Im not even a noob yet. Any tech heads around?
aussiestig replied to Zephlin's topic in New Player Discussion
Combined Assault? I've never heard of such a thing before. Maybe you should check exactly what version you bought. You might have the right one. It should be called "Combined Operations" or "Operation Arrowhead" As for the graphics. Arma 2 can work really well for some, and not so well for others. If you can play every other PC game out there, you shouldn't have a problem. You will be able to fiddle with your settings once you're in the game to make sure you run it as best as possible. -

Haha, fair enough. Well, first things first. Will your computer run the game? Was the computer you played it at work on your own computer? Because you'll need a fairly decent computer to play this game, even though it's not very graphically intense. You'll need Arma 2: Combined Operations. "Combined Operations" comes with Arma 2, and Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead. Both need to be installed. But considering you've already played it once before, I'm going to assume you already have it, or you have an idea of what you'll need. Next step. The easiest way of installing it will be to download DayZ Commander. You'll need the latest version "Arma 2: 103419" and "DayZ 1.7.6.1". Once that's downloaded, you should be good to go. FrankieonPC plays several different variations of DayZ, all of which can be downloaded separately through DayZ commander. eg. The episodes where he built a house, drove a boatcar, and played as a female stripper, were all on DayZ Origins. probably the 2nd most popular DayZ mod, after the original. -

I'm confused. Are you saying that you're trying to find out if you can play DayZ? -
What should be my next graphics card?
aussiestig replied to ???????????'s topic in Technology/Programming
This just in ladies and gentleman. I had a look on the facebook page for Australians number 1 PC store, and they seem to have leaked the 780 release date Going by nvidia's traditions, it won't be long before the 770 is out, then the 760ti etc. -

aussiestig replied to ???????????'s topic in Technology/Programming
The new 700 nVidia range is on the verge of being released, and there are some rumors that the 780 may even hit the shelves within a week. That will mean 2 things. 1. Obviously there are brand new up to date cards that you know perform well that you can purchase, or 2. The prices for the 600 series cards will drop down by a bit, and you could get more bang for you buck. Just wait a few weeks I guess -
6 New decayed Zeds ? that's against what rocket said
aussiestig replied to ponc's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Except he does. He doesn't do any of the coding, or any of the bug fixing etc. But he gets the final say on what's allowed and what isn't. If there is a feature he doesn't want going into the mod, then it won't be put in. -
Help on building a gaming computer , All help is appreciated.
aussiestig replied to sickshot135's topic in Technology/Programming
I could build that for $680AUD, I don't know where you live, but if it's America, it'd be even less than that. -

I second what King Tubbs has to say. Back when I first built my gaming PC, I went from pretty much no PC experience at all to knowing how to build one completely in less than a week. It's very easy, pretty much like putting together expensive lego The reason we suggest building, is because pre-builts are over priced. You could build a $1500 pre-built PC, for around $1000 in most cases. You save a heap of money -
Is an optical drive worth buying?
aussiestig replied to Blondedash's topic in Technology/Programming
As far as I'm aware, it still comes on the disk, most likely with the option to put a code into their website and download it. With your download speeds, I'd be looking to install it off the disk, as it's a reasonably big download. Optical drives are good to have regardless. It's better spending that $22 on it, and having it there in case you want to play a really old game, or if your school gives you some software/program to put on your computer, than to not have one, and possibly miss out on something. -
Haven't played in ~10 months, can someone fill me in on the major changes?

How to Really Increase FPS?
aussiestig replied to CannedPakes's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What are your specs? Just an i5 isn't really a good indicator as to why you're getting low FPS. -
Ceasefire DayZ Dedicated servers
aussiestig replied to marcspeakman@hotmail.co.uk's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
PvP is an integral part of DayZ, it's what makes the game so unique. Taking it away is like taking half the game away. -
About 1-2 years between every nvidia range.
-
By outdated I mean a new gen will be out, and no one will be selling them anymore. In 2 years there will most certainly be an 800 nvidia series out.
-
Absolutely. It means you don't have to plug half the cables in that you don't need. That means more airflow, and a much cleaner case.
-
"I like to waste money" FTFY In 2 years, even 780's will be outdated, let alone 680's
-
My bad, overclockers don't offer a 450w corsair PSU, so I went to the next closest one, and obvious it's not supported. Doesn't matter as a 500w will most certainly do the trick.
-
I was just pointing it out. Anyway, in an attempt to deviate away from the shitstorm, I'd like to put in my 2 cents about the build. I've discussed low budget builds with some friends recently because we all have some friends we're trying to convince to make the move from PS3 over to PC, but they are under the impression that it costs thousands. As a pointed, I know someone with this exact build, and he's running BF3 on high and ultra settings at 60fps with ease. i5 3470 GTX 660 ASRock B75M mobo 1TB Seagate HDD Corsair 500w Corsair Vengeance 8GB 1600mhz memory Any case for 50 pounds or less. =600 pounds in total. All these were sourced from www.overclockers.co.uk, I've heard they aren't the cheapest in the UK, but they have a great range.

But I did post in that thread...
-
I quoted a post from 4 days ago though
-
No offense, but you're talking to everyone like you own OP, and he isn't allowed to use anyone else's builds. That's a crap CPU, average mobo, tiny HDD, crap ram and a 32 bit OS (lolwut?). 0/10 would not build, not even for my cat. Clutchy's build is fairly nice. Maybe you could throw a small SSD on top of that so he can install his OS and Arma/DayZ on it.

the DayZ enivornment - a round of applause
aussiestig replied to taco241's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Don't forget you can have upwards of 10,000m of view distance in Arma 2, as opposed to about 200m before the blur sets in, in Far Cry 3. Arma 2 isn't as badly optimized as people make it out to be, it just requires different hardware to perform better than most games. Most games these days are almost solely reliant on a good GPU, but Arma 2 is extremely HDD and CPU heavy. It just uses our computers in a different way to how we normally expect. -
I need help building a decent P.C'

The links you posted are both the same :P I thought Boneboys posted a fix for your issue in your thread? It's an IE related problem. -

It's not a competition. I'm sure OP wants variety, so list the parts you think are suitable anyway. -
I need help building a decent P.C'
aussiestig replied to Michaelvoodoo25's topic in Technology/Programming
I've listed every single specific part in so many threads now with links to websites, and I'm bored of it now, so sorry :P Personally, what I'd build is as follows. i5 3570k ASRock Z77 Extreme4 GTX 670 - Gigabyte, EVGA, Asus are all great brands 8gb Corsair Dominator 1866mhz memory - you could go with 16gb if you feel the need, but it's quite expensive Noctua NH-D14 CPU Cooler That's about $900USD. I have no idea where you'd be buying from, so I'd just use that as a reference, and look up the parts from where you'll be buying them from, just to make sure you don't break the bank. I'd encourage others on behalf of Michael to post their builds. That way he'll end up with something perfect.
