I don't think anyone in need of medical assistance or supplies would give up their sniper rifle instead of getting help from someone they know and trust or fetching the supplies themselves.
From my perspective it seems like some people complain about people who KOS because there are so many of them and they might feel forced to adapt to that playstyle when they may rather play diffently. Not everyone is skilled or knowledgeable enough to be able to avoid death while not immediately killing everyone they meet.
More like survivors are neutral. Heroes I think would range from being medics to hunting bandits and protecting survivors as well as fellow heroes from them to the best of their ability.
I broke a man's legs to keep him from killing me. Fortunately he had the means to safely acquire entry into the nearby hospitable so I didn't have to follow up with medicinal aid. Now that skins have been re-implimented however, I don't think I will have to spare any Bandits since it will be much easier to determine their lack of innocence.
This is also an issue for those who conscientiously object to transgenderism as they technically are denied the right to not choose to be a transgender since there's no option for it in the first place.
