[FIXED?] Too many zombies DISCUSSION
Katana67 replied to yoski's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I liked it with what we had before. Just wasn't enough risk infiltrating the NWAF, encountered maybe five zombies within a 20m radius of me the whole time... rather than the usual 20 plus. -
Catching an Infection? What do you think?
Katana67 replied to ihax's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
More stuff to do! Yay! The more survival stuff the better, keeps pesky survivors and bandits alike on their toes and forces them to do something other than deathmatch. Both the temperature and infection thing seem cool, the temperature/weather effects thing moreso. -
There needs to be some more activities to do, those will act as incentives for people to vary gameplay. I think things like hunting (needs to be fleshed out), fishing, ability to make a garden next to a tent, make slightly more advanced settlements, and shelter need to be implemented. Shelter would be a big thing, would encourage people to fortify buildings in order to hunker down and spend the night or whatever.

Yes, and those mods are *gasp* fully fleshed out and have progressed out of Alpha! This mod is in it's infancy, and is updated weekly (something which we should all be very, very, thankful for). New features and bug fixes are added all of the time, if you look at the slate of stuff Rocket has said he's interested in implementing... there'll be much more to do once this mod progresses out of Alpha. Regardless, if you can't find an objective in a game that puts the objective squarely in the player's hands... then I don't know what to tell you. I scout for game to hunt, people scrounge for medical supplies, kill, sneak, raid, build, etc. There are a ton of things to do in this game as it stands, so I don't know where you get that from. Sure, it's slow-er paced, but that's what creates tension and makes your in-game life something to be protected and valued. If all you're doing is "walking around and finding shit", two things. One, you're missing out on a ton of the actual "Stuff" that's available to you in the mod. Two, how is it really that different from any other open-world game or even a FPS? CoD, you walk around and find players to shoot at. BF3, you fly around and find players to shoot at. Red Dead Redemption, you gallop around and find other NPC's to shoot at. EvE Online, you space-fly around and find other players to screw over. I think you're having too general of an experience, and thus missing out on the depth of the mod.

Wow, I don't enjoy endorsing interwebz speak... but cry more... seriously. Unsure if troll. If the game isn't for you, then move on, don't post about it like you matter. You're not going to change the way it behaves by whining, when plenty of others praise the mod as the best thing since sliced bread. If it ain't your cup of tea, don't order it again... Don't bitch at the other patrons because you made a choice that didn't suit you. Expecting an Alpha to have the same attributes as a AAA title is just... I don't even... Said who to what now? Any reply of "herpaderp", pretty much proves the person you were replying to as correct.

Wait..wait... what if!

It shouldn't be martyrdom a la CoD. And it shouldn't be able to be set up BY the dead player before he/she dies. Booby traps should exist in this game, but should only operate from a third party. Example Survivor 1 dies Bandit 1 finds corpse and places IED Survivor 2 comes upon corpse Bandit 1 triggers detonation Survivor 2 dies Boobytrapping shouldn't be to discourage killing others and looting their bodies, it should be there to have players think twice about any random corpse you come across. And I'm not sure how it would play out with the hyper-fixed loot spawns we've got going on. -
Yep, it's whack. I think they should just make nights brighter, they're far too dark now to be called realistic. I get that it's based on server location weather, but the cloudiest nights I've seen in the most rural locations aren't pitch freakin' black. If nights were more reasonable, I think there would be less of a reward for jacking up the gamma. This'll prolly get locked cause it's been brought up countless times.

How Is The Community Enjoying The Game?
Katana67 replied to GrAnzSkY's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I definitely play lone wolf all day. I mean, people I've encountered on Day Z are either incompetent or want to take your shit... neither of them are helpful. To those who think soloing is impossible on 1.5.7, are you high off your ass? I've got a Coyote Backpack, M4 w/ 6 mags, DMR w/ 4 mags, most utilities, a ton of cooked meat... all by myself. It's so much better now that soloing is difficult, not easy. You can't play the same way, you have to be stealth... not kill all zombies. You shouldn't be able to go guns blazing into a town without a MASSIVE amount of zombies being turned on to you. If you want to solo, you have to make as small of a footprint as possible... on other players and on the zombies in the towns. You've got to accept that, short of having a LMG... you're not going to be mowing down zombies all day. Get blood from cooked meat, you can get EIGHT freakin' steaks from a damn cow! Each healing you 800 health. It's a massive target standing stationary in the middle of a field. You've got to learn that Day Z is as much about simple survival as a concept, rather than just surviving zombies. As to the OP, I'm really enjoying Day Z. It's the game of my dreams, and it's only in Alpha. There's something to be said about that. Only thing I'm pissed about is that my friend is too cheap (He has a bo-jillion dollars in the bank) to buy a mid-range gaming computer to play alongside me. -
Yep, it's whack.

Probably zombies are attracted to talking players. Aw Lawd. Not a good idea, this'll simply force groups of people to use teamspeak and skip that completely. I think it's a brilliant idea to punish idiots who mic spam in global. No more "ANY FRiENDLIES IN CHERNO!?!?!" spam! Yay! There's always friendlies in Cherno... there's always bandits too...

To the camp north of Stary Sobor on US5
Katana67 replied to Tubby McChubbles's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Damn, I commend you sir. Perhaps the tents just... disappeared. Did you see any players at those tents? I came across three plus tents, two cars, a bus, and very possibly a helicopter (heard it, didn't see it) and glassed it from 500m and shot a dude within ten minutes of being there. Lucky I guess. -
thanks for the update rocket :) Say worrrd... Sounds good. Zombies investigating player deaths will be sweet, hopefully will discourage over-PKing and draw some zombies away from the cities occasionally. Interested to see the desalinization stuff. I think as more tertiary inventory stuff gets added, you'll see players making choices like... Oh, I can't fit a hunting knife but I need a desalinization device. Having all the utilities in the third slot is possible now with room to spare, will be interesting to see how that plays out when you can't have everything at once.

How to kill/melee/gut a chicken/animals in dayz?
Katana67 replied to RaedwulfGamer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Find gun, find knife, shoot animal, access "Gut Animal" in action menu, gut, find Matches, make fire, light fire, cook, eat... nap. -
You misinterpret. I don't seek to remove any type of morality from people's thought. Merely trying to get people to realize that... it's subjective... and the more you try and reason with your own morality, the more it gets warped (bad or good). It's not moral relativism that I'm advocating either, just moral neutrality and not thinking oneself is special by trying to reason off actions. Obviously, this is up for interpretation, as are all philosophical arguments. But people, bandits specifically, spend FAR too much time bargaining off why they kill people (with misplaced sentiments of "I'm doing this for the good of my victim so he/she won't make the same mistake again", when in reality... for whatever reason, you're just killing people just the same as a blunt murderer. Point being, it's just silly trying to assign all of these arbitrary reasons and justifications when we're all doing the same thing as bandits and that nobody is special. Furthermore, there are indeed, legitimate reasons for killing others. Such as the objective of the game, survival, but it is when these idiotic notions of a "necessary evil" come into play that people start thinking they're special. The assigning of some twisted morality to something that is (arguably) immoral is just futile, and doesn't serve any end. I'm not asking for bandits to be liked, just better understood... and part of the misunderstanding is generated by idiot bandits who're overthinking the simple fact of what they're doing. DISCLAIMER - This is entirely within the context of the game, I hold very, very different philosophical beliefs in the real world.

Spooning under flare-light will be rampant.

Do you remember your first murder or murderer?
Katana67 replied to tyler_1111@hotmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Just looted a CZ at the longhouse in Staroye. Walked outside to check the town and see if there were any zombies about, there weren't. Heard a noise in the field behind me and whipped around to see a bandit sighting me in with a SMLE. I sighted him in and immediately squeezed off a shot, crosshairs were leveled on his face... and that's where the round landed. Went down like a ton of bricks and I went about my day. -
less likely to shoot female survivor?

Absolutely not. That bitch's gettin' cooked the same as everyone else who's a threat. -

I also find it interesting that they were hoping they'd find a player to kill, and then got shot at by one player... and after disconnecting... were somehow offended that it was 1 v 4 and they were at a disadvantage. Wha... I don't even... -
I'm really looking forward to having the chat gone, I'm actually pretty indifferent to the VON, as it can be muted. But having a wall of chat and modlists when everyone logs in totally ruins the experience for me sometimes. I think it should be a server setting as well. I don't really like playing on Hardcore servers, because I quite enjoy third-person... but everything else I think should go, like global chat, debug monitor, etc (being a toggleable server option). (Yeah, I get that it's Alpha and a debug monitor is necessary. I do think it should be relegated to the server control window, and not the main HUD. The information is really too static for it to be necessary on the HUD.

Yep, they've stated that it's getting removed in the future once Direct is fixed. I'll have a look around for the exact interview, I want to say PC Gamer though. Try a search.

Buildings do collapse in vanilla, normally with explosives. I've heard that buildings have overall "health" though, which can be chipped away with regular ol' rifle rounds.

Holy cowards Batman! Can't wait for Rocket to sneak in a ninja fix that leaves a player in game after an abort for some amount of time so people like this wake up back at square one.
