  1. Again, the "rare" spawns at deer stands would be mid-range. Not high-end. So 5% of the time, some mid-tier loot spawns there. Sounds pretty unremarkable to me. I think we're going to have to agree to disagree on this one.

    DayZ SA Controller Issue

I mean, I haven't set up anything. I just plugged in my controller to my PC, downloaded the drivers, and played the game. I don't use Xpadder, so I can't comment on how hard it'd be to use that. I just use the default (and limited) controls that DayZ/ARMA uses. ARMA II doesn't allow you to remap controller functions very easily, if at all, so you're pretty much just stuck with the default stuff.

    DayZ SA Controller Issue

It worked better in the mod. But it worked fine enough for me in the standalone. Just standard (without a mapping program like Xpadder) I'd say about 60% of the buttons on the controller are used, with 40% being unused. So anyone who says "controllers can't handle the complexity of DayZ's control scheme" is talking out of their ass. There's a lot of unused buttons on the controller by default. Couple that with modal functioning (i.e. press button and all the other buttons do a different function than before), holding button functions, and double-tapping functions, it can easily match the complexity of a keyboard in terms of overall actions that can be accomplished. More than enough to handle a game like DayZ. If I could map the lean function to one of the shoulders, and the freelook function to the other, I'd be 100%. The only issue in the standalone, is navigating the inventory, which was clearly designed for a mouse. Which is why I use a keyboard, mouse, AND controller... at the same time. Get on my level PC peasants.
  4. Again, it was the case in the mod (i.e. decent stuff spawning there now and again). And not every, or even most, deer stand(s) was/were camped... or even visited. You're seriously positing, that if the player count goes up (to around 100, by the developer's own statements) that every single deer stand will be constantly camped? That's unfeasible and more than unlikely. Even if half of them are, which is a ludicrous proposition, there's 50 left over. Even if 25% of them are, which is equally ludicrous, there's 75 uncamped deer stands. If there's a 95% chance that deer stands spawn unremarkable stuff that can be found elsewhere, and a 5% chance that it spawns mid-range loot, 95% of those deer stands aren't spawning anything special at any given time. So why would it make sense to camp these, when barracks spawn decent stuff nearly 100% of the time and people flock to those much more frequently? I mean, it just doesn't add up. I think you're seriously underestimating the significance of rarity.
  5. I mean, the SMLE may have been a "battle rifle" at the time (in the sense that it's a rifle used in battle/combat). But the definition shifted to something more concrete after the advent of the assault rifle (and intermediate cartridge respectively). It's still vague, but it's vague in terms of what distinguishes a battle rifle from a designated marksman rifle. Often times, it's just the optics... or the way it's employed. I think now, the SMLE is categorically not a battle rifle. Doesn't make it any better or worse, but battle rifle has now moved away from the "rifle used in battle/combat" definition to a "rifle with certain tangible characteristics" definition.
  6. I don't agree. I can count on one hand how many times I've been killed at a deer stand, out of two years of playing. They're all over the place, there are more deer stands than there are players-per-server right now. There are over 100 deer stands. Compared to something like a barracks building or a police station, they are very... very... low-risk locations. If they're made into a low-rate, mid-range spawn, I can't see that drawing hordes of "camping" players in... when there are much more centralized and high-traffic areas around.
  7. Answer - It's a game. And it was fun having stuff spawn at deer stands, because it allowed for a different type of gameplay. Rather than the singular experience of going to a high-value area, one could gear up to a middling capacity just off of deer stands. If we look at it from a purely "plausible circumstances" perspective, half of the loot is in places where it shouldn't necessarily be.
  8. Modularity is only one aspect which would cause me to deem something as "high-end." Likewise, the modularity of the M4A1 is dependent on a variety of things. Chief amongst which, is the looting of a separate item to make it fully modular (i.e. the KAC RIS handguard). We've discussed this before, but the top-tier stuff that I'd like to see (with regard to modularity) wouldn't require one to loot an extra item (i.e. a rail system) to be fully modular. It would just be innately capable of attaching everything (a la SCAR platform). There are other factors, like range, ROF, magazine capacity, stopping power (but for DayZ's concerns, "damage"), and all the traditional pros and cons of a weapon which should also factor in to deeming something as "high-end." Also, the weapons which are "high-end" must also perform better than their "mid-low end" counterparts. And I really don't think the M4A1 is just patently better than an SKS, even if the M4A1 were better in terms of accuracy. It just doesn't offer that much of an advantage now. I ditched an M4A1 w/ M68, suppressor, four mags, CTR stock, and MOE handguard the other day, for an SKS, whilst I was trying to find an AKM. And I felt more capable whilst using the SKS. EDIT - Plus I don't really consider assault rifles, as a concept, to be "high-end." Now GPMGs, DMRs/BRs, and dedicated sniper rifles... sure. But not assault rifles. Because, by definition, they're mid-range.
  9. Oh I agree with you. I'm just not sure I would personally pick the SIG 550 platform for that role.
  10. Yeah, I mean, if they were to put a SIG 550 in, I'd want it to not be all that modular/flexible in order to make it a "mid-range" assault rifle. Like this... Proprietary magazine is a big one. If it can take STANAG mags like the M4, then I don't see much point in adding it as a mid-range weapon if it's just going to be more flexible. But then again, I hardly think the M4A1 should be "high-end" by any means. Mounting an optic (maybe a suppressor as well) would probably be the limit of what I'd want for this weapon.
  11. Definitely a cool weapon. Might be a good, sort of, "police" assault rifle with a middling modularity capability. However, it's 5.56x45, so that might be problematic. But, I'd be okay if it were to supply mid-high end weapons. Just not low, middle, AND high-end weapons.
  12. While we're on the topic of "stands," I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to a deployable tree stand being a looted item at deer stands. Might be a little bit much having people in the treeeees maaan! But, high chance of falling to your death... But what I'd really want, is this... Game camera, could be put up on a tree near your camp... could utilize a similar technology as the mirror/screen bit from ARMA III in recording an image of whoever raided your cozy camp site.
  13. They've said they're working on having loading individual rounds be a bit more intuitive. And I corrected my original post, I dunno why I put in "semi-automatic" vice "select-fire."
  14. It's a bolt-action, and it fires an intermediate cartridge, so no. Although, the term "battle rifle" is fairly vague in certain contexts. But nowadays, it's pretty much meant to cover select-fire, mag-fed, full-powered rifle round weapons like the G3/FAL/HK417.
  15. It's worth mentioning that this post is two months old, two months ago... I was getting a METRIC TON OF SHIT... DAILY... from people (including yourself) just for the mere suggestion of something made outside of Soviet Russia. Things have changed since then. It's also worth mentioning, that the context of the sentence is actually giving the so-called "realism humpers" what they want. Moreover, I have never... and I've stated this (because I'm one of them)... had an issue with folks who are reasonable about their desire for realism. Where I call people "realism humpers" is when they're unreasonable, overzealous, and vitriolic in the first place. However, what you said is fair, and I will work to stop using the term. But just bear in mind, I see tons of shit... dismissals... illogical arguments... contradictions... indictments of the developers... and general bile... from people who want "realism" and feel it's okay to demean the neutral suggestions of others. On a daily basis. So, you'll forgive me if I get a bit terse from time to time.
  16. It's habbening! And it's detachable! /hnnnnnngh Hopefully it'll be able to be applied to the other weapons which can also mount it (see M4A1 w/ looted KAC RIS and AKM w/ looted MW rail).

    DayZ SA Controller Issue

Yeah, with the latest patch, controller support was disabled/removed. Unsure if this is intentional, but it's annoying for the few of us who like to play with a controller (for preferential reasons). I think Xpadder may still work fine, so you might want to try that if it's really bothering you.
  18. Yeah, which will make the resupply, and therefore the use, of the supposedly rare M4A1 inconsequential if 5.56x45 has to be spawning elsewhere to supply the "common" CZ 527. I'd rather they have the CZ 527 in 7.62x39, as it is not supplying the now-rarest weapon in the game in addition. They, in my opinion, should be leaving 5.56x45 to supply the NATO weapons and that's pretty much it (with a few exceptions). Granted, this is a side-issue, but I'm not sure the M4A1 warrants being a crash-only spawn based upon how good it is, or what it allows the player to do. I'm not just talking about the fact that the M4A1 isn't any good now. I'm talking about it, as a concept, doesn't have as huge an advantage (if any in-game) over things like the SKS, AKM, and Mosin. By my own account, it's just patently worse than the first two. So, the only reason I can see it being a crash-only spawn in the future is for posterity - in keeping the NATO spawns rare (which I support). But from a perspective of "making good things rare," it doesn't make much sense to me. Sure it's modular, but that's only one part of what I believe should qualify something as a "rare item." I guess this is all a bit academic at this point, pending the later balance of everything.
  19. Guns which are only found at helicopter crashes, vice all over the place: M4A1
  20. Okay then, here's an anatomical diagram of a deer. Which is in DayZ. Even though it's just rendered as a DEER inasmuch as DayZ is concerned, not a DEER w/ heart, brain, muscles, intestines, vertebrae, etc. In other words, you're just putting up inapplicable information to DayZ based on a loose connection to the CZ 527 being in-game. If you were to make the argument that these aspects of a CZ 527 should be represented in DayZ then it would be a different story. But you're not.
  21. But it's not, though. This is documentation of the intricacies of a real-world object in relation to its real-world use. In DayZ, they're just pixels. The specifics of the weapon in the real world do not apply to DayZ, or any video game for that matter. Because they're rendering a stand-in for an object, not the object itself. We can't therefore take a real-world depiction of something, and suppose that "it will work like this in-game." The information then becomes useless to us as members of DayZ forum. DayZ isn't concerned with what the safety of the weapon looks like when it's engaged/disengaged. DayZ isn't concerned with the fact that the magazine is single-stack. DayZ isn't concerned with the fact that the magazine drops "directly down" instead of being rocked into position. DayZ isn't concerned with removing the bolt and inspecting the chamber. DayZ isn't concerned with reassembling the rifle. Everything that this article is doing, is just a review and/or manual of arms of the weapon. That's all. It'd be like if I posted Martha Stewart's Recipe for Braised Rabbit Stew with Carrots, because rabbits are represented in-game. Or an anatomical diagram of a deer, simply because they're in-game.
  22. I mean, yeah, it's a cool gun that is inbound. But this is what I was talking about. Just posting what's essentially a CZ brochure for a weapon in the real-world doesn't do anything for the discussion of DayZ. This belongs on TFB. Not DayZ forum.

.380 ACP Coming To DayZ! [Torchia Reddit]

I'm torn on the M4A1 being a crash-only spawn. I mean, yes, I want NATO gear to be rarer overall. But the M4 just ain't that good... even kitted out... as a concept... it just isn't that good compared to the SKS, Mosin, and AKM as far as DayZ is concerned. It's not good enough (and really can't be good enough, by virtue of what it is), in my opinion, to warrant it being the rarest weapon in the game (currently). I think it's a good thing that they did it, as it sets the precedent again for crash-specific weapon spawns. That's the issue I have with the current status of the weapon lineup, there's no real middle ground. Nor is there a distinct "high-end" yet.

.380 ACP Coming To DayZ! [Torchia Reddit]

In fairness, I haven't really heard this line of argument on the forums in a long, long, long time. And when I say long, long, long time... I mean a few months. I'd like to think I had something to do with that in constantly fending off the hounds. But, that's perhaps presumptuous.

.380 ACP Coming To DayZ! [Torchia Reddit]

Yes, they already have the AK-74M done. So why would it make sense to not include it just based upon the fact that they're not putting in 5.45x39? It's a waste to toss it, simply because it can't or won't be chambered in 5.45x39. It's NOT a waste to just chamber it in 5.56x45 and put it in-game. I'm not saying you can't have an opinion about something, I've never said this to anybody in my entire life and I don't intend on starting.
