  1. I really hope this is a factor when vehicles get introduced. Preferably not like the ARMA vehicle damage system where your vehicle just instantly starts burning and is useless from thereon. Blowing out tires, halving engine blocks, causing rollovers would be awesome. I don't want IEDs to just be guaranteed insta-death for vehicles. Having to get out after striking one, wounded, and defend your vehicle from ambushing players and rushing zombies would be a great experience for DayZ. But not sure if I'd necessarily want AP IEDs, I think loading powder for a breaching charge (i.e. when construction gets implemented) would be a better purpose for that. But not entirely opposed to it!

    CQC in ARMA/DayZ has always been pretty rough. ACE (I think?) made some marked improvements. But when just opening/closing a door is a chore, people sidestep and rubberband, and people can peer around corners with third person, I don't really care what weapon I'm using to clear buildings.
  3. In this instance (with regard to FPS, sure, although I have a pretty decent system and often dip below 30 as well) sure. But in the mod, and I'm sure the Standalone, I can cite multiple instances where I've been spotted solely because the person had ATOC off. Otherwise, it would have been physically impossible for these people to see me.
  4. I have no issue with lower end systems being able to tweak stuff, but there are ways in which it can be done so that it doesn't give people an advantage. ATOC is a great example, it changes the overall profile of the tree. So, why not just scale the model of the vanilla tree with an ATOC'd tree? The effect of "plumage" is still there when ATOC is turned on, but it doesn't magically SHRINK the tree when it's turned off. Same goes with LOD, the LOD textures often times don't match their fully rendered counterparts. Why not just match them (in terms of profile, not quality)? Either way, I consider the equality of experience to supersede availability/accessibility. But that's just me.

    I highly, highly, doubt that BIS would want zombies arbitrarily attached to the same timeline as ARMA III. However, I agree that the most prudent thing to do is to attach it in some way to the same universe. I would prefer it to just be a separate timeline from ARMA III, branching off after the events of ARMA II. Perhaps the terms "Armaverse" and "DayZ Armaverse" are apt.

    Yeah, I didn't mean to be a grammar Nazi. The proper usage would be incoherent/incongruous, or just "out of place." Of course, I'm suggesting these weapons should be rare. Not common. "...it doesnt match the look and feel of the game so far and I doubt players would want to see these", after I've made my case... this is always where people go. It doesn't match the "look and feel" of the game. Did it not match the "look and feel" of the game in ARMA, in DayZ mod? I never had an issue with these weapons in either game. Because they're both fictional, and within said fiction, the presence of these weapons is explained. "Look and feel" of the game is subjective at best (nothing wrong with that, but you can't suppose something subjective as objective). I just fail to see how finding a very rare AR-10/SCAR/M14 every now and again somehow breaks immersion. Bear in mind, I'm not saying that we should REMOVE Warsaw Pact weapons. I like them just as much as the next guy. They're in the game and more are on the way (AKM and SVD). They aren't going away.
  8. I agree with a lot of this as well. Although the folks here have sort of convinced me that subsonic ammo isn't necessarily worth pursuing, but I still think it might be useful. As to the physics you're describing with regard to weapon mobility, I like them, but I'm not sure it's plausible/likely given the extreme granularity of what you're suggesting.
  9. To me, at least in terms of graphics/UI settings, they need to be standardizing the experience. I'm tired of wondering whether someone can see me hiding in a tree just because they have ATOC turned off. I'm tired of wondering whether someone can see me just because they now have rabbit eyes via their jacked up FOV. I'm tired of gamma being used as the only way of navigating coherently in the night. Give a little bit of play, but don't punish people who want their game to look pretty.

    Because people have a warped conception of where DayZ is situated (i.e. Chernarus), and a warped perception of modern real-world weapon distribution/usage. We can discuss likelihood that the developers will include a lot of the stuff I'm suggesting, I doubt they will. But that's not going to stop me from advocating for weapons that I believe to be useful. But the main default reaction of "this is a post-Soviet/Eastern European/Russian state! These areas are completely bereft of these weapons! WTF?" is completely irrelevant from both a fictional and "realistic" perspective. Moreover, anyone discarding the mere premise of these weapons whilst at the same time embracing the current lineup of weapons (i.e. M4A1 w/ "Western" accessories, M1911, Amphibian S, FN FNX) is a hypocrite. Either way, I don't WAN'T another pure effing post-Soviet apocalypse. The STALKER franchise exists. The Metro 2033 franchise exists. And even those incorporate NATO or fictional weaponry into their fiction.

    I don't care what the majority of folks want, I care what I want. The title of the thread wasn't, "What do you think everyone wants in the game" nor was it "What do you want that's plausible in the game," in which cause I would've posted the same thing regardless. And seeing as Torchia recently spotted a kitted out Luvo AR-10 in a local weapons shop in Prague, I'd say it's perhaps the most likely of all of them. I'd much rather he put in a 16"-20" AR-10 than fool around with a mid-length AR-15 like he expressed interest in. People posted pink chainsaws for fuck's sake, and my post wanting battle rifles gets the ire?

    /sigh Many modern former Soviet and Eastern European countries use NATO weaponry. Including SCARs (Lithuania, Serbia, Croatia, Poland, etc), AR-10 variants (Germany, Latvia, Poland), and AR-15s (Georgia, Czech Republic, Croatia, Poland, Serbia, etc.) G3s and FALs are pretty ubiquitous these days as well. I doubt one would find a DSA FAL or railed G3 in Eastern Europe, but I doubt one would find a FNX, modified Kimber Warrior, or Mk II suppressed there either. To say nothing of vanilla FAL and G3 variants, which are present in Eastern Europe. Estonia ALONE has 40,000 M14's in surplus. The US/UN was in Chernarus prior to the outbreak. So most US-issue weapons are plausibly to be found as rare items in Chernarus. Realism doesn't apply explicitly to a fictional medium, see both maxims in my signature. Czech company (the country upon which the landscape of Chernarus is based), Luvo Prague (http://www.luvo.cz/), manufactures kitted-out AR-10's and distributes Barrett products. Take your pick. And either way, the title of the thread is "what would you add if you could", those are what I'd add. And as an aside, anachronistic means "Erroneous in date, containing an anachronism, in a wrong time." Has nothing to do with the place.

    M4A1 was first used in the mid-late 1990s. The configuration we see in DayZ (i.e. with the LE stock) wasn't put out until 2001/2002. 40 round PMAGs only came out in 2013. Still doesn't give us an idea of when DayZ is taking place. Can't take real-world properties for granted. Could still be earlier. But I assume it's modern-day. The inclusion of certain items, although I agree with you, doesn't necessarily mean we're playing in the same universe/timeline as ARMA. This is what I'm thinking, same universe, different tangents. Split off after the events of ARMA II.

    This would be a great in-game feature (which I'm sure has been suggested many times). +1 I miss the days of having universal map markers, so I'd mark camps for the whole server to see! To underscore the stupidity of like-systems (i.e. side-chat). But having this be a feature of player-specific maps would be great, especially once persistent storage is added. As an aside, I think this is typical in how many people play. And is sort of sad, as very little of the map is actually used.

    While I think that our options for hiding stuff will be better (i.e. smaller, camouflaged, etc.) the amount of space necessary to sustain these things, whilst at the same time remaining clandestine, is still relevant (not saying you're saying it isn't). Point being, even if they allow us to better camouflage our stashes, the effect won't be a significant because we're playing in a smaller area (in terms of the wilderness). To say nothing of basebuilding.

    Well, the argument I'd make there is that they've already created their own unique universe, the Armaverse. DayZ can still do whatever it wants within that universe. Or perhaps, a tangential universe is required (i.e. one that takes the events of ARMA II as lore, but diverges from the universe at that point as to not mess with future ARMA titles). I don't think wholly abandoning the Armaverse is even possible, given that DayZ is set in Chernarus.

    Liberal, regulation-loving, educated, American firearm owner here! Sounds like you've made some sweeping generalizations there! On topic... Yes, I get bored with the game. But it's fairly early on in the process, in the next few quarters, I'm sure there'll be much more stuff to do to keep us occupied. That said, dying to re-gear a new character shouldn't be the only form of repeatable/persistent fun in DayZ.

    Vitriol aside, they're doing an adequate job. Not exemplary, but no major pitfalls as of yet. They've been very up front with us for the past year on some of their setbacks.

    Yes, it's adequate. Not exemplary, but adequate. Would I rather they post regular changelogs rather than leave us in the dark on Experimental? Sure. Would I rather they give out more informative devblogs? Maybe. Would I rather they pay more attention to the forums? Yeah. Would I rather they consolidate their information stream rather than have it be divided amongst the forums, Twitter, Reddit, and conventional news outlets? Absolutely. Do I understand why they're doing what they're doing now? Abso-effing-lutely. I'm more concerned with their reasoning, specifically Torchia's, for doing certain things. Nothing wrong with it, it's just that their thought process is at times incoherent.

    I mean, if I just greased somebody with a shit ton of gear outside a PvP clusterfuck, I wouldn't stand in the middle of a field downing every morsel of food that very instant... That's just me talkin' EDIT - Is anyone perplexed by the author's vernacular? Terrorists? Come on now...
  22. Has anyone encountered a hack where a player spawns on top of a building? On experimental servers? SE-04? I was in Svetlo earlier, inside one of the three-story buildings, and started taking fire. Thought it was from afar, so I went down a flight of stairs and then ducked into a corner. Was pretty sure I was in cover, but got shot anyway and died. Chocked it up to maybe the player was on top of one of the roofs in Svetlo (because one can get there via scaffolding). However... I respawned in Berezino, and looted for a while. Then was making my way out, started taking fire again. Turned around to see where it was coming from, and there was a dude on top of a house... all alone... in the middle of a field shooting at me. He was no more than 50m away, so I could see him pretty well. Ducked behind a fence, guy lit the fence up, I died. Are people able to get onto rooftops of random buildings now or am I missing something?
  23. Anyone who thinks logout timers are a solution, or even a huge detriment to server hopping, needs to rethink that position. Logout timers are not the answer. They are a stop-gap, and an ineffective one at that.

    I think that the cities need to be de-emphasized. Mostly through making them suicidal for newspawns (in terms of zombies). And possibly through limiting loot. Cities should be places to which the majority of players return once appropriately geared. Not where people stay 24/7. I'm alright with the eastern spawns. I just think they'll eventually need to use the entire coast rather than just a slice of it. I miss Kamenka spawns.
