    Reconsider the AK-74 and 5.45x39

Right, but the fact that they're both assault rifles does. I wasn't saying that they're the same ether way, I'm saying that as far as DayZ is concerned, they're the same aesthetically and archetypically (as AK-pattern assault rifles). It would be as if I suggested adding an AR-15 in 5.56 and .300 BLK. Ultimately, what separates them in DayZ, would just be numbers simulating ballistic performance. They're both AR-15s. Point being, we've already got two assault rifle rounds in-game. We don't need, although I support additional rounds, any more to do anything other than add variety. Moreover, they can assign other values to make individual weapons perform differently. I'm also saying, that in order to add the generic archetypes (i.e. a SBR AK, a mag-fed HBAR AK, etc.) they don't need 5.45 to do so. They can do so just as well with 7.62x39. If they want a SBR AK, they add the AKMSU. If they want a mag-fed HBAR AK, they add the RPK. If they want a bullpup AK, they add the OTs-14-1A or AKU-94. And now you're making the argument for performance and variety, which is acceptable inasmuch as it's not considered to be a necessity.

    Reconsider the AK-74 and 5.45x39

Seeing as an AR-10 fires a full rifle round (7.62x51) and the AR-15 fires an intermediate assault rifle cartridge (5.56x45), no, it's not the same. If we were talking about the SVD and AK, then it would be applicable. But we're not. Moreover, I'm not fixed on the AK-74. I'm fixed on AK-pattern weapons, two of which we've already got... no matter what caliber they're firing. Adding an RPK, AKMSU, and perhaps a modernized version like the AEK-973 (although I'd rather a bullpup AK variant) varies the aesthetic and pragmatic capabilities of the AK-pattern weapons lineup, without the need for another caliber. If we're talking from a standpoint of adding weapons. Which up until now, is all we've been discussing. We're talking about two assault rifles, which are visually identical/similar in many cases, and have similar capabilities as far as DayZ is concerned. They may be different in real life, but they look pretty much the same in DayZ. I doubt the developers are going to dump art resources into making something that could be described as "just another AK." Especially if it requires the addition of a new caliber to justify its existence in the first place. And especially not when they've got a perfectly good caliber already that allows them to add a similar lineup. Which is why I don't expect them to put in every AR-15 variant under the sun either. One's definition of "over simplifying the game" is subjective. I don't consider not including 5.45x39 an over simplification. And, again, I support the addition of 5.45x39. I just don't view it as somehow a necessity, or an affront to what DayZ is simply because the developers choose not to add it. They don't lose any flexibility in the weapons they can add, when almost every 5.45x39 weapon has a 7.62x39 analog. You could make the argument that it would give them a bit more variety in terms of actual ballistic performance of weapons should they add it, or it could allow them to tier the loot better, but the argument that it allows them to add a more diverse lineup of weapons which are needed/distinct doesn't really stand on its own.

All of which could be done with 7.62x39.

So did Heli Crashes get fixed this update?

Not sure. I wouldn't mind it if they removed them for a little bit to tweak them. I don't think 5.56x45 is going to be feasible to spawn only at helicopter crashes now, with the AK-101 (although I have heard of it spawning at police stations and of course in 101 magazines).

    Reconsider the AK-74 and 5.45x39

Hence why I didn't imply that. I was implying that they're not wholly representative of the community, which is much larger than 70 people. Do you want to talk about 5.45 now?

    Reconsider the AK-74 and 5.45x39

Again, 70, not even coming close to approaching anything near in the same ballpark as representative of a "community". Now, can we drop the "community" bit and actually discuss the topic at hand please?

Cool? I'll still be here... telling you that it's offensive and misapplied.

    Reconsider the AK-74 and 5.45x39

Again, I can't comment on people who I am not... and neither can you without some serious polling of multiple communities (Twitter, Reddit, Forums, etc.) and nearly a million (I dunno how many unique copies they've sold). You use these examples (blood types, antibiotics/disease, and vehicle repair) as if they're somehow indicative of a trend which should be followed explicitly. The developers are pragmatic, and they apply their development in the service of their goals. They aren't losing out on any weapon types. They added the AK-101 because it was able to be chambered in 5.56x45. If that concession wasn't made there'd be two options - you'd have a named AK-74M firing 5.56x45, or, you'd have no AK-101/AK-74M at all. And, again, I want 5.45x39 for pragmatic reasons. I just don't view it as a necessity. Nor am I going to make the non-argument that "it's realistic, so therefore should be done," when there's much more to consider when adding an item into DayZ.

    First Balancing pass on firearms

That and there's jack shit to suggest that the developers would/will actually allow the mounting of the M203 on the Mosin. And there's jack shit to suggest that the developers are making a RIS system in the first place for the Mosin. In fact, what is apparent is that they're removing attachments from the Mosin (see bipod). Making that image that Gibonez, in typical fashion, posted... completely useless, inapplicable, and vitriolic.

That's on you. I'll continue to illustrate why your use of the word is misapplied, vitriolic, and insulting. That's on me.

    Vehicle Ideas of DayZ Standalone

The only armed "military" vehicles that I'd like to see implemented should be unarmed to start. In other words, you have to go out and find that M2HB for your HMMWV. You've got to go out and find that .50 BMG ammo, box, and links. Same goes for door-mounted machine guns for helicopters, which I believe should be the limit of weaponry for aircraft.

Well it's translated as "striving," and has many meanings in various contexts. Using it as a canned term is disingenuous. I have written extensively on the subject. If you mean struggle, then say that. Don't lump nearly 1500 years of religion, bloodshed, and militancy into a cheap shot at game developers who aren't doing what you want.

    Reconsider the AK-74 and 5.45x39

Again, if your main argument is that "there are many variants of the AK-74 chambered in 5.45x39 that would be welcome in game and fit in the setting," they can already add those in 7.62x39. It's not like they're losing out on weapons because they're refusing to add 5.45x39. AEK-973 RPK AKMSU

    AK-101 Attachments

No, I was just listing that as another "unrealistic" discrepancy that's already in-game with no ill-effects. I don't care that the PSO-1 can be used on the AKM and SVD at the same time without using different (or universal) mounts. Please don't invoke "jihad" in jest or in vitriol against the developers. Just a personal thing for me. Also, I won't pretend to speak for a "community" which all believes the same thing or a "majority". So, I can't really speak to what your concept of a "community" should do. I can, however, speak to what I would do. At the risk of rehashing the old argument - nearly every 5.45x39 AK variant (including the ones you listed) has a 7.62x39 counterpart. They don't need to add 5.45x39 if they want those weapons, so it's not like they're missing out on weapons by proxy. The only reason I want 5.45x39 is because it's another data point with which they can tweak the weapon-ammunition-utilization concept and make weapons rare/common. It certainly isn't needed. They already have 5.56x45 and 7.62x39. All adding 5.45x39 would do, is add one more layer of complexity in terms of loot balance. That's the only reason why I support its addition, but certainly don't view it as a necessity. But this is all very much off-topic. I am not concerned with pure realism, hence why I am approximating the AK-74M and AK-101 (as has been done in-game) in suggesting attachments/magazines which are themselves to be amalgamated.

    Pistol Magazine Rarity

Yes. Sporter and pistol magazines need to be spawning a bit more frequently. Likewise, they need to be spawning in the same building types as their respective weapons. Wouldn't even be opposed to these magazines spawning empty just across the board, because the ammunition is (and should be) pretty easy to come across.
  18. Right, but that means one of a few things... 1. If I find a tent without loot inside (just because someone has logged off nearby), after having trekked to/located/approached it in the first place, it's no longer a risk/reward dynamic. 2. If I find a tent without loot inside, there's no way of gauging activity - it could be that someone's logged out nearby or that nobody's put anything in the tent. I don't know whether to stick around and wait or pass it, after having trekked (ostensibly) a while to even find it in the first place. 3. Even if I do somehow know that it is an active campsite, and the person has just logged off, it opens the door to traditional spawn-camping. 4. People can disappear from DayZ for days/weeks at a time, so their having logged out near a tent buys them a potentially infinite amount of time with 100% safe loot. 5. A situation could arise wherein it's used almost like a "combat log." If I roll up on someone in a tent, and see them sitting in there with a pile of loot and they happen to see me and insta-log... then I just wasted a trip. Again, I think tents (and specifically operating around tents) should incur some sort of advantage. Just not that massive of an advantage. Having 100% un-lootable gear, that's supposed to be persistent, isn't an acceptable advantage. People can already store copious amounts of gear in their inventories. Part of the tradeoff with being able to store more and more items in-game (that is to say, persistently on the server) is that you're more liable to lose said items. In other words, you can store more... but it's riskier.
  19. Eh, even then, you're short-changing the act of actually finding and looting a tent. Which is a great aspect of DayZ. I'm somewhat biased toward this approach, as it's primarily how I gear/geared in the mod - via other people's tents. The efficacy of one's tent placement should be based on how well one camouflages it and/or places it in relation to common player pathways. You shouldn't just get 100% (and therefore, unlootable) disappearing tents/gear just because you log out nearby. But either way, I dislike the idea of people's loot especially just popping in and out of existence. Hence why I dislike solutions to people re-gearing after spawns that involve insta-disappearing tents and the like. I'd like to see the bonuses for operating out of a camp be more oriented toward the forthcoming survival aspects of the mod - like bonuses to heating oneself and shielding oneself from the elements, perhaps an artificial healing bonus whilst logged out, or protection of valuable loot items from the elements. This is a big thing that I'd like to see out of tents, whenever they get around to actually tweaking the persistent items. Items just stored in the middle of a field should degrade at a much, much, much faster rate than ones tucked away in a tent.
  20. I think there should be a reward for logging out in a tent (perhaps some form of mitigated character decay, if it's implemented, or a small healing bonus) but it shouldn't disappear from the world just because you logged out in your tent. Causes all kinds of problems with folks zorping in and out of existence, possibly on top of other people's tents who had assumed the area was secure because there were no other tents placed nearby. Persistent items should be persistent. The only issue, for me, is that they appear to be trying to have it both ways. They are having things be persistent to the server (i.e. tents) but also are having things be accessible cross-server with public hives. I feel that they need to truncate the character persistence cross-server, or eliminate it altogether. Hives should be there to unify the experience and dictate the parameters of the experience. Servers should be there to designate in which "world/instance" the player's avatar exists. Until there is a unified server architecture (like most traditional MMOs, where everyone is playing in the same "world" so to speak) then persistence in DayZ will always be flawed in my opinion.

For gameplay reasons, and not to mention the magnified optics are not zeroed for 7.62x39 in real life... so they're not as interchangeable as one might think. Plus, there's a difference between the SVD mount and an AK mount (although there are universal mounts). So it's arguable as to whether the current optics "should" be able to mount on both the AKM and SVD in the first place, as the inspection description indicates. They are comparable, because the AK-101 is an appropriation of the AK-74M. It's a compromise, and (just as Chris Torchia had stated) most folks don't appear to be picking up on the very, very, subtle differences between it and the AK-101 (pretty much a slightly lessened curve in 5.56 AK mags, and that's it). The AK-101 in-game is therefore an amalgam of the physical aesthetic of an AK-74M and the internal chambering of an AK-101. So I don't mind having magazines which are 5.45x39 being able to be used in our amalgamated AK-101 in DayZ. I'm also not trying to simulate the real world in suggesting these, so, yeah. There's that.
  22. Nope. "You are dead" is all I need.
  23. Needs to be better formatted, I loved the DayZDev Tumblr. This is hard to read and disjointed.
  24. I'd rather they remove them until they get a good animation, not because they're buggy. The animation for the hoppers is absolutely atrocious, I prefer the mod's mindless flailing to the new monkey jog. And that's saying something. I have nothing against hopper zombies, but I really cannot speak highly of their past or present animations.

When you say "I love to see you guys trying to complain and working out ways to to be pissed off before you know what's happened" in response one of my posts, it is in reference to what I said. If you agreed with me, and wanted to express your disdain with others (besides me) you didn't say so in your post. Hence why I was confused, because you appeared to be lumping me in with folks with whom you disagree.
