I am sorry for those that like to see the game go elsewhere, but that was bloody awesome! I keep saying it, everyone chooses there own way on how to play Arma/this mod, and this is a fine example of that. In what other gameworld do you get to experience mayhem like that? Sure it's a bit sadistic, but that's a word invented by humans...for humans. Brilliant stuff  :D ! PS: I sure hope this shit wasn't staged, if it was....thx again, it's well performed ;)

Can we talk about my fps? Here are my specs
Mercator replied to Enfrozt's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well, I use one for scripting Arma missions, but that's on the lowest settings as I can get it and with as little AI as possible when testing. A full size rig will run it better I believe. -
Can we talk about my fps? Here are my specs

Is that a laptop you are using? Arma is notoriously bad on laptops. -
Hi there, fella ;) , Seems my post rubbed you the wrong way there...sorry 'bout that. But let's clarify a few things, okay? Firstly, these are friends of mine I was talking about. They themselves have absolutely no troubles describing themselves as more of the "instant action on a very easy platform" type of guys. And these are adults with wives and children I'm talking about, so why should I restrain myself from refering to them as "playstation, xbox, cod, bf3 types"? Even though that's not my preferred gaming style, I'm more of a sim guy, I still go out on saturday nights for drinks with them. They might not get how I can spend 2 hours navigating an airplane through a storm and try to land it in the fog (they refer to me as the sim nerd :D )...but we get along fine, understand? Secondly, I consider surviving encounters with other players as much a part of the survival aspect of this game, as I do surviving zombies! That should be easy enough to understand, no? I have always said that Arma is a game with such an amount of freedom, that the players themselves become responsible for how the game is played. Not the devs, they just provide the platform. I don't see this mod as any different. Goodday, sir.

Here we go with the quantity equals quality argument again... I guess McDonalds is probably the finest meal money can buy too, huh? But seriously...the guy is right when he says he provides a lot of the scary atmosphere ingame, no doubt about that. As long as he keeps it "ethically correct" (whatever that might mean in the cod kiddie world :D ) and doesn't hack or disconnects and flanks on another server when he encounters some resistance, he'll always be welcome with me.

Why does this game get worse with every patch?
Mercator replied to woofed's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Community gets worse with every 15 year old, hearing about this awesome zombie game, where you can really annoy people by being an ass ingame and on the forums. Apparently the lure is irresistible. -
You could be right. Just about every fella I know in real life, that was interested in the game, was going like "Ooh, yeah! I'm gonna be the baddest mofo for sure!". Not one of them was interested in the survival aspect of the game. To expand on that, I'll have to add that these are without exception the playstation, xbox, cod, bf3 types.

Like work on Arma3?

And you didn't do the hollywood impression of a tough movie hero saying something macho like "Allright, if this is it.. ? Then I'm prepared to meet my maker, but I'm not sure he's prepared to meet a SOB like me...let's see, fellas. I'm dying to know!" You missed out on an opportunity to show them what awesome coolness is, my friend...

I never cease to be amazed at the amount of people that torture themselves doing stuff they don't like...for fun... Now if you were complaining about how you were writing a paper for school, and your dog ate it right before you finished and you had to start over...yes, been there (sort of :D ) and I understand that. But whining about dying in a game where the objective is survival, also otherwise known as "not dying", kinda defeats the point of the game, no?

Interesting...crabs have tough lives for sure ;)

Who knows what a zombie can or cannot do? Nobody has ever seen or met one, as far as I know... So let's just accept Rocket's take on them, would be my suggestion ;)

Killed by 2 guys I played with for over three hours
Mercator replied to Kylez's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The psychological aspect of this mod is just phenomenal, don't you think? You get shot (murdered ;) ) plenty in other games aswell, but what makes it so horrible in this one, is that most of the time you can't easily exact revenge on the culprit. Especially when in some situations you feel as though you gained someones trust and vice versa, you just wanna pay that sucker back...but then you spawn 7km away from him (and probably will never find him again). Hence the feelings of injustice, distrust and, as I often read here,...pure disgust at what just happened to them. I love it :D ! -
Default range is 300 on most weapons that have it. You need to adjust it yourself.

Its time to stop being babys
Mercator replied to The_Cake_Is_a_Spy109's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Good luck with that and I mean it! But I can't see it happen, sorry. There are a few forums I frequent, that are generally mature and where people can have disagreements in a civilised manner. But these are definately exceptions. The levee broke a long, long time ago. Whatever inhibitions people still have in real life social encounters (and this has also been degrading over the years) most of them let go of those once they hit the internet. Anonimity will do that for you. And as this is a forum where the bulk of the posters are probably younger fellas that grew up on a steady diet of internet, social media and cellphones...pleading for polite and mature conversation-discussion-disagreement will most likely be for naught. -
This is why I think the devs should implement occasional zombies in the woods and uninhabitated areas. There shouldn't be any place in Chernarus where you feel safe enough to just put on the autopilot...just maybe "safer" than towns, villages and military structures. The danger should literally be everywhere ;)

Ideas for high tier players/equipment, events/missions
Mercator replied to thefonztm@gmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
High tier equipment... What is that? Are those the purple and orange epic weapons you get for fighting the elusive uber zombie boss? -
Its an M1911!!! -minirant

Nutnfancy joined the DayZ forum, lol. -
Avoid standing on rocks and problem solved. Been that way for ages, it's an Arma thing.

Would it be possible to force a weapons down stance?
Mercator replied to zedqube@gmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Good idea, certainly has a lot of merit in my opinion. However I seriously doubt that it's possible. You can certainly script stances for the AI and I've played some missions where, for instance in the briefing, certain positions, stances and movements of players, were scripted by the missionmaker, but during that stage you also lose control of your character. Once you regain control I don't think there is a way to force a stance without losing control... -
Thanks Nicklas on NL 8 for the bicycle, and your weapons.
Mercator replied to Towbiekun's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Towbie...you have got to be the bestest player evah! That is just an awesome story, bro. I can understand why you'd want to rub this in that guy's face. I sure hope he reads it too and throws a hissyfit :D . Now be sure to keep all that shiny new loot safe...cause you've really made it to the big boy league with all those "top tier items"! Now you can surely go on an unequaled, epic pvp rampage! Be sure to keep us updated on any more epic kills you score, okay? Thx for sharing, homie  ! -
Refreshing post, thx!

This is a simulator not a game.
Mercator replied to Pegasususus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You can approach this game any way you want. You want to play it arcade style?...plenty of servers, sp, coop and mp missions to choose from. You want to approach it as realistically as possible?...same deal, plenty to choose from. Somewhere in between?...yup, no problem! Originally it is marketed as a military simulation, but a better description could be "The game that allows you unprecedented freedom in how you want to play it!". -
I got killed by a server hopper. I quit.
Mercator replied to SP00KEH's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Although I still see this as a 100% Arma mod, I'd rather keep the two worlds separated, Bitter. Mature people will find their way around all that it has to offer anyways. Those who feel offended by my opinion...meh....those who don't...welcome! Feel free to browse past all the DayZ servers and discover what the original game and community has to offer. DayZ remains a (albeit a tasty one  ) sidedish to the main course... -
Take the AK74, it'll be more versatile against players especially. Remember to switch to semi-auto mode (default fire mode on AK's is auto, contrary to western style weapons), as you'll go through your clips pretty fast on auto. Make a habit out of aiming single shots well. As for the pistol issue, I'd go with the 1911...more power and a lot more easily found ammo. The fact the M9 is silenced is good, but still...as a anti-zed weapon the 1911 is quiet enough.
