We don't need melee weapons, maps, or chat to have fun... yet we have these things. We don't need much of anything in DayZ. I don't think anyone has said, "We need defecation to make DayZ fun finally!"
-
You're reading real-world values into something that's both hypothetical (i.e. hasn't been implemented/finalized yet) and something that may not be intended to be a 1:1 simulation of reality (i.e. the hunger/thirst system). I don't care about how "realistic" it is to defecate, I care about what it (as a mechanic) can offer the experience. Realism doesn't seem to matter to Rocket, as his discussion about this very issue has been solely focused on how it can effect gameplay (rather than justifying it through emulation of reality). Yes, if you're dying of dehydration, you've done something wrong. Or luck hasn't been in your favor. Hence the "survival" genre moniker of DayZ. Thus creating a potentiality for desperation, thus requiring someone to drink potentially contaminated water just to survive.
-
What if, within that 15/20/30 minutes that a player is waiting for the water to boil, your character dies or faints from dehydration? What if "rubbing two sticks together" isn't made an option and fire-starting requires specific items, items which a player may not have? Again, if a player doesn't have purifying tablets or the means to boil water, yet needs to drink it, he/she may be susceptible to disease when the water is drunk out of necessity. It's about managing risk.
-
Then that'll place an emphasis on finding purifying tablets, which could be made suitably rare. Likewise, players who contaminate water supplies are contaminating that water supply for THEMSELVES as well. Obviously, the only way defecation could work with a minimal amount of abuse is to jack up the significance of survival through an increased reliance on water. Which can be done a number of ways (most of which center around making X rare/difficult).
-
Maybe you don't have a choice? You need to drink to survive in DayZ, said need to drink doesn't/won't always come at a time where one has purifying tablets.
-
It's a purposeful method of contaminating a water supply, driven by the player. Other than snagging a vial of E. coli, putting bodily fluids into a water supply is a sure-fire way to contaminate it. I don't really hear people talking in DayZ unless they're close enough for Direct Chat, so I doubt people screaming anything would be much of an issue. Much less it being different than now, where I imagine people scream about a myriad of silly things.
-
I mean, it can be rendered in a relatively tasteful way. It doesn't have to be "Player takes down pants, brown fecal matter is excreted, fecal matter is persistent." Could be something as, relatively, benign as "Player squats, defecation sounds happen, player stands up again." Certainly doesn't have to be graphic.

Loot respawn is essential. Combined with the loot management on the hive (whenever they get around to it), it will be great. Although, anyone who says that loot respawn will magically fix/impede server hopping is absolutely high off their ass.

Reduce sway of bipodded weapon in prone
Katana67 replied to Ovomaltine's topic in General Discussion
I think a re-tweaking of the current bipod mechanics, the addition of a "natural" support system as in ACE, and a craftable/deployable set of shooting sticks would make for a great overall "supported shooting" mechanic. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/187485-supported-shooting-how-should-it-be-done/ -
I'd assume animating it would be a bigger impediment than just picking a model. Probably requires a different reload and/or manual of arms animation entirely.
-
Assuming that they end up making the flashlight available for the MP5, this is how I'd like to see it rendered.
-
I don't think they've really got any message from anybody. They're clearly just doing their own thing, creating a fictional lineup of weapons for fictional Chernarus. Do I support all of the weapon inclusions? Maybe. Does it ruin the experience for me? Not in the slightest. Torchia has expressed interest in a FN FAL, HK G3, and a mid-length AR-15. I don't think so-called "high-end" (whatever meaning you ascribe to that) weaponry is going anywhere. Just the same, I don't think so-called "civilian" weaponry is going anywhere either. We can all have our cake and eat it together at the table of brotherhood. I say bring it on, so long as certain weapons are justifiably rare, I have no issue with so-called "high-end"/"obscure"/"tactical" weaponry.
-
I agree on that one, I think all of the weapons need to look used (not ruined, as many apocalyptic depictions seem to depict). Although, the MP5K is pretty common in the grand scheme of things. I get what you mean by it "doesn't feel as common," most shortened version of weapons aren't as common as their larger cousins. However, the MP5K has always been associated (for me) with cheesy 80s/90s action movies (think Steven Seagal). But, that doesn't cause me to think it wouldn't be good for DayZ. I would certainly just prefer a full-length MP5, if only for ease of mounting attachments. The MP5K is fairly limited in the available attachment area by comparison to the full-length MP5s.

Or the AUG, as Austria is pretty dern close to Czech and Eastern Europe. Or the Tavor, now manufactured in-house in the Ukraine. Or the F2000, standard issue in Slovenia. Plenty of options for bullpups (plenty more in non assault rifle form too). Pretty sure Vepr is out of Ukraine as well, could be wrong. But I agree, I'd definitely like to see a Warsaw Pact bullpup first. Perhaps a Groza? I'm not a huge fan of the Vepr's look, although it's pretty hard to make a bullpup AK look good. And, I suspect Warsaw Pact bullpups are rarer than most Western so-called "tacticool" weapons, even in "their region".
-
Not all bullpups. I've fired the civilian Tavor here in the US, the trigger is pretty dern snappy. Never held an AUG, but they're known to have crappy triggers (although I think the issue has been remedied in the newer Australian F88s). Can't say about the L85. It's harder to make a decent trigger for a bullpup, but it can be done. Plus, it's not like they can/should really render "Your finger pushes in a bit more than usual on the trigger" in-game. Have they said they don't want a bullpup? I'm sure they'll get around to one eventually.

It is, or will be, west of Svetlojarsk. They seem to be moving gradually westward along the northern highway. Fourth box from the right.
-
Doubt it'll be very useful, but interesting! Keep em' comin' devs! I need more weapons to add to my list...
-
I'm confused, the MP5 pictured above features polymer furniture. Much more than the MP5K. Not sure how a "metal" MP5 would somehow fit the setting more. And it's not like the MP5K is somehow more modern than a vanilla MP5, one came out in 1966 and the other came out in 1976. They're both pretty old. If I had my way, I'd put this in... or at least make it an option via looted parts. But I suspect the he-man-modern-weapon-hater's club would have a shit fit. Nothing against vanilla MP5s.
-
With ATOC on, always.
-
It's also fictional too! Nevermind that many Eastern European, post-Soviet, and former Warsaw Pact nations now employ HK gear (including MP5s). I'd posit that the MP5 platform is one of the most, if not the most, widely used SMG platforms to date. There isn't any hard divide between East and West anymore in terms of firearms, there hasn't been for a while now. Sure, there are preferences, but the line is far greyer than most people assume. On-topic. Hopefully it has a stock, hopefully it's a lootable item if not. Hard for me to believe they'd make it without a foregrip as standard. To be honest, I would've preferred they'd've gone with a full-length MP5 rather than an MP5K. And I hope it does indeed have either a looted rail or a rail-as-standard.
-
As long as third-party comms exist and are unmitigated, the walkie talkies will be a seldom-used item at best and a wasted effort at worst.
-
Judging by the fact that the pistol flashlight and suppressor do not ACTUALLY show on the weapon, I'd say it's bugged/WIP. Likewise, if they do intend on making the P38 suppressed, it probably is prohibitive to design a whole new model able to mount a suppressor. Especially when the end result is the same. And you can have that opinion, but it isn't really backed up by any kind of trend in terms of the game.
-
I stand corrected, I took the FNX into account in every count save for the middle.
-
Oh please, the only weapon that has "unrealistic" optics so far is the Mosin. That's one weapon out of eleven. One out of four weapons able to mount optics. One out of seven optics/weapon combinations. I won't rehash the old argument (you know where I stand regarding the LRS and Mosin). But saying it's "the way the game is going" is disingenuous.

Removal of South Coast spawns can't be due to Balota
Katana67 replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
I don't think it's solely because of Balota, but it's just a blanket loot system that isn't biased at all. I'd like to see it biased inland.
