  1. Something similar could work like gangbusters. If this is snuck into the next patch we could be looking at a significant drop in banditry overnight. Also, involuntary manslaughter charges.
  2. O.K., so they should have to find and take antipsychotics to control the hallucinations. And there should be a 5% chance that the drugs were laced with cyanide by the Tylenol bandit.
  3. I think having the faces of your victims suddenly pop up on your screen while screeching "WHY DID YOU KILL ME?!" at random intervals is a wonderful idea. For full-effect, the haunting visages should be melded with a picture of Captain Howdy.
  4. I take it the "Z" simply alludes to the end of days then' date=' as regards the conclusion of that ye olde prophesier of doom: the [i']alphabet.

    Forum Moderators Wanted!

There is something critically flawed with your personality if being a forum moderator is an attractive prospect.

    Be polite.

Believe it or not, Anton Chigurh was once considered tedious. Now he's just colloquially considered meh. How do you like that, Mr. Delicious? Meh. Mehmehmehmememhmehmehmehmemrrrnnnrrhrrmrnrhmmmrrohbbbabyyy. EDIT: For the full effect, you must imagine me saying, "Mehmehmehmeh," with my head shifting quickly from side to side and my mouth almost blubbering the words. EDIT 2: And, as I reach the "mrrrrmmrrhhnrrrmmobbabybyyyyy" part, my hands have spontaneously located my nipples.

    To Evan from PC Gamer

I for one applaud the valor of operative Tinkeng and shall sacrifice a thousand goats in his honor. God has used Tinkeng as His agent of bloody vengeance against Evan and PC Gamer in retribution for the untimely demise of PC Accelerator, which was, He doth decree, the superior Imagine gaming rag.

    Ruining ARMA 2?

No, I don't think you're reading him right at all. What exactly do you expect him to do? Tell all the new people to fuck off? Yes, fuck off, youse silly people! Return your ill-begotten video game for refunds at once as I desire none of your patronage, you slimy trolls! How dare you come in here with your differing concepts and styles of play to which we are entirely unaccustomed! Don't you understand we are frightened by your unorthodox manners? We're a community of bugs beneath a rock and you, you miserable sons of bitches, you've lifted that rock and now we're squirming about like a bunch of misanthropic, sun-shy morlocks. Are you happy?! Are you?! Please. He's hit the four-quadrants, the gates have opened, and the Internet walked through. Now I know they might not be up to the standards of a wild gunstom cat, whatever that is, but regardless they are here and they have paid for the privilege same as you, so yes, "sucking it up" does sound like the best course of action.

    Ruining ARMA 2?

I'll be the first to admit that I'm no expert on the anthropological habits of doorknobs, but I would still hesitate before ascribing them human features such as eyeballs. I jest, of course. New blood injected into a largely stagnant, inbred community like ArmA's is, in the end, only for the best. Cheer up, though. Like Uncle Ben said, with new players comes intolerable condescension. That's the best condescension of all!

    Ruining ARMA 2?

The disparity between my Day Z experience and my regular ArmA 2 experience couldn't be wider. When I play ArmA 2, it's on highly structured servers that keep the tomfoolery to an absolute minimum. For example, if anyone accidentally teamkills, it's usually followed by a dash to revive, a profuse apology, and a heaping handful of shame for at least the next hour. Going into Day Z I sort of expected at least a modicum of environment crossover. I once played on one of the ArmA 2 Free servers with a friend who didn't have the full game, and that wretched community has more in common, I think, with Day Z. Which is unfortunate, but then it's also appropriate. Day Z is not a rigid military simulator. It doesn't actively encourage discipline, or at least not the same kind of discipline, anyway. The ArmA series are the only games I can think of where following orders can still bring about a highly rewarding experience. Being a huge cunt doesn't really feel appropriate in ArmA 2; in Day Z, it appears to be a matter of course.

    DayZ and Basic Human Nature

I think you'll find a bit of ribbing falls well within the allowances of this forum. But, as the saying goes, if you can't stand the heat... cry for an adult to save you ...? Is that how it goes? Something like that, anyway. I've earnestly contributed to this thread in prior pages, so your pompous assertion that I'm a troll is fairly limp. In fact, it's taken its latest turn at your insufferable behest. You can't say things like, "I didn't read any of this but nobody gets to discuss whatever it is that you guys are talking about because I once killed a human being; also, your insults are ineffectual and I'd cream you with my own were it not for the fact that my warning level is currently at 99%," and then scream like a midnight jogger in Central Park when someone lobs something your way.

    DayZ and Basic Human Nature

Ad hominem! How fascinating, how bizarre! I'd love to know how you manage to write this stuff from the confines of the capuchin enclosure at the San Francisco Zoo. Now, I understand the life of a semi-literate monkey must be a difficult one, full of travails and bananas, so allow me to impart a single piece of wisdom: When you preface your post with a disclaimer that pretty much says, "I did not read this thread but by golly I'll be damned if that means I won't post something wrongly and obnoxiously accusatory in it," what follows rarely holds any relevance to the discussion at hand.

While I applaud the bravado of your Hooked-on-Phonics approach to message board threads, I don't think you have the right of this discussion.

    DayZ and Basic Human Nature

Heh. Feeling ashamed of one's actions, regardless if the medium falls under "reality" or "fantasy" or whatever other tags you feel the need to include, is, I'd argue, a fundamental aspect of being human. In Day Z, where a single shot can strip another player of their time and effort, the ability to suppress that is scary. However, I was ultimately being facetious with my therapy comment; I don't believe that killing people in this game means you've a disquieting propensity for asking young women to help you move furniture into your windowless van at night. But if you're not considering your every action and taking into account the effect they'll have on another person just because you're separated by the gulf of Internet anonymity-driven fantasy, or if you are, and you're feeding off of their anguish, your behavior is, I think, morally reprehensible. And that does reflect on you as a person in the real world, not just in the game. Shrugging it off, pretending as if it doesn't, well, that's your way of getting to sleep at night.

That sounds like some good, fertile ground for you and your therapist to dig into.

    DayZ and Basic Human Nature

In games that present players with moral choices, like Mass Effect, I can only ever play through as a good guy. My decisions aren't even affecting real people yet I still feel like a huge twat if I do something the game construes as the "evil" choice. In online games? Fuhgeddaboutit. My conscience doesn't come with an on/off switch. My face will probably eat buckshot more often than most, but at least I won't have trouble sleeping at night.

    Compressed day/night cycle?

A shorter day/night cycle would have the benefit of fitting properly with the current hunger/thirst rate. As it is, I shouldn't have to eat a can of Spaghettios every 30 minutes if the world is in real time.

What does a well look like?

I got one to work successfully but all subsequent attempts to refill my canteen at these so-called wells have met only with humiliating failure. Is there some sort of trick to it? I circle around it looking like a moron trying to size up a water fountain. >Makarov >Eat Food >Furiously bludgeon head on pump in abject frustration

    Vehicle and tent acess

There still would be risks. High risks. Just not when you are offline. In other words' date=' you should be able to account for risks. There should be a way of planning against them, or defend against them. Now there is none, except hiding, and that will eventually be found. [/quote'] I don't think the game really lends itself to that level of permanence. Yes, you can build a "camp," it can be accomplished, but like everything else in the mod it's the human factor that remains the wild card. The only change I'd kind of but not really support would be the inclusion of keys for vehicles. Have them spawn at the same time as the car in the closest building or something. Desperately searching for keys is a staple of zombie movies... though that's kind of a moot point when you consider the amount of legwork required to get a vehicle going -- I don't think any of them are "hop in and go," are they? A "hot wire kit" or something would have to be thrown in to keep things interesting.
  21. Day Z is the codename of Russia's new homeless relocation program, and we all play a ragtag collection of mentally ill hobos who have been transferred from Moscow to a Cold War-era ex-nuclear weapon testing site. Everything was going fine until Sergei found a Winchester and insisted the dead were rising back to life. Now everyone is afflicted by a collective delusion. "Yes, Ivan, as a matter of fact, we just got this in a few minutes ago. Apparently the company responsible for delivering food and other supplies to the new vagrant settlements has lost contact with their drivers, ah, they say their last radio transmission, ah, that they were taking heavy fire, and, ah, that one of them tried to flee but was shot in the head, a lot of screaming going on in the background, mostly incoherent, though one word stood out: 'Beans.' Yes, Ivan, that's correct. I don't think we can even begin to speculate what that truly means. We'll have more as it develops."
