Im not even a noob yet. Any tech heads around?
aussiestig replied to Zephlin's topic in New Player Discussion
Haha, fair enough. Well, first things first. Will your computer run the game? Was the computer you played it at work on your own computer? Because you'll need a fairly decent computer to play this game, even though it's not very graphically intense. You'll need Arma 2: Combined Operations. "Combined Operations" comes with Arma 2, and Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead. Both need to be installed. But considering you've already played it once before, I'm going to assume you already have it, or you have an idea of what you'll need. Next step. The easiest way of installing it will be to download DayZ Commander. You'll need the latest version "Arma 2: 103419" and "DayZ 1.7.6.1". Once that's downloaded, you should be good to go. FrankieonPC plays several different variations of DayZ, all of which can be downloaded separately through DayZ commander. eg. The episodes where he built a house, drove a boatcar, and played as a female stripper, were all on DayZ Origins. probably the 2nd most popular DayZ mod, after the original. -

I'm confused. Are you saying that you're trying to find out if you can play DayZ? -
6 New decayed Zeds ? that's against what rocket said
aussiestig replied to ponc's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Except he does. He doesn't do any of the coding, or any of the bug fixing etc. But he gets the final say on what's allowed and what isn't. If there is a feature he doesn't want going into the mod, then it won't be put in. -
Haven't played in ~10 months, can someone fill me in on the major changes?

How to Really Increase FPS?
aussiestig replied to CannedPakes's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What are your specs? Just an i5 isn't really a good indicator as to why you're getting low FPS. -
Ceasefire DayZ Dedicated servers
aussiestig replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
PvP is an integral part of DayZ, it's what makes the game so unique. Taking it away is like taking half the game away. -
the DayZ enivornment - a round of applause
aussiestig replied to taco241's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Don't forget you can have upwards of 10,000m of view distance in Arma 2, as opposed to about 200m before the blur sets in, in Far Cry 3. Arma 2 isn't as badly optimized as people make it out to be, it just requires different hardware to perform better than most games. Most games these days are almost solely reliant on a good GPU, but Arma 2 is extremely HDD and CPU heavy. It just uses our computers in a different way to how we normally expect. -
Jokes on you, I just went to your channel and saw the length of it

Your Dead Island video was 50 minutes long, lets not get nit picky here :)
-
Unwarranted and unwanted advertisement = spam. A funny video on what happened last tuesday when Jim Bob jumped out of his helicopter in Battlefield and sniped someone 3k's away is great. Hour long video's that no one cares about is just annoying. I just find it funny that you dislike people begging for likes/subs, but you just want views.

Am I the only person that really doesn't care for 'base building'?
aussiestig replied to Target Practice (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
How is it shovelled in there? It's basically the core element of DayZ Origins. To get the materials, you need to go to mines, industrial area's, salvation city, and you often need special tools to acquire the materials to build the house. I've seen plenty of people build houses by them selves, it's not any quicker if you have several people, because for ever extra person, you need a crap load more supplies. I'm not sure you've even played it to be honest. Each to their own I guess, I guess I just don't want the SA to turn into the boring shit that is DayZ vanilla. If there continues to be no end game, and no difficult objectives other than killing everyone, you can count me out. -
Since May last year on and off Private exclusively Vanilla, Breaking Point and Origins Yes Yes To answer the title, Public died around October of last year if I remember correctly. Everyone realised there was a whole lot more freedom when hosting a private server, and that there seemed to be far less hackers on them. Pretty ironic coming from the guy who spams his Youtube videos in off-topic

You could be comparing DayZ, and another mission. I'm simply talking about completely stock chernarus in Arma 2 vs Arma 3, not running DayZ, or any other mission.

aussiestig replied to Target Practice (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I used to be like this. Play DayZ Origins, and you'll understand it. It gives you another objective, more end game. It gives you a more permanent place to put your stuff, a place to set up base with your friends. It's really fun collecting materials to build each others houses and stuff. It's not like you walk into a supermarket, find a tent, then pitch it, and that's your base. You need a whole load of things. It takes time and effort. -
Well, I don't know what to say. Everyone I've played with and talk to so far has been getting less frames on Chernarus in Arma 3. Consider yourself lucky :)
-
I'm specifically talking about Chernarus. If the map runs better that Arma 2 at the same view distance on Arma 3, I'd be extremely surprised.
-
If you struggle to run the game on Arma 2, then you'll have a lot more problems with Arma 3. On Chernarus, same view distance, there is about a 10-20fps difference between arma 2 and arma 3. Most likely to do with the new lighting, physics, textures and clouds.

I've played L4D and Source Engine games before, I just don't play them religiously, Mr. VALVe-DNB
-
It only took one guy to get all Arma assets fully working on the Arma 3 engine a few weeks, surely it can't be too much of a challenge for Rocket and his team? I'd love to see the new lighting and such in DayZ SA
-
This looks like a bad version of Warz. I like the look of arma a lot more than this.

The first time you got good gear
aussiestig replied to AfterShave's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I met up with a guy on these forums back in may or june last year. Everything I'd had previously were just enfields and winchestors, and he gave me a spare DMR and NVG's which was amazing. -
Where'd all the bizons go
aussiestig replied to Castle (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Implying it was. Any of the M4's, M16's, M14's, AK's, L85's, G36's, LMG's, MMG's or the FN Fal are better than the Bizon. In fact, the only guns that aren't better than the Bizon are the hand guns and the crossbow. It's like firing wet paper balls at someone. -
What do you guys consider an acceptable ping?
aussiestig replied to warmonger917's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Anything under 300ms ping is fine. Arma has such terrible netcode that your ping really doesn't matter at all. -
Trees ARE a problem...
aussiestig replied to Rick the Survivor's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's not just in heli's. If you're hiding in a tree, from 10m away you are very well concealed, but at 200m, you are extremely obvious. The way Arma renders objects at distance isn't very good, but it's obviously to do with performance. -
I still think instanced bases is the worst thing you could do to Dayz.
aussiestig replied to scaramoosh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Maybe people eventually realised that there is literally no fun end game in vanilla DayZ. Just setting up a sniper isn't fun, you need to be doing something, you need objectives and things to do to keep DayZ interesting, and they need to take time to do. Origins does this perfectly.
