  1. Yeah, agree with OP. Last six deaths - Everyone falls from the sky Screen turns white everyone dies Screen turns white everyone dies Dude materializes behind me with a gun not in day z. *Dude kills me with an axe while blinded by artifacts (not a hack, I was actually happy to die like this, heh) Get shot by a dude who appears behind me, unload an entire AKM mag on him with no apparant damage, head shots me while reloading More hack deaths in three days than in the past five weeks prior.

    Fun with Scripting

You need some vigilante slogan to say every time you teleport and put a bullet in the back of their heads.

    Not so shining female pants

They'd tan pretty fast if you never wore pants.
  4. Turn on the flash light briefly. See if zombies are in a 45 degree cone ahead of you. Turn off flashlight and run/walk/crouch/whatever as appropriate. Biggest dangers are NVGs and running from zombies but not realizing you're running against a chain link fence. Still not sure how to hunt very effectively at night and I'd rather get shot than leave a city without a map.
  5. My post was in response to an earlier poster insinuating that any other business model, asides one producing one product or catering to one market, was foolish. Your explanation seems to agree with my response. So, I'm not sure how that's me not thinking (or typing, whatever). If anything, I'm guilty of not quoting (and there look to be a lot of edits back here).
  6. Oh man. Old school communist propaganda (or current) gogogogo.
  7. The more I think about it, the more I feel a lot of these issues stem from the hive and being able to jump servers. When people can't jump ship all the time, reputations (good or bad) develop, people develop in game friendships and rivalries, repercussions follow your actions, and cooperating (be it to hunt players down or just work together) don't require meta-gaming. The process of all those above happening is fun and community building. You don't need incentives to group together or penalties for PvPing like people are suggesting, players will do it naturally.
  8. No, but the comparison to it does to a degree.. A sandbox.
  9. Lol at the comments about smart businesses only sticking to one thing. A lot of the most successful business, Walmart, Target, etc. are successful because a customer can come to their store, and do all of their shopping in one stop.
  10. Interesting post. People saying they'd only deathmatch to the bitter end in this kind of world. You don't realize with how scarce resources would be, including bullets. If you devoted every bullet to killing a player, with how rare ammo is, you'd run out faster than you replenish it. Especially a sniper rifle if most people who have a gun are sporting something low tech. Then those players who put some thought into pulling the trigger or not everytime they came across someone would have an easy time shooting you. You'd probably starve on top of that. This wouldn't change if you were grouped either, as you split most resources from a player kill, except food, two + ways. You could still kill whoever - but you'd think long and hard about it - because it would be a large gamble. I'm not necessarily saying I endorse this. Just pointing out a point/conclusion that a lot of folks seem to be missing. To be honest, I don't think many gamers these days (I feel so old saying this) have the capacity to play a game where you are forced to cooperate. Too spoiled. I'm not sure lone wolves should be punished so severely, either. This is the "anti-game" though.

    No Respawn button now? /sigh

Unless I am misunderstanding some mechanic here, this actually may make server load, drain, or whatever you call it, worse. Now instead of just hitting respawn the server has to devote resources to spawning zombies for you to die to in addition to making a new character. Also, if the hive records death data, this is going to distort it. The number of people dieing to zombies in order to respawn is going to distort Rocket's information regarding how dangerous zombies are.
  12. Actually, high end military (and space) technology was one of the few things the soviet union was pretty good at making. Just bankroll the military and tell military scientists that if they don't do a good job they'll be shot or sent to siberia.
  13. Would be nice when we first spawn if we could pick more than one outfit (torn suit, t-shirt and jeans, etc.) just for the sake of spoting our friends who've also just spawned. Nothing providing a tactical advantage like camo, ghille. Multiple skins/clothing can of course still be found in the game, just a little starting variety so everyone doesn't look the same (asides some facial variation).

    Starting clothing

I'm just talking a handful of outfits, say 3-5. There can still be tons (10,20, the skys the limit!) of other clothes for you to find. Everyone looks like a clone when they spawn.

Day Z is soon to be dead

You, and many people posting about War Z, must not be very familiar with mmorpg history. There are roughly 50 mmorpgs which have been released in the last 15 years. By my estimations, around only five or six of them have not proceeded to crash in burn shortly after release, loosing the bulk of their subscriber base, consolitating their servers, and then died a slow death over the next few years or at best retained only a small, core player base. I really don't know if this is a profitable model, somehow, or developers are just willing to gamble on a big WoW (and prior to that, EQ) payoff. Whatever the case, the odds are against War Z. Star Wars The Old Republic is a good example of this presently taking place. 1.7 million players at launch (December). By May they'd already lost over 400,000.
  16. Two people, within ear shot of each other but different buildings, playing dueling banjos like in Deliverance. It would be entertaining and creepy at the same time if you overheard it.
  17. In real life, people are generally not able to handle advanced military equipment, fly a helicopter, be capable of reparing everything from a motorcyle to said helicopter, administer medical sophisticated enough to set a bone, all while being a capable hunter. People have different proficencies (e.g. a doctor and a mechanic) which immensely increase their chance of survival together. Not to mention the mere fact that having three people allow you to sleep in shifts, preventing you from being eaten in the middle of the night. These are hardly realistic reasons for CoD with zombies and beans.
  18. I expected a game that would be part PvE and part PvP. I expected zombies to be extremely threatening and places like the big three cities as well as military sites to be so dangerous, from the zombies AND other groups of players, that you would be completely suicidal to go in alone, essentially forcing you to cooperate to experience these areas. This would add an element – which you see and hear about all the time Youtube videos and reviews – where you interact with random other players, but are never sure if they are going to backstab you at the worst time, whether it be for food, medical supplies, top end gear, or just because they’re psychopaths. That would add group PvP with random players. That would add some dude you’ve been working with for an hour caping you in the knees as you run from a train of zombies. Dynamics like that. Loads of tension. A different experience than CoD or other shooters. Outside of these areas – 80% of the game map – I envisioned lone wolves, random bandits, and the occasional small groups, etc. frequenting mid-size and small towns, smaller military sites, and so forth, willing to kill you for a can of Pepsi. A no man’s land. I love PvP – alone or solo - but I expected more from this game than CoD with zombies, and videos/reviews totally portray that game as that. Here instead is what I get: I spawn, or respawn till I am near a big town. Then I sprint through the town, with a huge train of zombies behind me, which are apparently forget how to run when they enter a building. I leave them behind and loot my basic kit without firing a shot and get out of town. Unless I see another player, who I shoot, no questions asked, cause chances are they will do the same to me. Then one of two things happen: 1: I gear up, solo, and play the game like CoD with zombies, but a 30mn-2 hour set up period and a huge map and beans. Or: 2: I play the survival game, which with the right tools to cook your own food and a water bottle, never require me to realistically get near another player. Eventually I get bored of this and move to 1, die, and repeat. This game is cool and perma-death is an awesome aspect, it adds so much drama, but the videos and reviews led me to believe this game would be more than that. Also – because sprinting through a building or up a hill is so much more efficient that stealth, that segment of the game is really marginalized, which is lame. Sure I can group, meta game through a clan, but that again doesn't have that excitment from interacting with people who may kill me at any time, my clanmates wont backstab me or leave me in the dust if means their survival. Sorry for how long that was – hope it helps people understand. I don’t think it makes me, or a lot of other players, carebears for expecting this. And again, this is what the media portrays this game is, which currently it isn’t. Kudos to Rocket for an awesome mod so far, though.
