Character death should carry more weight

Penalizing death is the wrong apporach to this. What you need to do is add some sort of 'character creation' where you need to create a unique character each time you die. Choose what your character looks like, give him a name, a place of birth andwhatnot, you get the picture. If you've spent time creating your character you will get(or at least most people will) emotially attached to your character and through that death becomes a whole new meaning to it. My two cents. -

It's funny that everyone thinks they have the perfect answer for what this game is meant to be like. This is a game free of artificial boundries and the creator himself has said that it is a social experiment(if I recall correctly). You will never find a real solution for this problem without destroying the freedom this game provides at the moment, as the problem lies not within the game but the people who play it. As much as this games tries to simulate a real life enviroment and stituation it will never reach that certain point where you actually have to make moral choices that matter. It is a game and not real life, which is reflected in player behaviour. All those people who call themselves 'Bandits' and shoot on sight, they would never do that in real life(at least 99%of them) because there you have actual consequences and the dilema that when you kill someone they are dead and do not just respawn without equipment. That is just something that you cannot simulate and that is why this will never end. The only way you can fight against this mentality is by being a so called 'Carebear', help those in need and risk being shot and betrayed time and time again. Some people will actually feel sorry for shooting you which can then lead to a subtle change in their behaviour. But this is not a quick solution and will most likely fail as even the nicest people tend to be dicks when they know they're anonymous. tl;dr People suck, especially on the interwebs. Live with it. -

I was thinking about this myself and I kinda support this idea as it makes the Water Bottle a lot more useful than it is right now.

I have yet to loot my own dead body. Mainly because when I die it's either waaay to far away or in a spot I can't get to because it's to dangerous. Also I don't see how your buddies picking up your stuff is a problem, most of the time they don't have the space to carry all of your stuff with them anyhow.

I don't see why any of those weapons should be in the game. In a zombie apocalypse, who'd be running around with military grade weaponry anyway? They should rather add a wider varity of handguns and hunting rifles.

I constanly get spotted from miles away by the odd zombie, which is really annoying when trying to sneak through a town. -
Right, so griefers can just go around lighting towns up, as if the whole wire fencing thing wasn't enough. <.<

I have met a lot of nice people actually. And if I yell 'friendly' over comms, I usually don't get shot right away. If you keep your distance to player hot spots like the major towns and barns your better off and meet less bandits.

Only problem I have with it is the reclaiming of the bolts. I lose a lot of my bolts when I hit Zeds on the torso and not in the head/limbs because they somehow dissapear.

I'm a big fan of the whole 'getting infected' idea and would love to see it implemented. Not sure wether your's is the best way but it's a good start. -
Agree with this but other than that it's already hard enough to get from one end of the map to the other, no need to make it any harder.
