Difference: Pristine VS Worn Baseball Cap
talkingcactus replied to (TMW) Marion Mic's topic in Gallery
There are several baseball caps, I can confirm this. No pics sorry. Go look for yourself. -
I found one a couple weeks ago. It's called a "Press vest". Designed to protect the press from stabs and small arms fire. It's blue and says PRESS in white on it.

Anyone found a machete yet?

That's a crowbar phasing into the floor... And it was a picture taken 7 months ago. Please stop lying. ( http://imgur.com/r/dayz/hs2nU ) -
Will you shoot me in my Ghillie?
talkingcactus replied to victusmortuus's topic in New Player Discussion
Just hide. You'd be surprised how invisible you are when wearing that. -
corrupted data #3 error is it cheat ?
talkingcactus replied to dgeesio's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
My brother just got this like 5 seconds ago and we're not cheating. So it definitely can happen to legitimate players. -
I can't zoom out 3rd person and toggle it with my snipers?
talkingcactus replied to hpmon's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
This is because the gun your using is either very powerful or very large. In which case the gun is meant to be very intrusive on your screen, thus you cannot double tap - to get a better field of view or to make the gun smaller. This happens with guns like: l85 AWS, AS50, DMR, etc. Hope this helped. -
Good to know, thanks!

So if I were to build a custom map, like Lingor Island, and lets say: hooray it works blah blah fun times. Then the standalone comes out... Would the map made on Visitor 3 and the other tools provided by BIS work on the mod as well as on standalone in the future. I know the engine is different slightly so knowing this would save me the worry of making this project over such and such time and not being able to use it in the standalone too. Also any help with making such map would be appreciated. I was going to go with a mountainous region somewhere in North America. Definitely pine forest engulfed rolling mountains, just where would I base it on is the questions (actual location to base geography on since my imagination is quite limited)? This is ambitious and would first just like to know if this is even going to be possible to work in the standalone. Don't hassle me too much if this never gets released in your lifetime.

I fully agree with trashing the gamma and brightness sliders. -
M107/AS50 and Skill; do they go with one another?
talkingcactus replied to Obsolescence's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Everyone hates on the AS50 until it's them behind one. But I agree this duplicating and hacking is making them a little too common. I did manage to find an M107 and an Mk48 in one barracks (then lost them because of glitchy tents). And that was my first gun that shoots something bigger than a 7.62. A week or so later i come on a campsite with 6+ AS50's in 2 tents, including some SVD Camo's. Now they could either have been legit and worked hard for to find. Or they were easily hacked in/duplicated. I think we all know the answer. -
During your first 8 or so hours playing Day Z I'm sure many of you simply walked from town to town expecting a surprise of some kind to find you. You also probably watched many streams and videos where people tell you to "Stay out of Cherno and Elektro". So you did. This would ultimately be your downfall in some cases, whether it was apparent or not. The choice to stay out of towns because you're paranoid of snipers was probably controlling where you went. If you didn't have someone to play with during this time then you were probably trying to get your friends in on DayZ around your 10 hour mark. A friend is all you need when playing to make this a more enjoyable experience. Now at this point you may have just ran into plenty of high-loot areas like airfields and what not without a worry in your mind of other players or snipers. This is where you're going wrong. The first time that someone pulls the trigger 700km away with an AS50 without you knowing until it's too late. That's the time you play more tactically, more anxious about other players when turning that corner into a hangar in the airfield, when walking the stairs in the control tower, or opening those doors on the barracks. You start to slow down. This is when you may get tired of dying with all your gear you and your friend(s) have collected over hours of gameplay. You start to think of ways to horde items, to get an easy start when you respawn on those shores. To have some backup beans somewhere where nobody else will find it. 20-30 hours in.This is where this game starts turning toward an MMO more than an FPS. Playing tactically is a NECESSITY, and you've saved yourself by looting with caution. Then suddenly over the course of a week, you may have 5 or more tents in a location, guns, beans, ammo, blood bags, morphine. etc. stashed in each one. But there's one problem some face. Getting to your tents can take a while. 5-10 minutes from the nearest town usually. You need a ride, an ATV, pickup truck, GAZ, UAZ, a bus even. This can sometimes be the longest step in being self-sustainable and battle-ready between lives. In my opinion the best vehicle you can acquire is the bike, it self-repairs, never needs gas, and can get you from Cherno to the NW airfield in 20 minutes or less. Although it carries no gear which can be a downside. At this point the game is like an MMO ina way. It's like you're gearing up at your camp to fight a boss to get the best loot in the game. bring only what you need to get you there and back safely. This means having plenty of space to store your precious loot in your pack. If your camp is far away from these high-activity areas (which it should) then you need enough food at your camp to feed you each and every time you come back to it. So my question to you all, do you have a camp set up? Is it just you alone, or with other people/ your clan? Have you ever been raided? Do you have a vehicle to transport items? Are you more towards banditry or survival? Where do you loot, and how do you get there/back? Please no server names (ex: US_####, UK_####). Include the general location (ex: north-western corner in the woods). How much loot have you got stashed in your tents? My camp is around the western edge of Chernarus, we routinely take bikes to the NW airfield and loot the barracks and tower (sometimes the hangars too). We consist of 4 people and we have 5 tents. We have weapons ranging from Winchesters to an M107. We shoot anyone near our camp and if we see them while looting military items.

PLEASE. bring the starting gun back for use new players.

So I've read through a lot of responses and frankly, a lot of them are making fun of you and aren't helpful at all. I'll start off with how I started this game. When I joined DayZ it was early June and we still started with a Makarov pistol and six magazines i believe it was. That was great and all but gave you a sense that guns must be very easy to find since you had one when you started. This was not the case and the same with you, I became frustrated when almost none of the buildings I was finding even had a way in. The first day was rough and I went through many lives. I'm sure you can relate to this somehow. Now if you want a start, look through a couple of these beginners guides on YouTube: http://www.youtube.c...1ac.dw4E2LefBsE Basically they'll run you through your basic mechanics, best spots to look. What to do when you first spawn in, etc. They also may talk about a map of some sorts. You can find it here: http://dayzdb.com/map#3.077.096 Some of the guides may be out-dated so be prepared to improvise if what they say is no longer the case. This game is updated a lot and things get broken, fixed, added, and removed with ever new update. Also when you spawn in, look in the bottom right of your screen it will say something like: Chernarus (location) Day 0 Your location is listed there. Also you can look for road signs that tell you the names of nearby cities if you miss the brief message. They will be in Russian though so check the online map (again http://dayzdb.com/map#3.077.096 ), it will list the English translation to the city's name above the names of them. Hope this helped, and don't give up hope! This game takes a LOT of time to get the hang of!
