Would You Support A Gun Shop Loot Location?

Gun cabinets would be interesting, could essentially just be a re-purposing of the fridges that they plan on implementing. However, I still fail to see why finding guns in a gun store doesn't make sense. Whilst finding <insert specific loot spawning in specific building> doesn't make sense. The "this is what would happen in an apocalypse" line of argument is shaky at best, as well. Myriad of factors which could leave certain buildings/areas with decent loot still in them.

What's the issue with the first one? There's plenty of discrepancies between the real-life area where Chernarus is based, and the actual rendered Chernarus. Not sure it's applicable to any degree. Doubt there's many barracks or airports near Usti nad Labem (or whatever it's called). Point being, the reason you gave isn't an actual reason... as the area is just used as a generalized basis, there are many discrepancies between Chernarus and the area in Czech which it is modeled after. There's a massive sea as well, which is nowhere to be found in landlocked Czech Republic. To your second point, several things. One, I'm suggesting that the current spawn paradigm for the piano house be shifted to an appropriate building. Second, there are already buildings which regularly spawn weapons, which are susceptible to server hopping and camping [which isn't a bad thing]. Would be best to fix server hopping, rather than let it dictate what can be included in the game. Third, how? It's a venue for loot, just the same as any other building. It's just a building that makes sense to have a higher degree of weapon spawns, just like the piano building we've got now (only it's not some random residential building). And it's not like the now stated background of Chernarus doesn't provide for a myriad of weapons, having a gun store in or out isn't going to change that.

Agreed, although I think it could be used to supplement what we've already got. I mean, they have some weapon spawns in odd places (specifically the office/school and piano house). I don't see what's wrong with just offloading some of that weapon spawn chance into a new building where it's more plausible to find weapons. My sole justification is the use of non-specific buildings for specific loot. Like the piano house, it's just a random house. Yet it spawns weapons at a higher rate than other residential buildings. You could put weapon spawns in a paper bag with tweaking the loot tables, but would it make sense? Debatable. Agreed, I'm all for decentralization of weapon spawns (although I think the majority of what I'd do has already been done, just to a lesser degree. Meaning have residential buildings have the remote capability to spawn weapons). Same logic applies to the supermarket. It should be empty, because people "would" clear it out if the apocalypse were happening. We have to remember that this is a game, so buildings must have a purpose. Hence why the supermarket spawns sparse food and other random loot. I'm merely suggesting the same treatment for weapons, via the inclusion of a new building model that makes sense.

The way I understand the loot, is that it's a bit more modular now than the military/industrial/residential/medical dynamic was in the mod. Could be wrong, as the buildings themselves are still classified as such, but the fact that the piano building specifically spawns a higher rate of weapons was suggestive to me. Same goes for the top floor of the office/school building, which always spawns weapons/ammo. I think it's based upon individual loot spawn points now. If they added a gunshop, I'd want whatever spawns in the piano house to spawn there (as of now SKS, Mosin, Sporter, Shotgun, Revolver??).

    Would you want Persistent Bandages?

Definitely an idea that I hadn't even considered. Would be great, maybe the player could remove them after his/her wound has "healed". I always liked in RDR when you got shot, the blood stained your clothes for a bit. I don't think it'd be that hard to implement, would just need an adjusted bandage/rag model to wrap around the legs, arms, torso, or head. I don't think any more granular awareness of "where you got shot" is necessary.

Would You Support A Gun Shop Loot Location?

Agreed, although I do think you can slow the process down a bit. As of now, it's pretty easy to just sprint into a building, loot, then dip out with no real risk. Having to negotiate more threatening zombies is a big deal, in my opinion, in making looting more of a risky endeavor.

Chernarus isn't Russia. Either way, as far as I know, there are gun shops in Russia.

    Small, meaningless, yet rare items

One aspect of traditional RPGs that I'd like to see imported to DayZ is the idea of legendary/exceptional items. Not in terms of quality, but just in terms of uniqueness. For example, I'd like to see certain towns have unique items, which could just be as simple as a lore item explaining what happened in a given town. Or it could be somebody's old muzzleloader with "Ol' Bess" carved into the stock. With the pace that they appear to be pumping out items, I don't foresee this type of thing happening for a while though. They still have a lot of generic items to include.

To be clear, this is just intended to place the weapons which already spawn in the piano house into a more appropriate building. Nothing is being added, in terms of overall weapon spawns. There'd be nothing special about the gun shop versus the piano building, save for the actual model of the building.

    Ghillie suit, rangefinder ?

And when exactly did I say rare weapons shouldn't be rare? Please, illuminate where I said this. Please outline, for me, because I'm such a dern fool... where I suggested that a certain weapon should be common. And they admitted it's because of developmental pragmatism, and they admitted it's provided for in the fiction of Chernarus... thereby making it authentic in the fiction. You equate realism with authenticity, they are distinct concepts as employed by the developers. Realism is an emulation of reality. Authenticity, as used by game developers, is an emphasized balance between realism and fiction. Yep, if a weapon is present in a country, then it is plausibly to be found there. Last I checked, we weren't purchasing weapons in DayZ. What you're keying in on is rarity, something which hasn't been touched. You're confusing rarity with the mere presence of a weapon.
  11. Katana67

Would You Support A Gun Shop Loot Location?

Okay, well supermarkets spawning sparse food is a feature of the game. Why are gun shops spawning sparse weapons (which is already happening in the piano house building) any different?

Why Devs should allow early modding

Dunno if I've commented on this particular thread before, but I'm not in favor of modding for DayZ, especially at an early stage. I love modding, DayZ owes its existence to it. But as was the case in the mod (ironic), mods just hemorrhaged players from the vanilla experience to things which resembled DayZ in name only.

    Server warnings before restart.

I would just rather they get to a point where servers don't need to be restarted frequently.

While I don't see camping as much of a problem, as there are now an absolute ton of centralized weapon spawns (i.e. piano houses and police stations in almost every town in Chernarus), I agree that it may make things a bit less formulaic.
  15. Katana67

Would You Support A Gun Shop Loot Location?

Well, what's the difference between this and the police station/piano house we've got now? I'm merely suggesting moving the weapon spawns we've already got in the piano house, to a new building. By that logic, supermarkets should be wholly empty as well.
  16. Melee is a different story. I've never been satisfied with the melee system, nor the way in which zombies actually impart damage to the player. Honestly, I don't really care for melee at all. But that's just me talkin'. I've never really had an issue with hitreg with the firearms in DayZ/ARMA. There's of course, a difference between desync and hitreg.
  17. Katana67

    Ghillie suit, rangefinder ?

Metro is fiction, just the same as DayZ. Metro is far less authentic than DayZ, given the fact that many of its weapons simply do not exist... at all... Never said the Czech Republic was Texas, or that everyone was running around with SCAR-Hs. But cool, keep confirming my assertion that you fallaciously equate "Western weaponry" with "weapons everywhere." And keep ignoring the STATED fact that Chernarus was host to NATO/US military forces. And I guess the fact that AR-15s/AR-10s are manufactured in Czech doesn't apply to your assertion of realism. Or the fact that the ACR uses M60s/M4s/Mk 48s/M107s. Or the fact that there's a Barrett rifle distributor in Czech. Never mind the rest of Eastern Europe, wouldn't want to get me started on that because it'd entirely debase your argument. Or the fact that Uzis/Sterlings/G3s/FALs/M9s can be found in humdrum Czech gun shops. So you're saying that expensive weapons shouldn't be included in the game? Based upon their cost? Which argument do you intend on sticking with? You're now asserting that weapons cannot be included based on their likelihood in real life of being purchased. No, the sequence of them adding weapons is entirely irrelevant. It's not any more logical for them to add a Makarov first than it is for them to add a 1911 first, especially when the possibily exists for them to both be in the final release. What difference does it make which one comes first if they both may come eventually? Fuck right off with the personal shit though, I'm not mentioning you, merely your arguments. So don't call me "gun crazy," focus on the argument please and knock it off with the vitriol.
  18. Sidechat was toxic, and that's all it ever was. 70% whining about getting killed, 20% whining about not getting a ride to NWAF, 5% trolling, and 5% actually doing things constructively. Was like having a bright neon blue 4chan feed grafted to my eyeballs while playing DayZ. I am so god damn glad it's gone, never look back BIS... never look back. In-fact, I would support you somehow ripping the code for sidechat/global chat altogether, make it impossible. Cut the hard line! If it were a server option, then servers without it would be dead, because people are imbeciles and don't recognize the detriments. Absolutely no reason, from both a gameplay and "realism" perspective, why the player should get INSTANT and CONSEQUENCE-LESS access to a means of global communication. You've already got your silly TS for that if you need it. The only way I'd EVER, EVER, want it to return... is if they made text chat an ability through walkie talkies (not sure if this is the case currently, I haven't picked up a walkie ever). And even then, it should have a finite range. And it wasn't a hated feature, masses of people adored/adore sidechat. But just like McDonalds and Justin Bieber, something being popular doesn't mean it's good.

    Ghillie suit, rangefinder ?

Seeing as Metro has a large lineup of downright fictional weapons, akin to Fallout, I'd say it's pretty damn unrealistic. So not sure what relevance it has. Never mind that Metro is STATED TO TAKE PLACE IN RUSSIA, not a fictional state (even though Metro itself is fictional). So it does support my argument, because the weapons are unrealistic even then in Metro (there's a P90/AK hybrid... I mean, come on). Which proves to me, that you all don't really have a coherent argument, you're just basing your assessment on your "feeling" around an aesthetic. If you were concerned about realism, well, have a look at the variety of weapons to be found in Eastern Europe and weep. If you're concerned about "immersion," look at the now-clarified fictional reasoning for "Western/NATO weaponry" in Chernarus and weep again. You seem to equate "Western weapons" with meaning "guns everywhere," which is a fallacy. They haven't even touched rarity. Never mind that immersion is subjective, and if you were expecting the developers to emulate pure reality, then you were mistaken from the get-go. They've been very clear about finding a balance, and the reality of the Czech Republic (i.e. the country that they're using to deem their weapons lineup, not to mention Eastern Europe as a whole) provides for a variety of weapons, see the quoted statement in my signature. Never mind the game development pragmatism consideration. And never mind the fictional explanation for these weapons in-game. Again, from every angle, these weapons are reasonable in-game. From both a "realistic" and "fictional" point of view.

Right Trigger Now Executes Melee Attacks

Why does it matter? On-topic, this still isn't the case for the vanilla unmapped control scheme. I still have to switch over to my mouse to hit with a melee weapon.

    Torchia's Improved M1911 Textures

Merely suggesting that I don't like an aesthetic, the reasoning behind it doesn't necessarily matter to me. I just don't like weapons looking beat to shit.

Weapons will be reloadable from loose ammo

Right, but I liked needing a speedloader to reload properly for certain weapons. I agree that on single-shot weapons it makes sense, but just having to press R to chamber a round (even though I do like it) diminishes the disparity between reloading with a speedloader and without. I foresee them needing to tweak the reload times with R to chamber a round later on.

Weapons will be reloadable from loose ammo

Is there a source? I think it'd diminish the significance of speedloaders on certain weapons.

    Torchia's Improved M1911 Textures

I like that it looks roughed up and used. I want to see more of that. Not RUINED like most apocalyptic games seem to think, with Scotch tape and popsicle sticks holding the barrel on... but just, not brand spankin' new.
