It's a dumb distinction to make, when you knew what he meant. I call them mags/belts because that's what I was raised to, and it happens to be correct. And yeah, it bugs me when someone misuses the clip/mag deal. But not nearly enough to correct someone on it, when I knew full and well what they meant. It's akin to saying "Hey, nice PC!"... "Uh, excuse me, it's a Mac".

I really don't understand where these hacks happen... I've been teleport-hacked -once-, and I immediately knew what happened and Aborted before they had a chance to kill me. I really find it hard to believe that hackers ruin every... single... Day Z experience that some people have had. I do agree that it's a significant problem which requires a vested effort to fix, but... personally, and from my own experience, it seems to be vastly inflated.

Devblog details on engine architecture for DayZ

When he said "Saints Row customization", the first thought I had was using double-sided dildo's as a melee device. But I digress. I think the standalone will include some more customization, I mean, I don't expect to be able to tweak the angle of my nose or anything... and what we have now is pretty in-depth (just not configurable), However, I'm more looking forward to cuztomizing one's gear (LBVs, boots, pants, holsters, hats, etc). Which I feel is a bit more plausible than face-tweaking. -

Does this mean zombie spawns will be handled by the server and not the client? Because it would sure be nice to not be able to use zombie spawns as a player presence indicator anymore... Not to mention using them for target practice at longer ranges. -

- Increase the consequences of firing your weapon -- Zombies should be coming from -far- off to investigate a loud gunshot, as of now... I can fire a weapon in the middle of a group of zombies... or in an open field... and attract the attention of -no- zombies at all. -

For the love of all that is holy, be sensible about the military and so-called "high-end" weapons. Make them slightly rarer if you must, but be sensible. They are essential and need to be handled delicately, not completely screwed in favor of zombie-movie cliche's (Sawn-off shotguns, chainsaws, hatchets, etc). -
DayZ is a joke in its current form

Haters and lovers must come to an agreement, we are operating in a broken system. That is the nature of the alpha, which is now simply being used as a testbed for standalone. Rightly so. However, the lack of teamwork and lack of things to do once geared up is the problem we face. It is a fair problem, and the reason for us playing the alpha. There are other solutions to KoS-ing than simply encouraging teamwork however. I speak of just giving the player more tools to do general "stuff". Blocking off roads and buildings, forming settlements, maintaining camps, scavenging for materials, more survival requirements, weapons maintenance. The list goes on. If I were more consumed in going about these activities, I would be less inclined to either seek out other players to kill or venture into risky places just for the hell of it. Furthermore, giving players the tools to accomplish things as a team would further discourage this. Vehicles are a great example, as commonly, for a helicopter... it takes a group to repair such a thing. This, is obviously a flawed system in my opinion, as it is far too easy to do with a minimal amount of effort. But that is just me talking. The concept itself remains, if there were more "big-ticket" items that require a group to fix/create/etc, there would be less time spent going to Cherno/Elektro. The fact remains that once you're relatively geared up, there's nothing left to do but kill. Survival, on the whole, is secondary. If you've got 3 or 4 Cooked Meat and a Water Bottle, you're set. You've nothing left to do but kill others. Survival vs. environment, and survival vs. zombies needs to be made more difficult. Survival vs. players is already self-explanatory. Lastly, the argument of "Don't go to Cherno/Elektro", though simplistic, certainly makes sense. I should preface this by saying, I don't want people to -never- enter the big cities. However, these cities should no longer be attractive to low-level players. It creates a situation where people never know anything else, other than Cherno/Elektro. The cities should be dangerous to all. There needs to be serious repercussions for firing a weapon in and around the cities, and cities need to have far more persistent zombies than they do now. It is my personal opinion, that there sould be a random "FOB" spawn in the woods to further disperse high-end loot away from the typical settings (NWAF and Stary). One per server, with a respawn of say 12 hours. Puts more interest in the woods, and disperses high-end loot in a manner that makes sense. -
Sniper Rifles and Sniper Role Changes.

Gotta' love this pseudo-moral high-ground that people take against sniping, like it's just the equivalent of beating baby seals. Sure, don't cater to one playstyle... but idiot gamers will always hate on sniping. Why? Because they fail to realize that it is -designed- to be unfair, irritating, and a nuisance. If it wasn't based on a severe advantage differential (stealth, distance, caliber, etc) it wouldn't be sniping... it would be shooting at people in the middle of a field facing each other. Which, simply isn't done anymore. Sure, make it harder to snipe (I guess) just don't ruin it for those who aren't so influenced by the mere emotion of "Dawww, sniping sucks! No fair! They must be 1337 uber-gamer nerds who only want a good K/D". Or maybe, they're just smart and like to minimize risk? Get over it. Offer opinions on how to change what you want, please don't use moronic and unfounded "gamer" cliches about why sniping is somehow a bad thing. -
I also think there needs to be a difference, as I think there already is a little, in firearm vs. zombie damage and firearm vs. player damage. Because we're shooting rounds into, supposedly, two different animals (as it were) with two very different sets of behaviors. Succinctly put, I think it needs to be decided upon whether zombies and humans can take more/less damage or the same. As for weapons being nerfed, I can't really say I've found them lacking (besides pistols). If you put two 9x19mm rounds into someone's chest, they're going down for sure. Likewise with .45 ACP and so-on. The only weapons that I've experienced being "underpowered" are the Bizon and the MP5SD. All of the AR's and AK's feel right enough to me, likewise with the sniper rifles. There are other issues that I feel are a detriment to the combat, namely the (in my opinion) un-reasonable suppression effect and stupidly long "recovery" period after sprinting. Running PSD drills, we're sprinting pretty heavily and making accurate shots no problem. It's a matter of muscle memory, not physical endurance in this case. Unless you're peering down a high-magnification scope with your chest pumping, you're still going to be able to hit what you want to hit.

DayZ suggestion #5 - Chainsaw
Katana67 replied to DANNY (ZOMBES THE HERO)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Too cliche and impractical for me, sorry. If it were included as a tool, then perhaps. But as a weapon, Romero's tongue-n-cheek zombie lore called... it wants its weapon of choice back. -
There should be no high grade weapons in standalone

Not only that... but he's assuming that Chernarus = Real World Russia. Who's to say that NATO doesn't have FOB's throughout Chernarus? Who's to say NATO doesn't have a presence at the airfields? Point being, the Day Z world is fictional... thus, Rocket is probably going to take some creative liberties. If that means high-end weapons become rarer, fine. But they should remain a hallmark of the mod. What would be the purpose of putting in cliche'd zombie weapons? You'd just have Dead Island - Autumn Terror! Part of Day Z's lineage, and purpose, is to realistically depict a zombie apocalypse/infection. And surprise, surprise, guess what is becoming more and more prevalent in the real world? Small-arms proliferation. Even regular 11B's get fucking Multicam BDU's, tricked out M4's, PMAGs, and I've even seen some sporting suppressors nowadays. The days of SOF having all the dope gear and the grunts having Vietnam-era M16's are over, same goes with Russia and their AK-variants. Sure, SOF might have a slight advantage in that they get new equipment, and new products with -slight- advantages (ex. SCAR, SpecterDR, SOPMOD Block II stuff). But, honestly, ARMA 2's arsenal is -dated- as hell. If you think an M4A1 with a foregrip, Aimpoint, and a flashlight is "high-end", maybe you should talk to every 11B in Afghanistan right now... or every firearms enthusiast in the United States. - ARMA 2's arsenal is dated and nothing there is "high-end", save for perhaps the AS50 (Which sucks in-game by the way, why do people think it's god's gift to man?) - Day Z's purpose is to realistically depict a zombie infection. Thus, military weapons should be available in tandem with "civilian weapons" - The line between military and civilian weapons is non-existant in a lot of countries. It's not as black and white as "Civilian = Hunting rifle w/ Walmart scope and Military = Mk 17 w/ PEQ-15 and EGLM". I've got an AR-15 with Magpul furniture and an ACOG, I'm a civilian... civilians can have semi-automatic military assault rifles in a lot of countries. Deal with it. - Cliche'd zombie weapons are cliche'd, der. (Post started out as a reply to yours and then evolved into a rant, so no offense intended. Sort of baffled as to why this thread is still here) -
There should be no high grade weapons in standalone
Katana67 replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Removing weapons wouldn't accomplish that. This game isn't meant to be fair. I'm pretty desperate when I've got an Enfield and the other guy's got an M240. I deal with it. Removing weapons is a fucking caveman moron solution to discouraging deathmatching. Maybe diversify the spawns so Cherno isn't such a clusterfuck? Maybe make weapons rarer? Maybe give people more the tools to accomplish objectives other than just killing? Maybe put in a grouping mechanic? Maybe endorse one of the MYRIAD of solutions already out there, that doesn't shortchange the game. Removing things, that work, should never be an option. Tweaking the system to benefit the entire game is. But word on the street is that you're a troll, which makes sense given how incoherent and nonsensical your statements are. Later. -
There should be no high grade weapons in standalone
Katana67 replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
All this hate for high-end weapons is totally and absolutely absurd. I don't want to be using chainsaws, double-barrelled shotguns, bolt-actions, and fucking hatchets to kill zombies like every other cliche. High-end weapons, be it an M4A1 with an optic... AK-variant... or an M107 -EXIST- in the world... -EXIST- on military bases... and similar analogs are readily available in most countries be it with the military or in the civilian realm. I don't get why people have this adverse reaction to weapons like that, get your head out of Romero's ass and face the real world... these weapons exist and have a place in Day Z. -ESPECIALLY- given it's lineage from ARMA. People will always hate on sniping... you know why? Because it... as a concept... is DESIGNED to be irritating. It's designed to be unfair, and too bad if you don't like it. We're not lining up in fields and taking "fair" shots at one another. Sure, sniper rifles could be made rarer in Day Z. I have no problem with that. But when you say "Most weapons need to be removed from Day Z entirely" you sound like you don't know what you're talking about.- 136 replies

Well, I don't think the average joe would know how to operate an assault rifle... or even start a fire in the wild. So I think we can assume our character has some knowledge of what he/she is doing, and is more an embodiment of us than anything. However, perhaps "Maintenance Handbooks" should be included? Sounds a little to RPG-y to me. And where are these thermal scoped M107's? There's nothing high-tech about an M107, in fact, it's really a simple design... which is why it's a solid platform. It's no more complicated internally than an AK47, just on a larger scale. NVG's are already rare enough in my experience, having found -two- since starting play in April. I do agree that battery life should be a concern. As to the concerns about duping and hacking, I feel that is a separate issue which may play into people's senses of how rare/common a weapon really is. However, it must be addressed separately from the discussion of whether or not high-end weapons should be included at all.

How does the inclusion of scoped weapons translate to a less scary game? Personally, the idea of a sniper in every hedgerow is pretty damn scary to me... as well as counter-sniping. Oh, and being an underequipped survivor with the prospect of being in someone's scope 24/7 in high-risk areas is pretty effing scary. People hate the military weapons so much for some reason. I don't understand why. I get that they should be rare, but I don't want my only reasonable option to be idiotic tongue and cheek zombie cliche's like a double-barrelled shotgun, a hatchet, and a fucking bolt-action. Suprise people, civilians in a lot of countries can own military-grade weapons. I know several people within a five mile radius of myself that own semi-automatic assault rifles, including myself. Granted, this is "Amurrrica" and there is of course... a whole 'nother world out there... but still, weapons proliferation is pervasive globally and it is plausible to find assault rifles in a variety of locations. I'm not saying we should be able to find an AR or AK in every house, but it should be a -rare- possibility. Military installations are pretty obvious, they should have the dope shit... end of story. Perhaps a better solution would be, to have assault rifles without optics... like the bone-stock AK74/AKM and M4A1/M16A2 be available in Deer-Stands and SELDOMLY in a rare house spawn. All weapons with optics should spawn at helicopter crashes and military bases. This is already semi-in-place, but there is some significant overlap. Deer-Stands need to have their own loot category, not just be lumped into General Military. Or, Deer Stands need to be changed to FOB's or OP's or something more military-oriented to justify it. Or, just have optics be a separate item to loot and attach, boom. Some scoped weapons, like the DMR, are far too easy to find. They did a good job with the CZ 550, in that it used to spawn in every house... and now I've only found one in my last 2 months of play... much less any ammo for it. However, that doesn't mean they shouldn't be in the mod... nor should it mean that they're somehow a detriment to Day Z. I also don't see the problem with NVG's and NV weapons. It took me three months of play to find one on a dead player, and another month to find one at a helicopter spawn. Not using that as hard evidence, but in my own experience, they're rare enough. Now, do I think they should be compatible with scoped weapons? Maybe. Doesn't bother me, but I could live without it. NV weapons however, I wouldn't mind having them gone, simply because they're far too useless to me to justify anything. EDIT - And also, with what Rocket said about batteries and whatnot, that is a great way of making high-end weapons more realistic and balanced [i guess, I personally think they're just fine]. Hell, a weapon maintenance mechanic would be more than welcome... and I assume it'll be in the standalone. EDIT 2 - I reitterate, I do -NOT- want my only weapon choices to be cliche'd zombie weapons... like a chainsaw, or a double-barrelled shotgun, or a bolt-action, or a hatchet/crowbar. Regardless of what Max Brooks might have shoved up the asses of every idiot, AR-15's kill people just fine... they'll kill zombies just fine too. Every round that's not .30-06 isn't trash.

Increased use of Armaversum in DayZ Standalone
Katana67 replied to tommygun9504's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
While there does need to be a fleshing out of the lore in Day Z, I don't think the Arma universe is where we should be looking. I think it should be fairly independent and grounded in it's own lore. -
Nope, just says "You have been kicked from the game". BattleEye initializes, then I get dropped, I think it's 1.67 or something. I updated BE manually to the latest version as well, same thing.
-
I get "You have been kicked from the game", immediately, with every server I log into on 1.7.2.4. Do I need to re-install? Checked the troubleshooting forum, nothing has helped.
-
Yeah, Day Z was working fine yesterday... now I can't join a game. It immediately kicks me, from all servers. Tried a re-install of Day Z, did not work. Any suggestions?

By certain servers, do you mean most? Because every server, regarless of patch, beta, or country is not letting me in. EDIT - @ Above, I get kicked -immediately-. Get into the server, welcome screen shows, then I get kicked. -
I don't understand the logic behind this. What is wrong with having military weapons? Enlighten us.
