So, I've been playing a while and I don't see how to get better...
Harris (DayZ) replied to VikingBerserker's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
See this guy right above me ^ does not know how to play the game. The whole point of the game is to survive in the fullest. Obviously he does not know how to survive without being a dickhead to everyone else following the "rules" of the game. Back to the actual topic. I do not recommend setting up camp anywhere...ever. This will not travel to other servers and sometimes severs get shut down. Also your asking for a fight; people will hunt for others if they see a camping tent. This can be used to your advantage put a camping tent down to lure someone. Do not put anything in it just the tent and maybe a tank trap or something to make it look like you care. Here is what I personally recommend. Find 1 or 2 people in game or irl that want to play this game with you. Learn the map, learn the tactical side of approaching a popular area, learn the warning signs of server hoppers and other people, and most importantly learn the bugs. Knowing the games bugs can save your life more than once. I have died countless times from entering a building laying down (patched...I think), zombies glitching through walls and killing me in one hit (zombies still glitch through wall no one shot kill anymore). UNDERSTAND YOU WILL DIE AT SOME POINT. NOTHING CAN STOP THIS. ACCEPT IT. CAR TIPS: IF THE CAR WILL TAKE A WHILE TO REPAIR LEAVE IT AND COME BACK LATER. Do not linger at a car, ever. When going to a car spawn just to look for cars, do not linger, if the car is not there leave before you get shot. If you drive somewhere and see zombies while your in the car someone else is there too. If you have to leave your car hide it in the forest and put a tank trap in front of the car and behind it. Only toolboxes can take down tank traps so the chances of it getting stolen are much lower. If leaving your car get the essentials. Be a good sport. I know its hard to get a car, but if someone is able to steal yours or something be a good sport. Understand the risks and accept them. Just be happy for whoever stole your car. -

To get "better" at DayZ you need to learn the map in a way. When you get a map and wander around you start to figure out where good loot spawns are and are able to get better weapons. When you get better weapons you learn the sounds of those weapons. Meaning one, you can avoid certain guns that are extreamly loud (lee enfield), and two, you can figure out others guns and know whether you can run out and fire back or stay behind shelter. Spend some time on a smaller server to get used to the zombie spawn radius. When you figure out how close you have to be for zombies to spawn you can know whether your the one spawning them or if another player is (Server Hoppers, Explorers). Learn this now a lot of players server hop meaning places like NW Airfield will be completly looted though you can go to kill. Its the simple things you need to learn to get "better" once you do that it gets much better. Hope this helps let me know if you have any questions or whatever. -
DayZ should become a stand alone game using a different engine.

DayZ is going to become its own game, but it sounds like they are going to use Arma 2's engine. I think they should use a different engine. Wouldn't you pay for DayZ to have: Performance Increases Better Zombie A.I Better Loot Spawning System (sometimes doesn't spawn when your the only player in a town) Better Graphics Better User Interface More Weapons Better Vehicles and Driving U.I. And less buggy I think that if DayZ were to become a stand alone game they should not use Arma 2's engine. Not only does it have performance issues, but its outdated. Wouldn't you want DayZ to become a better game even at the cost of time of release. Instead of making a mod in several stages make a game with Alpha, Beta, and Final release stages. My ideas on this awesome mod. Please put your input on this idea in the comments whether you agree or not. What would you like DayZ to use as an engine and why. RV4 (ArmA 3 engine) RV3 (ArmA 2 engine) CryEngine3 (Aion, Crysis 3, etc.) Unreal Engine 3 or 4 (depends on when 4 releases) List any other engines you think should use and why. -

When he said minecraft type he meant in the releasing of the game. Minecraft was released in Alpha, Beta, Full (I know there were ones before that just an example), and continues to be added to. That is what Rocket is talking about. -

CryEngine 3 is capable of amazing graphics with excellent performance (compared to other games ex: ArmA / ArmA 2). If Rocket is going to make DayZ a standalone game without B.I he will most likely not be able to use the same map. Even if he is should he? DayZ should not follow behind ArmA at all it should grow, expand, take shape into something even better. Yes the idea of DayZ would not of happened if not a mod for ArmA 2, but ArmA 2 uses a bad engine. You can say its the best because of the realism and all of that but look at other engines. They are capable of the same or better realism without the bugs, lag, and with the bonus of better graphics. I am not saying DayZ should look as good as Crysis 2. I am saying that it should use something that can increase the player base while bringing major increases to various aspects of the game. Virtual Reality Engine is the most realistic engine out there. False It is outdated, buggy, slow, graphically terrible, etc. Every engine can do better than this one. BUT IT DOESN'T HAVE BULLET DROP. Oh no bullet drop isn't in other engines? It can be added. Any engine can be expanded into what the developer wants. Come on guys. Imagine a better zombie game. A full survival world. PvP is nice but that is all DayZ is right now. It could grow and make the zombies better while also making PvP better. Rocket wouldn't be limited he could let his mind create a better game than DayZ. Being able to have a proper apocalyptic world with ruins, more loot, more exploring, everything you could ever want. For Rocket to start fresh with a new engine would take time, but this is a game everyone loves the idea of this game is undeniable the best. Does ArmA's engine make it happen? Yes. Again it could be expanded into something more. That's the big picture. Taking this idea and expanding on it. Making it the best. -

Yes, RV is a good engine. Though I do believe there are certain aspects that he could improve on and expand in another engine. If he decides to use RV hopefully he uses version 4 and hopefully that version is a lot better than version 3. -

If Real Virtuality Engine 4 is an overall better engine and is not majorly bugged then yes maybe they should use that. All we can do is hope they would get full access to the engine though... -

"Rocket" has announced that he wants to make DayZ a stand alone game. What would you like to see added to this amazing mod if it were to become its own? Please give a general name for the idea and write a quick sentence explaining what it would do. Example: Jetpacks - We could fly around killing zombies and light then on fire with jetpacks. It would be awesome. ======================================================== || Please Ignore this example its just...well and example... || ======================================================== -

I would just like to thank everyone for giving your feedback. I would also like to appologize if I have been rude to anyone. In my honest opinion I do not like ArmA and I have been told by many people that it is not a good game. This is our opinion which is what this topic is about. Opinions. I have learned that the ArmA engine has more than what I though, I would love to see this mod on a different engine but all we can hope for is that ArmA is a better game with a better engine. Also if I offended you in anyway trash talking ArmA like an ignorant moron I appologize. Again this is just my opinion and I did not mean to bad mouth any of yours. Back to the engine though. I love the survival aspect in DayZ and I love the size of the map. I know a good amount of knowledge of engines and so far other than the ArmA engine no map has been as big. This is fact. Although we do not know for sure if another engine can or cannot handle a map that big. I would like to see DayZ have a bigger map that is able to be more realistic with extra buildings go into sed map. If Real Virtuality Engine 4 is able to do some of the things I have talked about and BI allows DayZ Devs to have all the resources they need (full access to the engine) it could be an amazing game on the new engine. I just hope they use version 4 though... -

This is the thing though you do not need things going on in a game like DayZ. Sure good for ArmA that they can render a tin can that no one needs, but in DayZ there are a lot of people who can get 60+ fps on max settings and maybe 20-30 on ArmA with/without the mod. -

To xero. I am making ignorant statements? The game is HATED by a large amount of the gaming community. When I asked people and looked it up arma got very bad reviews. Have we seen anything on another engine like chenarus, no, because it has not been needed run through 18 miles of forest to get to one location.....this would not be to heavy on any engine considering there's not that much to render other than trees........oh and maybe a building in the forest that is pointless because you cannot enter it.... -

Oh yeah I spent money on 5 different versions of the exact same game....because I am just that smart. Also a lot of people didn't even know ArmA existed until dayz. A lot of people don't want to buy ArmA just for dayz either (because they know they won't play the actual game....) Oh and yes they created the most amazing game ...that no ones ever heard or cared about.... -

It is kinda funny how some people read what they want to read in comments and posts. I am saying overall the game would be a more enjoyable experience if it had updated graphics, better performance, better A.I, better GUI, better pathfinding, etc. Which is what you get with a updated engine. Thanks for reading only graphics though........ -

Harris (DayZ) replied to Harris (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I will agree that ArmA's engine does have a lot of what DayZ needs and what makes the mod fun, but I do think that if you were to use something like CE3 it could expand and become even more. The survival in ArmA's engine is good, but there are so many flaws that its a little annoying. I would like to see DayZ grow as its own game on a different engine where it could fully make the game unique instead of following a lot from ArmA. The main part of DayZ for people is the size of the map. If it becomes its own game I think it should have various maps with ever building open to people and a overall better experience. If it was on a different engine with updated graphics you could be able to enjoy the maps realism even more. I think the game would excel more if it used something else. Would it keep the same survival aspects on a different engine, of course, with the added benefit of updated graphics, better performance, increased A.I, improved GUI, etc. -

This talk is not pointless at all. It does not matter to me what engine DayZ will be made with I just wanted to have the community say what they think. Yes it will most likely be made with Real virtuality engine 4, but that doesn't mean we can't talk about if that would be mistake or not. Honestly I never thought this post would get so many replies and I am happy to see that the community has taken a interest in the matter. -

Actually Rocket made a topic of how people would like to pay if it were a stand alone game. Kickstarter could get the off the ground almost immediately if they offered the things I stated before. -

Harris (DayZ) replied to Harris (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Listen I know it would be very difficult for Rocket and the team to make it on a different engine starting from scratch. All I was saying is how much better the game could be on another engine. Also mercator the fact of the matter is ArmA is one of the most hated fps games out there so I am really happy that you have been playing for years, but its just not that popular for MOST people. -

Actually no I cannot stand call of duty. I've made it across the entire map. Survived NW airfield 5 times. Had a car full of weapons. Had a m249, fn fal, fn fal night vision, etc. We are not talking about how easy or hard the game engine is we are talking about what would best benefit the idea of the game. So before you open your ignorant little mouth of yours why don't you actually read the topic and think a little before saying anything. -

It is a failing series the only reason people have bought or even heard of ArmA is because DayZ. Most people don't like ArmA at all and just get it for DayZ. Yes I know it will most likely be on Arma 3's engine, but I was just talking about what it would be better on. -
DayZ should become a stand alone game using a different engine.
Harris (DayZ) replied to Harris (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Like I have said before ArmA is a failing series and why would you want to linger in such failure when creating a brand new game. I can tell you right now that a lot of people do not like the graphics or the performance of ArmA which comes directly from its engine. CryEngine 3 has everything DayZ would need and more and what it does not have can be added. DayZ could be one hell of a game without the failure of ArmA on its shoulder all the time. -
DayZ should become a stand alone game using a different engine.
Harris (DayZ) replied to Harris (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
DayZ has been the best zombie game because of ArmA's engine you are correct. What I am saying is that they take some of the survival aspects and stuff from ArmA and make it better in a new engine. Could you imagine DayZ a 100% polished full game with the same survival aspects, but with the developers twist on it. All I am saying is yes DayZ is great for ArmA, but it would be even better if it took some of the survival experiences and expanded on it in the way the developers wanted. I agree with you, but at the same time I would like to see what the devs could create with a new engine. -

Harris (DayZ) replied to Harris (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
He is right currently a lot of people with the best computers money can buy still cannot play because of performance issues. These issues come because it's a alpha mod and because of ArmA's engine. -

Harris (DayZ) replied to Harris (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Fixing an entirely broken game is going to be easier than making one with a new engine that not only performs better but has better quality. Real Virtuality Engine 3 is not a good engine they could so much better. I am just saying why use something that failed for your game. If they wanted to be able to make the game better make it look amazing and change the mechanics to fit with a game like this they should not use ArmA's engine. I know it would take a while and I know it would be work it is just an idea because why in gods name would you follow a failing series while making a stand alone game instead of making it your own.
