I don't know about you, but every video game I've played with super zombies (including L4D) allowed me to take them down by myself. So, I think it's a bit presumptuous to think that super zombies would magically encourage people to band together. Hordes are different, I'm talking in the hundreds, where if you fire a weapon... you had better be ready to dump most of your ammo... as they could all aggro and rush you at once. Hordes should be more prudent to navigate around, rather than fight outright. Patient Zero, as a super zombie, doesn't make sense to me. While I potentially support the idea of finding a Biological Weapons Lab, or something, I don't think it should be such a cliche as to be attempting to produce super zombies (or ostensibly, super humans). Just a virus that was kept in storage, was accidentally released, or just a naturally occurring virus without a lab to create it. I'd rather they make the vanilla zombies more threatening, than put distractions like super zombies in. They've been pretty unequivocal about their disdain for super zombies anyhow, so it's certainly unlikely to happen.
-
Nah... I'm good. They've stated that they're not interested in super zombies, and are set on implementing a variety of zombies based upon "authentic" properties. Super zombies are pretty laughable if you ask me, but to each their own. Made L4D scary, that's for sure. Sprinters (the majority), shamblers (the minority), crawlers (the rare outlier) should be all they need. Up the damage, tune the stealth, make respawning less insane, up the numbers again significantly, implement wandering hordes. Should be a done deal.

Will we have acog and red dot combo and etc.

Well, every weapon they've included so far as been pretty "modern." And they've expressed interest in a G3, FAL, and mid-length AR-15. Lord knows what they're not telling us. Not to mention that the AKM, SVD, and MP5K are inbound. But the vitriol of "tacticool" rages on. Seeing as we've got ACOGs, Aimpoints, Magpul furniture, RMR sights, suppressors, C-Mags, and the like... I'd say us non-discriminatory folks are pretty well-represented. -

Look at dem' optics! (Russian SF) Look at dem' optics! (Libya) Look at dem' optics! (Chad) Look at dem' tens of thousands of dollars worth of optics! (Russian civilians) Look at dem' optics! (Vanilla Russian troops) Look at dem' optics! (Syria) Look at dem' optics! (Kenya) Look at dem' optics! (Latvia) It just doesn't end! Oh the humanity! -

What does the XM-25 have anything to do with anything? And optics are less-subject to arms regulation. EOTechs and the like are used by vanilla Russian troops these days. Not sure what the price of an optic has to do with whether or not it should be included in DayZ. Or whether or not it'd be in Chernarus, as it's fictional. -
What I predict DayZ will achieve by the end of the year.

Comparing the status of DayZ Standalone to DayZ mod is like comparing an apple to an elephant. Yeah, you can try to do it, but you're still going to end up with an apple and elephant in the end... because they're two different concepts. -
Just a subtle jab at our Commonwealth cousins. Really, is pronounced... reel-ee. That is what it is, just phonetically, that is how it's pronounced. Not REAL-EHHH, as some kinda' grubby Midlands (used to live there) cowgirl would say. In other news, I'm sure some folks in the UK could tear apart most accents coming out of Dixie these days.

Luckily, most "attachments" these days use the 1913 rail interface. So regardless of the weapon, most attachments will be able to fit it somehow. Or, on the other hand, do you even keymod bro? That said, I hope they have BUIS and/or Docter sights available at some point for our magnified optics. The ACOG model we've got now has the standard irons, just a matter of rendering them an allowing us to toggle them. Should definitely be a top-tier sight, or a combination (i.e. having to loot a RMR and ACOG separately). I think you raise a good point about attachments, we have mountains of discussion regarding weapons. But comparatively little about attachments. SpecterDR for me please. Or some kinda' short-dot lookin' optic, might be inbound with the Longhorn. I don't know much about Warsaw Pact/Russian optics, but would love to have em' as well! -
Day Zee all day. I still maintain that us over here in the colonies speak English in the most correct manner that exists today, as opposed to those guttersnipes across the pond.

Have the devs addressed the gamma night vision issue?
Katana67 replied to Johnny Depth's topic in General Discussion
No idea if this was a mod or if it's vanilla ARMA III. I just recall the discussion and demonstration. -
And why do we care what people think of them? People will hate on sniping until the end of time, because it doesn't suit their preconceived notions of "fairness". The people who bitch about getting sniped are the same people that bitch about being killed in general.
-
I think any "thinning of the herd" will be temporary. People will learn the ropes, get good at it, and be sniping just as well. If anything, those who snipe will be more effective with a "realistic" and/or complex system. If one wants to snipe, he/she will do so. Making it more complex makes it more rewarding for me, but in so doing, all you're doing is just extending the learning curve.
-
Agreed. I hope finding a can of food becomes a rare occurance eventually. Only reason I ever hunted in the mod, was because cooked meat was the best way of getting blood back as a solo player (or arguably, as a player).
-
How is it childish? I really am intrigued by these moral connotations placed on sniping as an activity. I'm not sure how people sniping for fun is somehow less realistic/authentic either. Seems to be a common facet of SHTF scenarios, both fictional and factual. I wholeheartedly agree with you though, sniping needs to be made more infrequent (although it is much, much, much less prevalent than in the mod... by a lot) via loot. Honestly, while I'd like it to be "more complex" and think it will be, I don't think it'll make that much of a difference once people have become acclimated to it. Complexity doesn't mean difficulty.
-
Congratulations.

DayZ mod was/is almost two years in Alpha stage. /tickle

Say word? Sounds like fun. I hope it either is, or becomes, a much more involved process than in the mod.

Agreed, many things in terms of the landscape of Chernarus are left unexplained. In my personal backstory that I wrote a week or so ago, CFOR (Chernarus Force, an emulation of KFOR) had intercepted a shipment of weapons from neighboring Takistan. Could've been NAPA or Chedaki guerillas. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/186377-framework-for-lore-discussion/

It's got nothing to do with grammar, you misstated what you actually meant to inadvertently mean something else. I do it all of the time. It's not a big deal. The statement was in reference to these weapons, "MP40, the Sturmgewehr 44, the M1 Garand, Lee enfield, M44". Which are certainly widespread (save for perhaps the Garand) and are as equally to be found in a variety of locations as anywhere else (I mean they found truckloads of Sturmgewehrs in Syria for god's sake). It's based off of the Czech Republic, so, no, it's not based off of a Russian environment. Saying it's fiction means they can put anything in and have it be immersive (which is subjective, please don't suppose it as fact) by virtue of how it's explained in said fiction. Moreover, something being based off of something means it can deviate from the circumstances of the item it's based upon. So, for example, the AK-12. Not used by any military thus far. Can be explained by a simple adage "Chernarussian military units opted to purchase small quantities of AK-12's from neighboring Russia, in insert year here." That's how fiction renders plausible what is not factual. The goal is to provide "authenticity", which is an emulation of (not adherence to) realistic properties inasmuch as they serve gameplay. It's a balance between gameplay considerations and making us feel like we're existing in a world. Personally, I dislike how developers use authenticity. It's basically used to say "We're doing what we're doing".
-
Right, and I'd never suggest finding these types of weapons in a civilian area in DayZ. Merely suggesting that they're not obscure globally as to somehow preclude their mere inclusion. Not to mention that both are provided for in ARMA II's fiction.
-
Which is fine, as it's actually obscure/hyper-rare. The problem I've encountered, is that people think weapons like the AR-10 family (i.e. Mk 11/M110/SR-25/HK417/L129A1) are obscure. Or people that think the SCAR family, is obscure (able to be purchased by civilians, purchased in the thousands by USSOCOM, used by USSOCOM and other nations regularly to this day). Or that the Tavor is obscure (manufactured in Eastern Europe, used by a variety of militaries globally, able to be purchased by civilians). Are they the most popular weapons out there? Of course not. But they're not hidden away in some vault, they're actively being manufactured and employed by a variety of folks. By virtue of being mass-produced, most weapons, or weapon families certainly aren't obscure. The TDI Vector, is. The WA2000, is. The AS50, is.
-
Which weapons have less than 1000 owners in DayZ? Only one I could possibly see is the new Thompson Center pistol and perhaps the Amphibia S (although I doubt that one highly). And Chernarus isn't Soviet Russia. Whole point of the thread.
-
That's fine, and I agree, through rarity I am set free! The only ones that I actually consider obscure, that I would have in my "wishlist" (even though I don't mind any particular weapon being included, inasmuch as it's justifiably rare and provided-for in fiction) are the TDI Vector and AS50. And even then, there is a long list of like-weapons (i.e. SMGs and anti-materiel rifles) that I'd prefer/take over the two I mentioned. Still not opposed to their inclusion, though.

1. Nobody's saying American/Western/NATO should be common. In two years of posting, never seen anyone make that assertion. 2. Game breaking implies it breaks the game, having certain weapons which break "immersion" (which is what you're actually referring to) is a subjective opinion. Nothing wrong with it, but equating "immersion breaking" with "game breaking" isn't applicable. 3. By dictate of being fiction, weapons that are included are made immersive. 4. If you want to abide by realism, then you have to include Western/NATO weapons. Pure and simple. Eastern Block countries, post-Soviet countries and the like... make use of Western/NATO weaponry if not outright manufacturing it already.
