&keywords=Corsair+cx500

If you are willing to use the full £160 (~$260USD) then likely the best bets are R9 270X or GTX 660/Ti. For a bit less, the 7790 (2gb) or GTX 650/Ti should work fine. The CPU is an issue for ArmA, but the cards should at least get decent FPS. Also, assuming the PSU is of good qaulity you'll be set, otherwise you may want to watch out for that.

Like I mentioned, as long as it's x1 slots it's useless for gaming, but there are still some x1 cards. Things that require almost no power or bandwidth could use it, but it's not common. Basically it could (only) work for just having a bunch of lower-end cards bitmining, but it seems rather ineffecient to use 6 low end cards to do so. Really the whole idea sounds rather dumb. I don't bitmine but surely 6 really low-end cards can't be better at it than 3-4 high-end cards. Though it does have the advantage of not needing a really beefy PSU to do it...
-
Plus until it's x16 slots (listed mobo is 5x x1 & 1x x16) it's useless in gaming. Also, unless we get a serious jump in standard resolution soon, even 3-way SLI is fairly useless in gaming until you hit above ~1900x1200. Basically, in gaming, the price/performance/power/etc ratio just isn't going to be worth anything above 2-3x SLi/XFire unless something serious changes. In things like benching/bitmining/whatever, maybe there is a use.

Which will yield the most FPS? NEW PC BUILD 7770 gHz editon
xcelsior replied to Chaos21 (DayZ)'s topic in Technology/Programming
That extremely vauge and can be very situational. Any Overclocking can affect that, a poorly up-kept computer can affect it, which "fx processor" it is can affect it, the game choice will greatly affect it, etc. The biggest things being which "FX processr" since there are a lot, and secondly what games. -
Looking to upgrade GPU, PSU suggestions?
xcelsior replied to boxy0127's topic in Technology/Programming
Corsair still has SeaSonic in a few, though the majority is Channel Well. A few SeaSonic rebrands; 650watt; http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=17211&cPath=354 750watt; http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=17209&cPath=354 The Modular versions are from CW though. Even if it's CW it will still work great and last quite well. -
Not a bad system. The 270X (7870) is a good card, but for ~$1100 USD it's kind of a bad trade-off to get it with an i7. If it had cut back to an i5 and put a 280X it would have a been a better all-round system for the price. 270->280 ~$100 USD i7->i5 ~$75 USD so it's about even. Not saying it's a bad comp, but it just suffers from the typical pre-built symptoms.

Which will yield the most FPS? NEW PC BUILD 7770 gHz editon
xcelsior replied to Chaos21 (DayZ)'s topic in Technology/Programming
It not an exact comparison since I don't own a 7770, but I do have a spare GTX 260 laying around which is, in most cases, a close match. It really depends on the game, but in many it's a very close match with the 7770 winning out slightly. Anyways; AMD FX-8320/50 @ 4.4GHz (H80i cooling) GTX 260 @ 1080p 8gb DDR3-1600 ASUS Sabertooth 990fx R2.0 Settings; Results from Arma Benching; Bench 1; 38 FPS avg Bench 2; 18 FPS avg (Very intensive bench in Arma terms) Bench 3; 36 FPS avg For being on 'High' that's not bad scores. If someone has an i5 with a similar GPU to compare then it'd be set. There is no DayZ Benchmark and going off people's word about what fps they have is a bad idea, hence why I went with the in-game benchs. A tip though, the 7770 paired with AMD or Intel won't do "max settings" at 3-4K view range. You'd be looking a mix of Med/High at ~1500-2000 view. -

xcelsior replied to Chaos21 (DayZ)'s topic in Technology/Programming
I don't have a 7770 to test, but I do have a similarly spec'd card I can test with. I'll install it later today (gotta take thing apart anyways) and see how the 8350+7770 (damn close anyways) seems to work. I can sey that with a 7970 the 8350 works just fine. I don't have an i5 to compare with still though so that will be up to someone else. -

That is 100% false/myth. AMD works no "better" when paired with an AMD GPU then an Intel CPU would. I would agree with using a better cooler, though it's not needed (unless overclocking). As to the OP, if you are looking to save the most money, an FX-8320 will overclock to the 8350 speeds for ~$50 less. How well it compares to an i5 in Arma, I don't know as I don't have an i5. The 8320 performs perfectly fine though. I use the x20 + Radeon 7970 and get good FPS (60+) on High in most cases...the horrid "optimizing" kills FPS in cities though (~30). Again though, that's with a 7970 and I don't have an i5 to compare with. -
Oh certainly, if the thing can get a good enough lead in realistic benchmarks (always some iffy room on manuf benchs) it will be a great card for ~$150 more. I can only hope the Titan gets lowered drastically or removed from the shelves entirely after all the cards matching/beating it for far less. I know there are people dumb enough to buy it if they don't though....look at the Intel "extreme" series for proof...
-
Unless AMD did some serious backpaddeling and never told vendors...that is not "at the same price" as a 290X. The 290X is retail of $550 (~580 with better coolers). The 290 (non-X) is $400 retail. I'm not denying the 780Ti is looking more powerful, but there's a lot to be said about a $150-300 price difference.
-
"Run circles around" is a bit of an exaggeration, though it is a small bit faster in most cases.
-
The 770 is slightly faster at stock speeds. Depending on the overclocking reach of each card (varies by every single card) the 280X could tie or slightly beat out a 770, but likely the 770 will stay a step ahead. Both will perform excellent in most any game with Arma being the iffy area (poor optimizing and such), but even then they will run just fine on a good server. If you're gaming at 1080p you likely won't see any real difference in games, benching or higher-res though could increase the gap.
-
Not sure what you were expecting, it's a good card but these benchmarks are desgined to make systems cry. It's just about in line with what I'd expect to see compared to my own 7970, so you're doing fine. You could Overclock it some and get a bit more out of it if you're really worried. It's going to take more than a single 770 to get a stable 60fps in a bench like this though. It's a fine score though. My 7970 at 24/7 Overclock got the following on a single run; As an edit; I can get 48.6 FPS @ 2032 points if I up it to my Benchmarking Overclock, so you should be able to get a good boost if you can get some more OC out of your 770. Again though, even at what you're at, you're getting a good score.

The 500W can power the system for a while if it's not overclocked. After about a year or two, or any serious overclocking, it will push the PSU to its limits and if left there for long won't hold. It'll take a couple years or some serious overclocking to get that kind of draw though. Basically it's just going to run above it's intended draw (~85%) and potentially lose a small amount of eff and put unneeded stress on parts, though this will only happen if the system is at full draw. I woulda personally suggest having gone 600W.

Well... here it is... My new PC
xcelsior replied to OfficerRaymond's topic in Technology/Programming
Well if looks come into it then yea, go for what's nicer looking. :P Though the <side>-mounted bit is kind of misleading since none of them are really 1-way, personally my H80 is front-mounted, seen some H100s as such too. Rosewill is far too hit and miss to be able to reliably recommend them is why I personally suggest SeaSonic/Corsair. Just hate seeing a lot of money into a system that dies not even 2 years down the line from poor PSU quality. Well that's obviously going to depend on the chip, but I can certainly understand the comfort-level that the 8350 would bring in a higher OC. :) Just one of those, if you're at the absolute budget level the $40 would be better put towards a PSU since the 8320 hits 4.8GHz easily (any more is kinda worthless anyways). Without a budget concern though... -
Well... here it is... My new PC
xcelsior replied to OfficerRaymond's topic in Technology/Programming
Unless you live in a really hot area (Michigan? so likely not), the H100 is not needed. An H80(i) will keep an 8320/50 cool even at 4.9GHz (highest I ever got mine to). Under load at 4.6GHz it never breaks ~ 50c CPU / 40c Cores; Idle it sits ~35c / 15c cores with the fans on dead silent. It's not much, but it's a small savings in price and case room. Can potentially use the savings for the PSU or a WD Black HDD. PSU, I would highly suggest staying away from Rosewill and get either SeaSonic or Corsair. Quality will be far superior and will last longer. If you really wanted to save another ~$40 then the FX-8320 is simply a lower-binned/clocked 8350 which will OC to 8350 levels in 99% of the cases. -
Help! I need to find a graphics card that will let me run DayZ
xcelsior replied to MrMoose7's topic in Technology/Programming
Unlikely, or you were running on such low settings and such a leaned computer only about 1% of players would ever consider it an option. And you would be wrong. You again are wrong. -
AMD Volcanic Island GPU release.
xcelsior replied to OfficerRaymond's topic in Technology/Programming
I know it's one of those things they likely just don't won't to confirm but AMD did mention "We haven’t released pricing and won’t comment on pricing seen on some e-tail outlets." yesterday. So it's always possible the price is wrong...here's to hoping at least, right? Yes, the 780 beats a 7970, though the 7970 still runs amazingly well, especially considering its price anymore ($300). I'm hoping that drops at least $50 in price after the R9 line-up is offically announced so I can get a second one in CrossX. :)
