    bird hack is out! wtf!?

Well, seeing as he's a forum moderator and not a developer... gonna' go ahead and say you're off point.
  3. More zombies? Fire a weapon in Cherno, get mobbed by hordes and die 90% of the time. More players? Amount of people moving inland goes up in a relative sense. People get the hammer down on the coast who try to PvP. It becomes unsustainable with the amount of zombies. Tweak the loot spawns on the coast so they're not as abundant? Whilst at the same time placing a premium on hunger/thirst/weather effects, causing people to be more mobile.
  4. Wow, that's pretty wild... kind of adds to the desperate atmosphere of DayZ... I like that a lot. If I came up on a pile of suicides at the foot of a cliff, I'd probably freak out. They need to add this as a fixed game object like the mass graves. As to the spawning, I want the coast to be a clusterfuck. And I certainly do not want people spawning inland. I wouldn't really find solace in making a stash when some yahoo who just spawned in on top of it can snag all my shit. Make the inland more attractive and the coast more suicidal.
  5. Again... FN FNX used by nobody outside of a few LE organizations in Belgium and the US (who use the FNP, not the newer FNX). Relatively rare in the civilian market. In the game. 1911, rendered as a modified Kimber Warrior, used by nobody. Insanely expensive and rare in the civilian world. Or, if you use your imagination, it resembles the M45A1 used solely by "tacticool" operators in MARSOC/FORECON. In the game. Amphibia S, highly regulated and expensive single-make modification for the Ruger Mk II only used by SEALs. In the game. How are these things not obscure again?

    What You Get Attached To...

Well, to that I'd say that there's a difference between getting attached to your gear and getting upset when you die. I get attached to my stuff, and then say "Wow, fair enough!" whenever I get killed. And yeah, I find myself wanting (although never following through with) to start over from scratch. But I attribute that more to the lack of activities in DayZ than anything.
  7. Right, because that's what I said. I wasn't referring to what the OP was articulating, meaning stoves and such /sarcasm And your blind prejudice against my nationality is adorable! Do they make more of your kind?
  8. My solution involves the saying of "tough tits". Group play shouldn't be anything quicker than it already is. People already have TS to arrange meetings from across the map. Spawns shouldn't be catered to appease clans and group play. Everyone should be on an equal playing field in terms of spawns. Random.
  9. I like this change. However, it only means Svetlo and Berezino are more likely to be PvP clusterfucks... over Cherno and Elektro. Which is fine by me, I am rarely on the coast. I'd've rather they had spawns on the corners of the coast (i.e. Kamenka and Svetlo) than just the east side, but anything that diversifies the "coast spawn" system is fine by me.

    What You Get Attached To...

I suspect all the derps will come in and say "Nothing, it's DayZ brah, don't get attached to nothing nub!" But I get attached to the look of my character more than anything now that I think about it (which is tied to gear, so it might be a bit redundant). Good job including that.

    Difference of M4A1 scopes

Pretty sure it's just aesthetic. The M68 is the "US" optic and the... whatever the other one is (T3N)... seems to be of Russian origin. Not sure on that though, my knowledge of non-US optics is pretty shoddy. Neither one is a scope, just a RDS. No biggie though, just me being pedantic. Can't wait to see what kinds of optics they'll add down the road. Really would like to see an Aimpoint T1. Just a low-profile and simple RDS.

    The Battle Rifle Thread!

Well, two relatively large countries (Norway having a population of 5 million and Germany having a population of 80 million). None of which are Chernarus, the fictional country in which we're playing this video game. Only mentioned them to assert the inaccuracy of your claim that no army uses railed G3s. Moreover, never did I say railed G3s were more prevalent than non railed G3s. However, I would assert that they are more relevant yes, in terms of pragmatic gameplay concerns. Should they be removing the 1911 (a very expensive, rare, and modified Kimber Warrior), the FN FNX (a weapon employed by Belgium and the US in a few sparse police units) and the Amphibia S (a very expensive weapon, rare, only used by SEALs, and highly regulated in the civilian world due to ATF regulations)?

Is a longer view distance being worked on?

While I do think that the fog needs to be moved back, there are already a lot of variables which are client-side that help indefinitely (i.e. gamma, ATOC, AA, etc.) Not entirely sure it's shorter than in the mod.

Norway and Germany. Non-SF run railed G3's as a DMR and BR. So what even if only SF use the weapon either way? I am dealing with it, by advocating against it. Never been into a Walmart, is it nice?

    Mid-Length AR-15 [Torchia Reddit]

I think, especially with the AR-15, that it might be better just to include more attachments and/or modifications (like longer barrels, or even dedicated "kits" which could be looted). More variants without actually having more weapons. Agreed about the SCAR and AUG. Not sure there are any who use both but yeah, Lithuania (former Soviet nation) adopted the Mk 20 as a DMR. Serbia uses the Mk 16 with their police. France. Germany (borders Czech Republic). Croatia. Belgium. I don't think a Mk 16 (SCAR-L) would necessarily be useful, as it could essentially be the same (in-game) as an M4 but I can certainly see a Mk 17 being useful in game. Either way, never saw a point in limiting yourself to a particular weapon set as if seeing a particular weapon breaks "immersion". Doesn't break mine.

Wich vehicles do you want to see in the SA?

AFAIK the UH-1H in ARMAII/DayZ was unmarked. There was also a Takistani UH-1H in OA, Takistan also borders Chernarus. Definitely think we'll need something a little more wieldy than an Mi-17/Mi-8.

    Mid-Length AR-15 [Torchia Reddit]

Definitely think we should see the Vz 58 at some point. Very cool weapon. Plus it doesn't look half-bad all kitted up and camo'd in ARMA.

    The Battle Rifle Thread!

Yeah, I mean my buddy bought a solid rail and railed handguard for his PTR-91 (G3) off of the web. Very fun weapon! Kicked like a spooked horse though... convinced him to install a recoil buffer and comp, made a world of difference.

DMR did 8200 damage. AKM did something like 4000. I like both! :D

    The Battle Rifle Thread!

Agreed. Would also separate it from the M4 (which comes standard with an optics mount on the upper). Would much rather have looted rails than rails as standard, but it should be an option.

    The Battle Rifle Thread!

    1. Most weapons have irons. Most weapons now have rails as well as issued. Including the G3, which I've demonstrated (not saying that railed G3s outnumber unrailed G3s). But cool. Most M1911's don't have rails, yet it's in the game with rails, does that break your immersion? 2. Okay, then finding Mk 17's, M240's, Mk 48's, and Mk 11/M110's would be plausible. All commonly used/issued weapons within the United States Armed Forces (vanilla Army units use Mk 48's, M240s, and M110s can provide pictures and info if necessary). Much moreso than the Mk 12. Won't justify it, it's just the way it is. You can't just arbitrarily pick and choose. 3. I know what the developers are interested in. They've said so. They're not interested in pure realism, and are seeking a balance. They've said it. And it's evident in the current crop of weapons. We have typical Warsaw Pact weapons mixed in with NATO weaponry and relatively rare weapons (i.e. Amphibia S and kitted-out M1911). To say nothing of attachments. 4. Seeing as the Mk 17 (Mk 20) is slotted to replace the Mk 12 as per USASOC contract (http://kitup.military.com/2011/06/usasoc-reveals-fnh-usa-mk20-plan.html), you're wrong on that one as well. Never mind the fact that the Mk 17 is already in regular use with USSOCOM as a battle rifle and is continued to be purchased by the military from FN. Which I've demonstrated to you multiple times in the past. Nevermind the fact that it isn't easy to convert an M4 to an SPR. They don't convert M4's to SPRs. Sure, they use the same lower, but they make Mk 12's as one-off weapons, hence the military designation separate from that of the M4A1, M16A4, SDM-R, and SAM-R. If you're saying it's easy to convert an M4 to a SPR, why is it difficult to add a rail to a Mosin? This is where your logic is inconsistent. Your definition of "cohesive" and "immersion" is not my definition of those concepts in DayZ. Stop supposing your opinion as objective. Your statement about the can opener is completely irrelevant. I'm not saying they should be common. Which is what you're saying in that anecdote.

    The Battle Rifle Thread!

What's your point? You've moved from arbitrary dismissals based on something being "dumb" and "tacticool" to likelihood in a fictional country (which it is indeed likely if you look at the fiction of Chernarus). Pick your train of thought. There's nothing obscure about a B+T rail for a G3 (used as standard-issue by Norway). "...there are kits like that for every weapon out there", sort of proves my point, but alright. You're also confusing likelihood with capability and gameplay. M4A1's in-game don't spawn with fore-end rails. Rails are a rare accessory to be looted. Why isn't that an issue? Why couldn't that be the case with a FN FAL or G3 in DayZ? Moreover, the developers aren't interested in pure realism (hence why there are fully-automatic M4A1's to be looted in a supposed "Eastern European" country). So, regardless of your desire for pure realism, it isn't going to happen. By all means advocate for it, but the developers have been profoundly against emulating "reality" for quite some time. I also remind you, that a Mk 12 SPR is pretty unlikely to be found in Chernarus by your standards. Your only concern with the Mk 12 has been whether or not it's commonly used by the United States, which is debatable (as it's being replaced by the Mk 17 and other more relevant DMRs). Not whether it is likely to be present in Chernarus. Do you see the contradiction in your logic there?
  24. Katana67

    The Battle Rifle Thread!

I've proven your assertion about the G3 to be ENTIRELY false. Standard-issue Norwegian A-G3's come with rails. German G3 DMR variants COME with rails. I agree about the FAL, even though I certainly wouldn't mind rails on it.
  25. Katana67

    The Battle Rifle Thread!

Well... seeing as HK G36's are in vanilla ARMA II, I think it's ENTIRELY likely. Either way, your criterion hasn't been the dismissal of them based upon likelihood, it's been on the arbitrary connotation of something as "tacticool". Even though rails are a common feature of many weapons.
