  1. Oh yes! The buff zombies part (nice way of putting it btw ;) ) and the logout timer thing, I agreed with right away :D
  2. This has got to be the most idiotic reasoning I ever read on this or any other Arma related forum. The first paragraph is simply moronic. Ofcourse it works like that! Ofcourse you can't see left and right at the same time! Please explain in what universe you can do that, be it a game, a sim or real life? Are you actually using that as an argument for telling people that getting shot in this game is simply a case of bad luck? GTFO! Second paragraph is you complaining about how your "uber skillz" don't work in this particular gaming environment...pretty much equals the idiot level of the first paragraph! Ofcourse people with "superior situational awareness and planning" will beat your "old skool arena style fps with fast moving characters and low damage" in this game because this game is not an "old skool arena style fps with fast moving characters and low damage"!!!! Get that through your thick skull! You want to play one of those "old skool arena style fps with fast moving characters and low damage", go ahead and play them! This is like you complaining about why a pitcher can't score a ffing touchdown. Yes, I refer to games that both are being played with a ball, but noone in their right mind would want one to be like the other, because they're good at one but not the other, now would they? Your olk skool fps and Arma both have guns with bullets coming out of them, but that's as far as the simillarities go. Learn to play the game or otherwise stick to your skills in other titles. When WarZ comes out or when DayZ becomes a standalone, have at it, by all means. Untill then you are stuck with a mod of a game that nobody forces you to play.
  3. Reminds me of when I was playing a coop mission with 30 players and this happened in the assembly area right as we were about to start out. The dude actually screamed "grenade" and ran to the nade and jumped prone on it! Ofcourse he missed it by a couple of meters and it blew about 5 people out of the mission. He stood up and apologized profusely and was surprised he got a little applause :D
  4. Nice way of letting the devs know which direction you wanted the mod to evolve in. And please also accept the fact that there are people who have been playing the base game for years already and are sick and tired of others joining this forum after 2 weeks of play, telling others how they don't understand fuck all about this shitty game. And how they are experienced gamers that will take this community by the hand and lead those poor misguided souls to enlightenment and show them what a truely enjoyable game is,which...by all accounts...can't possibly be this crappy, poorly designed, stupidly developed, shitty excuse for a game that Arma (and it's mods) is. And woe to those like me, who've actually enjoyed Arma for years and actually know the game and disagree with them. Yes, you got on my nerves, dear boy. Enjoy it.
  5. Ok, now I get it. You want to play a different game than the one we're talking about. You're hungry and you want to eat but want to go to McDonalds instead of a sushi restaurant. Well, there's absolutely no reason why you should eat raw fish, when there probably is a McD's somewhere in your neighbourhood. You can find them just about everywhere and they're always open, buddy ;) Just don't ask your local sushi chef to cook you up a nice burger with xtra fries, cause you're bound to get some strange looks from him. Bye
  6. I think you are clearly missing the point here. Other game developers don't buy the engine because it was not designed to be a game engine. It was designed to simulate modern military combat for training purposes. And in that version it has been sold to numerous countries and militaries. Arma2 is built off that, some aspects are simplified for gameplay reasons, but in essence it remains more a simulator than a game.
  7. Yes, some of it is luck. Compare it too all those highly trained Spetsnaz, SF, Seals, SAS and whatnot soldiers out there. Fellas that have been training for years, can hit what they aim at and are generally regarded as the best at what they do. They still die. Some things are simply beyond your control. Now this might be a terrible example, but I only used it to highlight the fact that some players, who consider themselves "highly skilled" and "at the top of their game", sometimes feel it as an injustice that they get killed in a situation where they feel they should have the upper hand because of their skills. But it will happen! It could be from ten feet away...it could be from a km away...but someone will get the drop on you! Now the trick is to try to reduce that luck factor as much as possible. The key things you need to remember here are always considering yourself a dude with a big red crosshair on your back...and if necessary...scope a place out way, way longer than you think is necessary. Consider the terrain...why would you run across an open field if you can skirt around and use a hill or forest to obscure your movements? Patience and thinking are the things that'll improve the chances that you will get the drop on the other player, not the other way around! If you spot an enemy in this game, and he hasn't spotted you...then you have already won half the battle! You hear gun shots? Close or far away? In both cases, take immediate measures, be it simply to get away from the gunfire or put yourself in a position where you can actually locate the dude that is firing and see what is going on. If you really want to pit yourself against other human players in the context of warfare, check out this mod. It highlights all those areas I mentioned.
  8. Not if you updated to 1.62 to play the regular game, I'm not even sure there is a new beta out yet. It's only been like one or two days since they released the patch.
  9. I liked his idea for making Zed's more difficult too though ;)
  10. I believe it is. Like I said, I only remember some of it from helping out a friend, but if you go to your games menu, somewhere in there should be an option to create a shortcut for Combined Operations. You can then try running that as admin and see if that helps as Tex suggested. Nvm, Tex already helped you out, good luck!
  11. Fella, some people like jam on their cheese sandwiches, others like ketchup with just about everything... I never really understood that myself, but I'm not going to call them stupid because I like my food another way. Just voice your opinions a bit more diplomatically and you'll get better responses. If that's not your cup of tea and you insist on remaining this abrasive, be my guest then. Because this will then turn out to be another useless thread that will be ignored by the people you want to adress with your concerns about the mod. Because some of them I agree with, as evident in my first post. But maybe it's too late for that already. If you just wanted to vent your frustrations to other people that like to do that too...with insults and inventive ways of talking down others....well, it's already a succes then, isn't it
  12. Can't you use a regular shortcut for starting up CO? I don't have steam, but I helped a friend out with it, and I remember there being an option (right mouse button menu I think) to set up an ordinary shortcut to start your game from.
  13. The skill element in Arma2 only partly comes from lightning fast reactions and pin-point accurate mouse pointing. In this game it actually comes more from planning, flanking, using cover and concealment, patience, anticipating your adversary's actions, reconnoitring area's, etc... For those who are well versed in the "old skool fps like UT" like you, it can be a bit frustrating to see there well honed skills reduced in importance, but once you pay attention to all those things and more, I described earlier, it can be quite challenging and fun. You'll see ;)
  14. Medical system can easily be made a lot more complicated than it is right now and vica versa. The reason it's done in this way in this mod, is to make medical stuff dependant on items you need to have or search for. So the morphine fixing broken legs makes sense in that perspective to me. I agree completely, it's not "realistic" in the true meaning of the word, but from the view of gameplay it is.
  15. Before you alt-tab out of the game, just lower your weapon, it prevents these kind of mishaps as the first lmb touch only raises it again. Or alternatively, use alt-tab to get your way back into the game, instead of left clicking the game in your toolbar. It sometimes fires your weapon because the left click also translates as fire weapon in the game.
  16. Nah, let's entertain him a bit...see what kind of insults he cooks up next. Just don't take him seriously ;)
  17. And a nice little retort like that on your 3rd post, nicely indicates how serious we should take you.
  18. -Completely agree! -Nope. Consequences of being in a gunfight should remain as is. -Life's a gamble...so is playing this mod. -Completely agree! -"almost every other game out there"..??...again with the quantity equals quality argument...this is getting boring. And the "I want it here, right now!" attitude aswell.
  19. You are right. The gfx card takes care of just that..the graphics. But everything else that is client side (which in Arma's case is a lot!) will have to be computed by your processor. The faster your CPU is, the smoother everything will run. That's why the guys that posted above with the 1.6 Ghz processor are having so much difficulties. Laptops are notoriously bad for playing Arma, it's a very demanding game for the CPU. Also, don't be afraid of lowering the settings a bit, the game still looks pretty good on medium(ish) settings. I understand it can be a bit of a surprise/letdown for people that have their pc's running everything else on the highest settings...but this 3 year old game can still bring some of the newest top of the line rigs to it's knees. It's just the nature of the beast.

Day Z is soon to be dead

If you don't realise that "more eloquently crafted and sounder logic" doesn't mean jackshit on the internet, then you are as dumb as you sound...regardless of how "significantly more intelligent" you think yourself to be!

Day Z is soon to be dead

How about just playing the game, see if you like it or atleast some parts of it, and then have the patience to wait untill the guy finishes it. Or...stop playing and wait till that other zombie game comes out. Either way, patience will be involved and that's what I think most of these "critique posters" (or whiners if you want to call them that) are lacking. This "I want it here, right now, dammit!!" attitude will get you nowhere, fellas. The sooner you realise that, the better. Plenty of other fun to be had in the world while you wait...or play :D

    CoD players.....

Some advice...learn how to live through encounters with players as much as encounters with zombies. It'll probably entail being very, very cautious around them. Trust no one! Betrayal is the norm... After some time you might realise that these "CoD players" enhance the game in a weird sort of way aswell. They provide a part of the constant dark and dangerous atmosphere of the mod...you're never and nowhere really safe... Enjoy ;)

I suppose you mean this one? It's the best thing since sliced bread for people who really want to know what their weapons are capable of doing....or not capable of doing, for that matter ;) Been around for ages and most Arma vets use it all the time..

I know a few gun aficionado's who would just cringe at what you said there ;) . Along with that "best long range weapon" comment from I can't remember who... But as long as you can hit what you are aiming at...who cares :D . Except that "even out to 800m" comment...either you've got a huge monitor displaying a massive amount of pixels or you're talking out of your @*&! The aimpoint on both weapons isn't nearly enough to engage anything at that distance me thinks. The MG maybe with a spotter...maybe...
