Germany. I am on very good terms with Tim from DayZ Priv, he is an awesome guy so if Germany doesn't work for you then he can sort you out with a server in the U.S. Datacenter. I might struggle to play there however ... but I guess we could run similar events on my server for the Europeans. I can also take care of domain registrations and setting up forums and hosting thereof, if you want to maybe do some type of joint initiative here. :) -

Ban his IP ... Ban his GUIDS ... he will eventually get the point and move on. About 3 times a day, I am banning players from my Public Hive Server, because of events like this. Typically I catch them in the logs after the fact ... but my player base continue to remain strong on the server. It is a constant source of frustration and annoyance ... but my players know that they can contact me anytime using the forums if the situation gets out of hand and I will take remedial action and then reboot the server to try and rectify some of the damage. It tends to work for me. The bottom line is to make it as uncomfortable and unpleasant for this player without resorting to trolling or insults ... just use all the tools at your disposal. I am interested in this as well. I currently play as "immersive" (not sure that can be used in this sentence) as possible ... so this would be the next level up from that. :) Oh if you want to try it out ... we can use my Private Hive Server ... I have a forum set up for it as while and it has Whitelisting enabled and BattleEye Extended Controls. :) It uses the DayZ Priv Control Panel (http://dayzpriv.com/features/) and (http://dayzpriv.com/control-panel/). Just thought you could run an event or two first and see how it goes and then rent your own server or continue to use this one. Besides it is more fun having other people on the server with me. ;) -
I am currently hosting a Private Hive Server (details at the bottom of the post) and I am keen to find out what the consensus is on White Listing and/or Password Protecting servers. I have forums set up for the server (including the Public Hive one I also host) but there doesn't seem to be much activity on those forums ... despite the Public Server having max players on line a large percentage of the time. Obviously I want people to play on the Private Hive, but I also want them to feel a little safe from "Skiddies" and hopefully enjoy themselves. using a Whitelist seems the answer, but will this not limit attracting new players to the server? Should I even care? How do you go about promoting your server? Should I just implement the Whitelist system and let the server growth happen organically? How do I inform people that they need to go to the forums to be Whitelist? Too many questions ... I am in a bit of a quandary on what to do and I am hoping someone here can share some insight or their experiences. To Whitelist or Not To Whitelist...

Yeah ... I already deal with Skiddies on my Public Server and I have become quite familiar with the Logs. :) Thanks to everyone for the input, I am going to go the Whitelist route ... and take it from there. -

Sorry ... but this is soooooooooooooo funnny. LMFAO I guess it boils down to how you play it. Everyone who plays has paid for the game and hence chooses how they wish to play (Skiddies are completely irrelevant and deserve to be permanently banned from a server) ... anyway I digress. I choose to play as a Survivor and enjoy helping out other players when I can. This has gotten me my Hero Skin and I have never shot at or killed another player. I do however avoid players when the server is very full ... Paranoia seems to increase when there are a lot of people running. This is how I choose to play the game ... yes I get shot at regularly ... sometimes they are extremely bad shots and I can get away without dying ... sometimes not so lucky. Bandits are a part of the game (once again don't get me started on Skiddies) and add some excitement to the game. Bandits shooting fresh spawns ... once again, it is part of the game and can be dealt with in a couple of ways. Normally on my server, I will publically started getting players grouped together and then we all go and hunt the Bandit down. We loose a few players in the process ... but it is fun. Sometimes the odd Bandit will disconnect when he sees a group of 10 players storming his position (if we ever find them) ... most of the time they play along and try to get as many of us before they buy the farm. I play DayZ as a RPG style game of sorts ... I like to immerse myself in the game ... but most importantly I never get attached to items ... I don't think I have owned more then 2 NVGs and normally only for a day or two. Now I don't even bother with them any more. I have found by accepting Bandits as part of the game, not trolling them or giving them grief over side channel and using the players on the server to help me ... makes for some entertainment. As I said ... this is how I play ... and I have been killed many time ... but I am proud to say that I have never shot at or killed a single other player in my entire time on DayZ. :) -

To Whitelist or Not To Whitelist...

Thanks for the input. I have decided to go ahead with the Whitelist option. Some of the regulars on my Public Server have expressed an interest in the Private Hive ... so that is a start. My server does not use any custom loadouts and use the standard vehicle spawns. I don't do contributors and my admins all have to be Hero Status on a Public Server before I will give them Admin status on any of the Servers. I plan on expanding the Private Hive to included linked servers with other maps, but I am currently starting off with Chernarus. The idea is to have a fairly standard server that has the extra support of frequent DB backups and provides a safe (as safe as can be on DayZ) playing experience for players. The population on the server doesn't bug me too much ... it is more about how do I tell people wanting to connect to the server that they have to go to the forums to get Whitelisted? -
BTW ... I am not against consoles. Was just an observation from the point of how much work is actually involved ... not whether it is feasible or possible. :)

Ummm ... sorry correct me if I am wrong. But because there logo appears there doesn't mean they are porting Arma3 to Playstation. Bohemia have a bunch of games (not just Arma) and some of these are for PlayStation. Anyway, there is talk of it on Playstation and Xbox. http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2012/08/15/dayz-ps3-and-360-versions-under-consideration/ That is however a very old link and nothing more has been said about it. As for the hardware being similar to PC, yes that is true ... but there are different registries and hardware addressing questions that need to be handled by the game engine. You also have different ways of addressing resident memory and storage and they way the PlayStation OS (for lack of a better word) talks to the hardware will be fundamentally different to a PC. Most of the time you can get away with hardware wrappers and other tricks but these have a downside of effecting performance. Bottom line is you would need a PS4 SDK and then branch/fork your current code and compile it to work on the PS4. There is still a lot of work on this and although it is doable it is not just a mater of flipping a switch and "viola" the game will play on PS4.

1). Already been answered terrorizer33. 2). There are various ways of doing this. You can do it in game when you are logged in as an admin (which is a bit of a pain as far as I am concerned), the other way is to use a RCON tool (like DaRT). Once again, this is highly dependant on your service provider. 3). Adding vehicles is normally done through the database, you will have to Google for tutorials on that, it requires some knowledge of the database and My-SQL/SQL. Most service providers have a control panel that allows you to add or spawn in vehicles. Other options are to add spawns directly in the mission file and import that in to your server, once again this is dependant on your service provider. 4). Admins in the game aren't really added, you merely given them your admin password for the server. If you want to add admins on the control center or management tool, that would be specific to your service provider and I can't help you there. 5). I would recommend you check your service provider's website for some type of FAQ and/or Knowledge Base. Failing that, send them some type of Support Ticket and they should be able to answer your questions. I am not with dayz.st ... so I can't answer on the specifics of how they do things and what services they provide. Are you talking about DayZ Standalone or DayZ Mod? In either case it would entail the game engine itself from being ported to the platform in question. Right now Arma2 and Arma3 engines are PC only (I stand corrected if they have a port but I am unaware of it) and as such it would require a huge amount of work to port the game engine. I am an Indie Game Developer and porting games to consoles (XBox, PS3, Wii) requires a fair amount of work ... even if your engine supports it out the box. I sincerely doubt that this is even on the cards, especially not for the current mod and it probably won't be on the cards for Arma3 or the DayZ standalone.

Heli Crash Sites sneaking ever further South

I have noticed one or two more South then normal ... the new patch seems to have spread them around a little. The other day I was making a run up the Khlem hill to see if the ATVs were there and maybe get an extra tent or two. I approach the hill from the South and as I near the top I see the plume of smoke. Looking confused I crested the ridge, only to be confronted with a Helicopter Crash Site on the top of Khlem hill. Was a total surpise, but a nice Bonus. 2x Tents from the ATVs and some nice shiny weapons from the Crash Site. :) -
