Zombies (or infected if you like) just don't quite cut it currently. 1.7.1.5 had the perfect detection range for zombies but they still needed to be more of a threat. Now I am assuming due to limitations in the game the only way to make them more dangerous was to let them see farther straight ahead.. so now we get these goofy zombies spotting you half way across town and running at you while zombies 20 feet from you don't seem to care.. feels glitchy rather than scary... so now rather than sneaking around you just run, gather up the zombies run into an building or barn and out the other side.. zombies are a joke now and there is no incentive to sneak around since one will see you in the glitchy manner described above. If possible now or down the road I would love to see the detection return to 1.7.1.5 levels but when you do get caught by a zombie by carelessness it should be a bigger deal... the one zombie should alert all zombies within a range to create a feeding frenzy directed at you! Also I would like to see zombies try and work together to flank you in buildings or where they think you are, ect like I know the AI does in Arma 2. Thanks to Rocket for putting together this amazing mod and I can't wait to see what you throw at us next....

Yes I agree, playing at night has become my choice these days. Odd that in a horror game you feel safer at night...lol -

I think its nice you have shared your story and even stated your not looking for sympathy or to get unbanned but to tell a lesson to those that might be tempted to cheat. Your story also applies to other things like stealing, selling drugs, ect.. once you get on the path it seems so easy so you do it more till you hit the wall at the end. We had a player in our Clan in America's Army and we caught him cheating because he wanted to be as good as the better players in the clan. He was a heck of a nice guy but that is not something we take lightly and nice guy or not we had to boot him because that is just a line you do not cross in online communities. Play a game to have fun and if you ever find yourself needing or wanting to cheat then you need to quit playing because it is no longer is a game to you but some sort of e-peen obsession. -
Third person vs First person view

+1 for Idiocy I have no idea how this guy thinks getting gear is easier on a 3rd enabled server. Regular servers have name tags, thats a bandits dream to find and range enemy. Camping the high level loot locations is not harder with 3rd enabled if anything its easier, so once again fail argument as you will die to sniper fire just the same. If anything could be argued is how the folks can get loot easier on on Expert servers as there is no crosshairs, camping with 3d and no nametages so its harder for people to find and hit you... I know if I were a bandit what servers I would camp on..... -
Server Difficulty and Player Behavior Question.

So for those that have some decent playing time on all the server types my question is do the different server types pull in a different type of player? It might make sense to me that the griefing COD kiddie type players would stay away from servers that didn't have crosshairs, 3d, and nametages but I might be wrong. Do people in Expert servers feel there is more co-operation or the same amount as a regular server? I would like to hear some opinions on it. What about Veteran servers? is turning off crosshairs but keeping 3d better or worse than a regular server for player co-operation? Do you think players of certian age ranges gravitate to certian types of servers? -

I have had a few times where people were kind and helpful. Yes I have been shot a lot too...lol Recently I came around a corner and only had a crowbar and two guys were in a hallway and shot me in the leg and I crawled back into the room. They wanted to talk and see if I was friendly and they fixed me up. We chatted a bit they got me a transfusion and a weapon and we ran around the 3 of us for an hour looking for gear. We even ran into a player that shot at us and we as a group returned fire and eliminated the threat.. so yes it can happen and it was a lot of fun. -

I agree, Cheating in a game because obviously you are totally incompetent as a player shows a serious issue in your character as a person. There is no glory in cheating. -
I may have underestimated the difficulty of this game

Use big enterable buildings to shake off any zombies as they can not run in buildings. You can round them up in an area and go in one side and just walk out the other and explore for gear as the zombies get lost in the building you kited them too. -
Head north away from the coast and the big cities on the coast. Once your inland your encounters with players will drop dramaticly and you can "learn the game". Friendly player encounters are few and rare because most of the players seem to feel that in a crisis your first instinct is to shoot and hunt fellow human beings rather than team up or they see this as a giant deathmatch game...lol

As long as they are not Armored vehicicles why not. I don't mind a large noisy target as long as I can shoot at it and do damage with small arms.

I know I heard Rocket say that he was looking into creating Instances for player bases and such. Does anyone know the capabilities for Arma 2 for Instances? I love the PVP world of Dayz and the struggle it is to get gear but I see a lot of people saying that once they get geared up there isn't really much to do with it except go hunt other players. I have also heard that some people would like some sort of "End Game" especially if this becomes a stand alone game. I think instanced zombie encounters could be amazing, solo or group settings and would allow the programmers to get the load off the main server and really do some amazing things with the zombies or whatever scenario the devs want to invent. Would also give groups working together a goal and the ability to add unique loot. Before the COD kiddies say "go back to wow" I am thinking more of the encounters you would run into in Eve Online. In Eve someone could sneak into your instance and ruin your day... so totally inline with Dayz.

I would think instancing would be possible if Rocket said they were looking into it for underground bases.. Does anyone know what the possiblities are that have some gaming programming background?

Third person vs First person view
Yarrick68 (DayZ) replied to Rising (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Argument aside about what is better and realistic here is my main question. Why would someone like the OP start a thread and complain about something like 3rd person when there are plenty of 1st person only servers?... I don't get that. Is there something wrong wth people like the OP that do not understand that? Does this person buy a Toyota and then go hang out at the Chevy dealership compaining that everone is not buying a Toyota? Seriously... -
You can have seemless instancing in games and not have loading screens. Quit thinking of WOW.
-
I am not saying turn this into WOW MMO instancing and I am sure rocket did not intend that either in his comments. Maybe you have not played Eve Online or understand what you can do with instancing since you might only be familiar with WOW or some other run of the mill MMO. You can have instancing and still have a sandbox game. The instancing allows you to take load work off the server and do more things. All you negative nancy's out there need to think more about the possibilities rather than what you have seen done before in whatever game you played last week...lol

Can you get into non-dayz servers like an Arma Domination map? That would tell you if its a mod or game issue.
-
Remember that Arma 2 is a 3 year old game so as long as you have a core duo or better processor from 3 years ago and a decent graphics card from about that time (like a GTX 260 or better) then you should be fine. Now if Dayz moves to Arma 3 then you might want to upgrade at that point to something better but I keep hearing that could be a year or so away and at this point I have seen new GTX 570's selling on newegg for under 250.00 so can you imagine what those will cost used a year from now, about nothing.

will dayz work well on my non gaming laptop?
Yarrick68 (DayZ) replied to iwhiteywood's topic in New Player Discussion
If you have to use a laptop then consider getting an older Asus G73jh. They had the best video card for a laptop 2 years ago and an i7 processor and mine runs Arma 2 with no issues. I have seen them on ebay in the 600.00 range. But for 600.00 you could build a pretty good gaming desktop at this point. -
Does anyone know exactly what mechanic was modified with the new zombies? For instance, I seem to be able to crouch slow in town with zombies all around like before and then one zombie from what seems half way across the map freaks out at random and runs twards me. The closest zombies are still like "Meh" and unless you have a crossbow or silenced weapon things are about to get interesting. I guess what I am saying is I don't understand the mechanic nor the point of it. I like the moving slow and carefully through a town and how you have to watch the patterns of other zombies all around you or you will agro a bunch, its like a huge nervous game of "Don't break the Ice". Also there is the helpless feeling you get knowing your in a compromised position if a sniper takes a shot at you while in the middle of this mess. If the point was to eliminate the scary stealth part of the game and just have us go into town to shoot it up all COD style and clear zombies then it was a success, but I hope that was not the intention.

1.7.2 Zombie behavior question
Yarrick68 (DayZ) replied to Yarrick68 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Honestly at this point this has just turned into a "train zombies, go into barn or warehouse or some houses and shoot them all" game. I hope this is not the new norm for the zombies, but if it is then I guess we have to adjust our gameplay to "moar shooting"...lol -
So your a new player and need a weapon? Read this.
Yarrick68 (DayZ) posted a topic in New Player Discussion
Ok... so I constantly read how hard it is to find a weapon when you start the game. This is only because your looking in the wrong places. Each time I restart a character I have a weapon if not a firearm within about 5-10 minutes. So where do you get them? First, try and look for buildings with several spawn locations. Generally any building you can enter will have several loot spawn locations and will up your loot chance for a weapon a considerable amount. Second, Industrial buildings tend to be terrible for weapons, If you see tires, scrap metal, windshild glass, ect those buildings "usually" don't have weapons. Hospitals are not weapon friendly either. Third, Barns are usually really good places to find weapons. Pistols, hatchets, shotguns, hunting rifles, crossbows are found quite frequently in these places. I have even found an AK in a barn before. Fourth, Supermarkets. Yes they can be dangerous to get to but they are a good source for weapons, not to mention tons of basic supplies. Apartment buildings are also very similar in danger and goods. These also tend to be some of the better places to find an upgraded backpack. Lastly, You can just try and hit the single spawn locations like doorways, small sheds, outhouses, ect.. but with a single spawn your chances are down quite a bit to find a weapon as its a simple matter of odds. You want to see as many loot spawns you can in a short period of time. Military sites if your ballsy, and don't forget to grab a can or bottle to distract zombies that might be IN a building you need to get into. Hope this helps a bit. ......I forgot to mention Deerstands....since you start on the coast there are not a lot of these to find but if you go inland these can also be a great source of weapons. Also ruins can be a great place to get some starting gear including weapons, Rog Por usually does not let me down just northeast of Elektro. -

Barns are very good because if there is a weapon you can grab it while they are going slow and if there isnt a weapon hopefully you can make an escape. -

First you need to find some food, like baked beans or sardines. Once its in your inventory "G" brings up your inventory, then right click on the food item and it should give you an option to eat. Drinking is the same thing.
