If your talking about the vanilla mod we are trying to create game play elements to make sure nothing lasts 100% of the time unfortunately sometimes we just cant mimic real life with current items we have to hand. Maybe at a later date we can get our hands on some new models to make it a little more realistic.

     

    If your axe is breaking that much post an issue on github about it might just be a chance issue.

     

    Yep, this is in OA Dayz mod - vanilla.  Started mining stone today, pickaxe handle broke after about 10 stone...  Apologies if I posted in the wrong section, thought I was in the dayz mod General questions section.  Dayz mod = OA Dayz?  no?


  2. start collecting hatchets right away.  They break every 3rd use.  Have been away from Dayz vanilla for some time.  I come back, think, cool let's try out the new building system... which btw is very cool!

     

    However the most annoying thing EVER...  the axe handles break WAAAAAAAAY too easily.  Hatchets last decades guys, this game for me, since I started building has turned into hatchet Z.  Have gone through easily ten hatchets in the last few days.  It's idiotic.  I have had the same hatchet in real life for 20 years and as of yet, I've NEVER broken the handle chopping wood.  Not sure whose idea it was to have the handles break on your tools every 3rd use but it's idiotic.  I spend most of my day in game searching for hatchets.

     

    Has any of the devs actually ever owned a hatchet, sledgehammer, pick??  If so, how often do you have to replace your handles?  Guess how many times I have...  NEVER.  

     

    Just today, right before restart, chop some wood, handle breaks.  Server restarts, I get a fresh hatchet from my tent (getting low, down to 3 now!), first time chopping, break the handle...  Get another, chop about 5 logs, break the handle.  It's just stupid.  Hatchet collector simulator FTW!

     

    This can't be just happening to me???  Saw a thread in Git, was closed with no real explanation.

     

    You can use a hatchet to kill zeds, create boards from logs, chop up cars until they explode, nearly anything other than what they were engineered and designed to do and they never break.  Use a hatchet for what it was actually made to do, bang, it breaks.  It's as if you are penalized for actually using a hatchet to chop wood.  I just can't fathom the logic behind this...

     

    ****Yeah I don't mean to come off as a big jerk, I'm just frustrated here.  I just went back in game and broke 3 more handles in just a few minutes.  Very frustrating.  I would love to have someone else go in game and just chop wood as a test.  Just to see how they do.  Am I just having the worst luck ever?  Possibly but I doubt it.


  3. Server is updated to 1.0.3. and ready to go.  Everything is running silky smooth with great framerates.

     

    Lab, we pulled it back down after the initial upgrade didn't go so well.  I basically rebuilt the server again last night and all is well.  I did NOT touch the database just the server files so all your stuff is intact!  Get on there!


  4. Had a good re-debut weekend.  We're picking up momentum for sure, already have a handful of regulars (some still had us in their favorites from our previous server!) and our core group.

     

    Lots of very cool map additions, classy, not over the top stuff here.  If you are a Lingor veteran you'll likely notice alot of the stuff added in, if not, you'll not know what's normally there and what's been added.  Now we do have a few purely custom bases etc that are obvious but the bulk of what's added blends in.

     

    Come check us out, very cool admins, no admin abuse - NONE.  Admins are very active and we're constantly working to add improvements.

     

    We are not some fly by night dayz clan that just sprang into existence.  We are part of an online gaming community that has been gaming together since 2004.  www.gloryofwar.com

     

    We play many games, we're not out to rule dayz as the uber dayz clan.  We are not a clan at all, we're an open gaming community that loves the game.

     

    Community members and admins get no special treatment, no special gear, no special vehicles, nothing more than any other player.

  5. Hey Deathcall.  No I am not smacker, but I was there.  

     

    Funny how when your admin cuntsauce combat logged on us, smacker was the most vocal about an ADMIN combat logging, which is against the rules, next thing you know, cuntsauce happens to claim he witnessed smacker teleport.  

     

    You try to discredit our claim of an admin breaking rules by claiming the most vocal complainer was teleporting.  You see, who can believe a teleporter right?  He must have lied about your admin combat logging because he's a teleporter.  Does anyone on these boards think that is the way a server admin should handle someone with a beef against an admin?

    Another thing, on dump hill, at least two admins (3 people not sure if 3rd was admin) sniped all day there.  Weapons?  AS50s and LRRs.  We flank hill, kill them, their bodies have no gear on them, and their diaries have no information in them.  5 minutes later, guess whos back on dump hill sniping again with as50s and LRRs?  You guessed it, a couple admins.  My guess is they do this and you don't know they do this.  Of course you will take their word over ours, I'm not trying to change your mind, I know I will not.

     

    I was not banned from your server I left myself and no worries I will not return.  I refuse to play on a server where admins play in this manner.  I'm not saying all admins play this way or even that it's widespread ( I have no idea how many admins you have) but I do KNOW at least two do cheat.

     

    fwiw, deathcall, you seem to be a very fair and decent guy, your other admins however are not. It's that simple.  I'm not going to argue about this.  I came here to let others know this happens on this server.  They are dirty, not all but some are dirty admins.  How many dirty admins does it take to ruin a server?  Don't make a claim against an admin, or maybe you will be their next teleporter.

     

    End of story.

     

    I will not respond to any further discussion here, I came here to warn others, I have done so.  Your admins have wasted enough of my time.


  6. Server has had a recent change, seems the guys that ran the server had a scuffle among themselves and have split up.  Now I know why.

     

    The admins there now, with the exception of deathcall (who has generally been a very decent and fair player/admin), clearly use the admin tools to esp and find enemies, spawn themselves top tier loot, as50s, lrr's, not to say these aren't available in the wild; they are, but at least 3 admins abuse the system VERY badly.  

     

    I have run several servers and know all too well about the cries of players claiming admin abuse so I do not take this post lightly.  It pains me to see other fellow server admin doing this but I tell you all, it IS happening here.

     

    This is no rant, just a warning.  Play there at your own risk.

  7. There are some pitfalls to avoid.  If you put gear into a backpack then put that backpack on a car.  The gear inside the backpack will be gone after restart.

     

    If you have vehicle towing on your server...  If you do not get into a towed vehicle after you have moved it, it may go back to where you hooked onto it over a server restart.  So if you tow a vehicle always get into the towed vehicle after moving it to update it's position in the database.

    The simple answere to this is not to get a bandit. Like you probably know in the SA the humanity system will be overworked, so maybe it will get pretty important then.

    Pretty easy to avoid that:

    -the hostage is only able to walk

    In that case the hostage taker can knock him out whenever he wants.

    Like you also probably know, in the SA there will be a whole new charakter system, so I think you wont be only worried about your gear, but also about the charakter you lose. (I don't know how Rocket wants to accomplish this, but I believe he will)

    And no one forces you to get in the hostage mode. If you are surrounded by 5 people, you probably have no chance. If the other players are no bandits, they can let you alive, knock you out and just go on without the hostage being a threat to them.

    I have to say that the numbers I gave as proposal could be also change. Maybe it would be better to knock someone out for a minute, I just wanted to deliver the idea.

    I'm pretty sure taking someone hostage in the first place should come with some BAD effects. Like say loss in humanity. Also what kind of a person takes someone hostage? I'd say a bandit. Banditry is not necessarily murder only. That is a murderer.

    Taking people hostage and robbing them would be the act of bandits. It seems you would want to have the ability to steal peoples things but have no repercussions or ill effects on yourself. So again, what reason is there to for not just killing someone and stealing their stuff. To not turn into a bandit? I'd say you already are a bandit. Heroes do not go around taking hostages and robbing people. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

    For example: Say you took someone hostage at gunpoint. The hostage manages to get his hands on a gun. There is a fight; you kill the hostage. In your scenario this would be self defense. Where I come from you just murdered your hostage. Had the hostage managed to kill you, that would be justified homicide or self defense. The hostage taker loses all benefits of self defense the moment the take a hostage.

    You cannot take hostages and NOT be a bad person I'm sorry.


  9. What is the purpose of taking a hostage? To steal their loot? So why not just kill them? What reason is there to not kill the hostage and take all their stuff anyway?

    Why would the hostage taker NOT lose huge humanity for killing the hostage if the hostage attempts to get away? What hostage would not want to escape?

    What benefit does the hostage have with any of this? He lives, now stripped of all his items, possibly worse off than if he just dies and spawns fresh? At least when you die and respawn you have starting gear.

  10. This update only proves that the dev team doesn't have a spine. They put something in the game, that didn't change or break anything, and instantly pander to people whom never had an argument in the first place.

    You should feel bad that you backed down and allowed this to happen to supposedly "your game." You are putting it in the development in the hands of people who complain on the internet, but I'm sorry to inform you that they will always say that you're in the wrong. Stick to your core vision, quit caring about people who are just yelling to yell.

    So if I understand what you are saying: You are on here complaining that the dev team is wrong to remove the new food items. The dev team should not give in to the people that come on here complaining to get their way and you are telling them it's wrong to do this... because there will always be someone on here telling the dev team they are wrong. That about sum it up?
