Nothing against private hives, just played on one for a week or so but some shady stuff went on so I want to switch back to a public server. Also, I don't need a server with a gazillion vehicles, care packages or perks because I like the challenge of the original concept.
Now, what am I doing wrong in my search for servers, as it seems every single one of them is now a private hive?

it does get very very dark at times but to me that's more of a fun challenge
also i've seen a few nights that had the moon out which provided me with enough light without even adjusting gamma etc.- unless under thick vegetation ofcourse, just like it is in real life/nature.

I understand why you suggest this, but instead of forcing everyone to play the same difficulty it would be fairer to keep the various levels of difficulty separated, e.g. when starting a life on 'regular' you cannot join an 'expert' server until you die.
Same end-result, better method in my opinion.

I was on UK22 coming from Khelm going to the center Berezino (where the apartmentbuildings and supermarket are) when I got the artefact problem. It seemed to come from the military tents and also from hedgehogs/tanktraps and / or barbed wire, couldn't see clearly (cuz of the graphics). I do not have a screenshot of the hedgehogs but that definately was one of the sources.
Here's a screenshot after I ran back up north a bit to admire the new architecture in Chernarus, had to run face down in order to see anything else than crrrazy camo patterns

it may all be talk, but I went to Green Mountain once...
while I was there it was scary and when I left there were 2 dead survivors outside the gate. They were not there when I arrived and I did not hear them die.
I ran away, and haven't stopped running since.
*something* is going on there... that's for sure

you probably forgot to copy and replace the "arma2oa.exe" from the main arma OA folder with the one in the ...\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\Expansion\beta\... folder?
that's what I initially forgot anyways

I'm puzzled by this as well, as I've never seen anyone use chat up to this point (started playing 2/3 weeks ago). I occasionaly type in chat to see if anyone responds but I started to wonder if a) it was broken or b.) i was doing something wrong. Nice to know I'm not the only one, though.
I do know voice chat works (haven't tried it myself yet), someone once said something and startled me so much I shot him by reflex :(

hm that might be it indeed, just need some patience then..
As far as my searching goes, I use both the ingame MP server listings as Sixlauncher, both with limited filters such as max ping 50 etc.
