found m4 suppressor and pistol suppressor in same tent..and....

Sure they still spawn, but do they spawn pre-aggro'd? -
Right, but as I said before, that assertion assumes DayZ is in the Armaverse. Which I would assert it is (based solely on the fact that it's using Chernarus as a backdrop). But we've received no confirmation from the developers, to my knowledge, that DayZ is a part of the Armaverse. EDIT - Since I wrote this, we have received confirmation of the relative background of DayZ (see my signature).

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here. I'm in favor of adding weapons like the SCAR as well. Just not as a common occurance, hence why I slotted it into my "Very Rare" category above. People can have their cake and eat it too. You can have the Eastern weapons be relatively common. But have the so-called "Western" weapons be rare. The issue is that a lot of the vocal people in this thread (not me) think that the very presence of something is immersion-breaking, somehow, regardless of whether it's rare in-game or not.
-
Well, in his defense, to my knowledge... there's been no actual confirmation that we're in the Armaverse. Or what year it is in the fiction of DayZ. However, it doesn't take away from the fact that Chernarus is a fictional location. And DayZ is operating in a fictional universe. It's not really relevant to talk about what would be present in Chernarus by using ONLY real-world circumstance, because Chernarus doesn't exist in the real-world. I mean, the weapons of ARMA III aren't realistic by any means in terms of their use or presence in a "Mediterranean Island". But it's fiction, and the weapons are incorporated into said fiction. DayZ is NO different. And, I disagree that the SCAR (if ever included) should be "somewhat common", if only for the purposes of balancing it and its placement in the loot scheme. I think it should be very rare.

Neat! -
You bring shame to that E92 M3 with your lunacy. And no, I welcome all weapons. Eastern and Western included. There's zero point in discriminating based solely upon real-world circumstances when we're dealing with a work/location of fiction. And for what it's worth, I did say that I could see the AR-10 variants being substituted for the SCAR. So, your deeming me as a "fanboy" is sort of juvenile and misplaced (not that my non-prejudice against weapons isn't evidence enough of that). And "plausible but highly unlikely" is the definition of rarity. Nobody's saying it should be common.

Plenty of ways they could do it. I'm not entirely sure how they could do a "lick your finger and hold that bitch up" gesture without incorporating more text on the side (i.e. "My finger feels like the wind is blowing from the east). Throwing dirt up is also a solution, though I think it might be hard to animate. To my knowledge, nothing like it has been done in terms of combining an animation with a particle effect. But I think moving foliage is a good way of doing it (if not too performance-heavy). Or just a toggle-able arrow HUD item, not a big fan of this, but another approach nonetheless. I think a lootable Kestrel windmeter might be a good item to include when they include wind as a factor in ballistics. Should require batteries. Shouldn't be overly common. Same thing applies to limited hunting rangefinders.

Thinly veiled attempt at relevancy as an excuse to post a video completely unconcerned with DayZ.

im not sure upcoming features are "positive" to the game
Katana67 replied to bioned's topic in General Discussion
What in the actual fuck are you all talking about? -
Yeah, I mean stealth is non-existent. Not choosing to fire doesn't constitute stealth. Or rather, it shouldn't constitute the only option. As of now, there are two options. Shoot/hack the zombie. Or run away. There's no third way of navigating around zombies without being seen/heard.
-
Yeah, supposed to be that way. Should be harder. And you are aware that food does replenish blood right? You have to eat enough until it says "energized" and then drink enough until it says "hydrated" and another icon will show up with "healing/healthy" on it and you'll start healing if you have any gone.

Why? Why is it immersion breaking to have a SCAR? MRADs are different, because no militaries have adopted them at all (even though there is a Czech distributor of Barrett Rifles, including the M98B). I wouldn't mind them being included, but that's not a coherent example. Cheytacs are similar, being adopted in small numbers by only a few militaries (four IIRC, one of them is Poland). The SCAR has been adopted by a multitude of militaries and law-enforcement agencies globally... globally... Never mind that the SCAR is provided for in the fiction of ARMA. And even if DayZ isn't solely in the Armaverse, the United States was in Chernarus at some point. The United States is the largest user/producer of SCARs. From EVERY angle, the SCAR is plausible in Chernarus. People just somehow still think it's a prototype or special. One question - Do you find the weapons in ARMA III immersion breaking?
-
I just think it should be separated from the SKS we've got already. I am usually a huge fan of "realism", but I don't really mind having some artificial limitations. Like for example, cutting down the LRS use on the Mosin. I don't mind that the LRS is on the Mosin, but just to justify how common the Mosin is... I feel it should be neutered in some meaningful way. You wouldn't find a Belgian-designed weapon in fictional Chernarus? Funny that FN makes both the SCAR and FAL then. Not gonna' sit here and continue to justify what already is plausible. SCAR's are employed by a variety of militaries, including Eastern European and European ones. Nevermind the fictional reasonings for it. Why people view it as somehow unreasonable is quite beyond me.

/shrug Works fine for me. Zombies don't spawn pre-aggro'd when I kill one. And no additional pre-existing zombies aggro me. -

Interested to see how they handle suppressors though. The one on the FNX doesn't work either. Can one attach a suppressor to the CR 75? Only suppressed weapon that seems to work is the Amphibia S. -
You'll be good. I have a similar setup, albeit a bit older (i5 2500k and EVGA 670 4GB) and I run DayZ fine on mostly high settings at 1920x1080. 40 fps is my average I'd say.

DayZ should always be about survival...
Katana67 replied to Mukaparska's topic in General Discussion
I mean there's a difference in some things (like having the ability to build a base versus having the ability to build a fully-functioning base). For example, I'd love to be able to create a base. But throwing security cameras and keypad locks on stuff isn't something I think is in the spirit of DayZ. However, as per my own outlook, anything can be incorporated into DayZ so long as it abides by a few things. One, it abides by the fiction, which is relatively flexible. Second, and most importantly, is whether or not an item or action has consequence/risk. Survival, in its simplest form, is the effective management of consequence/risk. So if they want to include something, as per your example, like a security camera... it has to be justifiably difficult to find/create, operate, and maintain. For instance, if finding a camera was rare in itself. If finding an intact monitor was rare in itself. If POWERING said items required a functioning generator which produced noise and required fuel. All of which has to be done in a world with hostile players, zombies, and environments. Likewise, if a camera could be disabled if discovered, via small arms fire. Then I have no issue with it being in the game. -
Back when playing some mod (Overwatch, I think? Or maybe BP?) I was in a bush SW of Stary. It was dusk and quickly turning to night. I was fully geared. But I heard rustling in the little hedgerow in front of me. I had also heard some sniper fire really close to me. So I went prone for about an hour searching through these bushes trying to find someone. For all I knew, could've been a whole squad camped up in there. Never found anything. But was scary as shit proning through the bushes thinking I'd stumble upon someone.

Spawns On The East, Bet Everyone Thought It Was Stupid...
Katana67 replied to jacobahalls's topic in General Discussion
I sure hope so. At least in encouraging folks to be more mobile. They can stay along the coast, I'm fine with that, but just sitting in Cherno/Elektro/Berez/Svetlo is sort of silly. But as always, I think the "flow" (i.e. where people go) will be more various once a variety of systems are fully implemented. Like threatening zombies. If the main cities are packed with zombies, then I doubt as many newspawns would venture in. Vehicles. Increased significance of hunger/thirst. Weather. Persistent storage (big one). Construction. Maintaining weapons. Ammo rarity. Are all factors which dictate where people go. -
While I agree they need to re-order their priorities, to work on revamping aggro/stealth FIRST AND FOREMOST after getting the pathing right... I don't think there'd be any use in removing them.

Well your weapon is still out, sure, but it's not ready to fire. Which would be the case regardless, just by doing something other than aiming your weapon. But point taken, it's actually pretty snappy now that I think about it. I just have become so jaded that I don't even interact with folks to begin with. And play with a controller, so it's sort of cumbersome for me to fiddle with the gestures on the F1-12 bit of my keyboard.

Is the CR75 actually a CZ75? It doesn't look like it :/
Katana67 replied to tatchell (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I don't mind it, as it just goes to show that they're taking liberties with weapons already in terms of the fiction. And these weapons have not been the brunt of the "immersion breaking" complaints. So the futility in applying pure real-world circumstance to fictional-ass Chernarus is exposed. -

Katana67 replied to tatchell (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
In DayZ, CZ (Ceska Zbrojovka) is Chernaruska Zbrojovka. So, they could've called it CZ still, but it's a fictional company making the CR 75. So, in the real-world, CZ is comprised of two words, whereas CR in DayZ appears to just represent "Chernaruska." Not sure if they wanted to do that due to copywright, or they were just being cutesey with the fiction, or they wanted to incorporate some of the discrepancies (i.e. an apparently threaded barrel) from the real-world CZ 75 SP-01 SHADOW into the fiction. -
I think it was inbound, I swear I remember reading something on Reddit saying they were working on it. I never really saw the use in gestures, at least in the opening stages of player interaction. I'd much rather have my weapon out than be pressing my finger to my lips to gesture to be quiet. If only because of the clumsy transitions inherent in RV (and all video games for that matter). Where it makes sense, is with folks in your group. But even then, like you say, these people probably communicate via TS. Which further exemplifies how third-party comms programs are a detriment. This is a mechanic which would be wholly useful and rewarding if third-party comms programs were a non-issue. Same with whispering. Same with walkie talkies. Same with in-game radio stations. Same with vehicles. Same with squad coordination. All decent in-game mechanics rendered irrelevant/useless or made exponentially easier by the use of third-party comms programs.

Honest to god I don't really know how to make a good assertion without sounding vaguely sexist. But here goes. I think the Walking Dead comparison is good in that it exemplifies what DayZ is not. There is no robust social interaction in DayZ, it's one-dimensional at this point. Emotion isn't really a factor, at least for me (and most of the KoS crowd I suspect) simply due to the lack of in-game mechanics encouraging emotional attachment. The Walking Dead is much moreso about emotional attachment and character interrelationships. I'm not trying to say that women are somehow more interested or more susceptible to media which features emotional attachments and interrelationships. But everyone, male and female included, can relate to media which features coherent characters and emotional bonds. Which is why I think the Walking Dead has a broader audience.
