Do you prefer fast zombies or slower zombies?
Katana67 replied to kevinthegreat's topic in General Discussion
This is pretty much where I see folks go when they argue that slow and numerous zombies are threatening. The "you fuck up, so they kill you" argument. Which is applicable to fast zombies as well. Stay in one area too long? They rush you. Make too much noise? They rush you. Want to smell nice for the lady back at camp? They rush you. Same concept, without the bumbling campy tropes. -
Holy cow! Looks pretty rad. But might be a bit over my proverbial tech pay-grade. That said, I've been missing the ol' Xbox controller since they (inadvertently or not) removed controller support. And, oddly enough, you'll find the KBM folks a lot less hostile if you don't include the long diatribe at the beginning. I used both KBM and a controller when it was supported. At the same time. Get on my level peasants.

Do you prefer fast zombies or slower zombies?
Katana67 replied to kevinthegreat's topic in General Discussion
First fallacy of the day. Why can't there be crowds of fast zombies? How is a lumbering crowd of rotting corpses, that you can dance casually around as they swipe aimlessly at you like morons, something to be feared? I mean, there's a reason why they chained them up at the end of Shaun of the Dead and put them to work in supermarkets. It's worth mentioning that George Romero didn't create the concept of the "zombie." Good thing, too, as "true" zombies are reincarnated through magical means. Sounds more "realistic" than a virus though. Magic! Infected folks. Not rotting bags of non-threatening bones please. Rocket, keep on doing what you're doing. -

Na. No sir. Negative. This one's on fire! Not this! Certainly not this! Bonk! Well that must've been hard! Bro, it's closer to this than anything, okay? See, I can use baseless hyperbole too! -
I believe so. They hired an audio dude a while back, haven't heard much out of that in a while. I think most of the weapons sound fine, save for perhaps the M4A1. More concerned with how suppressors will be handled, and how zombie aggro will be drawn by audio cues in the future.

Beware, doesn't allow the use of iron sights. PU or LRS is a must-have.

Works fine out to 200m for me when rested. And insanely well when not rested inside of 50m. It's not accurate for picking up items, but it works pretty consistently for shooting. I'll give you that it now (as previously in ARMA, the dot/line indicated how out of breath you were) acts independently of your exhaustion. But if you're not coming off of a sprint, it's pretty accurate.

What clothing set/weapons would you add if you could?
Katana67 replied to SomeCallMeNomad (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Ukrainian Tavors galore...s! There's your High-Capacity Vest there too! Pretty sure the optics in the first are just Trijicon RX30s with sheathes over them. BONUS - Out of all the images I've seen coming out of Ukraine, featuring railed PKMs... AR-15s/10s... P90s... kitted Mosins... railed AKs... this is the only one that I've come across with a VSS in it that wasn't in the hands of Russian servicemen. BONUS 2 - FSB Alfa dude w/ HK 417. Might've come back for seconds... or thirds... or fourths... on optics. -
I think the reason most fire from the hip is because there's no real penalty for not doing so, especially with the HUD dot being used for pinpoint accuracy. Which is said to be removed across the board. That and the fact that ARMA/DayZ has pretty cumbersome ADS character movement really pushes people to find the path of least resistance. Definitely needs some attention in my opinion. There's no real incentive to use a CQC optic when in CQC, because you're moving at a snail's pace. I don't really have any issue with hip-fire as a concept, I just have an issue with ADS having no real advantage (aside from when using magnified optics of course) and a ton of added downsides. I'd just rather it not be relied upon as frequently as it is, which could be helped by taking a second look at it.

Cool! Right back at ya' sport! And zombie is just a colloquialism for "infected" in this case, they are different interpretations/explanations of the same concept. Not to mention that the mod had viral zombies (1.7.7 IIRC), viral. Here's the Wikipedia description... And here's an unused and unfinished intro from the mod files... -
"Loot: Some guns spawn with ammo now " anyone seen this?
Katana67 replied to Forrelist's topic in General Discussion
Never seen it happen. This is unfortunate, though. Much more subtle solutions (i.e. just making certain magazines more common) than shoving them next to their respective weapons to make weapon utilization all the more inconsequential. Hopefully it's just ammunition, and not full magazines. That still sucks, but it's better (as you don't automatically get a fully-functioning weapon with just the ammunition). Never really had an issue finding ammunition for anything. Only thing people seem to complain about is finding magazines for as-of-yet not balanced weapons. -
It's okay, not bad and not really better than anything else. Magazines need to spawn in residential areas if they aren't already, if they are, they need to be more common. And could probably benefit from an optic or a few muzzle attachments (I believe a compensator is on file for the CR527, could be wrong). In my opinion, the SKS and Mosin outclass pretty much everything out there currently in terms of capability, availability of ammunition/magazines/clips, availability of optics, etc. The actual operator-side behaviors (i.e. recoil, turning speed, etc.) are negligible for me at this point by comparison to the innate capabilities of the weapons. Rarity and ease of supply will always be the most significant factors when I look at a weapon.

Balota Military Camp Moving to New Location! [SenChi Tweet]
Katana67 replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
So, this raises an interesting dilemma. Even if Balota is moved to the NW (and bear in mind, we're only talking about the tents, the hangars and ATC will ostensibly remain) any spawn closer than, or, in Elektro will be advantaged over other spawns. Personally, I'd like to see there be a new Stary Sobor analog be created in the center of the map to either offset the advantage of a potential Prigorodky spawn... Or... They could just limit the westerly spawns on the southern coast to Elektro at the furthest. A Stary Sobor analog isn't really necessary anymore, given that we've got police stations in every other town which has spread out the mid-range loot across the map. Model 1 Model 2 Legend - Red Diamond = current high-value loot location - Yellow Diamond = Balota changes - Green Diamond = Potential locations for a Stary Sobor analog - Blue Box = Spawn zones -
Eh, wilderness has been marginalized. I like that the western corridor of cities has been made more attractive. But, the wilderness still needs work. And I don't really see that many people out west. Once vehicles get implemented and tents are more advantageous, I suspect it'll get crowded pretty quickly.

I think he means something more like this... Discrimination (noun) - the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of weapons or things, especially on the grounds of rails, origin, or "realism" a : the act, practice, or an instance of discriminating categorically rather than individually b : prejudiced or prejudicial outlook, action, or treatment That's right... I went there... We shall overcome. -

Balota Military Camp Moving to New Location! [SenChi Tweet]
Katana67 replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
Moving spawns was something that they did to test the east-west axis where they're adding cities. And they can't really have people spawning on the southern coast anymore due to the shift from a high-value loot distribution that didn't really make much sense (i.e. NEAF, Balota, Stary, and NWAF) to a well-defined western "promised land" of high-value loot locations. That and there's also the issue of NEAF as well (which is essentially a northeast mirror of Balota), which was changed. So it's consistent in that regard. I can't speak for what the community wants, because from what I've seen... many people want different things. And even then, I can only speak for myself. There's no monolithic "community" that wants one thing. -

Yeah, I don't like the Dubrovka spawns either. I don't really think they're going back on anything, aside from a bit of an overstep with saying that Prigorodky (and, arguably, Elektro) are acceptable spawn locations. But I do think they need to make up their minds. -
Do you prefer fast zombies or slower zombies?
Katana67 replied to kevinthegreat's topic in General Discussion
Because they're zombies, and they're fictional, and can do whatever they want. They're infected human beings, not decaying corpses. They have all of the physical faculties of a normal human being. They don't run like Usain Bolt in-game, in perfect form, they just run the best they can. And I'm not sure how you're getting "they can barely walk," they just shamble around. They're not struggling. They're not tripping over themselves. They're just human beings who are not of sound mind, and are not in full control of the precision of their bodies, due to infection. When they see a stimulus, they run at it. Not sure what the issue is. -
Do you prefer fast zombies or slower zombies?
Katana67 replied to kevinthegreat's topic in General Discussion
Nobody, that's why it was rhetorical. Last time I checked, the zombies in DayZ weren't world-class sprinters. They just keep up with the player. And last time I checked, they were a fictional interpretation/depiction. They can be however they want them to be. Are people still under the impression that DayZ's zombies are "undead" vice infected human beings? -

Katana67 replied to kevinthegreat's topic in General Discussion
I don't sprint all of the time, do you? Zombies shamble when inactive, then sprint when alerted. Similar to how I don't sprint while waiting in line for coffee, and don't walk casually when getting chased by the police. -

There's also this misunderstanding that people seem to still endorse. The illusion that you can't have sprinters and have numerous hordes of said sprinters. Why yes, yes you can. -

Katana67 replied to kevinthegreat's topic in General Discussion
70% sprinters 20% shamblers 10% oddball (crawlers, hoppers, etc.) Romero zombies are insanely boring. His type of approach to zombies, and the genre in general (no matter how seminal it was), will get no love from me. Infected (28 Days Later) are much more terrifying in my opinion. -

Definitely! All of those would be neat! I do think they should add in a few more optics (mostly on the Warsaw Pact end). FAL all day. -
Balota Military Camp Moving to New Location! [SenChi Tweet]
Katana67 replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
I saw that. Kamyshovo would be fine with me. Elektrozavodsk is borderline for me, it'd still be an 8 kilometer hike to Pavlovo (whereas Berezino-NWAF is less than 8 kilometers). And Prigorodky is unacceptable to me, a measly 5 kilometer hike to Pavlovo? No way. And I'd agree that it's a straightforward trip from Berezino to Balota (in just following the coast) but I wouldn't say easy. Certainly not any easier than a trip from Berezino to NWAF. You've still got to negotiate two of the largest (if not the largest, I don't know anymore) cities in the game.
