Machinima live stream w/ Rocket going right now!

Rocket was only in the stream for the first 10 minutes or so....
  2. It won't completely solve the problem and I'm sure you'll have the people who get a hero skin just to deceive others, but I think it will go a long ways to lessen the kill on sight mentality. Maybe it promotes some dialog between players at a minimum, where before it would have just been kos to not take the chance?
  3. Rocket doing a Q&A with Machinima right now. He definately did say that he wants to TEST bringing back the Bandit skin as well as introducing a "hero" skin.

    Hacked weapons and Keeping them

Vipeax advised you what to do, but didn't he also say that you wouldn't be banned for having the weapon? Obviously the "right" thing to do is what he advised, but people running around on the forums acting like the DayZ police force, spouting unofficial law, are annoying to me... (I'm not saying this is you, btw)

tent city location on US 1051

Stop spreading misinformation. It has been said multiple times, from official DayZ people, that you will not get "banned" or whatever for USING hacked in weapons. They obviously frown upon it... but they are after the hackers.

    Ghillie Suit bugs

Ghillie suits still bugged (or randomly buggy at best). I equiped one on the 22nd, and then wore it for 2-3 hours before logging out. Didn't play the next day at all, then logging in on the 24th I was back on the completey opposite side of the map and the weapons and other gear I had found during that time were also all gone. My brothers whom I had been playing with last on the 22nd were in the correct spot with the gear they acquired in those 2-3 hours we played... I couldn't figure out what was going on at first and the server we were playing on didn't have player location on the map, but by playing around with way points I determined where I was and it just so happend to be where I found and equiped the ghille... I have another one now, but I'm afraid to put it on...

    Can't search gutted animal

This happened to me a couple times yesterday, but I was also successful in getting meat from animals. Out of approximately 6 animals I was not able to get meat from 2... the difference between them? The 2 I couldn't get meat from where stationary. The other 4 that worked correctly were walking around normally. Obvioulsy 6 is a small sample size, but you might see if you can find an animal that is moving?

    Ghillie suit problem?

What happened: Sunday evening, playing with my two brothers, we found a vehicle. From inside the vehicle I looted two ghillie suits and an svd camo. I immediately put on one of the ghillie suits and dropped my civilian clothes and looted a couple other misc. items. We continued to play for roughly 2 hours (~10:30 PM - 01:30 AM PST) moving over 10,000 m away from the truck and logging out near Khelm. Did not play Monday. When logging in on Tuesday evening (~10:45 PM PST) my character was back in the location in which we found/looted the truck but without any of the looted gear. My brothers logged in successfully near Khelm. Where you were: NW corner of the map near the end of the road going North. East side of the road in some woods. What you were doing: Looting white pickup truck, equiping ghillie suit. Normal game play. Current installed version: DayZ 1.7.2.3 / Beta 95208 (not 100% sure on Beta# - new Beta patch was installed today - after problem discovered) Server(s) you were on: DayZ - Seattle 123 Your system specs: Intel i7 870 8 GB RAM Nvidia GeForce GTX 470 Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 ArmA II and OA installed via Steam DayZ installed/updated via Six Updater/Launcher Timeline of events before/after error: (see above) Only other thing weird that I noticed was that I had received a Steam popup saying it had updated ArmA II - OA before I logged in to play tonight.

    Zombie spawn distance?

I did a quick search but didn't find the relevant information... How far out from cities, deer stands, etc. does the game recognize players and start spawning zombies? I've been a ways out from cities before, looking in with binoculars, sometimes I see zombies sometimes I don't and I can make assumptions about whether they are my zombies or not, but I figured I'd ask to see if anyone has tested this and knows the approximate distance. Thanks!
  10. Bough the Combined Operations pack on Steam specifically for DayZ after hearing my brother talk about it and watching some videos. I know three other people that have done the same. This game has a lot of potential and I'm surprised nobody has done anything like this yet. I hope they get some major funding and can really put some time into this mod or create it's own game based off the same idea. For being in "alpha" it sure is a blast and I hope they can make it better!

    Loot Spawning

Loot spawning seems to be different per server, at least in my experience. Maybe it is that the server is badly in need of a reboot/resync, but I've been on a server that it seemed no loot was respawning - I visited probably 30+ loot spawns in different locations multiple times and each time everything was exactly the same... Kind of hard to explain, but it seems like there can be server side issues with spawns. I've noticed playing on servers that are rebooted more often the loot seems to be better (not quality) but just being able to find stuff in general and not empty or garbage.

can you retreive your own body?

I too did this yesterday and got lost getting back to my body, so it probably took me well over an hour, but my body was still there, as were many of my items not taken by the killer!
  13. Currently I play with my two brothers as a 3 man... we are all pretty new but have done alright for ourselves thus far. I'm not sure what we really want to do (clan, small group, etc.) but I figured I'd ask around here to see what was happening. We usually play late nights ~9PM to ~1AM. We generally consider ourselves survivors but won't hesitate to shoot if we are desperate for something. I don't know if the game has got to this point or maturity (not sure if that's the right word) but I think it would be a lot of fun to join a clan on a big server and fight with other clans for territory. Anyways, like I said not sure what we will do in the long run, but I wanted to see what others were doing!

Any Seattle (NW) based late night teams?

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and steam ids. I'll talk to my brothers tonight and see what they think.

    Lee Enfield or Winchester ?

I prefer the lee enfield myself. It is loud but if you're careful I think it's the better gun because of the range. I've made some pretty amazing shots with that rifle (imo :P)

Buying Private Military Company DLC for Day Z?

Two DLCs for a couple skins? I like hi-res too, but not sure this is worth it? Anyone know roughly how many skins/textures are updated by the DLC? Are they all player skins?

    Backpack in a backpack?

lol - sad I know what you are talking about...

A Word on "Shoot on Sight"

I think that hearing someone's voice does make the encounter a little more "human". Unfortunately, I also think that just a couple of bad experiences (being murdered) is enough for a lot of people to just say "I'm not taking the chance". Some other big influences, imo: do both people have weapons? How much do you have to lose (supplies)? If ive almost collected everything I think I need to get out of the starting area and come across someone with a weapon, do I risk trying to talk to them and getting shot...? To _me_ these experiences are what makes the game so fun :)

    Bandit/Survivor Morphing to be removed

I don't really know if I'm for or against the bandit skins but I just wanted to share an experience that I think is relevant here (kinda). I hope it wasn't brought up previously as I did not read this whole thread. I started my "online" gaming with UO (Ultima Online) a few years before the whole Trammel world (safe zone...) and when I first started playing this game and heard about the bandit skin, my first thought was Murderers in UO. This game also made me flash-back to my UO days with the risk of dieing being so great. It is something that I have missed ever since I stopped playing UO many years ago and until DayZ I hadn't played another game that gave me the same rush. Anyways... Murderers in UO seemed to work very well. People knew at first sight you were a bad guy, but it didn't stop interaction between regulars and Murderers to some extent. There were groups of people that role-played as Murderers and there were also "good guys" that hunted Murderers. The Murderer system in UO is a little more complex than I am describing here and perhaps a bit too harsh but it made you think about becoming one. I'm not saying we need this type of a system but I just wanted to share for conversations sake. DayZ is a lot more brutal in that one accurate shot and you're dead, where as in UO it wasn't quite so easy to die, so that is a pretty big difference, but in both games death was pretty bad in that you usually lost everything. If we had some sort of system in place (visual or otherwise) I think it would promote others to maybe think more about whether to shoot first or to try to communicate... or maybe not. I still debate it ALMOST every time I see someone but I think a lot of people have a couple of bad experiences with players murdering them and are no longer taking a chance. Which, in my opinion, just spreads the "shoot first" mentality even more.
