Note, I typed this on a phone. Auto correct has made a few lol worthy changes, so I didn't fix them. I had hopped on to make a quick solo run at stary before work. Didn't expect much company at 7am. Got done at stary. Ran out found some bushes and tabbed out to check the time. Tabbed back in time to hear your first shots. I was planning to log out, but that was nolonger an option. I had no ducking clue where you were, so I hauled add though that line of trees and bushes. You mustache hit me a once or twice I was at 7k blood and dropping. Found some nice cover, bandaged and ate 8 griffin steaks (iron stomach GO!). You found me again so I ran some more and dove under a tree. still clueless as to where you were. I guess you lost me too. I laid low, you ran right infront of me and stopped. 20 rounds from my m14 later and I was alive and you were dead. 10 minutes late to work, hot sambhar that was intense though. I griffin wish I had left traps running before I had tabbed out. Good luck gearing, and see you around man!

1.7.2 Opinion thread. All your opinions, good and bad, go here.
[email protected] replied to Denuth's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Zed detection is highly inconsistent from what I've encountered. Sometimes I pull zed from 150+m, sometimes I'm practically on top of them. May have a good video to post when I get back from work showing this. Imo, zeds are aggroing a bit to easily from a far. And they are spawning on top of you still in many cases. Beyond that, its pretty sweet. If the zed detection becomes more consistent, I think this build is really good so far. Would like ghillies back though. Also, is the hive not updating player location/inventory correctly. I've been spawn back where I had logged in on a previous play a few times. That and I coulda swore I dropped a remington for an AK 74 and ammo. Logged in later to find i had the ammo and the remimgton. Maybe I effect up switching. -
v1.7.2 Aggros zombies much more then usual?
[email protected] replied to resausk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've pulled zed from about 150m give or take. Not all the zed I've encountered are that easy to aggro, dunno, something seems off... Are respawns buggy too? I've cleared areas only to have zed spawn pratically on top of me again..... Balota med tents. Musta brought down 20+ or so because they kept spawning. That and two survivors. If you guys see this, in retrospect you may have been trying to help me, but your shots kept whipping by my head and you even clipped me once. So sorry, had to bring you down. Nivo and Dumo. Something like that. -
lol, but seriously, can anyone detail the major changes? They seem to see much better now, can't get close at all. Forget crossing road with anything but a crawl from 50+m. And they horde like non other.

Well, after sitting at the "loading" portion of the loading screen for quite some time I ended up on the debug plains. I've been there before and even escaped (didn't play Day Z for a bit, logged on one day and I was back where I had logged off before the plains). Sooo, bottom line(s), am I screwed? Is the hive taking a beating and I should try later? Does yellow snow taste good? Other advice?

Something tells me.... not an effing chance. Would love to be pleasantly surprised though.

Did you just spawn on the coast? Did a man in a ghillie suit just pop out of a bush? If your lucky, he's me. I'm not here to shoot you. I'm here to help you survive. I'll probably drop you some basic supplies, maybe even some ammo and a gun. New to chernarus? I might even help you loot your fist town. So far, I've helped a handful of people, even formed a little group with two of em. If I've helped you, feel free to leave a thank you here and help float this thread around the top so new players can see it. I find that most people get put off by this game because it is soo awesomely unforgiving and tough. But once they get the hang of it, they love it. So I'm here to help ease the learning curve cause I like this mod and want people to spread good PR about it. That and its frankly fun for me to help you. All I ask is, you know, don't shoot me. :D If anyone would like to meet up, you can PM me.

lol baz.... Hey kidz, you like beans? I've got lots of beans... Had to put down a survivor today. Shoot at me once, I'll leave you alone. Shoot at me twice, I'll circle around and put one in the back of your head. DK, if you ever need kit, just, you know, don't shoot me. Woulda given you a nice shiny 1911 instead of that makarov.

Killing zombies doesnt do anything
[email protected] replied to nooblord's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think he is getting at how zed keep spawning right on top of you. IMO, zed should spawn back in but a little further out, at least in small towns. You can be in a small town with maybe a dozen zed. If you shoot though, sometimes you end up having to kill three times that many because of frequent respawns. If the spawned further away from the player(w/o aggro but moving closer), small towns wouldn't be swarmed from nowhere. In bigger towns ans cities, spawn em close and keep the rush coming. You just shot a gun in a city full of zed. -
Location and timezone would be nice to mention, also your steam name.

So I found a tent a few days back. My buddy and I plopped it down and put some stuff in it. After the hive attack i was worried we lost everything. Luckily, we went back and found the tent, but our sutff was gone. maybe we got raided, shit happens or maybe our stuff just got lost. Plopped a gun in it and went off. Figure if the gun gets taken, our spot was found. Came back a day later.... the whole tent was gone...... So I'd like to ask three questions. 1) What is the proper procedure for placing/saving and storing stuff in a tent. 2) how stable are tents currently? 3) Are tents expected to be improved in the near future?

We've all been told growing up not to leave doors open. But some of us forget why we should close doors. So here are the top five reasons you shouldn't leave doors open. 5) You'll let all the cold air out. 4) The dog will escape. 3) Bugs will get in. 2) Hobos will take your food. 1) Backstory in video description. Occured on Chicago 57 around 8pm. "timewarps back to the 90's" Would the really bad shooter please stand up? :D Video is up now. Also the game sounds hilarious at 10x speed. Constant buzzing is the flies.

Who's playing guitar in Cherno???

heh, give us a nice heads up for the concert. I have begun to stockpile some kit for guards, you're gonna need em. -
So, I was thinking about how there is no long range in game communication. I've heard that radios may be coming, but I expect those will be uber rare if/when they get added. Direct chat is the only in game option, but a lot of people will shoot you well before you can get that close just to be safe. It could be that both survivors would be friendly, but neither wants to expose them self to being shot to find out. So, how then can survivors communicate their intentions without closing into direct chat range? My idea was a flare gun. After giving it more thought, I think it would be a good addition to day z for a couple reasons beyond just communication. So, here is my idea. FYI: I'm just because I'm saying survivor to describe players doesn't mean I don't mean bandits. Everyone is a survivor. It's all about how you choose to survive. Note: Some of these idea can be accomplished with normal flares, but using the flare gun would be generally more useful and effective, especially at longer ranges. Tool - Flare Gun. Description: Fires a flare up into the air, or perhaps whatever direction the survivor is looking. Activated from tool belt, or knowing Rocket, takes place of the pistol. Uses road flares for ammunition, or possibly flare gun rounds that can be converted to/from road flares. Rarity: On par with watch/compass. Loudness: Makarov-ish. But also with noise from the flare itself along flight path. Definitely a unique, easily identifiable sound would be nice. Something like "pop and sizzle." Flares: Parachute flares or not? Parachutes would be nice, particularly at night. But would it be too good? Also, implementation might be difficult unless ArmA already has something similar. Uses: A different kind of light source at night (top down light). Distract zed. Fire a flare down a road. Flare attracts any zed near its flight path to the final resting place of the flare. A form of long range communication. Survivors can fire flares into the air to announce their presence to other survivors. From a communication standpoint, its gives the user a level of protection since it can be used well outside Direct Chat range. Perhaps best of all, it is completely vague about its meaning. If someone fires a flare, it could be a gesture of good will, they might be friendly. Or maybe they are just trying to lure you out in the open for a clear shot. Do you respond with a flare of your own? Do you hide/run? Do they even know you are here (they could be firing just to check for any responses)? Say you fired the first flare and you get a response. All those situations I just mentioned apply to you too. Plus you took a risk, maybe there is no response, but someone is there waiting for your loot. In summary, the flare gun would provide a new light source at night, a new way to distract zed, and a way for survivors to communicate beyond Direct Chat range.
