Would love to see this video using DayZ footage ... hook up on a Private Hive server with a whole bunch of people and make the video. :) Awesome song. :D

I'm in the 1% that isn't either ... might have something to do with my age though. :) -
I have a Private Hive server that I am trying to get a player community built on ... but I do not offer custom loadouts, changed starting equipment, or extra vehicles. It runs Vanilla DayZ as Rocket intended.

Rare items shouldn't automatically be the best.

So what is your DayZ Flavor? Vanilla, 2017 or DayZ+
novogeek replied to hempyhustle's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I have tried the others ... and although 2017 and DayZ+ have some awesome features that I think make them very good mods ... I find that DayZ Vanilla suits my playing style. I normally have a camp away from civilisation and other survivors, this is the smart choice to me as I am unsure how other survivors will react on any given day and I prefer to keep my own company. I will then do scavenges into the populated areas ... sometimes running up to 14 kms there and back in order to make the run ... to stock up on whatever I am running short of. During these runs I will normally just take a map and a hatchet and maybe some food and drink to get me to the scavenge target. I will normally go hunting for food ... using my trusted CZ550 and stock up on meat products ... because as a loner if I get in to trouble, blood bags are useless. There are some occasions where I will bump in to a survivor and we team up for a little while, helping each other out. Sometimes I will help survivors out who need supplies or medical treatment ... but I never give them weapons. If they find while we are working together, then that is fine. :) Now and again I will go looking for vehicles to repair, but only if I recently destroyed my vehicle or it was lost. Most of the time I will ensure my current vehicle is kept green across the board ... with enough spares in it to repair the critical issues if the need arises. I pretty much play alone and do my best to survive and keep my supplies stocked. I am not a fan of going to airfields for the latest gear (hell I don't even own a pair of NVGs) and I will normally only raid a crash site if I accidentally come across it and then most of the time I will only take ammo that I can use. I have spare weapons at my camp ... but only ones that use common ammo and that I currently play with. So yeah ... DayZ Vanilla suits my style of play, where the other two would kind of change the way I have to approach things and ultimately I am playing DayZ for the entertainment value. I don't like PvP and will always try to avoid any situations like that ... not because I don't know how to shoot or play ... but because I choose not to shoot other players. -

DayZ Vanilla ... and I run DayZ Vanilla on both my servers. :) -
Yes, I run a Public Official Hive that I constantly monitor to keep as hacker Free as possible ... it is a chore but I think I am winning. I also have a Private Hive that you have to be whitelisted on that uses a standard build with no custom loadouts or any of that nonsense. Both of these run original DayZ ... no DayZ+ or origins ... if that matters to anyone. The community on the Public Hive is nice and steady and seem to be a good bunch of people. The private hive has just started and I am still trying to build the community around that. I am the sole admin on both servers at the moment and being in the late 30's age group ... I have no desire to be power hungry or have the coolest gear. I have to date never killed another player ... this has gotten me killed many times ... but it is how I choose to play. :) Both servers are hosted in Europe and I have a full forum system in place for the servers ... as I said, still trying to build up the player base. :) Ultimately I rent these servers cos I like playing the game and if other players join me ... all the better. :)

Procedural Generated Terrain and can be used to stream large terrains. http://www.garagegames.com/community/blogs/authorID/40622 Read all the blogs pertaining to "Unlimited Voxel Terrain" ... it is possible with today's technology ... it is just not possible with some game engines. As for all the other ideas ... it is all possible ... it just needs to be built in to the engine. The amount of work required is entirely dependant on the team developing the game and the engine they are using. Obviously having access to the C++ source code of the engine is the key, something like this could not be done in "Unity" for instance unless you had access to the full source code (which is pretty costly). The trick is to finding the right team, right engine, and then making the time to make the game do everything that is required. But it is all possible ... with a game developed from the ground up to be a Zombie Survival Game and not a Mod of a Military Simulation Engine or a Mod on top of the Source Engine ... both those engines were designed for particular purposes. Rocket and his team has done an awesome job with the DayZ Mod and implementing the features that they have ,,, but I think they are starting to reach the limit of what the Arma2 engine can do ... so DayZ SA should be interesting. :)

After hosting a Public Hive Official Server (DE 4265) for a few weeks now, I decided to look in to hosting a Private Hive Server as well. Unfortunately I made the mistake of going to [NAME REDACTED TO PROTECT THE GUILTY] first but quickly realised my mistake and cancelled my account before it got out of hand (still waiting for the Pay Pal Dispute to be handled ... but anyway). In one of the threads about the afore mentioned group mentioned DayZ Priv, and after doing some research and spending a lot of time on their website and Googling them ... I decided to bite the bullet and ordered my server. The order was placed at 10:41 South Africa time (GMT +2) and I received my Server Login Details by 15:49. Well now, that is about 43 hours faster then the other crowd ... thumbs up +1 and all that stuff. So I started testing the server and ended up playing with the custom_loadouts ... managed to get it working but for some unknown reason my loadout was reset to the custom_loadout every time I logged in ... which meant an endless supply of ammo. I Googled some more, tried a few things and eventually thought that maybe my DB was the problem ... so I used their tool and did a restore to one of the rolling backups. My bad ... I chose a 0 sized rolling backup and wiped out all the tables ... *sigh* ... teaches me to read the screen properly next time. So I decided to log a ticket with the support desk. Ticket logged 19:25 (GMT+2) ... First Response received 19:40 ... Situation Resolved 19:46 ... WOW!!! I am still waiting for the other party to answer a Sales Question I have ... go figure. So the Morale of the Story (besides me having to read screens better before doing DB restores) is ... you want a very good Private Hive Service Provider ... go with DayZ Priv ... it is definitely worth the money and their system works like the label on the box. DayZ Priv ... you have a new fan and I am looking to a nice long business relationship with you all. 8-} Keep up the awesome work and thanks again. Here are the server details: Address: 62.75.216.74 Port: 2362 Max Players: 40 Map: Chernarus Vehicles: Normal Spawns Version: v1.7.5.1 Other: No custom loadouts. Active admins. BE Extended Controls. Server is constantly monitored. Server Location: Germany/France Server Hoster: DayZ Priv (http://www.dayzpriv.com)

Anyone know/have a normal Chernarus server?
novogeek replied to Deno2012's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
RuffneX Chernarus. It is a Private Hive Server that requires players to be Whitelisted. NO custom loadouts. NO free gear. NO need to contribute. Standard Vehicle Spawns (but with a higher probability of spawning). Server is actively monitored. Server logs are regularly checked. BattleEye Extended Controls enabled. Admins are friendly. As the name indicates, it is running the Chernarus map and has a max player limit of 40. We are trying to build a strong community around the server and although the server is hosted in Germany, we are primarily English speaking people. To get whitelisted, you need to visit the server forums at: http://dayz.gobbogames.co.za/forum/ Server Details: IP: 62.75.216.74 Port: 2362 We have a Public Team Speak server that can also be used, just check the forums for the details. -
Actually this is all possible ... not in the Arma2 engine or current Mod ... but this is possible. I have a similar dream and I have been working on a secret project with two other developers, a couple of artists, and a scripter using the Torque 3D Game Engine (which we may change later). Your vision and my vision are pretty similar and that is all I can say ... except this: "I make games that I would like to play" ... seeing your vision means there are other people out there who have similar outlooks on games as I do ... and that is refreshing.

LMFAO ... this was an awesome video ... have some Beans. Love the part when the music goes dead when he gets shot. :) Awesome job ... and it just reminds me that I have to get a better PC. *mutter* *mumble*

I think there will still be a community around the original DayZ for some time to come. I honestly don't see why both communities can't or won't exist simultaneously. I personally plan to keep my original DayZ servers running for as long as they can. :) In all honesty ... the game is not that expensive through Steam (coming from South Africa at R8.49 to $1) ... I would say go for it. There is still a lot of fun to be had with the current mod. You can also play others mods like Wasteland ... which is also a lot of fun. I think you will get your money's worth from buying the game. Just my opinion. :)

So here is a question to all players out there, what type of events would you like to see take place on Private Hive Servers? I am not trying to compete with Survivor Games or anything like that ... I am just thinking about a way to get a bunch of players together to complete a task or storm a bandit camp or whatever. Would just like to hear some thoughts on this ... it can be as random as you want. ;) So instead of replying to my own thread, I thought I would add to this thread ... with two chained ideas that I came up with while sitting at work. :) Chapter 1: The Great Escape Survivors (players) are hold up in the town of Cherno and Elektro in small groups of about 4 or 5 individuals. All hell has broken loose and the town is filling up with Zs. The survivors hear a radio broadcast that the town of Gorka offers a safe haven and all survivors should make there way there as soon as they can. The players must now escape the town they are in with enough food and drink to last each survivor at least 5 meals, as they are not sure how bad the situation is out there. They will also need medical supplies and weapons (this is optional if they so choose) and will have to be quick about it. Night time is fast approaching and they don't want to be on the roads at night. The towns will have the normal loot points and maybe the odd surprise here and there. Most of the server vehicles will be moved to the cities or close proximity and will be at various levels of repair and use. The players will have to make choices about scavenging what and taking what and whether they should spend the time fixing a vehicle or just hoof it. Admins will play the role of helpless victims who have a tendency to die right in front of other groups with a shed load of Zs in tow. There will be no PvP and no Bandits ... just a whole lot of players having fun and trying to survive. What decisions will you make? Chapter 2: Everybody Needs a Hero The players make it to Gorka and enter the town only to realise that the town is overrun and the radio broadcast was a week old and was on repeat. Now the Admins take on the role of the Survivors stuck in the town and the Players are now going to be the Heroes coming to the rescue. The players hear an emergency broadcast from the victims inside Gorka, calling for immediate assistance ... there are woman and children (well Admins acting like children) and they won't survive long. The players will start at Balota or NE Airfield, they will need to decide whether the hoof it on foot, take a vehicle (which will need repair) or take air transport (which will also need repair). They will also have to take medical supplies and provisions as some of the victims have been stuck in Gorka for a while. There is a time limit however ... so players need to make critical decisions that could affect whether a victim survives or dies. Once again there is no PvP and no Bandits. Chapter 3: Exodus This is still a work in progress ... but the idea here is that players will have to make there way from Gorka to the NW Airfield ... as they heard rumours that there is a flight landing in a few hours that can evacuate X amount of people. There are also rumours that a group of Bandits have been spotted at the airfield and are laying in wait for the plane for their own purposes. In this chapter the Admins will be Bandits ... they will have to gear up just like other players and will actually be at a disadvantage because they are not allowed to leave the air field at all. :) This time there will be PvP ... but we all no Admins suck at shooting. ;) Anyway ... these are just my thoughts ... it could also be expanded to say that the flight from Chernarus is heading to Lingor (or elsewhere) and more chapters can be written. It would be cool if players record their footage and we can do a nice Movie Style Playback for those who don't take part. Oh well ... just a thought ... I thought it would be cool ... but that is just me. :)

Edited my post to include my own ideas ... would like to hear what any of you think. Don't worry I am wearing my "Flame Proof" underpants. ;)

ROFLMAO ... thanks, you have made my Friday. :)

Seriously ... I come from South Africa and I read this topic as: Advanced (zombie) infection in S.A. ... because we abbreviate our country as SA or S.A. ... very few abbreviate it as RSA or R.S.A. Anyway ... I was like ... epic ... finally a real world scenario to use my DayZ skills in ... and then I realised it stood for Stand Alone ... how sad is my life. :( *sits in the corner and rocks himself to sleep*

Isn't it about time we added horses?
novogeek replied to Bottlerocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Okay ... just one question ... do you lead the horse to the hay bails ... or take the hay bails to the horse ... damn Zombie Apocalypse Survivor Dilemmas ... I mean seriously!!! -
I think he logged out?

Hi, I get the SSL Error all the time too ... but it doesn't prevent me from logging on. Have you tried a different server? If you have tried a different server and are still getting the same problem then I think you might have a broken install of Arma2 and may need to repair it. I think the SSL Error has nothing to do with the problem you are experiencing. I do stand under correction though ... HTH. :)

Doesn't double strands of Barbed Wire stop Zombies? I haven't actually tried it ... will give it a bash on my server tonight. :) Also, don't these items eventually disappear after a few days?

I choose to the play game not to kill other players ... but I do have a story about my best kill, so here goes. First a little back story, I am in a Hero Skin and I normally run around with only a Hatchet and maybe a G17 if get lucky (primarily for the Flashlight Attachment -- I tend to loose NVGs). So I am looting the Big Industrial Spawn Construction Site on the East of Cherno and bump into a Bicycle parked there. This is after the 1.7.5.1 release so Bicycles have become a bit of a commodity. So I hope on and see that it needs 2 Wheels and 1 Scrap Metal. So I start doing a little farming, off the bat I find 1 Wheel and 1 Scrap Metal and immediately go fix the Bicycle. Agro a few Zombies but I retreat to the building and deal with them. Loot the rest of the building, find nothing so I start emptying it out and hang around for the loot to respawn (I see nothing wrong with Farming as long as you don't DC all the time and actually hang around the area you are farming). So at about my third or forth run through the building, I am having no luck finding that last wheel, the stuff normally spawns when you don't need it ... but anyway. I hear a few gun shots in Cherno and they start getting closer to me. I go up to higher ground and see a player running towards the construction site ... I get nervous and find a place to go prone and hide. The player runs through the building and up to the floor I am on ... and he runs right past me. I wait about 15 minutes ... holding my hatchet nervously and praying he doesn't come back or see the bicycle. Eventually I build the courage to poke my head up and I see him running back the direction he came from. So I continue going about my business. About 10 minutes later, I am on the outer area dropping some of the useless tin cans and I hear gunshots. I immedeately get nervous and look up only to see two Bandits run around the corner ... the one sees me and starts opening fire with an AK or AKM ... luckily for me he can't shoot worth a damn and I am full Blood. So I hightail it through the building and they give chase ... but now there weapon has aggroed half of Cherno (remember this is the new patch) and as I am running out, I see them running through the building ... only to turn around and run back. The site is getting swamped with Z's now. So I quickly bandage while they are shooting every Z they can trying to secure their position ... I decide to run past the building and go get some more agro for them. I manage to attract about 10 or so Z's ... a large portion were on their way to the site already ... I just gave them a target to chase. I start running back to the site, hearing that the gun shots have now stopped. I run around the corner and towards where I hope the two bandits are ... the Bicycle. The one bandit is busy putting a wheel on (while I assume he was because that is all the bicycle needed) and the other is trying to reload or something to deal with the agro that is coming from repairing vehicles. I run right past them and sprint for all my Heroes worth ... the bandit reloading doesn't even have chance to say "Boo" or warn his friend ... when the Z's pounce. Safely on the one hill ... I hear some gun shots, a leg break, another leg break ... and the inevitable screams as the Z's start eating Brainzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Finally followed by two kill messages. I return to the site, use my silent hatchet and dispatch the last of the Z's and take the bicycle back to my camp. It was a sweet day and I managed to kill two bandits without actually killing them ... the life of a survivor ... hehehehehe. ;)

Is the term "bandit" losing meaning?
novogeek replied to unkillable94's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
True Bandits achieve their goal without killing people ... after all it is all about repeat business. ;) It is up to the Victims and any Heroes to return the favour to the Bandits ... normally without bloodshed ... maybe a broken leg or drag them in to a room and barricade the exit with a Tank Trap. Yes, yes ... they can server hop ... but wouldn't it be fun to play out this scenario. Anyway, maybe I live in a Utopia where Unicorns exist and blow rainbows and bubbles out their "butt" (was going to say horn ... but changed it due to possible copyright infringement) ... ahhhh ... sorry, where was I again.
