    BAF L85/SA80 variants

I'll see your Jurassic Park meme with a relevant one of my own... Replace "life" with "fiction" and well, there it is. Yes please, L85 would be lovely. No reason to cross it off the list.
  2. I'd like the food schedule (i.e. how often/frequent you have to eat/drink) to be extended. But I'd like food to be much rarer overall, so that when you're really hungry and you didn't plan ahead, you're just fucked.

    New weapon confirmed? VSS Vintorez

Yup! I'm not sure their Negev clones, or Galatz clones, are chambered in 5.45x39 and 7.62x54R respectively though. Pretty sure they're 5.56x45 and 7.62x51 respectively. That and they also make RPC Fort Tavors in 5.56x45. I'm unsure to which one they're actually issuing, I'd guess the 5.45x39 variant.

    I miss my dot

I'd rather no HUD at all. Just give items a bigger "pickup" window when you're looking at them. The dot was better than what we've got now, though. But I distinctly remember the developers (probably during the Rocket era) saying the dot would be tossed out entirely.

Yes. An anti-duping measure is a consequence of the centralized loot economy. But you've got to be kidding me thinking that it's the only reason they did it. They wouldn't have been holding back the SVD, and explaining it in terms of limiting the number of high-value items spawning, if it were. They didn't even set out with the intention of having every item be under the control of the centralized loot economy. That was a later addition, which I distinctly remember Dean saying in one of the Rezzed presentations, something to the effect of "they'd try it."

    This is a survival game

They haven't made clear what the "centralized loot economy" is actually doing, or is intended to do, behind the scenes. Originally, as was stated by the developers, the intention was to control the overall amount of certain items (like high-value items such as the SVD) on the map at any given time. That has obviously expanded to include every item spawning in the game, so it's unclear as to their intentions with this. All they've said is that only weapons have been configured, and I've been finding copious amounts of AKs around UAZ wrecks and BMP wrecks. Too many to count. So it's obvious that it's not working as intended, and they've said as much. However, military loot is spawning disproportionately (it seems) in residential locations. Whilst military locations are spawning residential loot at a rate that's overshadowing the military loot they'd normally spawn. Some of this is undoubtedly to do with spawn timing/dynamic allocation, as people are obviously still looting the barracks buildings heavily and not the rest of the map. However, I'm tripping over military gear in houses and hardly encountering any at military locations. It's clear that it's certainly not random at this point, although the improperly configured values give the illusion that "anything can spawn anywhere." Which causes some to think that it's totally random.

    Dayz radio stations

Yeah, I'd toss that one out of your expectation window. They haven't mentioned it, or breathed that they even remember it. They should, in my opinion, just remove walkie talkies from the game and move on. Don't even care about it anymore, as third-party communications undercut the utility/significance/everything of in-game communication entirely. Would just be useless, unless the issue (yeah, the issue, it's a huge detriment and anyone saying otherwise is either blind or apathetic) of third-party communications is addressed. But it won't be, and arguably shouldn't. Would rather they devote time to something else, shame though.

    This is a survival game

There are a myriad of circumstances to explain why military gear would be at a military base, why hospitals have medical supplies, and food is in grocery stores, post-apocalypse. The first and easiest, which is mainly applicable to the first two, is the idea of surplus. Maybe the military wasn't concerned with expending every last M4 they had in their armory? Maybe they had 100 soldiers and 150 assault rifles? Maybe they were overrun before they could be deployed. Maybe they left tons behind after they were evacuated because they were more concerned with saving their own behinds than destroying/hauling gear that couldn't be used by zombies anyhow? The explanations are endless. It's just as much of a supposition to say that "everything would be looted/distributed already" as saying "some stuff would be left behind." They're both just assumptions, each one as plausible as the other. And Caboose, you're throwing the baby out with the bathwater. I never said the existing system was perfect, or even preferable. But having loot totally distributed randomly across the map gives me an incentive to go nowhere in particular. Having certain types of loot favor certain buildings, but not spawning exclusively in those buildings is a middle-ground between the two. Should I find an M4 in a barracks/armory every time (see your "insta-gear up spot" anecdote)? No. Should I have a higher chance of finding an M4 in a barracks/armory building than in a wood shed? Probably so.

I'm not sure why both players, and developers, are now so against "hot-spots." That was never the expressed intention of the centralized loot economy. I mean, I sure as hell hope there'll be high-risk, high-reward areas in DayZ. Part of that is what makes DayZ fun for me, not the PvP, but the specter of PvP. The risk that is involved in going for something rewarding. To be fair, I'm also for high-time, low-reward, low-risk alternatives like deer stands for loot. But my god, I don't want to throw out the very notion of certain areas being risky. That, and I think people are blowing the whole "more zombies" thing out of proportion. They're not done. Zombies, while more of a threat, still aren't really a threat. There will be more, this is just a taste.

    New weapon confirmed? VSS Vintorez

While I do support some "party piece" weapons, I do believe that the majority of weapons should have some unique/useful qualities so that people will actually use them. Take the FAL in the mod. It was a wonderful weapon. But nobody used it because it, and the all-important magazines, only spawned at helicopter crashes. Whereas everyone used the M14 AIM/DMR because it could be found everywhere, came with optics, and the magazines could be found in industrial buildings. Granted, things have changed a bit since then. And you rightly pointed out the PM73. But I'm sure that similar imbalances could arise if the whole picture isn't taken into account. There's a fine line between something being a "party piece" and outright useless. Spawning at helicopter crashes, or being prohibitively rare, isn't in and of itself problematic. But these things have to be rare for a reason. It can't just be rare for rarity's sake with the vast majority of weapons. As niche as the VSS's intended role is, I'm not sure it warrants being super rare. I mean, rarer than an AK-74 or AKM for sure. But not so rare that it, and 9x39, become some kind of seldom-encountered luxury. Especially if they're not going to make it super modular, it just doesn't seem all that great to me. Its main selling point is that it, ostensibly, comes with an integral suppressor. Other than that, I'm sure it will drop folks just as well as an SKS or Mosin.

Anyone saying the G36 is implausible, or even super unlikely, in a post-Soviet/Eastern European state is smoking... Effing... 100%... Columbian... Cocaine... Latvia, Kosovo, Poland, Georgia, and Lithuania respectively.

Most optics like the PSO, including the ACOG, all have their own "rangefinders" (i.e. features on the reticle that approximate the human silhouette at various ranges). It's not really a feature that's unique to the PSO somehow, it's just more obvious.
  13. Katana67

    0.55 loot spawns!

The wrecked UAZ trucks are goldmines. They spawn attachments, ammo, and AKs galore. It seems consistent to a few as well, not all spawn this much loot. There's one on the way out of Pustoshka heading toward Dichina/Veresnik that spawns good loot, and the two that I can find in Vybor seem to as well.
  14. I think we need a bit more clarity on what the centralized loot economy is actually doing. Is it allocating things completely randomly across the map? Is it favoring certain buildings with certain types of loot to any degree? Are individual item spawns still based upon percentages or an item cap? How is the loot actually being distributed? What indicators are being used to distributed loot to a specific location? Are all items spawning in endless quantities or are some items limited now (this was the intention I believe)? Do item spawns still reset every restart? What is the timeframe for a respawn of an item? Because if the distribution of "high-end" loot is completely random, and it doesn't matter whether it's a barracks building or a wood shed, that's a bad thing in my opinion. You can have that type of loot have a small chance of spawning elsewhere, but there should be some high-value locations based upon loot types (rather than just the number/density of spawns). Otherwise, looting Myshkino (the village, not the ludicrous military camp they felt the need to place there) would be roughly as profitable as looting Dichina/Veresnik or NWAF. I went through an ostensibly unlooted barracks building and found absolutely nothing worthwhile. Helicopter crashes appear to be working as intended though, which is nice.

Okay, a few things here. 1. The Russian military isn't/wasn't the only military present in Chernarus 2. Assuming DayZ takes place in the same universe, the Russians that were deployed to Chernarus were well-equipped (see ARMA II) 3. Where are you drawing these "facts" from about the Russian military optics distribution? Because if Ukrainian separatists and/or rank-and-file military folks can get optics, western kit, weapon modifications, and suppressors regularly, I would think it's entirely plausible for them to be a regular occurrence in a place like Chernarus. 4. The Russian military isn't some backward organization fighting with bows and arrows. They deploy with, and employ, a wide range of optics and attachments. They aren't in the infancy of modernization, they're a modern military. 5. Even if it's just "a few specialized units," how does that help your argument? Their special operations community alone is massive. Again, this all operates on a few assumptions (i.e. that DayZ is in the same universe as ARMA II and/or that real-world Russian military equipment somehow matters in fictional DayZ). None of which are agreed upon.

    U.S. & Russian Fed. Weapons

Latvia, not really. They're pretty NATO-oriented these days, as a member state. Plus, they've always been pretty distinctly Baltic, vice "Eastern European." Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Belarus are really the last holdouts of using only Warsaw Pact stuff. And even then, their SF get NATO small arms. But most of the former Soviet holdings and Balkan states; Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, Georgia, Germany (remember that whole East/West thing?), Poland, Serbia, all make heavy use of NATO or indigenously produced weaponry. I've spent a lot of time pointing this out, let me dig through my post history and find some of my picture threads. Will update. Update!! Romania Russia Albania Serb-stravaganza! See, even then. I'd rather things like the SVD and VSS spawn without an optic most of the time. Realism be damned (even though both of these weapons can be used with irons just as "realistically" as with an optic). It's more fun to me to have to find the optic after I get the weapon. It's by no means a deal breaker, I could certainly support having optics spawn regularly on certain weapons (like the AUG now). But it needs to be taken into account with balance. Like the AUG, yeah I get they're interested in having a rail for it so it can mount an ACOG, but its selling point is that it comes with an optic. Other than that, it's a fairly humdrum assault rifle. The M4's selling point is that it can be kitted out to a greater degree. That's why I am okay with it, but would of course rather it be spawning as an A3 or somesuch with irons. Which is why I'd rather they'd've gone with something like an SR-3. You get the SR-3, and if you want to make a VSS, you pretty much can! Just need to find a suppressor and a PSO and you can make a VSS. With the VSS, that's pretty much all you get. Whereas the SR-3 can be configured in a variety of different ways. For reference - VSS, SR-3, and AS VAL

    New weapon confirmed? VSS Vintorez

I agree, but that should be the rare exception. I don't want it becoming the norm to find weapons with a myriad of attachments already on them, spawned in the wild. The majority of weapons should be blank canvases for the player to kit out how he/she sees fit. But that's not what Gibonez is proposing. He's wanting optics only spawning on weapons.

New Zombies (how to deal with)?

They're great, definitely more of a threat. But, they're still just an annoyance with a lot of the underlying issues still unaddressed. Said it before, but they need to actually iron out the kinks of things like melee, character movement, rampant desync, and a lack of stealth options, before they start piling on more zombies. The same thing happened with the mod. Zombies were sparse (I recall they only spawned in buildings for a long while in the early days of the mod). Then the second they started adding more, it was a shitshow because there was very little mechanical infrastructure for avoiding them / engaging them. Then they started beefing up the stealth mechanic and toned down the animations, and everything balanced out.

    New weapon confirmed? VSS Vintorez

I don't believe the loot tables need cleaning, I don't believe optics are somehow causing stress on the loot tables, and I certainly don't believe that's why they're doing it. I recall you proposing this a while back, and I still vehemently disagree for exactly the same reasons. I don't want weapons being a "one-stop-shop." I want to piece together a weapon to make it mine. I want to work for it. I don't want my weapons spawning kitted out with a magazine next to them, because that's one less journey that I have to make. I don't want to stumble upon a fully kitted AR when I find one (a la the mod). If you want optics to be so rare, then why not just... make them rarer? They're already pretty dern rare. Much rarer than when you had your original post, and I was tripping over 10 PSOs every time I went to NWAF. They've already been made rarer. I see zero incentive to make them rare by proxy via shoving them on weapons. A PSO or a PU isn't, and certainly shouldn't be, god's gift to man. They aren't that great, and I don't really see any reason to make them hyper rare. I don't want The Legendary M4 of Zanthor. This isn't Destiny. I want an M4 that someone, or I, poured their heart and soul into kitting out just right. Again, I'm not sure what's so problematic about having optics spawning separately from their weapons. And no, please don't cite the "realism" argument. Because it doesn't hold up. I've seen armories, gun shops, and personal collections of dismounted optics. They're not always, or even regularly in some cases, already mounted on weapons. They come in nice little pouches and boxes just like Twinkies or cigarettes.
  23. Katana67

    New weapon confirmed? VSS Vintorez

Wasn't it in the same post that they said they were working on more weapon attachments? And having weapons spawning with attachments doesn't mean they're cutting back on adding "super modular" weapons. Whatever you mean by that. Those are two different things. If they want attachments spawning on weapons (as problematic an issue as that is), then why wouldn't they want more "modular" weapons to take advantage of that? If anything, they're bending over backwards to add attachment options for more weapons (see improvised suppressor).
  24. Katana67

    New weapon confirmed? VSS Vintorez

Not worried about the degradation, was talking about the modularity and subsequent lackthereof with the VSS over something like the SR-3 (which would've been a better inclusion because you can kit it out to essentially be a VSS anyhow, and a variety of other configurations). However, that is a potential problem, because there's currently no degredation for integrally suppressed weapons (i.e. the Amphibia S and the VSS). So, that would be a problem. Because as of now, those weapons with integral suppressors don't degrade at all.
  25. Katana67

Impact of 3rd Party Comms (TS3, VENT, etc.)

Yeah, I mean third-party comms are one of the most detrimental aspects facing DayZ right now. Unfortunately, not a lot that can/will be done about it. People, the developers included, seem too accustomed to it to care about, or even see, the detriments. I've highlighted these specifically in the past, seems to be a dead issue at this point. Which is a shame.
